Jesus Is Here

TODAY’S VERSE
They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!
Mark 6:50 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been terrified? The disciples experienced it. Mark explains, “Jesus had finished ministry for the day and He told the disciples to cross the lake. Late that night, Jesus saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.” You see, they were terrified. But here is the good news. Jesus didn’t wait for them to ask for help; instead, He saw their predicament and spoke to them at once. He saw them in their terror and said, “Don’t be afraid.” There they were, terrified, thinking there was no out, and Jesus opened the door of hope. And why could they have that hope? Because Jesus finished by saying, “Take courage! I am here!” Jesus was there, and there was no room for fear. Today, realize this heavenly truth for yourself. Today take courage and let go of your fear; Jesus is here!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for coming to me in my storm. Thank You for telling me to take courage, for You are here. Help me be conscious of Your presence. Drive fear far from my heart. In Your name Jesus.
AMEN

Thinking The Right Way

TODAY’S VERSE
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever met a person who has a victim mentality? They always have to surround themselves with turmoil. They can’t seem to be satisfied until something is wrong, and they can go into their victim mode. Worse, some people go around as if they were cursed! How we look at circumstances and what we think about can make all the difference in how we live. Pessimism, negativity, fear, and doubt can color a bright shiny day into a grey, cloudy, overcast. If anyone could be negative, it would be Paul. The Gentiles were persecuting the church, and many legalistic Christians were spreading false teaching.
On top of that, Paul was writing this letter from prison. Yet as he sat imprisoned, he wrote about one “final thing.” He told the Philippians brothers and sisters to fix their thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. He admonished them to emulate his own life, and here is what he promised. He said if we change our thinking, the God of peace will be with us. Today let the God of all peace minister to your soul. Rebuke negativity and begin to think of those things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God of all peace, forgive me for my fear, doubt, and negativity. Help me change my thinking. Help me concentrate on those things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Remain In His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.
John 15:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is one thing to know love intellectually and another to know it experientially. It is also one thing to have experienced someone’s love and another to remain in that love. How many times have you heard that Jesus loves you? How much of that has gone from your head to your heart? How are you experiencing your relationship with Jesus today? Can you say that you have remained in His love? If not, come back. God hasn’t moved. He hasn’t stopped loving you. His love for you is unconditional, unfailing, and unquenchable. He has loved You as the Father has loved Him with eternal love. Today, return and remain in His love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your love. Help me today to really grasp what that means. Help me sense it in all its warmth and power. Help me remain in the consciousness of your love all day.
AMEN

Love Yourself

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Psalms 145:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If God is so merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry, and filled with unfailing love toward us, why aren’t we that way toward ourselves? Have you ever paid attention to your inner chatter when you don’t behave as you felt you should? Sometimes we verge on self-abuse. Where does that come from? Not from God. It is time we start to believe that God is as merciful and compassionate as David says. We must let God’s forgiveness, patience, love, and mercy toward us permeate our mind. When we start to see that God loves us that way, we will also begin to love ourselves. His love will compel us to believe that we are loveable and forgivable, helping us treat ourselves the way He does. Today, believe that the LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry, and filled with unfailing love. Now go and be that same way toward yourself.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for being merciful, compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Help me to be the same way toward myself.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Don’t worry about anything? How hard is that? Worrying comes so naturally. Perhaps that is why we need supernatural help. Paul shares that the secret to “stopping” worry is “substituting” prayer. We need to pray about what we are worrying about. Paul elaborates, “Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” If we want to stop worrying, we need to trust God with it. We let Him take the burden while focusing on heartfelt gratitude for all that He has done. When we take on this attitude of gratitude, God can work in our hearts. Paul explains, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Today, stop worrying. Pray about whatever is bothering you. Give thanks to God and let Him fill your heart and mind with His supernatural peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for worrying. I have not trusted You. Today, I bring You my burden and give thanks for all You have done. Fill me with Your peace, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Learned Helplessness

TODAY’S VERSE
I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart.
Psalms 34:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Learned helplessness. That depressive state of mind where we believe that there is nothing we can do to change our situation. We have concluded that we are both helpless and hopeless in our circumstance. David knew what that felt like. How many battles did he have to fight? How many people did he see die? How long did he have to run from the mad King Saul, that wanted him dead for no apparent reason? Yet David sends a message to all who would feel helpless. He says, “Take heart!” He continues, “I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. – In my desperation, I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles.” Today know that you are not hopeless; you are not helpless. You can take heart, knowing that you can pray and the Lord will listen. He will free you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father. Sometimes I feel so hopeless. Help me. Hear my prayer, answer me and free me from this helplessness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Stop Your Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We see today’s verse, and it is easy to think that it is about ceasing to worry. However, it is more about beginning to pray. It is a matter of substitution. Worry can become a habit, and it can be challenging to stop a habit. Paul is insinuating that if we want to stop worrying, we need to replace it. Instead of worry, substitute prayer. He writes, “Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” And here is the good news. We get a better reward! While we believe our worrying and fretting give us some sort of protection or peace, in reality, worry does nothing positive. It only robs us of joy. Paul says that prayer gives us so much more! He writes, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Today, when a troubling thought comes your way, stop worrying and substitute it with prayer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me not worry about anything but pray to You about everything. Help me to experience Your peace. Guard my heart and my mind as I live in the awareness of Christ and His love.
AMEN

Seek Him

TODAY’S VERSE
They earnestly sought after God, and they found him.
II Chronicles 15:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Children of Israel had repented. They decided that they wanted to follow God. Today’s text says, “They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.” This is where it starts. It starts with earnestness to find God and ends with a deep spiritual commitment to follow Him with all your heart and soul. That is what Jeremiah meant when he quoted God saying, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” The question is, “Have you made a covenant with God to seek Him with all your heart and soul?” Is He the Lord of your life? If not, settle it today. Commit yourself to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, today I commit myself to earnestly seek You and Your will with all my heart and soul. Be the Lord of my life, I pray. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Return Me To Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.
Psalms 40:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Joy comes from relationships. We see this in a baby’s response when their caregivers are happy to be with them. Likewise, David drew to his Heavenly Father for his comfort and joy. As the youngest of eight brothers, shepherding out on the hills by himself, he found solace and significance in a deep mature relationship with God. When David was in the pit of despair, sinking in the mud and mire of life, he turned to his relationship with God. He waited patiently for the Lord to help him. God heard his prayer and returned him to joy. Today, turn to God. He knows your situation. He hears the groaning of your heart. Spend time with Him and His word. Let your relationship with God your Father return you to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, hear my plea for help. Deepen my relationship with You, so I can let your companionship return me to joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Psalms39:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where do you put your hope? Hope is that feeling of expectation. It is the anticipation of realizing our aspirations and desires come to fruition. But what makes David’s hope more than wishful thinking is the object of His hope. His hope was in the Lord God Jehovah! Because of who God is, David’s hope was a confident expectation, a firm assurance that God would do what He said He would. He could trust God’s love. He could believe His word. His hope was in God. So today, where can you put your hope? Put it in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for putting my hope in everything else but You. I can’t make it by myself. I need You. Today Lord, I put all my trust in You and Your love for me.
AMEN
