The Gift Of Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
John 14:27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift! Jesus said He was leaving us with a gift of peace of mind and heart. What a gift that we so desperately need. In his book, The Way Of The Warrior, Erwin McManus writes, “With simplicity and wisdom, he cuts between the two things that steal our peace, for the greatest enemies of the peace within are worry and fear. – While worry will rob our joy, fear will steal our freedom – When we are anxious, we lose our strength. When we are afraid, we lose our courage.” Who of us doesn’t worry? Who of us doesn’t have fear? Jesus said that in this world, we will have tribulation! But in today’s verse, Jesus also says that we will have His peace. Paul writes, “ Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Coming to God in prayer is the solution for all our anxiety and troubling fears. It is a beautiful gift from Jesus. The only trouble with a gift is that you have to receive it. Don’t let Jesus’ gift to you sit there unopened! Lay down your worries and fears. Accept His peace today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, You know how I worry and fear. Today, I come and lay all my worries and fears before you. Take my anxiety; I accept Your gift of peace of mind and heart.
AMEN

Honest With God

TODAY’S VERSE
Pay attention to my prayer, because I speak the truth.
Psalms 17:1 (NCV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You would think being honest with God would be natural, but it isn’t. Oh, it’s not that we tell God some big fat lie. It is more like we omit the truth. We pray, “Lord, help me; I need money for my bills.” Perhaps a more honest prayer would be, “Lord, please show me where I can improve my finances.” We pray that God would help us with a sour relationship when we should pray for our behavior and attitude toward the person. We ask God to forgive our sins, but not the wisdom and discipline to change our behavior. Sometimes, we would be better off starting our prayers with, “Lord, what do You want me to pray about?” and then waiting to see what God challenges us with. This kind of honest, life-changing prayer only comes from a sincere relationship with God. As we spend more time with Him, we will find it easier to pray in an open, honest and fresh way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me share with You honestly and openly. I want nothing between us. I want to serve You with all my heart and pray that honesty will be at the core of our relationship.
AMEN

Filled With His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s possible to have someone love you and not be able to comprehend it. I know. For whatever reason, I could love others and tell others about God’s love, but when it came to feeling that same love, I experienced a significant block. A sense of shame, false guilt, and emptiness would come over me if I were forced to acknowledge that anyone loved me. I could hear the words “I love you” but could never receive it. I could not get the emotional reality of it through my defenses. Deep in my heart, I didn’t believe I was lovable. It was after this awareness that the grace of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit gently brought me to the place where I could experience God’s unconditional love. But it was not easy. How about you? Do you know that God loves you? Have you received it? Do you know it in a profound and personally felt way? If not, do not despair; talk to God about it. Ask the Holy Spirit to work in your heart and make you more and more aware that God has made you lovable and showered you with His unconditional love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know You love me, but today I want to know with my heart. I need Your Holy Spirit to minister to me in ways that help me understand deep in my soul that I am lovable and unconditionally loved. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Live The Gospel

TODAY’S VERSE
We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. – We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.
II Corinthians 6:3, 6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christ has commanded us to be His servants in this world. We represent Him, so when people see us, they should see Him. In today’s passage, we see that the Apostle Paul was trying to live in such a way that nobody could discredit the Lord because of his ministry. But how did he do this? Paul did it by the way he lived. He was able to overcome any false allegations by his pure lifestyle, allowing him to have moral authority. His understanding of God, the scriptures, his ministry, and the culture permitted him to be above reproach. Paul was patient in his suffering. Paul was also kind, and this kindness caused many to consider believing in the God he believed in. Paul believed deeply in the Holy Spirit, and it was the Holy Spirit that filled him and equipped him for ministry. Finally, Paul’s sincere love enabled him to live among so many different groups and win people to Christ. Today, let us go into the world God has called us to minister in. Let’s live the same way Paul did and help others to come to a saving knowledge of Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live like Paul. Help me live in a way that those around me would see something in me that would lead them to You.
AMEN

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence.
Psalms 21:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Here, we see King David writing a psalm about God’s blessing in his life. David felt blessed because God gave him the joy of being in His presence. Joy comes from deep bonded relationships, especially with God. That is why we were created. God desires our fellowship. He has endowed each of us with eternal blessings that come from the joy of His presence. But do we even pay attention to God? Much like a marriage, you can enjoy each other’s company or keep busy ignoring each other’s companionship and wonder years later why the love is gone. Today, choose to be conscious of the presence of God. Choose to stop and meditate on who He is and the infinite love He has for you. When you do, you will find true joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me conscious of Your presence. Help me to experience today the deep joy of knowing You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and fill my heart with Your love.
AMEN

Everlasting Love

TODAY’S VERSE

Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”

Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT

It is hard to accept God’s love. We are taught from a young child to do good. People will like us if we do well, get good grades, and make sports teams. It makes us believe that love is “earned,” not given freely. Worst, some learn that love can be taken away. Is it a wonder that the love of God gets lost in the translation? In his book “The Deeper Journey,” author M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “We fear that we might not be valued. If our false self’s identity is rooted in our performance, then our value must necessarily be rooted in how well we perform. Consequently, our false self attempts to perfect our performance, at least in our own estimation.” Is this not where fear and anger rise among us? We are afraid that someone else’s success will rob us of value. Does not anger rise inside us when we find something getting in the way of what we think we must have or do to be appreciated and loved? Instead, God has told us Himself that He has loved us with everlasting and unfailing love. It is everlasting in that it never ends. It is unquenchable, unconditional, and undeserving. It is unfailing because nothing will stop it from reaching its objective. We are the object of God’s love, and nothing will stand in the way of Him expressing that love to us. So today, rejoice in the love that God has for you. You don’t have to earn it! Let the joy of His undying love for you cast away all of your fear and anger.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, I thank You that I am valued and loved and that I do not have to earn Your love. Help me today to understand Your unconditional love for me.

AMEN

Your Testimony

TODAY’S VERSE
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
I Peter 3:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is something about a testimony that touches people deep in their hearts. It is a powerful spiritual force when we share the reality of Christ in our lives with others. You may think my story is not as dramatic as “I once was blind, but now I see.” Yet has not God allowed you to “see” peace amid despair? Has not God provided the food that you eat? Has He not given you another day to live? People are looking for a God that is alive. A God that is relevant to everyday issues. Issues like the ones you face. Today witness with the love you have for those around you, and when you can, share how meaningful prayer, the scriptures, and God are to the many different facets of your life. Many will know Christ better as they see and hear the gospel according to your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me share today with someone who needs to know You. Help me share how You affect my life. Help others see in You in the way I live. May I give the hope I have in You to anyone who asks.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins.
Psalms 103:2-3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a beautiful plan. God creates us for fellowship with Him. Like Adam and Eve, God allows us free will to choose to love Him and follow His ways. All the while, God knows He has created us with a human condition that tempts us to stray from Him and His Holy standard. Yet because of His unconditional love for us, He can forgive every transgression through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross. John writes, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Today, confess anything that is between you and God. Get your conscience clear with Him. When you do, God promises to forgive.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit, who convicts me of sin. Thank You also for Jesus Christ, who took my place on the cross. Guide me today and help clear my conscience with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalms 103:11-13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Guilt is an insidious emotion. The Psalmist knew this firsthand. He wrote, “I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.” His sin had caused him much grief. It affected him emotionally and physically. Our misbehavior, our rebellion toward God, does the same to us today. Hundreds of studies have linked toxic emotions to physical disease. But it doesn’t have to be that way. God has provided a way for us to have freedom from guilt. It is through the forgiveness offered by the death of His son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle John wrote, “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” Do you know this same Jesus as your personal Savior? Have you accepted His death on the cross as the penalty for your misdeeds? If so, you can say with the Psalmist that as high as the heavens are above the earth, your personal history, with all its pain and regret, is removed from God’s sight. They are as far as the east is from the west.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for my sins. Thank You that when I confess and renounce any wrongdoing, You will quickly forgive and cleanse me. I thank You for Your unconditional love that takes all my guilt and casts it into the deep sea. I praise You for the unbelievable grace You give to me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love God

TODAY’S VERSE
You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.
Luke 10:27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created us for a relationship with Himself. His purpose is for us to love Him. Specifically, we are to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength. But how do we do this? In his book “Sacred Companions” Dr. Benner writes, “To know God we must think of Him, not simply about Him. We must learn to spend time gazing on Him, being still before Him and focused on Him. And we must learn to listen to Him. These disciplines of loving attention form the basis of the development of a love relationship with Him.” But what do we do if we find it hard to love God with all our hearts? Dr. Benner suggests, “God doesn’t want me to try to be more loving. He wants me to absorb His love so that it flows out from me. And so I return again to knowing myself as deeply loved by God. I meditate on His love, allowing my focus to be on Him and His love for me, not me and my love for Him.” Today, let your love for God grow by being still before Him and focusing on His incredible love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Help me to understand it more fully so I can learn to love You with my whole heart.
AMEN
