You Were Chosen

TODAY’S VERSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you just have to read it for yourself. This is not something your Pastor made up. It is not some “nice” idea. God inspired Paul to include today’s verse in Holy Scriptures. Paul wrote that before God created the world, He loved you and chose you to be in Christ, holy and without fault. Paul elaborated on this theme by writing, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Let the thought that creating you brought God great pleasure sink deep into your heart. Today, rejoice at this incredible fact, if you know Christ as your Savior, you are His adopted child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I am humbled that creating and adopting me into your family brought you great pleasure. I am full of thanksgiving for You loving me and choosing me to be holy and without fault in Your eyes. Thank You, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Choose The Truth

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you. He will never be able to rescue you. Don’t let him fool you into trusting in the LORD by saying, ‘The LORD will surely rescue us. This city will never fall into the hands of the Assyrian king!’
Isaiah 36:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
King Sennacherib of Assyria sent his chief of staff to go and intimidate King Hezekiah and the people in Jerusalem. The King of Assyria was going to lay siege to the city and had heard of God’s protection. He also knew that God wouldn’t need to protect them if they surrendered, so he used fear and intimidation to get them to distrust God’s faithfulness and strength. That is how Satan works. He tempts us to doubt God and His truth. “Did God really say?” is what he asked Eve in the Garden of Eden. “If you really are the Son of God” is how he began his temptation of Jesus. What are you struggling with? Where are you being attacked? What is Satan saying to you? What doubts are you tempted to believe? Remember Satan is the “Father of lies” and Jesus said, “The truth will set you free.” Today, choose the truth. Believe in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, so often, I am assailed with doubts and lies. I am tempted to give up and give in. Forgive me, Lord. I believe; today help my unbelief. I choose truth.
AMEN

Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
You must worship Christ as Lord of your life.
I Peter 3:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We love Jesus because He died on the cross for us. We know Him as our Savior, but He wants us to take our relationship to a higher level. He wants to be the Lord of our life. Joshua told the children of Israel, “Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. – As for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” Centuries later, Peter challenged the church to worship Christ as Lord. The word “Lord” is a title for a person or deity with authority or control over a person. If anyone could be the Lord of our life, it is Jesus. He could have made us servants with no will of our own, but instead, He gives us a choice. Today, consider who He really is. He is worthy of total surrender. Worship Christ as Lord of your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for being my Savior. I ask You to be Lord. Guide me, direct me; I give You total control of my life.
AMEN

Discernment

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised.
Psalms 119:169 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you seek when troubles come? What do you do when the stress is really getting to you and you begin to feel helpless? God bids us to come to Him. God sent us the Holy Spirit, the comforter, to guide and lead us. He also has given us the Scriptures. In today’s verse, the Psalmist asked for understanding and discernment and knew it came from God’s assurances and promises. The Apostle Paul also knew the power of God’s promises and wrote to his disciple Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” Today, cry out to God. Let Him know what is on your mind, and then let Him give you the confidence, discernment, and understanding you need through His word.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, please comfort, guide, and give me the discernment and understanding I need for my life. Teach me through the Holy Scriptures, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
Luke 6:46 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Obedience is an essential part of discipleship. Our pride, desires, and ambitions often get in the way, and if we are not careful, we will find ourselves in a state of rebellion. To get His point about obedience across, Jesus used the illustration of building a house. He taught us that the foundation we build our life on is critical. Those who choose to listen to Him and obey His words are compared to a wise builder who puts a solid foundation under his home. When the storms come the house stands. If we do not obey, we are building our home on the sand, and the house will fall when the storms come. So today, let’s do both, call Jesus Lord and do what He says to do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, forgive me for the times I have called You, Lord, and have not done what You have told me to do. Help me take Your Lordship seriously today and dedicate myself to obeying Your teachings.
AMEN

At Home In Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus desires to be at home in your heart. It is possible to live in a house and not feel at home. Likewise, Jesus yearns to be more than a houseguest in our life. Therefore, God, in His wisdom and with all His glorious resources, empowers us with the inner spiritual strength we need to live the kind of life that Christ would be at home at. This inner strength helps us align our attitudes, beliefs, and personal life with His. We will feel our Spiritual roots growing deeper and deeper into His love. The result is a richer spiritual relationship with Christ. So today, ask the Holy Spirit to empower you in your inward being. Then you will make Christ more at home in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Christ, I ask You to empower me with Your Holy Spirit, so I can have the strength to make my heart the place You will feel at home.
AMEN

What Are You Passionate About?

TODAY’S VERSE
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.
Colossians 3;16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever met a sports fanatic? Try to talk about anything other than their favorite team and see what happens. Their passion for the sport consumes them. But it begs the question, “What are we passionate about? What do we meditate on?” Paul encourages us to let the richness of Christ’s message fill our hearts. It reminds me of an old hymn that says, “I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love. I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true; It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.” If people can become fanatics about sports, science, food, music, and thousands of other things, how much more should the love of Christ consume us? Today let the message of Christ fill your life in all its richness.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for letting so many other things fill my life. Today fill my heart with your love. Fill my life with the richness of Your story so that I might worship and honor You in all I do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Careful How You Live

TODAY’S VERSE
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Ephesians 5: 15-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s verse brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, “Think before you act.” Paul knew that our human nature left unattended can shipwreck our life. That is why he was careful to give us instructions on our thinking. Paul wrote that we need to be wise, not foolish, in our decisions. He emphasizes that we need to seek God’s will for our lives and make every effort to understand what He wants us to do. Paul then sums all this up, instructing us to be “filled with the Holy Spirit.” Being filled with the Spirit means to be under the control or total influence of the Holy Spirit. It is a Christian mindset that totally directs our life. So today, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and live every moment for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Help me understand Your will for my life so I can make the most of every opportunity to live for you.
AMEN

Plant In Good Soil

TODAY’S VERSE
The seeds that fell among the thorns represent those who hear the message, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares and riches and pleasures of this life. And so they never grow into maturity.
Luke 8:14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus told the parable about the farmer that planted some seed. Some of the seed fell on the footpath and the birds came and ate it. This represented Satan who comes and distracts and discourages us with doubts right from the start, stealing the seed that was planted. Some seed landed on stone. It sprouted fast because of the warmth and some moisture trapped in the rocks. Everything seemed right until the roots tried to grow. They couldn’t because the rocks were in the way. The rocks represented temptations that keep us from following Jesus. Perhaps the illustration that is most prevalent for us today is found in today’s verse. This is the seed that was cast into the weeds and thorns. The weeds represent the cares, riches and pleasures of this life that come and choke out our spiritual growth. How is the seed that was planted in your heart? Is it being nourished and cared for through prayer, the scriptures and a personal relationship with Christ? Today, examine your spiritual life. Get rid of anything that is impeding your growth and let the seed grow in the deep rich soil of your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for letting doubts, distractions, temptations and cares for this world impede my spiritual growth. Today I rededicate myself to You and open my heart to receive deep spiritual growth. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Cares

TODAY’S VERSE
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
I Peter 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems so counterintuitive. Give your worries and cares to someone else? That is precisely why you are worrying. You don’t have anyone to give your cares to! Who do you trust? Who can take all your cares, concerns, everything you worry about, and “Poof!” they’re gone? And yet Peter comes along and says that you can give all your worries and cares to God! More than that, Peter gives you two reasons why you can trust his advice. First, it is God he is talking about. It is nothing for Almighty God, the Master of the Universe, to handle your situations. But the second reason is just as convincing. Peter insists that you can bring your cares to God because He lovingly cares for you. What a glorious gift. What a tremendous blessing. So today, come to God and give Him all your worries and cares. He really does care for you!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, I come to You with all my cares. I bring all my worries to You. Today, I put my complete trust in You, because I believe You care for me.
AMEN
