Anticipation

TODAY’S VERSE
I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love.
Psalms 119:124 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Anticipation. It makes a difference in the way we think and behave. If we anticipate rejection, ridicule, and anger from someone, we might behave in a certain way. If we expect someone’s indifference, avoidance, or abandonment, we will react differently. It begs the question, how would we behave if we anticipated God’s, unfailing love? His unconditional love changes everything. Today, meditate on the fact that God wants to deal with you in His unfailing love. Let it affect the way you live.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your unfailing love for me. Help me to understand it so I will anticipate Your loving reaction to me and live accordingly. In Jesus’ name.

Never Abandoned

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
Psalms 138:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It strikes fear in the heart of every child. Will I be abandoned? One of the core needs of a child is to feel safe and secure. As they grow, it becomes a core longing of the heart. And it is not a wonder. With the dismantling of the family and the rampant dysfunction in so many homes, what is a child supposed to do? So we grow in adulthood without the core longing of security being established. But then there is your heavenly Father. He made you; He had a purpose in mind for you. He promises to never leave you or forsake you. King David wrote, “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.” Today rejoice, for this is true for you, “God will not abandon you, for He made you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for creating me and Your promise that You will never abandon me. In Jesus Name.

Representing Heaven

TODAY’S VERSE
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We often quote Jesus in what is referred to as the “Lord’s Prayer” when He said, “May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” Have you ever wondered what He meant? Paul sheds some light on the way our behavior should represent Heaven. He writes that the Kingdom of God is unlike earth, where we pay so much attention to physical and materialistic values, but rather it is about living a life of goodness, peace, and joy. A heavenly life on earth is led by the Holy Spirit and embodies the fruit that the Spirit produces. These fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you live out these Heavenly values.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray that you will help me live out the heavenly calling You have on my life. Help me live the fruit of the Spirit in my life.

Wait

TODAY’S VERSE
The Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Romans 15:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so hard to wait. When we are full of panic, anger, or dread, a minute can seem like an eternity. We want to do something. When a situation drags on and on, we begin to wonder, “Will it ever end?” We start to run out of patience, but the good news is that God is there. In every situation, He can give us hope and encouragement if we wait for it. Without God, waiting is the hard part. But with God it is a totally different experience. Isaiah assures us, “They who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Paul also adds to our reason to wait on God with a beautiful benediction, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Today wait patiently on the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, the source of hope, please fill me completely with joy and peace as I trust in You. Help me overflow with confident hope through the power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name.

God Hears

TODAY’S VERSE
Come quickly, LORD, and answer me, for my depression deepens.
Don’t turn away from me, or I will die.
Psalms 143:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How I thank God for David’s honesty. When I went through a dark season in my life, the Psalms were an oasis for my soul.
I would come to today’s verse and feel a deep assurance that God knew exactly how I felt. Why? Because He understood David’s plea. David cried out to God in his depression and requested, “Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.” It was this deep trust in God that led him to the assurance that he would be delivered. David finishes the Psalm by writing, “May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing. For the glory of your name, O LORD, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.” Today, come to God with your deepest concerns, with your heavy heart, and walk away like David with the full assurance that God has heard your cries and will lead you forward.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You today knowing that You hear my concerns, that You care for me, and I can trust You. Thank You for Your love.

Maturity

TODAY’S VERSE
Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger.
I Corinthians 1:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is one thing to see a baby behaving like a baby but totally inappropriate for an adult. An assumed maturity should come with age, but sadly, this is not always the case. Emotionally we can be stuck in “arrested development.” Spiritually Paul says we can be stuck in infancy. Instead of growing at a reasonable rate in our faith, we become more nominal. In the letter to the Galatians, Paul writes, “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” This is the growth God desires. He promises if we abide in Him and He in us, we will bear much fruit. Today, make it your goal to grow in Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to grow in my faith. I want to grow in my knowledge of Christ. I want to grow in my relationship with You. Help me I pray.

Bring Your Concerns To God

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.
Psalms 5:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a wonderful relationship God is offering us. David knew about it. He writes, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” He brought God His groaning, his deepest concerns, the cries from the bottom of his heart. Paul picks up on this same theme and writes, “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Today, bring your concerns to God. Pray and share your heart with Him. He knows you. He loves you. He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and concern for me. Thank You for hearing my prayers and helping me with all my needs. In Jesus’ name.

Stand Firm

TODAY’S VERSE
It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ.
II Corinthians 1:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Standing firm is a Biblical imperative. Paul tells us why in a letter he wrote to the Corinth Church. He writes, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” The good news is that God enables us to stand firm, and Paul tells us how. He continues, “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle, you will still be standing firm.” Today, suit up and be strong in His mighty power!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God, help me to stand firm and be strong in You and Your mighty power. In Jesus’ name.

Be Strong And Corageous

TODAY’S VERSE
So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD!
Psalms 31: 24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you hope in can determine your attitude. It is easy to get discouraged when times are hard. It is easy to behave and feel like a person who doesn’t have hope at all. That is why David challenged us to be strong and courageous. This wasn’t some Pollyanna “things will work out” slogan but rather a call to action. An “all-out, put your hope in God and go for it” holy boldness. Oh, that we would have the kind of faith that David had. Today, hope. Lift up your head, be strong, be courageous; you are hoping in the Almighty God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am hoping in You today. Help me to be strong and courageous in all I do. In Jesus’ name.

Return To Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
Psalms 94:19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of Christ, we have a choice. We can return to joy from painful emotions. The Psalmist knew this. When he was overwhelmed with anxiety, it was the consolation and comfort of the Lord that brought him back to a place of joy. The choice was to believe that God’s love toward us is unconditional. To believe that He alone can and will give us the peace that passes all our understanding. To believe that the Holy Spirit is indeed the comforter and He will sustain us. Today, allow His presence to console you. Allow Him to quiet your anxious heart and return you to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know my heart. You know how I am. I bring all my anxiety to You. Console me I pray. Return me to joy. In Jesus’ name.
