Slipping

TODAY’S VERSE
I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported and cheer.
Psalms 94:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the “do-over.” Optimism comes from the ability to “bounce back’, to be resilient, and our God is the God of resilience. The author cried out that he was slipping. Have you ever felt that way? It’s like you are trying to climb out of a well, but the sides are slippery, and you keep sliding back down. The result of the authors slipping was a mind full of doubt. But even in his doubt, God was there. God’s unfailing love was able to support him. The comfort that came from God gave him renewed hope and cheer. God can do the same with you. Today, bring God your doubts. Bring Him your slippery situation. Let His love support you; let His comfort give you renewed hope and cheer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I am slipping. Help me today. May Your love support me. May Your comfort renew my hope. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Overcoming

TODAY’S VERSE
Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.
Ephesians 4:21-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every day we make choices. Some choices, however, are more subtle than others. For example, the old saying, “Not to decide is to decide already.” Otherwise, if you need to make a choice and you do not say “yes” to it, then you have really chosen against it. It is like that with most of the things that we “lust” after. Lusting implies that we desire something that we cannot (or should not) have at that moment. The trouble, however, is not in the one time choice to lust. All of us struggle with occasional temptations. Instead, it is the rebound effect that gets us in trouble. You know, get close to something you know is wrong, withdraw and then rebound, getting closer the next time. It is like the proverbial frog that boils in water, never noticing that the water was gradually getting warmer and warmer. As time moves on, we eventually find ourselves in the grips of the thing we were trying to avoid. How much better to choose ahead of time not to trifle with those habits, thoughts, and behaviors that lead to trouble. We do this by being quick to repent when we slip and then asking the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts and attitudes. If we throw off our old sinful nature and our former way of life like we would a burning jacket, and instead, let the Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes, God can help us discern what temps us so we can determine ahead of time to set our limits and boundaries. Today, let us give our various temptations over to God and ask Him to help us overcome them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, You know that I struggle with temptation and lust and need Your help. Renew my thoughts and attitudes so I can live the way you want me to. Help me continue to say “no” and throw off those things that war against me. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Every thought

TODAY’S VERSE
We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
II Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to let our thoughts get away from us. Worry, fear, anger, a whole host of emotions can send our thoughts into a downward spiral. Before you know it, we are heading toward dire consequences. Instead, we need to make a habit of bringing our thoughts to Christ. Paul knew all about this. Imagine waking up in prison day after day for doing no moral wrong. How about being shipwrecked on an island or suffering excruciating wounds from being beaten within an inch of your life. Day after day, Paul was cold, hungry, tired, and falsely accused. And yet, through all of this, he knew how to discipline his thinking. Paul knew that he was in a spiritual battle, and he came to God and renewed his mind every day! He said it this way, “We live in the world, but we do not fight in the same way the world fights. We fight with weapons that are different from those the world uses. Our weapons have power from God that can destroy the enemy’s strong places. We destroy people’s arguments and every proud thing that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.” Today, don’t let your thoughts get away from you. Capture those thoughts and emotions that will take you down the wrong path and bring them to Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I ask You to fill my mind with Your truth. I submit my thinking to You and Your word. Help me capture every rogue thought and make it obey You. I give You my mind; guide me I pray.
AMEN

Give Him your anxiety

TODAY’S VERSE
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often you hear the admonitions: “Don’t fear,” “Stop worrying” or “Quit being afraid.” These are helpful and can often deter us from pursuing a downward spiral of despair. But Peter had a better way. Instead of clipping back the weeds of fear and worry, Peter recommends that you pull all our anxiety out by the roots and bring them to Jesus. Not a few or some, all! And why can you do that? Peter says, “Because Jesus cares for you!” It is like the old hymn says, “Is there a heart over bound by sorrow? Is there a life weighed down by care? Come to the cross each burden bearing. All our anxiety leave it there. All your anxiety, all your care, bring to the mercy seat leave it there; never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus.” Today, turn to Jesus. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know all about my worry and fear. I come to You now and cast all my anxiety at Your feet. Instead of taking it back, help me take Your love with me instead.
AMEN

Forgive

Forgive

TODAY’S VERSE
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much of life would be easier if we could forgive? Resentment, bitterness, rage, remorse, guilt, so many damaging toxic emotions can come out of an unforgiving heart. But it is hard to forgive. That is why we need to turn to Christ for help. When we do, He will gently show us His scars and remind us of how much we have been forgiven. He will remind us of His unconditional love, and we will begin to find the strength we need to be more like Him. Mother Teresa knew what it was like to live a life of love and sacrifice. She wrote, “If we admit that we are sinners and we need forgiveness, then it will be very easy for us to forgive others. But if we don’t admit this, it will be very hard for us to say, ‘I forgive you’ no matter who comes to us.” Today remind yourself of God’s love and all that He has forgiven you of, and then go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, might Your love fill my heart and soul and give me all the strength and courage I need to forgive those that have hurt me. Help me today to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Surrender To Love

Surrender To Love

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is no greater occupation for the Christian than to know the love of God. Paul prayed that we would be gifted with the power needed to understand it fully. He prayed that we would be able to experience God’s love, even though it is way beyond our comprehension. Why? Because that is the only way, we will ever be complete in Him. It is in truly knowing God’s love that we are endowed with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. In his book, “Surrender To Love,” the author David Benner writes, “The Christian spiritual journey consists of more than surrender to love. But it contains nothing more important. Surrender to God’s love involves confession, repentance, obedience and service. But as I have noted, for surrender to be transformational, it must be surrender to love. And for it to lead to union with God, it must be surrender to perfect love. Christian spirituality begins with love and ends with love.” Today God will provide all the power you will ever need to understand His love, but you must surrender. Come, spend time with Him and begin to know how wide, long, high, and deep His love truly is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I long to know You and all the fullness of Your love for me. I surrender to it. I need it. I come humbly before You and ask You to show me the mystery of Your love for me.
AMEN

Pour Out Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him.
Psalms 62:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Ever have anyone tell you, “I can’t help you if you don’t tell me about it.” You know, you are distressed, you come to a friend, and they can tell something is wrong. They ask you, “What is it?” and you say, “Nothing.” They want to help but can’t because you won’t engage with them. You won’t share what is bothering you. Isn’t that how we treat God? Sure we believe “in” Him, we just don’t believe Him. He says that He is all-loving and all-powerful. He says that we should cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. He promised that He would never leave us or forsake us. Even if our mother forsakes us, He says, “I will never forget you.” And yet we don’t take the time to share our concerns with Him. He is not our confidant. We don’t “pour out our heart to Him.” Isn’t it time to change? Doesn’t your heart long for a close, loving relationship with God? You can have it. It’s yours if you want it. Today, begin a new fresh relationship with God. Pour out your heart To God, He is waiting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I hurry through life and don’t take the time to pour out my heart to You. I do so much on my own. But Lord, I want that to change. I long for a deeper walk with You. Help me today to trust You more. Help me sense Your loving presence and share with You from the depths of my heart.
AMEN

Sin Issues

TODAY’S VERSE
But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.
Romans 5:20 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God’s grace is amazing. Paul knew this, so he wrote, “Where sin increased, grace increased all the more.” Paul explains that grace has set us so free in Christ that we are no longer slaves to sin. In “True Faced” the authors write, “The environment of grace provides me with truth, acceptance, healing, safety, perspective, freedom, and the power that I did not before know; these realities are foundational to resolving my sin issues.” You see, God’s grace is more than forgiveness. It is the availability of God’s power to help us mature. He forgives us and then helps us live for Him. Today, don’t run and hide from God. Talk to Him about sin issues in your life. Though you are overwhelmed, He will forgive you. He will help you. His grace is greater than your sin.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Your son Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your forgiveness, mercy, and grace. Guide me, direct me, work with me, and by Your grace, help resolve the sin issues in my life.
AMEN

Confess

TODAY’S VERSE
If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer.
Psalm 66:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our heart is key to our relationship with God. Our emotions, motives, beliefs, assumptions, self-image, and so much more all interface in our hearts. It is from the heart, our emotional center, where we feel the need to repent and confess our sins to God, whom we have offended. God is not interested in our thinking about sin with all its deception, lies, rationalizations, and half-hearted apologies. He would rather have our confession, repentance, and humility that come from the heart. When we come to Him in this way, there is open communication. Love, joy, and peace can be shared because our hearts are in tune with His. Today, protect your heart. Keep your conscience clear. Be honest with God in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for all the times I have held sin in my heart. I come to you repentant. Help me keep my conscious clean. Help me to be honest with you and confess all my wrong beliefs, attitudes, and behavior. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
