Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping – Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
Romans 4:10, 20-21(NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If there was ever a model for living the Christian life, it is Abraham. Look again at today’s verses. There is no better way to exemplify how we are to live. Abraham lived with an incredible relationship with God. He was totally immersed in faith. He did everything with God in mind. Look at what Paul writes, “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping – Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise.” More than that, Paul writes that Abraham was “fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” Just like you and I, Abraham, had choices to make every day. And he chose to trust God. He decided that he would put his faith and hope in Jehovah. What about you? Who are you going to trust? Who will you hope in? Who will you be counting on to do what He has promised? Today, choose to trust God in all you do. Put your faith and hope in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your power and majesty. Thank You for Your love for me. Today I choose to put all my hope, trust, and faith in You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love, Not Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans?
Isaiah 51:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is the opposite of “love”? Our first answer would no doubt be “hate.” I use to think so. However, the longer I live, the more I believe “fear” is the opposite of love. True, if I am going to “act” the opposite of love, it would be to hate. But if I am going to “live” the opposite of love, it would be to live in fear! Fear keeps me from love’s reality. Fear tells me that the promises of love are nothing but lies. Fear chooses to doubt love’s sincerity. Worse, it doubts the lover. When I choose to believe fear, it means I have chosen not to believe God. He says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” And yet I act as if we are abandoned, all alone with God nowhere in sight. I need to start seeing God as God. How about you? Do you live in the reality of His love? He is the one who comforts you. He is the one who will never leave you. He is the one who will never stop loving you. Today, believe it, rejoice in it, live as if it is true. It is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I live much of my life in quiet desperation. Fear is always challenging my belief in Your love for me. Today, I renounce that fear. I rebuke it in Jesus’ name and choose to believe in Your love for me.
AMEN

Trusting God

TODAY’S VERSE
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. – By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
Hebrews 11:1, 17-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How great is God’s patience toward us! How longsuffering He is with us. He knows how weak we are. He knows how scared, bruised, and weary we can get. So often, our faith weans in His presence. Our disappointments, fears, and doubts keep us from trusting Him. And yet His love patiently waits. He knows that “confidence” and “assurance” is a growth process. In today’s passage is a tremendous testimony of Abraham’s faith. He trusted God even while he lifted his knife to sacrifice his only son. What is amazing is that this was the same man that almost gave up his wife’s fidelity when he told Pharaoh that Sarah was his sister. Why? Because he was afraid, he did not trust God. He was the same man who had a child with his wife’s handmaiden. Why? Because he did not believe God would bring about the son that He had promised. Oh, the love of God, to patiently show more of Himself over a lifetime to Abraham so he would grow in confidence and that his assurance of God’s faithfulness would increase. As a result, it was recorded of Abraham for all the ages, “Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead.” Today, do not despair; God is not finished with you yet. Get back up and let God grow in you a deep confidence and absolute assurance.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father of Abraham, how I pray that you would grow in me a deep confidence and absolute assurance of You and Your love for me. I believe Lord, but help my unbelief. Increase my faith that I would be a living testimony of your power and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. – May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
II Peter 1:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love Peter’s faith in Christ. He went from a follower of Christ to a slave and apostle. And in his eyes, Jesus went from an itinerant Rabbi to Messiah to his Savior and Lord. What was his secret? How did he grow in his knowledge and experience of Christ? It was God’s grace. The very favor of God was given to him so he could grow in the Lord. The same is given to you. God has poured His knowledge into your mind and heart through the person of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because He has chosen to be gracious toward you. Today, accept His Divine assistance. Invite God to “give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your grace. I need Your Holy Spirit to give me more and more grace and peace as I grow in my knowledge of You. Help me, guide me, instruct me, I pray.
AMEN

Do You Know God?

TODAY’S VERSE
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
At first glance, you can read today’s passage and think that the author is asking a rhetorical question. Who hasn’t heard that the Lord God of the Universe is the everlasting God, creator of the ends of the earth? If you were going to believe in a God, wouldn’t you want an all-powerful one? No doubt, you would desire God to be the everlasting creator who never tires and has an understanding that is beyond our comprehension. But to be complete in your belief of God, you would need to understand that God is also compassionate to those in need, giving strength to the weary and helping those that are weak. It is this mighty, merciful God that Isaiah is asking about. He asks, “Do you not know? Have you not heard?” Otherwise, have you let the reality of this magnificent God change your life? It is by hoping in the LORD that loves you, that you will renew your strength. Trusting the Almighty God who never tires of being merciful to you will cause you to soar on wings like eagles. Isaiah assures, you will run and not grow weary; you will walk and not be faint. Today put your faith and trust in our everlasting God, the creator of the earth, the God who never tires of being compassionate toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, how I praise You for who You are. You are everlasting, the creator of the earth. Thank You for caring for me and giving me strength.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Romans 12:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus warned us, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” Life is, well life. It comes with all the ups and downs. But we must remember what Jesus said next. He said, “But take heart because I have overcome the world.” What comfort. This is why Paul could write to the church in Rome to rejoice in their hope. But not just a half-hearted hope. He said a hope that is confident in its outcome. With this confidence, he wrote that we could also be “patient in trouble.” This kind of patience comes out of the awareness that God is there and that He cares. That is why Paul finishes his instructions with, “Keep on praying.” God is greater than our worries. Today, when troubles come, be confident in your hope. Be patient and talk to God about your problems. He will guide you. He will comfort, He will give you strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that when troubles come, I can come near to You. I can be confident in my hope that You care, and will guide me and help me. Help me today to be patient and bring every worry to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Sufficient

TODAY’S VERSE
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
II Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I don’t understand suffering. Pain, heartache, sadness seem so antithetical to the love, joy, and peace that we claim is the Christian experience. I don’t understand why our first and only stop isn’t Heaven instead of earth. But here we are, and in this world, we do have tribulation. All of us have crosses to bear. In his book, “Desiring God’s Will,” Dr. Benner writes, “We experience good and bad in our childhood. But Jesus’ invitation is to accept the givens of our lives and follow Him. We experience love and betrayal in our marriages and friendships. But Jesus’ invitation remains the same, to accept the givens and follow Him. – We want to either fight against the suffering or ignore it. What Jesus asks is something quite different. – We can choose to acknowledge the suffering rather than ignore it. And while holding it, we can choose to look toward God. If we do, we discover God looking toward us.” The mystery in all of this is God’s grace. Grace stands between us and our pain. It is the salve for our breaking heart. It is the presence of God amid our darkness. It is the strength in our weakness. God promises it will be sufficient. He promises. Today, don’t turn away. Quit running. Lay down your burden and follow Christ. He is sufficient.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You. Only You can be my strength. Only You can give me the grace I need. I look to You, dear God, for You promised, Your grace will be sufficient.
AMEN

Hope and Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a glorious hope we have in Christ. Paul prays for the church in Rome, and we can claim this same prayer for ourselves. We can pray that God will fill us with joy and peace. Not just “fill” us, but “completely fill” us with joy and peace. How can He do this? He can do this because He is the source of all hope! And what do we need to do? What is our part in all of this? Our part is to trust Him. Simply trust in His love for you, and He promises that you will overflow with a confident hope, powered by the Holy Spirit. Today, put your trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, fill me with hope as I trust in You. Lord, turn that hope into joy and peace so I will overflow with confidence through the power of the Holy Spirit.
AMEN

In His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of the death and resurrection of Christ, we can come into the very presence of God and receive all the mercy, grace, and help we need, just when we need it most. What a significant truth this is! Amazingly, God allows us to spend time in His presence. What is even more amazing is how many of us don’t spend that precious time with Him. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer,” the author, Rick Richardson, writes, “My heart was receptive – As we walk the healing journey, no other single thing we can do, may have a greater impact than learning to listen to God. God’s voice is the healing voice, just as God’s presence is the healing presence. We must hear the voice of God reverberate in our soul, exposing the lies about our unlovability, worthlessness, or despair and speaking to us the truth. We must.” Christ has done everything needed so we can come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. Today, do it! Listen to Him. Be confident that He desires to speak the truth of your lovability and worth to you and make you whole. When you do, you will find all the mercy, grace, and love you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for providing a way that I can come into Your presence. Thank You that Christ is my High Priest, and I can go boldy into Your presence. Thank you for the confidence I can have that You will give me all the mercy, grace, and help I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Stop Coping, Start Living!

TODAY’S VERSE
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
For a long time, I had wrestled with my glasses. They were bent, causing me headaches and resulting in having to move my head awkwardly to make the bi-focal lens work right. But hey, I could see okay. I was coping fine. Eventually, my reading was worse, and I noticed signs starting to blur at far distances so I would move my glasses on my head and “cope” harder. Finally, I went in to get a new pair of glasses. I was embarrassed to realize that it had been over ten years since I last had an eye exam or a new pair of glasses. When the new glasses came, I was amazed at how much better I could see how less my face tensed up as I didn’t have to “cope” with seeing. Afterward, I couldn’t help but wonder how many issues I look at through worn out glasses, learning to cope with inferior sight when all the time a new pair of glasses is waiting for me? Jesus said He came to give us extraordinary living, not some half-baked coping. He offers life and peace. Our thinking is poor eye-sight at best. We need the direction of the Holy Spirit to give us the sight we need. Today, give up coping and start living. Quit trying to make it on your own, just getting by. Start living with the life and peace God has for you. Give your mind to the Holy Spirit and let Him take control.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have tried to cope on my own. I say, “I will follow You,” but instead, I rely on my efforts. Forgive me, Lord. Today, I give You all of me and ask You to control my life. I am tired of coping. I want the life You have for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN
