Stand Firm

TODAY’S VERSE
Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When fear comes, it attacks you at your weakest point, and you are caught in a crisis of faith. Paul knew what danger was and how bad things could get. Yet while sitting in prison, he wrote that we, regardless of danger, need to be strong in the Lord and His mighty power! How? How can we maintain such strength? Paul knew we could not do it ourselves, so he wrote, “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm.” He uses various pieces of armor as a metaphor. We are in a war for our soul, and our helmet of salvation protects our soul, and nothing will ever separate us from His love. Nothing! The belt of truth and the body armor of righteousness protects us from the horrific lies that attack us. Guilt and shame cannot touch us. Paul follows with the shoes of peace. Both peace with God and the peace of God will help fear dissipate. Our shield of faith stops all the fiery arrows of the devil. And the Sword of the Holy Spirit slays all our enemies. The Spirit prays on our behalf. He comforts, protects, and leads us to victory. Today, stand firm! Put on your spiritual armor and be strong in the Lord and His mighty power.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, help me today take salvation, truth, peace, faith, and Your Spirit and stand firm in Your mighty power. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Conscious Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s harder than it seems. You would think that having God, with all His love for us, all His power, all His knowledge, all His tremendous grace and mercy toward us, we would be excited about knowing Him! I mean, we get excited about sports teams. We become obsessed with television programs. We spend countless hours in pursuit of our interests, hobbies, and careers. We think these things will bring us peace, but often, they only help us cope with our lack of peace. They are treating the symptoms but never getting to the cause. Instead, true peace comes when we make God our magnificent obsession. Isaiah shares that God will keep us in a deep mature peace as we trust in Him. As we fix our thoughts on Him, we will become more and more aware of His presence. We will trust Him more, share with Him more, and listen to His voice more. This becomes a relationship with God, and it is in this continuous relationship we will find peace. Today, make it the cry of your heart to know Him, trust Him, and become conscious of Him throughout the day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to know You. I want to be conscious of Your presence in my life. Today, help me fix my thoughts on You.
AMEN

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
Luke 7:37-38

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much do you worship Jesus? Here was a woman who knew she was immoral but also knew Jesus. She came to worship Him, bringing expensive alabaster oil with her. She entered the house and knelt behind Jesus, pouring the oil on his feet intermingled with her tears. Some at the table were indignant, feeling it was a waste. They said it was worth a whole year’s wages and could have been given to the poor. This woman came to worship Jesus, and it cost her a full year’s salary, humiliation, scorn, ridicule, and judgment. She risked being rejected by those in the house, but somehow she knew she would be okay with Jesus. Maybe that is why she cried. She felt total acceptance, perhaps for the first time. She experienced a deep sense of self-worth, so gratitude overwhelmed her heart. She was forgiven much, and she loved much. How much do you love God? How much have you been forgiven? Today, worship Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I come now to worship You. You are worthy of all my praise and adoration. I give You thanks for Your love and forgiveness. Please accept from my heart my deepest gratitude.
AMEN

What Do You Treasure?

TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
Philippians 3:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you treasure? Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” So if you want to know what you treasure, check your heart. What consumes you? What do you spend your time on? What do you talk about? What lights you up? Paul treasured His relationship with Christ. He wrote, “For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.” Knowing Christ was everything to Paul. He treasured it because it had value; it offered him more than anything this world could give him. He wrote, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.” Today, the power, presence, and love of Christ are yours. How much do you treasure it?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, how much I treasure You. Consume my heart. I want to know You and experience Your resurrection power.
AMEN

Confess

TODAY’S VERSE
Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
Psalms 32:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How clear is your conscience? How heavy is your heart with unconfessed sin? David knew how important it was to keep his conscience clear with the Lord. He wrote, “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.” Two things need to happen to get out of this dilemma. The first is to repent. That simply means to agree with God. Our behavior and attitude were wrong, an offense to God. It was a sin. The second is to tell God about it and seek His forgiveness. This is confession. The great news is God is waiting with His unconditional love and forgiveness. David knew the joy of forgiveness. He wrote about the freedom he experienced. He said, “Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” Today examine your heart. Confess any sin to God and be forgiven and free.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me search my heart. Help me acknowledge any sin that has offended you. I desire Your forgiveness and a clear conscience. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

How Should I Live?

TODAY’S VERSE
I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.
Colossians 2:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How should you live? Paul knew. He said that the Colossian church was living right due to their strong faith. He wrote, “Just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.” You accepted Christ as your Savior and Lord by faith, and so you should live each day trusting Him and living by faith. But how do you grow your faith into a strong one? Paul answers by writing, “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” You will grow in your faith as you allow yourself to know Christ. As you build your life on Him and His word, as you focus on the truth of His love for you, your faith will grow. If you do this, then it can be said of you, “I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me grow deep in my knowledge of You. Help me build my life on You and Your Word so that my faith will be strong. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Deeply Saddened

TODAY’S VERSE
He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts.
Mark 3:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Anger is a secondary emotion and often hides what is really bothering us. In today’s verse, we see that Jesus was angry at the Pharisees because they were more concerned about their laws than God’s love and mercy. Instead of rejoicing in a visitation from God, they wanted to stop Jesus from healing a man’s hand because they considered it was working on the Sabbath. Upon a second look, we see that behind His anger, Jesus was deeply saddened by their hard hearts. So many would try to motivate us into righteous behavior because of the anger of God, but in truth, our disobedience saddens Him. Instead of anger, how many nights did the father of the Prodigal Son cry when he saw his son’s empty bed? It grieves my heart to think that I have caused the Lord, who loves me so much, to be deeply saddened. Forgive me, Lord. Help me live for you and bring you joy instead. Today consider God’s love for you; such a deep love that it saddens Him when you stray. Let that kind of love motivate you to live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for grieving Your heart. I have been so selfish and ungrateful. Help me consider your deep love for me so it will motivate me to glorify You with the way I live.
AMEN

You Were Made For Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy.
Psalms 43:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were made for joy. That is because God created us to fellowship with Him, and it is in this relationship we find real lasting joy. The deep realization of how much He loves us and delights in us causes us to spend time with Him. Like David, we will run to the altar, not an altar of brick and mortar but the altar of our heart. In this “remaining in His love”, we have a joyful fellowship with God. Jesus said it this way, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” The secret is remaining in His love. So today, come to the altar of God, come in joyful anticipation. Come with the full realization that He loves you like the most loving Father in the universe would love their child. Rejoice, be glad, remain in His love, and let your joy in Him overflow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear loving Father, how I thank You for Your deep love for me. I come today to Your altar to worship and spend time with You. Today, help me remain in full awareness of Your love, so that my joy will be full.
AMEN

Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Colossians 4:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to over-emphasize the importance of prayer. That is why Paul models for the Colossians a deep, sincere, focused prayer life. He writes, “We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Prayer is essential to our Christian experience, so Paul insists that we devote ourselves to prayer. Devotion is a serious commitment, but like Jesus, Paul was not talking about a vain repetition of prayers or an insincere ritualistic routine. No, he asked that we be earnest with a Holy intent and focus. And then, he adds that we need to pray with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the relational part of our prayers. To be thankful to God means that we genuinely acknowledge who He is and what He has done. Thankfulness kindles love in our hearts for God and allow us to receive the same from Him. So today, devote yourself to pray with a thankful heart, keeping alert and earnest in your conversation with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I need to pray. Forgive me for my lack of focus and thanksgiving. Help me as I devote myself to prayer, stay alert and thankful, and develop a deep relationship with You.
AMEN

Be An Example

TODAY’S VERSE
Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
I Timothy 4:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul originally wrote this to Timothy, telling him not to let anyone despise him because he was young. Paul encouraged Timothy to be an example of how a believer should live. I started full-time in the ministry when I was twenty and remember how relevant this passage was to me. I wanted to be diligent and conscientious about the way I lived. But when does it stop? Each decade is a transition with a new set of issues and problems. Shouldn’t an older, more mature believer be an example to the younger? Shouldn’t someone in midlife be an example of a mature believer to those who are elders? No matter what age, we all should be an example of what it means to follow Christ. Today may your Christian maturity be evident in what you say, the way you live, and your love, faith, and purity.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, help me be an example to those around me of how a Christian lives. Today help me live the way You want me to, with my love, faith, and purity.
AMEN
