Lord, Renew Your Deeds Today

TODAY’S VERSE
LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known.
Habakkuk 3:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever read a passage of scripture that seems to express the longing of your heart? This verse expresses mine. Every time I read the Scriptures, I end up marveling at God’s deeds. How magnificent! How mighty! As I read the life of Jesus, I cannot help but think of how merciful and full of love He is. And yet, as I see my life, as I see the church today, as I see our country, I cannot help but pray what Habakkuk prayed, “Renew your deeds in our day; in our time make them known.” I believe God has stayed His hand. I believe He is waiting for the church to believe that He is mighty today and not just in the past. He is waiting for us to lay down our materialism, our preoccupation with success, fame, and riches. I believe He is waiting for those of us who go to church on Sunday to want His Lordship on Monday. We need the prayer of Habakkuk to flood our churches, to be on the lips of our people. It needs to be our passion, our plea, and our deepest desire. We need the Lord. We need His mighty power in our life. Today marvel at all that God has done in the past and then ask Him to do it again in your life. He is waiting for us to ask.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I marvel at Your mighty deeds. How I stand in awe of all that You have done. Dear Lord, I need Your power in my life. I come today and ask that You would again do Your mighty deeds. Make Yourself known to my world. Work in my life today that others might see and stand in awe of You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be The Light

TODAY’S VERSE
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:14-15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Light. You never really appreciate it until you are in the dark. We take light for granted. I remember one night having to hike deep in a forest on a mountainside. I had to get to a destination by morning and all I had was a dim flashlight. All night long I appreciated every ray that emanated from the head of that lifesaving light. The next day on the way back I saw that I had walked for miles along the top of a deep ravine. Without the light, I am sure I would have perished. As Christians, we are the light for the world. We are the illumination on the path that leads through the wilderness along the dangerous ravine. Jesus reminds us that we must not hide the light but instead should put it where everyone can see by its brightness. He concludes with this command, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Today you have a choice. You can contribute to the darkness of those around you or you can be the light. There is no neutral ground. When God gives us an opportunity, might we shine the Love of Christ to those around us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that today You would shine Your light through me. Guide me to the darkness that You want me to shine upon. Help me see the needs around me and respond with Your love and compassion so others will praise Your name.
AMEN

What Do You Want Him To Do For you?

TODAY’S VERSE
Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?”
Matthew 20:30-32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Deep down inside you know there has to be more. There must be a relief for your pain. Perhaps like two blind men on the side of the road, if you knew Jesus was coming, you would shout out to Him. In his book, The Church That Heals Doug Murren writes, “We need the miraculous in the church today. Postmodern people are too broken to be fixed through simple human caregiving; they need to be pieced back together through the Supernatural healing of Jesus through His body the church.” What is it you need today? Where are you hurting? Today Jesus is asking you the same thing that He asked the blind men, “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I am sitting here today by the side of the road. I am in great need. I have shouted for mercy and You have heard me. Help me to respond to Your question, What do you want me to do for you? In Jesus’ name.

Give God the Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God – Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 8:10-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have all heard stories about those that went through severe trial leaving them deeply hurt, dejected and wavering in their faith. Who of us would judge someone in such a tragic situation? Rather we pray and ask God to make Himself real to them in their time of sorrow. Yet, what is far more common is the ordinary story of tens of thousands of Christians who, growing up in the faith, buy into the American dream, give in to materialism and become nominal in their faith. God warns us to be careful, very careful that when things go good, we do not forget Him. How could that happen you ask? Moses says it can happen when we eat and are satisfied, build fine houses, settle down, earn income (sound like anyone you know?) and become proud. We start to believe that it is our ability, our skills, our intelligence, our savvy that has produced all that we have. We fail to give God glory and soon our heart grows cold toward spiritual things. There is hope for the wounded heart to be healed, but what hope is there for the callous, dried up heart? The only hope is to repent! Give God back His glory which you have stolen. Fall down before Him and praise Him for all that you have. Ask Him to renew your heart, to open your eyes to His goodness and give back all that you have to Him for His use. Make Him the Lord of your income and possessions. When you do, you will find that materialism will lose its hold on your heart and your soul will be free and alive with the love of God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, to think that I have created my own income, am master of my own possessions and the sole reason for my own success is to rob You of Your glory. I know I have fallen to this temptation. It is so easy to forget that You are the giver of all good things. Forgive me, Lord. I give You back all that I have. Be Lord of everything I am and own. Help me to live my life for You and to give You praise and glory for every blessing You give me. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Bless Me Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: ‘May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.’ Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.
Numbers 6:22-27

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You probably recognize these verses as a Doxology that is given at the end of a worship service. It was given to Moses by God Himself so he could bless the children of Israel. I pray the same for you today: May you have the assurance that God will bless you and protect you. May you sense the smile of God deep in your heart and experience His graciousness to you. May the very favor of God Almighty fill you with strength. May you know how much He loves you and wants to give you all the peace you will need to get you through this day. Today know this, God Himself loves you and will bless you!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, who am I that You would bless me? And yet, You have said that it is Your desire to do so. So, Lord, bless me today. Bless me till my heart overflows with the realization that I am Yours and You are mine! Thank you, dear Father. In Jesus’ name.
