His Great Power

TODAY’S VERSE
I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.
Ephesians 1:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Here is a mystery. How in the world can I have something so great in my possession and totally ignore it? If I was a soldier on a mission I would be conscious that I had powerful weapons at my disposal. If I were a rich man going on a vacation, I would be fully aware of my financial ability. Yet day after day I live my life as if there were no presence of God or any of His power available for my life. How can this be? Is it that I am not conscious that I am in a spiritual battle, therefore, Christ’s power has no relevance to my life? Is it pride or arrogance that allows me to live as if everything depends on me instead of Christ? I thank God that Paul realized this spiritual cancer and set an example for us to follow. Paul wrote that I must ask God to help me understand the incredible power that He has available for my spiritual journey. It is with this understanding that I begin to ask God to do mighty things. How about you? Are you applying the power of God in your life? If not, start today. Ask God to help you begin to understand the incredible greatness of His power available for your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that You would help me trust You and understand the power you have available for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Spirit Do you Have?

TODAY’S VERSE
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
II Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What attitude are we letting control our life? With the rise in crime, a faltering economy and a tight job market it is easy to let fear, doubt, and insecurity fill our hearts. When we do, we find our self paralyzed, not able to live by faith, stepping out to trust God. It was the same way in Paul’s time. There was poverty, persecution, sickness and government unrest. It would have been easy for the churches to be gripped by fear, but Paul insisted that they had another choice. Why? Because of God! God makes the difference. It is God that gives us power, love, and self-discipline. What a combination. Is there any combination that is stronger? God gives us His power. This is an unlimited source of strength for whatever we set out to do. Then He adds to it love. This is the greatest force in the universe. People armed with love can overcome any odds. Finally, God has given us the ability to be disciplined in doing His will. With our consistent disciplined use of His power and love, what should we be afraid of? Today, put off any fear and timidity and let God’s power and love guide your journey.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear or timidity. Instead, Lord, You have given me power, love, and self-discipline. Help me use it today.
AMEN

Living For Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their thought. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
John 17: 20-21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This was more than a prayer Jesus prayed. It was His mission statement. His goal was to spread the thought that there was a loving God that had salvation for all people, to all ends of the earth. He knew that this would only happen if we worked together. It is through the oneness of purpose and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that we can spread His message to all the ends of the earth. In his book, “The Deeper Journey” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “Union with God results in our being a person through whom God’s presence touches the world with forgiving, cleansing, healing, liberating and transforming grace. – The world will not believe in Christ because of our sound theology, our correct Creed, our well-defined dogma, our rigorous religiosity. The world will believe when it sees Christlikeness manifested in our life.” Today, might we commit our self to be a more effective witness for Christ through our unity, faith, and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for You. Help me join other believers in a deeply loving relationship, so together, we will be a witness of Your love, grace, and truth.
AMEN

Keep On Keeping On

TODAY’S VERSE
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have probably fought with this passage more than any other portion of scripture. How many times have I had to pray over situations that seemed impossible without God’s intervention? Overcoming mental anguish, living in poverty wondering how the bills were going to be paid, facing a near-fatal illness of a loved one, rebuilding a failing relationship, seeking direction when I didn’t have a clue what to do. I am sure you can add your own experiences to this list. And so you find your self before God praying. Nothing happens so you pray again and again. After a while you begin to wonder, “God are You there?” That soon turns to, “God do You care?” There is a saying that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. And that is how you feel. You start to doubt and then God brings you back to this passage. You read with tears in your eyes, “Keep on asking”, “Keep on seeking”, “Keep in knocking”. So you have to make a choice. Is this insanity or is it faith? There is a huge difference. The difference is God. God is in the picture so every time we pray we know that the God who is able to do all that we ask is there. He cares and He hears our prayers. He knows our situation and has not abandoned us. Because we have prayed He is moved. And so we keep on keeping on. We live by faith, we ask by faith and many times we have to wait by faith. But it is faith in the God who is there. The God who knows. The God who cares. So today, let us again hang on to His promise, “Everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You in faith. I come asking, seeking and knocking. I come in faith believing that everyone who asks, receives, everyone who seeks, finds and to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
AMEN

Freedom

TODAY’S VERSE
And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Romans 8:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David knew what it was to struggle with moral choices. Doing the right thing is not always easy. We struggle with all kinds of conflicting thoughts, attitudes and emotions. Paul struggled this way. In the book of Romans he wrote, “I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong.” The good news is Paul knew where to look for help. Paul asks the question, “Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” Both David and Paul knew the answer. It is God that can set you and I free if we let Him. David cries out to God, “Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me.” Paul writes, “The power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin.” What a glorious thought. God, through the power of His Holy Spirit, enables you and me to be free from the tyranny of sin with all its guilt and shame. Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the instruction from the word of God and the encouragement of other believers we can live the life God desires us to. Will we sin? Yes, but it doesn’t have to be our master. Our allegiance is to Christ and He has set us free!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for forgiving me. Thank You for the power of the life-giving Holy Spirit that has freed me from the power of sin, guilt, and shame.
AMEN

Overcoming Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
II Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We often think of fear as the reaction to scary events, like the screams in a horror movie. But some of our most fearful behavior is often hidden from us. Many people who are living daily in fear aren’t even aware of it. In “Surrender To Love” Dr. Benner writes, “One of the things that block us from gaining freedom from fear is that most fearful people don’t think of themselves as afraid. Unless their fears are focused on something external (such as snakes, heights or crowds), most people in bondage to fear, fail to recognize the true nature of their inner distress. – Although the object of one’s fears may seem to be external, the real source of the fear is internal. The danger is within. The enemy is one’s own self or at least some aspect of their self.” This is what Paul was trying to get across. We are so focused on our behavior we don’t see the motivation behind it. Paul called it a “spirit of fear”. It is this internal pervasive fear that controls what we do. It is spiritual and emotional. Satan is a liar and accuser so he fills our head with fear. Our own experience and belief systems do the rest. If we take most of the fear we have, we will see that it is a fear because of what we think and believe. But today’s passage says that we do not have to live in that kind of fear. Why? Because God has given us something else. He has given us power, love and a sound mind. What an alternative to anything we would dread. Every spirit of fear can be defeated either by God’s power, love or the sound mind He has given us. So today, when you are tempted to act out of fear, remember, there are other options. Give the power, love and the sound mind that God has given you a chance.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for not giving me a spirit of fear. Today, I want to live in Your power, love and sound mind that You have given me.
AMEN

God’s Faithfulness

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.
I Samuel17:37 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If we would remember all the times that God delivered us from trouble we would enjoy a much more peaceful life. So many times I start my day as if it was the only day I have ever lived. Now I don’t mind forgetting some of the bad things in my life but when I begin to live as if God were not alive then I need to do some memory exercises. God has created us with a powerful memory so we could grow mentally, socially and spiritually. Throughout the Bible, we are admonished to “remember” the goodness of God. Hope, peace, faith all come out of a memory of God’s faithfulness in the past. David was going to fight Goliath and all he took with him was a sling, five smooth stones and memory of God’s deliverance. Listen to what he said when he went to face the giant. “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” What are you facing? What giant is between you and victory? Remember God’s faithfulness in the past and trust Him with today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. Help me remember all the good things you have done and how you have acted on my behalf. Then when trial and struggles come, help me step out in faith knowing that you are the same today that You were yesterday.
AMEN

Praise God With Your Whole Heart

Praise God With Your Whole Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His Holy name.
Psalms 103:1

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to live day by day and never really take the time to praise God. Part of this is due to the fact that we have relegated worship and praise to one hour a week. We have segmented our lives with spirituality being only a small part. Even when we do participate at church in corporate worship it is often just intellectual assent. The words barely sink in. It is not wholeheartedly. This is not the way God intended our worship to be. Instead, God wants us to praise Him with everything that is inside us. David wrote, “Let ALL that I am praise the Lord!” This includes our emotion, knowledge, and personality. He wants us to praise Him with our “whole” heart. It is not a “half-hearted” affair. God wants our all. Everything we are and hope to be. Today, praise God for all that He is. Praise Him for what He has done. Praise Him with everything you have, praise Him with your whole heart. Truly God is worthy!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come now to praise Your Holy name. I praise You for all that You are. I praise You from my whole heart. I sincerely love You and praise You with everything inside me. Praise You, Lord!
AMEN

Perfect Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
I John 4:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Not all fear is equal. There is legitimate fear and false fear. God wants to free us from both. With true fear, we need to lean on His love and power. With false fear, we need to lean on the truth. False fear is the anxiety and panic we feel over something that in reality should not trouble us. It is built on a lie. For example, fear of abandonment, rejection, and failure are often the result of feeling unlovable and broken. These are lies. The truth is that God made you loveable and He will never abandon you. He created you and you are not damaged goods. This kind of fear can keep you from being all that God created you to be. Yes, some with conditional love may have rejected you, yes in some people’s eyes you may not measure up but that does not define you. It does not negate what God’s believes about you. God’s love trumps all other opinions, even your own. Theirs is not the final word! God’s is. That is what John meant when he wrote. “Perfect love expels all fear.” Today consider all your self-doubts and negative beliefs that push you into panic and bring them all to the Cross of Calvary. Let God’s perfect love expel all your fears and fill your heart with joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with fear. I need your truth about me and not believe lies that send me into a panic. I need to know Your perfect love. Help me live in that love without fear. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Fear No More

TODAY’S VERSE
I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear comes in different shapes and sizes. To be sure, there are full-blown phobias and crippling fears that can interrupt our life; but for most of us, fear is more insidious. Fears of rejection, insignificance, and abandonment may not interrupt our life but they can sure influence the way we think and act. You see, our thoughts, motives, and behaviors are constantly shaped by either faith or fear. The Psalmist found the secret. He said that if we seek the Lord, He will deliver us from all our fears. Turn on the light of faith and the darkness of fear will dissipate. Decide to seek God today. Move away from fear, toward faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to trade my fears for faith. Today, when fear comes to my attention, I will seek You. I will seek You with all of my heart. Thank You that You promise to deliver me.
AMEN
