Prove It

TODAY’S VERSE
If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.
James 3:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Apostle James reminds me of the Prophet Isaiah. In Isaiah 58 the Prophet rebukes Israel for coming to God with their sanctimonious fasting. But God wasn’t interested. Instead, God said, “No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.” Listen to James as he writes, “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” So today, let’s take James up on his challenge and prove that we understand God’s ways by doing the good works that God has called us to.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me live out my faith and fulfill Your desires, by doing the good works that you have for me to do this day.
AMEN

Everything With Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.
I Corinthians 16:13-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been on guard? Have you had times when you had to be firm in your faith, courageous, and strong at the same time? Those are stressful times calling for desperate measures, yet Paul adds one more critical ingredient. He says in all your stress, hypervigilance, and desperation, do everything in love. Love is doing it God’s way. Love is trusting God more than your own methods. Love is mixing grace with guardedness, favor with faith, mercy with courage, and humility with strength. Today, be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, when things come against me, help me to be on guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, and be strong. But most of all, help me do everything with love.
AMEN

Be Courageous

TODAY’S VERSE
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was 40 years since Joshua spied out the promised land to se if it was safe to enter. He and Caleb said, “Let’s go!” The other ten spies said that there were giants in the land and it wasn’t safe. A lot can change in 40 years. Joshua is not a young man anymore. Aches and pains from being in the wilderness. Walking in the desert has cost him his warrior mindset. And now, Moses, the great leader, is dead. Moses had chosen Joshua to be his successor and take the people into the promised land. Knowing all about the situation, God came to Joshua and said, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” What is it that God has called you to do? Today, hear God say to you, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know the tasks I have before me. Help me, guide me. Make me strong and courageous, I pray. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Do Not Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
You came near when I called on you; you said, ‘Do not fear!’
Lamentations 3:57 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a comfort it is to know that God hears your prayer. He is the God who is there! God cares for you and loves you unconditionally. When you call on Him, He is near. And if you come to Him in distress, You can sense Him saying, “Do not fear!” Today, do not isolate yourself from Him. Do not hesitate to call out His name with your deepest need. He is there; you need not fear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear loving Father. I need You. I cry out to You for help. Let me sense Your nearness. Let me hear You say, “Do not fear!”
AMEN

Trust In God

TODAY’S VERSE
This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
Psalms 91:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt like there was a predator in the room? You know you walk around hyper-vigilant with a sense of fear and dread. There is a hum in your gut, like being in your car at a red light with one foot on the brake and the other on the gas. This impending doom is based on what we believe about ourselves and what we don’t believe about God. We believe we are unlovable, damaged goods, on the verge of being abandoned, forgotten, and banished to a horrible abyss. We don’t think God really loves us or will protect us. However, the Psalmist knew the truth. He declared that God was his refuge, his place of safety. He put his trust in God. He later wrote, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Today, accept God’s invitation and find your shelter in His love. He is your God; you can trust Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You today for safety. You are my refuge. You are my God, and I put all my trust in You.
AMEN

Anticipation

TODAY’S VERSE
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I often wrestle with waiting. I get so impatient. I have things to do and places to be. And waiting, well, that’s when all the negative thinking starts to play in my head. If I can just stay busy, I don’t have to face my issues. But waiting on God can be different. It can be a time of renewal, a time of reenergizing ourselves in the presence of God. It is communing with Him and gaining strength and courage from knowing more about His power and love available for our life. When we truly understand this, waiting transforms into anticipation. When we comprehend the depths to which God wants to renew us, it builds our anticipation that God has something wonderful in store for us, and we eagerly wait for it. As children, we joyfully anticipated our presents on Christmas morning. How much more should we wait eagerly for God to meet all our needs, direct our paths, give us the peace that passes all understanding, and lavish us with His love? Today, take courage, be hopeful and wait on the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come waiting, anticipating all the good that You have for me. Renew my strength, encourage my heart, and fill me with Your peace. Today, I will wait on You.
AMEN

Don’t Lose Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
So do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being rewarded day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many ways to lose heart. The one Paul is talking about is when circumstances go awry, and we become deeply discouraged. It is as if the heart is taken right out of us. It seems that our life is gone. Paul encourages us not to lose heart in our circumstances because God can and will renew us if we turn to Him. The other way we lose heart is through apathy. It is a slower loss, but a loss nonetheless. The problem here is that there is no renewing going on. No daily habits or consciousness of God to bring life back to our souls. Paul gave us the remedy for both spiritual dilemmas. He wrote, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” This “fullness of life and power” can renew us no matter how much we lose our heart. Today, stop and ask the Holy Spirit to help you experience the love of Christ. Come near to Him. Let Him renew your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, renew my heart. Help me to experience the love of Christ with all its life and power.
AMEN

You Were Chosen

TODAY’S VERSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you just have to read it for yourself. This is not something your Pastor made up. It is not some “nice” idea. God inspired Paul to include today’s verse in Holy Scriptures. Paul wrote that before God created the world, He loved you and chose you to be in Christ, holy and without fault. Paul elaborated on this theme by writing, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Let the thought that creating you brought God great pleasure sink deep into your heart. Today, rejoice at this incredible fact, if you know Christ as your Savior, you are His adopted child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am humbled that creating and adopting me into your family brought you great pleasure. I am full of thanksgiving for You loving me and choosing me to be holy and without fault in Your eyes. Thank You, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Everything I Do And Say

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt alone? Were you ever discouraged and felt that there was no hope? Have you found yourself feeling helpless with your back against the wall? We all go through difficult times, and they can leave us vulnerable to lies about ourselves and situations. Thoughts that we are broken, damaged goods, no good. Beliefs that we are helpless, hopeless, and all alone are all lies that come when we are stressed. But Paul knew the truth and shared it with the early church. God has given it to you today. The truth is that our Lord God, the God who loves you and gives you hope, will comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. So today, be encouraged by these words and live this day for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for loving me and giving me hope. Today, please comfort and strengthen me in every good thing I do and say.
AMEN

Plans

TODAY’S VERSE
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Psalms 138:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to make plans. There are so many variables. Life is complex, and trying to execute the best strategies is often difficult. But here is one variable that we can count on. This is steadfast and secure, a factor that trumps all others. It is the fact that your Heavenly Father has His plans for you and will work them out. And here is another variable that will never change. God loves you! David wrote that God’s love for you will endure forever. No matter what happens, no matter what changes, God’s love for you is secure. So today, trust God. Talk to Him. Go over your plans with Him. Tell Him the desires of your heart. Know that He hears you. Know that He cares. But most of all, no matter what, know that He loves you deeply.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am so glad I can put my trust in the plans You have for me. I thank You that I can know that You will work them out because of Your faithful love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
