I Believe It’s True

TODAY’S VERSE
Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”
Luke 1:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was hard to take in. The Angel had visited Mary and told her that she was favored among women and would give birth to the Messiah. It seemed so impossible. She was a humble young woman and a virgin, but the Angel explained that it was God’s will, and unlike her relative, Zechariah, who doubted the Angel, Mary submitted to the Lord’s will. She said, “May everything you have said about me come true.” What if we said that? What if we took God at His word when He says that we are totally forgiven, deeply loved, and His very own child? How would our life be different if we believed that nothing can separate us from His love and that He will always give us grace and mercy in our time of need? What joy would permeate our life if we believed with all our heart that we are complete in Him, that we are His workmanship created for good work, and He has given us everything we need for Godliness? Today, believe. Say with Mary, “I am Your servant God. May I believe that everything You say about me is true!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my doubt and apathy. Help me live as Your servant, and know and believe that everything You say about me is true.
AMEN

Growing Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
When your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow.
James 1:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Faith grows. It is not static. We are either growing in our faith or our dependency upon Him diminishing. Through experience, we learn more about God’s faithfulness and that we can trust in His power. It is the tests in life that give us the ability to say, with confidence, “I know I can trust Him.” When times are tough, everything is on the line; there doesn’t seem any way out; that is when God’s faithfulness gets etched into our hearts. That is when our faith leaps forward. So today, trust Him. Look for an opportunity to put your faith in Him and then let it go. God is faithful. As you watch and see what God does over and over again, your faith will grow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to increase my faith. Help me know You more and more and put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Trust In God

TODAY’S VERSE
They did not believe God or trust him to care for them.- Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.
Psalms 78:22,32 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You cannot live off yesterday’s trust. Each day is new, and you must make choices all day as to whether or not you will put your trust in God. Fear, doubt, sadness, disgust; our emotions can skew our judgment and set off a wildfire of inner dialog challenging our faith in the Lord. Sunshine yesterday, cloudy today, our faith changes with the weather. But God is trustworthy. He is never changing. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The ability to remember God’s faithfulness will feed the flame of faith and allow us to trust Him over and over again. This is why Paul wrote, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Today, tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your faithfulness to me. I come in faith believing that as You have done mighty deeds in the past, You will meet my needs today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope For The New Year

TODAY’S VERSE
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is a powerful word. I have often thought of it as an emotion, as in, “I am hopeful.” While hope can generate a positive emotion, it is much more than that. Dr. Brene Brown, in her book, “The Gifts Of Imperfection,” writes about being resilient. She said that one of the critical ingredients in resilience is spirituality. Our belief in God and that He has plans for us gives us hope. We are not alone. But then Dr. Brown says that hope is also an action. She lists three ingredients. Hope is: having a goal, knowing how to reach it, and believing you can. This is where faith comes in. We believe God has plans for us and we move forward seeking to live for Him. Today, ask God to give you hope. It is the beginning of a new year. Move ahead in faith and know that all things are possible with God. He loves you; He is with you, you are part of His great plan.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you that you have good plans for me. Help me to move into this new year with faith and hope.
AMEN

Dare To Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. Yet I still dare to hope.
Lamentations 3:20-21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life takes us on many twists and turns. There are times in our life that are hard to forget. They leave deep scars in our souls. Jeremiah starts this passage with the memory of an awful time. He was grieving over his loss, but everything changed when he dared to hope. What do we dare to do? We could keep on grieving. We could stay in a state of hopeless depression. We could let bitterness and cynicism take over our life. Jeremiah dared to hope. He dared to hope because he remembered that God was in the picture. And it was what he knew about God that changed everything. He writes, “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” You see, you have a choice. You can choose what you want to remember. Do you want to remember the awful time or the faithful love and mercies of God? Today choose God. His mercies are fresh this morning.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my grief. You know my heartache. Today I bring my grief to You. Take it, Lord. I choose to hope in You again. Show me Your faithful love. Fill my heart with Your tender mercies. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Great Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
The joy of the Lord is your strength.
Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were made for joy. Joy is an emotion of excitement and exuberance when we experience or anticipate something wonderful. We experience joy when good things happen. But joy is also a peaceful assurance, deep-down inner satisfaction that we get from the source of the good. And what greater source of good is there than God? It is the presence of the Lord that brings us to this joyful conclusion. He changes everything. That is why the Bible says, “In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” That is why the scriptures can command us to be joyful even in our troubles, suffering, affliction, poverty, and persecution. Why? Because the Bible says, we will find true joy in God, the Holy Spirit, and His people. We find joy in our faith, believing, hoping, and giving. That is why Paul could write for us to joyfully bring our requests to Him, to finish our race with joy, and to be joyful in all things. Today we have a choice. Troubles will come, but when we think of God in all His power and deep love for us, we can return to joy over and over again. When we do, we will find our strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I take great joy in knowing who You are and anticipating all that you have for me. Help me find a deep strength as I return to this joy over and over again, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Psalms 94:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to let doubt fill your mind. Worry, fear, apprehension all tend to grab our attention and proceed to take us captive. We have a propensity toward the negative, and if allowed to stay, it will take over our thinking. But then there is God. The Psalmist knew that God made all the difference. He writes just a verse earlier, “I cried out, ‘I am slipping!’ but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.” In today’s verse, we see when doubt filled his mind that God’s comfort gave him renewed hope and cheer. God will do the same for you! Today trade in your worry, concern, and fear, whatever has you upset, and let God comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, God of all comfort, come and comfort me today. Renew my hope and bring joy to my heart. In Jesus name.
AMEN

What Pleases God

TODAY’S VERSE
And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.
I John 5:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever worked for someone that you were really in synch with? You knew what they wanted. You knew their passions, goals, and plans. This made it easy to work on their behalf. You could express their desires to others and speak for them in various business dealings. When it came to corporate affairs, you knew what pleased them. How much more should this be true in our Christian experience with God? We are His child. We have His word. We have God’s Spirit living within us. For this reason, we have been called to be about God’s business here in this world. Therefore John says that we can be confident that God will hear us when we ask for anything that pleases Him. So the first question is, “How well do you know God?” The second is, “Do you know what pleases Him?” If not, ask Him. Today, pray, “Lord, help me to know You and discern what pleases You so I can pray according to Your will.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to know You better. Help me to know what pleases You so I can pray according to Your will.
AMEN

My Doubts

TODAY’S VERSE
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Psalms 94:19

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to let doubt fill our hearts and mind. It could start as a “not quite right” feeling. It can escalate into a pervasive fretting and apprehension as if a predator constantly follows you. Unchecked, it could grow into a paranoia even phobic reaction to particular circumstances. When doubt fills our minds it leads us down a dark lonely path. However, the Psalmist had a better idea. He let doubt become a trigger. Not a trigger to escape to some addiction, isolation, or chronic busyness but rather a motivation to repent and call on God for comfort. Crying out to God changes everything. Why? Because He is God! And when God gives us comfort, it renews our hope and gladdens our hearts. Today, sense when your mind is beginning to feel with doubt or when you are anxious. Feel when you are beginning to fear, and let this awareness be your signal to repent. Repent and cry out to God for comfort. He will renew your hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me to sense when I am being troubled by doubts and fears. Help me to repent of this unbelief and come to You for comfort. Please, Lord, renew my hope and bring joy to my heart.
AMEN

God’s Perfect Love

TODAY’S VERSE
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
I John 4:18 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear is hard to conquer. It puts us on high alert, and all of our focus is zeroed in on the object of our fear. Our stomach flitters, our blood pressure rises, we can feel the panic. Even when the alarm stops we obsess. It takes us, prisoner. What can we do? How do we find relief? We find it in His love. Not just any love, it is God’s perfect love. When you switch your focus from fear to His love for you, fear loses its power. Why? Because His love for you is relentless, unquenchable, unstoppable, never failing, never-ending and immeasurable. It is tender, full of mercy and kindness. It is forgiving and understanding. It is unconditional. He is the one who we run to, and our worries dissipate. Today, when fear comes, switch your focus. Turn from fear to God’s love. His love for You will cast out your fear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love. It never fails, so today, help me turn to it again and again. Every time fear comes, Lord, help me focus on You and Your perfect love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
