True Spirituality

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are more important than others. And yet they are easy to miss. We get so busy living our life going from day to day coping when God offers us so much more. Paul knew how important it was to focus on our spiritual life, so he prayed that God would give the Colossians complete knowledge of His will. He prayed that God would give them spiritual wisdom and understanding. How often do we pray this way? Do we start our day out asking God to provide us with complete knowledge of His will? How much time do we spend trying to attain spiritual wisdom and understanding from the Lord? We should. Our spiritual life depends on it. When we do, Paul promises that the way we live will always honor and please the Lord, and our lives will produce every kind of good fruit as we learn to know God better and better. Today seek spiritual wisdom and understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, give me spiritual wisdom and understanding and complete knowledge of Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You See?

TODAY’S VERSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Guilt, shame, condemnation, these negative concepts fill the minds of so many Christians. They result from events, circumstances, and lies that have shaped us. How contrary to what God thinks of us. Paul wants us to see the truth, so he takes us back to the beginning before this world influenced us. Paul speaks to who you really are. He confirms that before the world was ever made, you were part of God’s plan. God created you holy and without any shame. Paul writes, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Can you imagine that? God received great pleasure in creating you. He sees you as His child, holy, without fault in His eyes. The question is, do you? Today, believe it. See yourself as you really are, God’s beloved child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that before You made the world, You loved me and chose me in Christ to be holy and without fault in Your eyes. Thank You for adopting me into Your family. Help me today to live in this wonderful spiritual reality.
AMEN

Be Free

TODAY’S VERSE
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
I John 1:8-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse is one of my favorite passages. Why? Because it is so liberating. Liberating in the fact that I can own my sin. I don’t have to hide it, blame it on someone else, ignore it, or repress it. Instead, I can confess it. Liberating in its forgiveness. I can admit my sin without retribution, fear, condemnation, and shame. Why? Because God promises that if we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all wickedness. Today, let your confession of sin and His faithfulness to forgive and cleanse your conscience liberate you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how thankful I am that I can come to You with all my wrongdoing and find that You are faithful and just to forgive me and cleanse me from all my wickedness. How I praise You! In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Watch And Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Matthew 26:41 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to pray and wait on God when horrific times come. Peter, James, and John went with Jesus to the Garden of Gethsemane, and He asked them to watch and pray for Him. But they couldn’t do it. They fell asleep. This same Jesus who walked on water, healed the sick, cast out demons, and raised Lazarus from the dead told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death.” They watched Jesus’ face turn into a look of sorrow, His posture slump, and a sense of urgency come over Him. I imagine they were shaken to the core. The spiritual battle was so intense that they were overcome. They weren’t ready. The same can happen to us. While everything is going our way, it is easy to think we are spiritually alive, but affluence, convenience, all our different ways of protecting our lives have given us a false sense of spirituality. We become smug, complacent, and ritualistic. The truth is we don’t spend that much time with God. We don’t talk to Him about our life. We don’t listen. We don’t WATCH. We don’t PRAY. So when our own Gethsemane comes around, when we enter into that dark night of the soul, we don’t have any spiritual depth. Our spirit may be willing, but our flesh is truly weak. My Gethsemanes of life have revealed my weaknesses. What has yours revealed? Today, let us heed the words of Jesus and watch and pray.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that You are there in the darkest night of my soul. Help me to always watch and pray that I might not fall into temptation.
AMEN

Cleanse Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
Psalms 19:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have them. Sins that lurk in all our hearts. It is so easy to deceive ourselves, to be in denial about our hidden sins. John tells us, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” The question is, “What do we do with them?” The first thing is to ask God to expose our sins and show us where we have gone wrong. Then we need to confess them. Finally, we need to repent of them. John continues, “If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” Today, examine yourself. Ask God to expose any sins lurking in your heart. When He does, confess them, repent of them. Do it now and let God totally cleanse your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, please show me where I have displeased You. I come to confess my sins and repent of them. I want to live for You with a fresh and cleansed heart. Thank You for Your love and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

A New Life

TODAY’S VERSE
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!
Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt dead because of your wrongdoing? Our willful disobedience to what God desires leaves us guilty before Him. Guilty, sinful, and far from God is the result of our free will in choosing what our sinful desires want. But this doesn’t surprise God. No more than when my children surprised me when they would act out when it came time to go to bed. No, the good news is God is rich in grace and mercy. His grace and mercy are much greater than our sins. Paul shares that God loved us so much that He gave us a new life through the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is by God’s grace that you and I have become Christians and live in this newness of life. Have you turned your life over to Him? Have you accepted His gift of eternal life? If not, do it today. Today, ask Him to forgive you of all your wrongdoing and make you a Christian. He has a new life for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I realize how far I have strayed from You. I am aware of my wrongdoing. I know Jesus died for me. Please forgive me of all my sins. I accept Christ’s gift of eternal life. I believe Christ rose again from the dead, and I want to become a Christian right now. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming into my life and making me a new person right now.
AMEN

Forgive Me

TODAY’S VERSE
For the honor of your name, O LORD, forgive my many, many sins.
Psalm 25:11

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who are we fooling? Our sins are many. David knew this. He wrote, “Lord, forgive my many, many sins.” David had a grasp on who he was and who God was. He knew his humanness, his tendency toward sin. He wrote, “I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.” But David also knew God’s compassion and forgiveness. Again he wrote, “Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.” God’s forgiveness and unfailing love allow us to see ourselves and our many sins against the background of His almighty sacrifice. Today, trust God. Get right with Him. He knows you; He loves you. Clear your conscience, confess your sins. He longs to forgive you and put you on the right path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, for the honor of Your name, forgive me for my many, many sins.
AMEN

Confess

TODAY’S VERSE
Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
Psalms 32:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How clear is your conscience? How heavy is your heart with unconfessed sin? David knew how important it was to keep his conscience clear with the Lord. He wrote, “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.” Two things need to happen to get out of this dilemma. The first is to repent. That simply means to agree with God. Our behavior and attitude were wrong, an offense to God. It was a sin. The second is to tell God about it and seek His forgiveness. This is confession. The great news is God is waiting with His unconditional love and forgiveness. David knew the joy of forgiveness. He wrote about the freedom he experienced. He said, “Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” Today examine your heart. Confess any sin to God and be forgiven and free.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me search my heart. Help me acknowledge any sin that has offended you. I desire Your forgiveness and a clear conscience. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Are You Paralyzed?

TODAY’S VERSE
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”
Mark 2:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was confusing. Here was a paralyzed man lying on a cot waiting to be healed, and Jesus said that his sins were forgiven. Jesus knew the concern of those judging Him, so He asked, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’?” This begs the question. Which is more critical, the paralysis of the body or the soul? Now being paralyzed is a horrible situation, and without a doubt, I would want Jesus to heal me. But the paralysis of the soul leads to a much more horrific ending, one for all of eternity. The good news is Jesus had the authority to forgive sins and the power to heal the person. He did both. Today, you may not be paralyzed in your body, but how is your soul? How are you spiritually? Ask Christ to heal you today. He can, and He will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, my heart and soul are often paralyzed with sin, apathy, and despair. Come heal me today. Draw me to Yourself. Save me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Perfect High Priest

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
Hebrews 7:25

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We sin, but Jesus saves. The Old Testament was set up on a sacrificial system whereby a Priest would offer a sacrifice on behalf of the people. Why? Because humankind is separated from God by our willful disobedience to what God declares is moral and just. Our disobedience is the same today, but God’s redeeming sacrificial system is different. Today we have Jesus. He was the ultimate High Priest—the one who, instead of offering a sheep or calf to God, offered Himself. The author of Hebrews writes, “He (Jesus) is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.” The result is today’s verse, “He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.” Now, you can rejoice in the fact that all your sins are forgiven. You can praise God for Jesus, who is constantly interceding on your behalf, presenting you to God the Father as His loving, forgiven child. And that you are! Today, give thanks to Jesus, your perfect High Priest.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for being my High Priest interceding on my behalf. Thank You for Your spotless life and Your loving, perfect sacrifice on the Cross for me. Indeed You are the perfect High Priest. Halleluiah, what a Savior!
AMEN
