Lead Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Proverb 3:5-6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I was trained in wilderness school, the goal was to teach us to be a good guide. They took us on courses and training where our lives were literally in the hand of the person leading us. The training guide knew where we were and how to get us where we were going. The guide knew the terrain and how to survive in every condition. A wilderness is a wild and unpredictable environment; a good guide will get you through it. We need a guide to get us through the mountains and valleys of this life. We need a guide to lead us through the difficult times when we seem lost, and all is hopeless. Solomon says, “Trust in the Lord with all our heart and He will direct our path.” More specifically, Jesus promised He will give us the Holy Spirit to guide us. God, through the Holy Spirit, will lead us into all truth. And in the wilderness, truth is king! There is no room for error; you need the truth to guide you every step of the way. So, where are you today? Where are you going? How will you get there? You need the Holy Spirit to be your guide. Proverbs warn us not to lean on our understanding; instead, we need to acknowledge our need for God. Come to God today and ask Him to lead you. Surrender to His guidance and let Him direct your paths. Might the verse of an old Sunday School song be your prayer today, “My God knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, You know how I need You to direct my path today. I can’t do it by myself. I surrender to You and ask that You would lead me through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Guide me, direct me, lead me this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Knows My Needs

TODAY’S VERSE
Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Matthew 6:32-33

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can complicate life, can’t we? There are so many demands on our life. We think we must do so many things we have lost sight of what is essential. Jesus would say to us, “Stop filling your life with so many other things and let Me fulfill your real need.” You see, Jesus knows what satisfies and offers it to all His followers. He said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” The real secret to this life is to live in His Kingdom instead of our own. We need to live in this world with heaven’s priority. God loves you. Trust Him, live for Him, and He promises He will give you everything you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my name. You know who I am. You also know my needs. Thank You for Your promise that if I seek Your Kingdom above everything else, You will give me everything I need. So I come to You now, Father, and ask that You help me live for You. I entrust my needs to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Don’t Forget

TODAY’S VERSE
“If only the LORD had killed us back in Egypt,’” they moaned. “There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.”
Exodus 16:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One month after the Lord had delivered them from the hand of Pharaoh, the children of Israel found themselves in a desert. Did they remember the mighty miracles that God used to deliver them from slavery? Did they remember the dry ground they walked on that was once covered by the Red Sea? No, they forgot and complained to Moses that they would have been better off back in Egypt! What about our human nature causes us to forget good things so quickly? Charles Spurgeon said, “I don’t know which to marvel more at, God’s faithfulness or man’s forgetfulness.” Why is this so important? Because remembering is vital to our survival. God teaches us life lessons that are needed later in life, but our propensity is to forget. The lesson for the Israelites would be, “Don’t forget in the desert what you learned at the Red Sea.” What about you? Do you remember how faithful God has been to you in the past? Today, stop and remember all that God has done for you. Remember His faithfulness. Remember His provision. Remember His presence in times past and go forward in the reality that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my forgetfulness. Instead, Lord, help me remember all that You have done and all that You have promised. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

My Heart, God’s Home

TODAY’S VERSE
The one thing I ask of the LORD, the thing I seek most, is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. – My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.’”
Psalms 27:4, 8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David was a shepherd boy who knew and loved God. Because of David’s heart toward God, God called David to be king of Israel. And a great king he was. But more than a king, David remained a man that sought after the heart of God. I can imagine David in his palace, a long way from the cold nights in the fields with the sheep, wishing he was back in the fields with the stars in the sky, playing his harp and worshiping God. David’s heart cried, “I want to live in the house of the Lord, delighting in Him!” And that is what he did. His heart did become a house of God. From his heart, he wrote the Psalms. What an offering of worship and praise to God. God would invite us to do the same. What is in your heart? Is it a home for God? Is it a Temple of praise and thanksgiving? If not, it can be. Like David, God comes to you and says, “Come and talk with me.” When He does, respond like David and say, “Lord, I am coming.” Today, you can be a “person after God’s own heart.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have bid me come to You. I am coming even now. Like David, I want to be a person after Your own heart. I come today and ask You to take my heart and make it Your home. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Seek Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 29:12-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a mystery to knowing God. His love draws us to Him. God has made it abundantly clear that “whosoever will” may come to Him, but this is the beginning, not the end. If we are to follow Jesus, be His disciple, and take knowing Him seriously, He demands preeminence in our life. Solomon knew this. God offered him anything his heart desired, and Solomon chose Godly wisdom. He writes that it is the same for us. We need to “call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding.” He assures us that knowing God will come when we look for Him, like we would look for silver and search for Him as we would search for hidden treasure. Jeremiah says it another way. He says we will find God when we seek Him with all our hearts. How much have you wanted to know God? What treasure are you seeking? What has your heart sought after? If God is going to be a serious part of your life, if you are going to live in His wisdom, then you must make knowing Him a priority. God didn’t say we had to be smart, rich, talented, or gifted to know Him. The only requirement is desire. Turn your passion toward God. When you do, He promises, “I will be found by you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I admit I have let my desire wander. I have sought for fools’ gold. I have put other priorities ahead of knowing You. I come today and seek You with all my heart. Father, I yearn for Your wisdom. I desire to have understanding. I want to know You more than anything else. Teach me, guide me, lead me. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus.
AMEN

My Idolatry

TODAY’S VERSE
“Has anyone ever heard of anything as strange as this? Has any nation ever traded its gods for new ones, even though they are not gods at all? Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols! The heavens are shocked at such a thing and shrink back in horror and dismay,” says the LORD.
Jeremiah 2:11-12

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This passage shows the real heart of God and how He desires us to know and love Him. You may ask, “But how am I guilty of giving up God for idols?” Perhaps it makes more sense to exchange the word “idol” and read it as “traded their God for television.” Maybe career, wealth, or busyness would be better word substitutes. How God desires us to know Him, to love Him, to worship and serve Him, and yet as humans, we find ourselves so distracted, so inconsistent in our commitment to Him. Look over the last month. How would heaven react to the preference you have given God? Today, give up whatever has stolen your heart, your time, and your dedication to God and return to Him. Worship Him as the true and living God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have let other things crowd You out of my everyday experience. I have been guilty of idolatry by not making You first. Today, I choose to reignite my love for You. I declare that You are Almighty God and give You my allegiance. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Trust, Delight, and Commit

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
Psalms 37:3-5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Attitude is everything. How we react to situations makes all the difference in the world. David knew this, and God shared with him the secret to spiritual success. First, when circumstances arise, we are to trust in the Lord. We need to move ahead in faith. But even as we advance in faith, if we want to experience the joy in the journey, we must take the time to delight in God. Getting to know Him, building a relationship, and learning to enjoy living for God will keep us through difficult times. Thirdly, we need to come to God with total commitment. How often do we start with trust and delight in God, but when things go sour, or there seems to be no relief in sight, we give up? Committing everything to God means we trust Him in the long run. Today we can start our journey with David’s attitude; we can bring everything to God and trust, delight, and commit.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with my attitude. I come to You today and trust You with my life. Help me know You and delight in You. Lord, I commit everything I am and have to You and am thankful that You will help me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

This Generation

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Psalms 78:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are meant to pass on. Hope in God is one of them. We look back at the early church and say, “If only God would do His mighty deeds today?” Why won’t He? Isn’t He the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow? Aren’t we called to live by faith in the same way that Paul taught the early church? Are not all the promises of God’s provision true today as they were centuries ago? Jesus said that he would commission us in the power of the Holy Spirit to do even greater things than He did! This is our generation. It is time for our hope to be realized. May we not forget His miracles and obey Him fully, expecting God to do great and mighty things, even today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I am thankful to live in such a time as this. You are alive and mighty. You are loving and compassionate. I hear of all Your miracles in time past and say, “This is my generation, and I put my hope in You. Work through me in all Your power as You have in the past.” In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Not Ashamed

TODAY’S VERSE
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
II Timothy 2:15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have choices to make every day. Today we can choose to live for God or to live for ourselves. Even if we decide to live for God, we will still have to make that choice every time we come to a decision that could potentially take us away from living the way He wants us to. Will we do the right thing or not? That is why Paul says to “do our best” at living our Christian life. It is not easy to resist temptations, go the extra mile, love the unlovely, and put others before ourselves, yet this is the life God has called us to. He has called us to be good workers who will not be ashamed when examined and will be approved of—a worker who knows God’s word and can apply it correctly to their actions. Thankfully, we don’t have to live the way God wants us to in our own power. We have the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. Today, call upon the Holy Spirit to fill you, guide you, and help you “do your best to present yourself to God as one approved.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for You as a workman who isn’t ashamed. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to honor You in everything I do today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

That People Would Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.
I Kings 18:36-37

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Elijah challenged 450 Baal worshippers to a contest. Elijah and the Priests of Baal would put up two altars complete with offerings, and whichever, Baal or Jehovah, would throw down fire from Heaven onto the sacrifice was the real God. Elijah was confident that it would be Jehovah because he was doing what he commanded. Today our faith in God is on trial more than ever before. God has given us commands too. Not a command to call fire down from Heaven but to live our Christian life out in front of the world. Why should we love others? Why should we care? Why should we live a life exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit? Because, like Elijah, we are servants of the Most High, and we are to do what He has commanded us to. God’s great compassion is exhibited throughout our lives. As we love others, in the name of Christ, they see the love He has for them. How can we do anything else? We who were snatched from our sinfulness, brokenness, and alienation from God, how could we not love others and pray for them to know God the same way we do? Elijah cries out to God in a broken voice and says, “Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God and that you are turning their hearts back again.” Do our hearts weep over those that do not know Him? Do we live so that others would see our life and recognize the Savior’s influence? Oh, that God’s holy fire would fall from the sky today through our acts of love and kindness. Might He receive the Glory, and might people turn to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, like Elijah, I come to the altar of sacrifice. Might You use me today to love, sacrifice, and care for those in need. Might others see my life today and come to know You, the true and living God. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
