Don’t Forget

TODAY’S VERSE
“If only the LORD had killed us back in Egypt,’” they moaned. “There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.”
Exodus 16:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One month after the Lord had delivered them from the hand of Pharaoh, the children of Israel found themselves in a desert. Did they remember the mighty miracles that God used to deliver them from slavery? Did they remember the dry ground they walked on that was once covered by the Red Sea? No, they forgot and complained to Moses that they would have been better off back in Egypt! What about our human nature causes us to forget good things so quickly? Charles Spurgeon said, “I don’t know which to marvel more at, God’s faithfulness or man’s forgetfulness.” Why is this so important? Because remembering is vital to our survival. God teaches us life lessons that are needed later in life, but our propensity is to forget. The lesson for the Israelites would be, “Don’t forget in the desert what you learned at the Red Sea.” What about you? Do you remember how faithful God has been to you in the past? Today, stop and remember all that God has done for you. Remember His faithfulness. Remember His provision. Remember His presence in times past and go forward in the reality that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my forgetfulness. Instead, Lord, help me remember all that You have done and all that You have promised. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Slipping

TODAY’S VERSE
I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Psalms 94:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the “do-over.” Optimism comes from the ability to “bounce back’, to be resilient, and our God is the God of resilience. The author cried out that he was slipping. Have you ever felt that way? You are trying to climb out of a well, but the sides are slippery, and you keep sliding back down. The result of the author slipping was a mind full of doubt. But even in his doubt, God was there. God’s unfailing love was able to support him. The comfort that came from the Lord gave him renewed hope and cheer. God can do the same with you. Today, bring God your doubts. Bring Him your slippery situation. Let His love support you; let His comfort give you renewed hope and cheer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I am slipping. Help me today. May Your love support me. May Your comfort renew my hope. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all.
Psalm 65:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When do you cheer your son or daughter during a race? Right from the first step! If they are last, it doesn’t matter. There they are, trying their heart out, and you are cheering like it was the Olympic Gold Medal. Why do we think God is any different? Why do we picture this austere entity that is only pleased with perfection? Indeed, we must have salvation for our sins, but not perfection for His love. The Psalmist says it best. Though you and I can become so overwhelmed by our sins; though we can feel like quitting; though we can feel so broken and defeated, yet there is God. And God forgives it all! Isn’t it time you joined Him? Today, listen to God as He runs the race right next to you, ecstatically cheering you on.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh, Heavenly Father, how overwhelmed I get at my sin, yet how much more amazing is Your forgiveness. I accept Your love today with much thanksgiving. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Praise and Confession

TODAY’S VERSE
But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
Psalm 66:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Were you ever tempted to lie to someone because you thought telling the truth would get you in trouble? The author of today’s verse took the risk of confessing his sins to God, and he was so surprised at God’s reaction that he could not wait to tell everyone. He wrote, “Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me.” He came crying to God with confession and praise, and God heard his cries. He wrote, “For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” And what was the result? God listened. The Father paid attention to his prayers. The author concludes, “Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.” Today you can have the same results. Bring your praise, confession, and prayers before God. He will hear you. He will not withdraw His unfailing love from you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God and Father, thank You for Your unfailing love that does not reward me according to my sins nor ignores my prayers. Thank you for the fact that I can come to You with all my sins and requests, and know that you will not shut me out. I praise You for Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hard Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.
Mark 6:50-52 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The disciples were in the boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. Jesus told them to go ahead of him. But a strong wind came up, and they were straining, trying to make it across. They were afraid and then terrified as Jesus approached the boat walking on water. They were in the Abyss, fighting for their life, and now they thought they saw a ghost. All their sea-faring superstitions and primal fears took over, and their faith was nowhere to be found. This would not have been so bad, but they just saw Jesus feed five thousand people. They had also witnessed Jesus do countless other miracles, yet the Bible says their heart was hardened. We often think of a person with a “Hard heart” as someone who is jaded or bitter. They don’t care. But the word also means lacking spiritual perception. That is the use of the word here. The disciples were sincere, they were following Jesus, but they were also fighting a life of tradition, superstition, and legalism. Are you fighting a spiritual battle? Is your heart hard? Today, ask God to give you spiritual perception so that you may know and enjoy the truth of God’s love and grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, soften my heart that I may perceive and receive your truth. Speak to my heart, I pray.
AMEN

Be Renewed

TODAY’S VERSE
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
II Corinthians 4:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt like giving up? You are trying to do the right thing. You have put your faith in God. And yet everything seems to go wrong. You ask yourself, “Why try?” “What difference will it make?” You feel like throwing in the towel, but then the Spirit of God, the comforter, comes and renews your heart and mind. Paul experienced this. He wrote, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” That is why Paul never gave up. God renewed his inner being over and over again. God will do the same for you. Come to Him today. Tell Him your burdens. Let Him know your worries and cares. Pour out your heart to Him, and let your spirit be renewed.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Lord, help me today, I pray. You know my burden. You know my need. Renew me in my inner being so that I will never give up being who You want me to be.
AMEN

You Can Come Boldly

TODAY’S VERSE
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times do you need mercy and grace in your life? It is so good to know that God knows all about your weaknesses. He empathizes with your situation. Jesus overcame temptation and the trials that test your soul. Because of His great love for you, He bids you to come to Him with boldness. Come into His throne room and receive all the mercy and grace you will ever need. Today, don’t let anything stop you. He loves you, and He knows you. Come and let Him know your needs.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I am so thankful that You understand my weaknesses. I bring them to You and ask for Your grace and mercy to forgive me and help me live for You.
AMEN

Intercede

TODAY’S VERSE
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
Romans 8:26 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had someone intercede for you? You were way over your head and didn’t know what to do. Then someone came along, someone who knew exactly what you needed and took care of the situation. How can you even begin to thank them? You were without hope, and then they came and rescued you. Paul says that is the way it is with the Holy Spirit. We don’t know what to do. We don’t even know how to pray but praise God; He comes in the person of the Holy Spirit and intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. God’s pure love is that way. It is way beyond our comprehension. Today thank God for interceding for you. Thank Him for His love that helps you in ways you can’t even imagine.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for Your love. Thank You for helping with my weaknesses and interceding for me with groanings too deep for words.
AMEN

Despite All These Things

TODAY’S VERSE
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
Romans 8:37 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“Despite all these things.” Have you ever felt the burden of “all these things?” “Things” mount up, and you cry loudly, “If one more thing happens, I don’t know what I will do.” Life gets hard, and we are tempted to wonder where God is in all our trouble. Paul writes it this way, “Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?” It is a good question, and Paul gave it a great answer. Listen again. “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” Today join Paul in believing what he finishes this passage with. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love, and despite all the “things” in my life, nothing will ever separate me from Your love in Christ Jesus, my Lord!
AMEN

A Relationship With God

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Psalms 103:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Believe it or not, God desires to have a relationship with us. Why else would He go to such lengths to love us? If all He wanted were sinless perfection, He could have created us another way because none of us can comply with that requirement. That doesn’t mean that God is any less Holy. It means that he planned to have Christ take the penalty for sins so we could be forgiven and have the privilege of having a relationship with Him. Listen to what David wrote, “He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Today, bask in God’s mercy, compassion, and forgiveness and enjoy a joyful relationship with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for desiring a relationship with me. Thank You for Your mercy, compassion, and forgiveness that makes that possible. Help me to really know You, love you, and worship You.
AMEN
