Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.
Galatians 5:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can let a lot of things guide our life. Desires, intuition, pride, lust, materialism, and what Paul calls our “sinful desire.” He wrote in this same passage, “The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants.” Paul shares that the way we can resist living a life following our evil desires is to belong to Christ and then nail our passions and desires of our sinful nature to the cross that Christ died on. Christ wants us to die to our passions and then let Him resurrect us to new passions led by His Holy Spirit. Today, follow what Paul finishes his thoughts with, “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I surrender to You. Today, I choose to die to my own passions and follow Your leading in every part of my life.
AMEN

Come To Your Senses

TODAY’S VERSE
God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
II Timothy 2:25-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt God nudge you? You know, the feeling in your stomach that something is not right. The twinge in your conscience that says, “This is wrong.” The circumstance that goes haywire and wakes you up from your spiritual stupor. The concern from a friend that gently warms you of impending danger. God uses these and more to help us repent. And in that single acknowledgment that God is right and we are so desperately wrong, He leads us to the truth. We come to our senses and can flee the trap that Satan had for us. How good God’s grace is. He saves us from the penalty of our sin and often the consequences of our sinning. Today, say with David, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, thank You for watching over me. Thank You for helping me see the error of my way and leading me to repentance. Today, help me live for You.
AMEN

Praise Him

TODAY’S VERSE
I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Ps. 34:1 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is much attention given today to “Being in the moment.” How much of our anxiety and depression is because we either live in the past or anticipate the future? How much better would life be if we lived in the fullness of this moment and did not react to things beyond our control? The good news is that God has given us a way to focus on the “now.” It is called praise. Yes, almost three thousand years before modern Psychology, David shares how to have good mental and spiritual health. He encourages us to praise God in all things. Praise keeps our attention on God in this moment. He is the God “who is there,” and we can praise Him in all things. If you want joy, if you want peace, if you want a vital Spiritual walk, then listen to what David made as his life motto, “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I praise You for being there every moment of my life. I will bless You at all times. Your praise will continually be in my mouth.
AMEN

Don’t Lose Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
So do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being rewarded day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many ways to lose heart. The one Paul is talking about is when circumstances go awry, and we become deeply discouraged. It is as if the heart is taken right out of us. It seems that our life is gone. Paul encourages us not to lose heart in our circumstances because God can and will renew us if we turn to Him. The other way we lose heart is through apathy. It is a slower loss, but a loss nonetheless. The problem here is that there is no renewing going on. No daily habits or consciousness of God to bring life back to our souls. Paul gave us the remedy for both spiritual dilemmas. He wrote, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” This “fullness of life and power” can renew us no matter how much we lose our heart. Today, stop and ask the Holy Spirit to help you experience the love of Christ. Come near to Him. Let Him renew your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, renew my heart. Help me to experience the love of Christ with all its life and power.
AMEN

A Big Challenge

TODAY’S VERSE
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
James 1:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some passages of scripture are more challenging to live out than others. We can read, “Love one another,” and go away, not doing anything. We deceive ourselves or, at best, let ourselves off the hook because it is not specific enough. I can believe I am “loving” someone and be way off base. However, James writes today’s verse fairly straightforwardly. He says that we need to be quick to listen to others. We need to wait before we speak. Then he adds, be very slow at getting mad. How better life would be if we followed James’ wisdom. But just in case we don’t understand how serious he is, James adds this admonition, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” So today, let’s do what the word says and be quick to listen, slow to speak , and slow to become angry.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to be quick to listen, slow to speak , and slow to become angry.
AMEN

God’s Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.
Romans 5:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can do a lot with our sins. We can rationalize them, ignore them, glorify them, obsess about them, flaunt them, regret them or repent of them. No matter what we do with our sinful behavior, the Bible makes it clear that our sins separate us from God. The good news is that God can do one thing with our sins that we cannot. He can forgive them, no longer counting them against us. He does that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God, in His grace, forgives us of all our sins. Paul wrote it this way, “So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Today, acknowledge any wrongdoing. Bring it to Him; knowing this, our sins will never exhaust God’s grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for Your amazing grace. Thank You that Your grace is greater than all my sins, and if I confess my sins, You are faithful and just to forgive me of all my sins and cleanse me from all my wrongdoing.
AMEN

Integrity

TODAY’S VERSE
I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.
Psalms 101:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Why is it so hard to live out our Christian experience at home? We can be cooperative at work, a model Christian at church but have a tirade at home. It is so easy to take advantage of those we love. And temptations? At the end of the day, when our willpower is diminished, and we are crying out for comfort from an exhausting day, we can find our lust at its peak, addictions crying out, and moods shifting in a negative direction. But God desires integrity. Integrity is being honest with ourselves. It is deciding to do the next right thing, even at a personal cost. It is humbling ourselves and letting God do what He does best, change us. Today, let us decide to live a life of integrity where it counts the most, at home.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, save me from myself. Help me examine my life and make the necessary changes so I can lead a life of integrity in my home.
AMEN

Renew Me

TODAY’S VERSE
The people kept sinning. Despite his wonders, they refused to trust him.
Psalms 78:32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What sad words. How many times have we ignored the Lord? How many times have we experienced His wonders, and when the next trial comes, we refuse to trust Him. Yet, as we go further into the Psalm, we read, “He was merciful and forgave their sins.” What great news! God is full of grace and mercy. The Apostle John promised, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” So today, let’s marvel at the wonder of the Lord and quit sinning. However, if we do, let’s confess it, repent and receive His mercy and grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am so sorry for ignoring your wonders. I know I have sinned, and I ask for your grace and mercy to renew me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

We Need Revival

TODAY’S VERSE
Everyone was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”
Luke 5:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When was the last time you saw the church grip people with great wonder and awe? We claim that we worship the Great Almighty God, yet what amazing, incredible, unbelievable testimony affects those around us? Are we beseeching the Heavens asking God to bring revival so His fame would be spread throughout the earth? Do people see us as those in love with Jesus, having our sins washed away and serving Him out of gratitude? Today, rejoice in your salvation. Marvel at His grace in your life and then tell others. Let them be gripped with great wonder and awe at a God who loves them and wants to make them His dear children. Then they, too, will say, “We have seen amazing things today.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the great wonder and awe of Your grace in my life. Help me to share Your love with others. Move mightily among those I know that are far from you. Open their eyes, that they too would come to know You and taste Your amazing grace.
AMEN

What Is Required?

TODAY’S VERSE
And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The nation of Israel had lost its love for God. They bought into idolatry and were not living according to God’s standards. The prophet Micah wrote a scathing rebuke accusing them of idolatry, exploitation of the poor, and not knowing right from wrong. In repentance, they asked God what they should do? Micah answers by telling them to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. What about us? Is God a vital part of our life? Are we living according to His word? Today, let us heed the words of Micah and do what is required of us. Let’s humble ourselves before God and bring mercy and justice to all those around us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my lack of humility before you. Forgive me for my apathy toward justice and mercy. Instead, help me to align my life according to Your will. Today, I want to walk humbly with You, full of justice and mercy.
AMEN
