Trust In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.
Psalms 84:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who do you trust? Whether or not you have joy depends on it. How many times have we put our trust in those things that did not deliver? Our friends, programs, fortune, our strength, a great plan – how many times have our hopes been smashed because our trust was in the wrong place? Today, God is calling. The Almighty, the Lord of all of Heaven’s Armies, says, “Trust in me. Give me your hope. Have faith in my strength and my unfailing love for you.” And so, we move in closer. Barely one hope left – yet that is enough. A mustard seed of faith is all it takes, and God delivers. His love is sure, His promises are true, our joy is secure. Today, put your trust in Him and return to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, You proved Your love for me on the Cross. Today, I come and put my trust in You. Increase my faith, breathe hope into the depths of my soul and return me to joy. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wait On Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Psalms 62:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it hard to wait on God? It is so much easier to fret and worry. Or to take matters into our own hands and do things our way.
Perhaps it is because we have an intellectual assent toward God instead of a heartfelt surrender to Him. We “know about” God but barely know Him. I love the fact that the Psalmist says, “Let all that I am wait quietly before the Lord.” There is a soulful sound to that phrase. A surrender of the heart, a heart that is expectant of those things that the Prophet Isaiah talked about when he wrote, “But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” And so today, let us wait. Stop and commit yourself to Him. Trust Him. Surrender to Him and let Him renew your strength. Today, put your hope in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You today with all that I am. I will wait before You, putting all my trust and hope in You. Renew my strength, lead me in the way I should go. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Quietness and Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.”
Isaiah 30:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems like the last thing we want to do is slow down. We say we believe in God and want His direction in our lives, but we never stop to listen to Him. We go from event to event like unguided drones, on a mission but flying without direction. Isaiah wanted to make a point. He refers to God as the “Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel,” hoping that we would listen. And what is it that God says? He says that it is only in returning and resting in Him that we have any chance of making it in this life. He assures us that it is in quietness and the confidence from time spent with God that we get the strength we need for our journey. Don Postema, in his book “Space For God” shares that a person needs “silence if their words are to mean anything; reflection, if their actions are to have any significance; contemplation, if they are to see the world as it really is; prayer, if they are going to be conscious of God, if they are to ‘know God and enjoy God forever.’” Today, seek silence, reflection, contemplation, and prayer. Seek God, and you will find that in quietness with Him, you will find strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I come to You and quiet my heart. I need You. I need to hear Your voice. Help me find the strength I need as I seek to spend time with You in contemplation and prayer.
AMEN

Inner Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our inward journey significantly affects our outward one. How we live is dependent on how we think and feel. If we live in the truth, if we know that we are loved, if we have the resilience to bounce back from painful emotions, we will find our outward journey one of peace and joy, the abundant life Christ talked about. However, if we allow life with its trauma to sicken our inner life, we will find ourselves living with festering emotional wounds, lies, and dysfunctional behavior. Paul had the cure to an unhealthy inner life. He believed that God, with everything He is, wants to influence everything we are. Therefore, Paul prayed that we would allow the Holy Spirit’s unlimited resources to empower us and give us inner strength. He prayed that we would trust Christ and let Him live at home in our hearts. He prayed that we would let our roots grow deep down into God’s love. If we do these things through prayer, meditation, and reflection, Paul promises that God Himself will keep us Spiritually strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please empower me with inner strength through Your Holy Spirit. Please make Your home in my heart and help my roots grow deep down into Your love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Word and Power

TODAY’S VERSE

Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

Mark 12:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT

How clearer can it get? In one sentence, Jesus identified the problem most of us have with our Christian experience. Are we doubting God? Cynical about life?  Lack of faith? Frustration with circumstances? Is sin having reign in our life? It could be that we are guilty of the same problems the Sadducees, the religious leaders of Jesus’ day, had. Jesus said that they did not know the scriptures or the power of God. Understanding the Bible is crucial to our Christian life. Paul wrote to Timothy that “all scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” We also need the power of God in our life. It is His power that gets us through this life. Paul wrote, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead.” Today, let us set our minds to know both God’s word and His power. Otherwise, as Jesus implied, we will be making a grave mistake.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Dear Father, forgive me for having doubted Your power and have not spent enough time in Your word. Help me increase my faith and put my trust in both Your word and power.

AMEN

Mountain Mover

TODAY’S VERSE
I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.
Mark 11:23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus wants us to put our trust in God’s mighty power. He was the perfect example. Jesus knew that His Father God had sent Him here to provide Salvation and heal the sick, wounded, and dying. He knew it would take supernatural power to do all that God had on His agenda. Jesus also knew how vital signs and wonders were to those who were considering following Him. So in teaching His disciples how to do Kingdom work, He encouraged them to believe God for great things. And we see this lived out in the book of Acts. Jesus died, rose again from the grave, and ascended into heaven, leaving His Holy Spirit to empower all His followers. Their commission was to go and begin the church. And they did. They were mighty mountain movers. God used their faith, love, and generosity in powerful ways to bring the Gospel to all those who would listen. Today God wants to do the same through you. People all around you have mountains that need moving. They don’t know what to do. They need a mighty touch of God. God has called you to use your faith, love, and generosity and trust God to move those mountains. Cast out doubt and exercise your faith. Believe Him for great and mighty things.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, there are so many mountains to move. So many seemly unmovable obstacles in my life and those around me. I need You. I need Your mighty power. Please fill me with faith, love, and generosity so that Your power will flow through me and be a blessing to others.
AMEN

Stand On His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
He has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it.
Colossians 1:22-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you do with truth can make all the difference in the world. Truth is meant to be deeply believed. This is more than mental assent. Sacred truth, life-changing truth, is intended to be acted on. You must choose, commit and continue in the fact that He loves you, forgives you, and wants a wonderful relationship with you. Really knowing Christ’s love means you repent and rebound from any sin in your life. This life-altering truth enables you to be in His presence, praying and opening up to Him about your feelings. Today, begin to believe, really believe. Stand firmly on the truth that He loves you, forgives you, and has made you blameless in His sight.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, teach me to know, believe and live out the truth of Your love for me. Help the truth of your forgiveness and desire for my fellowship with You go deep into my heart. Help me stand firmly on the fact that, really love me.”
AMEN

He Is Listening

TODAY’S VERSE
I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!
Psalms 116:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of reasons to love the Lord. But one that we often take for granted is His listening ear. The Psalmist wrote that he loved the Lord because God heard his voice and prayer for mercy. He painted a picture of God bending down to listen like an endearing grandfather does his grandchild. How we underestimate God’s loving attention. Studies have shown that shame in a young child is often related to the lack of response from their caregiver. The child made a bid for attention, and the caregiver paid no attention. The child’s conclusion is one of shame, “there must be something wrong with me.” Not so with God. When He hears our voice when He bends down to listen to our very whisper, how our soul responds in love. Today, spend time with God. He longs to hear your voice.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you for being there when I pray. Thanks for Your loving attention to the needs of my heart. I love you, Lord.
AMEN

Faith During The Storm

TODAY’S VERSE
The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped, and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”
Luke 8:24-25 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The disciples were in a boat when a fierce storm came up. It was so fierce that they panicked. They woke Jesus crying and shouting, “Master, we are going to drown.” Jesus simply woke up and calmed the storm. Then He asked, “Where is your faith?” We are so in the boat. Tossed and turned by life’s waves, we too start doubting the love and power of God. Now, on the one hand, the disciples did cry out to Jesus, which counted for something. On the other hand, they were acting out in total fear as if Jesus were not there. How could that be? How, after all, they had seen all the miracles, the raising of the dead, the blind seeing, how could they still panic when Jesus is right next to them? The truth is, they still didn’t know who Jesus really was. After Jesus cleared away the storm, Luke wrote, “The disciples were terrified and amazed. ‘Who is this man?’ they asked each other. ‘When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!’” Perhaps that’s where we should start. Who is this man? Who is Jesus? Knowing the answer can make all the difference. Today, ask Jesus to help you know Him better. Then perhaps next time a storm comes, you will rest in peace right next to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me know You better. Help me learn to trust You and rest in the storms of life. Help me have the faith to trust You.
AMEN

Meditate

TODAY’S VERSE
I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.
Psalms 145:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember leading a five-day hike in the mountains—what a treat for a young man born and raised in the flat terrain of Detroit, Michigan. And yet, I noticed on the second day that I had spent most of my time looking down at the trail, making sure I would not trip on the large tree roots or twist my ankle on loose rocks. All around me was some of nature’s most magnificent scenery, and all I took in was the subtle shades of green and brown on the ground in front of me. How is it we can be so close to something so glorious and not take the time to capture its essence? David knew the answer. He wrote, “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” David took the time to devote focused attention to God and His wonderful attributes. He dared to stop and reflect, to ponder on God’s almighty power, splendor, and miracles. And when he did, he was a better man for it. You see, focusing on God does not make God powerful; no more than my looking at the mountains makes them majestic. It only allows me to see and know the mysteries of what is already there. Today, don’t miss another moment. Don’t let another day go by without seeing and focusing on all that God is and all the love He has for you. He is majestic, He is full of glorious splendor, and His miracles abound.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You and Your glorious splendor. Help me stop and meditate on You. Help me focus my attention, love, and devotion toward You. Guide me into a deeper knowledge of You, I pray.
AMEN
