My Refuge

TODAY’S VERSE
This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.
Psalms 91:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear is real. It is a major topic in the Bible. Did you know that “fear not” is one of the most frequent commands in the Bible? The people living in the Old Testament times knew what fears were. Wars, sickness, famines, poverty, violence, slavery were all around them, yet, look at their faith. In today’s passage, the Psalmist writes, “Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.” What confidence in God. Today say with the Psalmist, “This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, Almighty God, my Savior, and Lord. Thank You for being my refuge, my place of safety. Today I put my trust in You.
AMEN

How Do You Fight Your Battles?

TODAY’S VERSE
When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
II Kings 6:15-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you fight your battles? Here we see a situation that Elisha finds himself in. The King of Aram was trying to defeat the Israelites, but God would share it with Elisha every time they had a plan, who would then tell the King of Israel. The King of Aram was sure that he has a traitor in his court, but everyone insisted that it was the Prophet, Elisha. So, the King, in his anger, sent his troops to seize Elisha. Elisha’s servant got up in the morning and had a rude awakening when he went outside. Troops, horses and chariots surrounded them. Now Elisha was already aware of his plight. Did he get his sword? Did he get the Armies? No, he had a different plan. He gave the battle to God and leaned upon him. You see, Elisha saw what the real reality was. God had already revealed to Elisha what he prayed for his servant. Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. God was in Elisha’s battle plans. He asked God to intervene and deliver him, and that is what God did. We need to bring our battles to God. Yes, a mighty army may come against us, but the real truth is that the Army of God surrounds us. Today, might we rise in faith and cry out, “The Battle is the Lords!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, open my eyes that I can see you in all my battles. You are there. You surround me with Your love and might. Help me trust in you.
AMEN

You Can Have Real Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How are you affected by stress? We all have situations that get us down, emergencies that distract us and cause us to fret. Situations that anger us, others cause us grief. We become full of worry and anxiety. What are we to do? Isaiah has a word for us. It is as if God had him look ahead to today and say, “God will help you with all your stress. He will give you peace that passes all your understanding if you do one thing. Keep your thoughts fixed on God.” What a precious promise. What love and concern for us. Today, stop and focus on the Lord. When stress comes, keep your eyes on Him. You are not alone. He will keep you in peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father. Help me keep my mind on you. I ask You to keep my heart and my mind at peace today.
AMEN

You Are Not Alone

TODAY’S VERSE
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrew 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How is it we end up believing we are so alone? Why do we feel we must face our problems by ourselves? With Christ, nothing could be farther from the truth. We have been invited to come boldly to the very presence of God. The truth is that Jesus knows what we are going through. He understands the trials and temptations that we face. He knows the emotional struggles we have. And He knows how to get through them. You are not alone. You can come to Him and receive the grace and help you need just when you need it. Today, come boldly to Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I come to You today, knowing that you know all about me and my situation. Help me through this day. Give me the mercy and grace that you promised to give me when I need it the most. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

ENcouragement

TODAY’S VERSE
But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us.
II Corinthians 7:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to become discouraged. Finances, health, relationships, career, family all of them can present us with tremendous challenges and ample opportunity for discouragement. The good news is that there is someone bigger than our situation. Paul knew it. He writes, “When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.” And then he adds the phrase that changes everything. He writes, “But God.” It doesn’t get any better than that. He writes, “But God who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us.” In this case, God did it through the arrival of Titus to minister with Paul. I don’t know how God will do it for you, but today you have the God who encourages the discouraged. Watch for it; let Him encourage you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You are the great encourager. I pray that in Your own marvelous way, You would encourage my heart today. In Jesus’ name.
Amen

The God Of All Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is hope, and then there is HOPE. At first, it would seem that the difference would be the degree of our trust in Him. Little trust, little hope. Large trust, large hope. But as we read today’s verse, we see it is not trusting that makes the difference as much as what we have our trust in. Hope comes from the fact that we trust in the magnificence of God. Paul says that God is the source of our hope and that it is God that fills us with joy and peace. God gives us His Holy Spirit, whose power causes us to overflow with confident hope. So today, put your trust in Almighty God, the God of all power, the God of all love, and let Him fill you with joy, peace, and hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray that You would fill me completely with joy, peace, and hope through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Help me overflow with a confident hope in You and Your love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wait On god

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Psalms 62:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so hard to wait sometimes. We are so driven. Burdens, passions, ambitions all take turns moving us from moment to moment, barely leaving us time to breathe. Even when we don’t have pressing needs, we fill our time with busyness. We are spinning around and around inside, deep in the recesses of our minds. Thoughts out of control, emotions hammering us, voices commanding us to keep going, keep moving. All the while, our soul is crying out for rest. And all the time, God is waiting to give it to us. He desires us to stop and know Him. David knew this, so he forced himself to stop and wait. He wrote, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God.” And why? Why did David do this? Because he knew God was his only hope of peace. He declared, “My hope is in Him.” It can be the same for you. Today choose to stop the madness. Stop the busyness. Choose to wait, wait quietly before God. Know Him, love Him, fellowship with Him. As you do, you will find your hope in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I have been so busy that I haven’t taken the time I should to be with You. Help me change. Help me as I seek to wait for You. Help me as I attempt to quiet my heart. Help me hear Your voice. Help me see Your face. Help me find my hope in You.
AMEN

Trust

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NTL)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you just have to trust. You know what it’s like. You are sitting there and “bam” – the sky starts falling. You are caught off guard. Your head starts spinning, and you feel sick to your stomach. Gasping for breath, you start accessing your situation. For some, adrenalin starts to kick in, and you hang on for the ride. For others, you just go numb. Indecision, blocked from thinking, you sit there. You, too, are on a ride, even if it doesn’t feel like you are going anywhere. And that is when you have to trust. You’re thrown into an unwanted journey where you need your faith. It is a desperate time, and you can’t depend on our own understanding. Instead, you must seek His will, and God promises that He will show you which way to go. So today, hang on. God knows your situation. He knows and deeply cares. Come to Him. Quit trying to figure it out and trust. He is there. He will show you the way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I surrender. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know which way to go. I will quit depending on my own understanding and will trust in You with all my heart. I need Your supernatural wisdom and guidance. Please show me which way to go. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Your Will Be Done

TODAY’S VERSE
He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
Matthew 26:39

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Obedience is not the absence of doubt or fear. It is an act of faith and trust. Jesus was a perfect example. He knew that His purpose was to be the sacrifice for the sins of the world. Jesus also knew that His death would be an excruciating, painful ordeal. In His anguish, He came to God His Father and asked if it was possible to let His suffering be put off. But in the next breath, He submitted to His crucifixion with gut-wrenching faith. Against His desire to be free from such terrific agony, He trusted His loving Father. His Father, our Almighty God, almighty in love, in knowledge, and power. Our Lord Jesus modeled the faith and trust that you and I need to live the life God has for us. He prayed, “I want Your will to be done, not mine.” That’s it, isn’t it? That says it all. Faith and obedience come together. Love and trust intersect. What is it you are struggling with? What is it that you cannot understand? What difficulties have you at your wits’ end? Come to God. Follow Christ, and in faith surrender yourself to your loving Father and pray what Jesus prayed, “Not my will Lord, but Your will be done.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, there are so many times that I don’t know what to do. I am so perplexed, so troubled, but today I choose faith. I choose You. I choose to trust Your love and pray that “Your will” be done in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Our Deepest Longings

TODAY’S VERSE
His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.
Acts 17:27-28 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God’s purpose has always been that we fellowship with Him. He has built us with what Anne Halley calls our “Core longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging.” We all need to have these fulfilled. And we can when we fellowship with God. The people of Athens were searching for truth. They had a temple filled with a multitude of gods, and yet they asked Paul to come and share about Jesus. Paul’s message cut to the heart and exposed their deepest longings. He shared that in God we, “live and move and exist.” It is coming to God, fellowshipping in His presence, feeling safe enough to be vulnerable, and expose our lack of fulfillment that He can fill the deep core longings of our heart. We must come to God and move toward Him. When we do, He hears and meets our need for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging. Today, come to Him, fellowship with Him. As Paul said, “He is not far from any one of us.” Bring Him the deep longings of your heart and find your place in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come today and lay before You my deepest longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging. Thank You that in Jesus Christ, all my longings are met. Come fill my heart and help me live, move and exist in You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
