Search My Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalms 139:23-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to give in to sinful behavior. You know the kind that you participate in and later think, “What was I doing?” Hopefully, God will convict us, and we can repent of it lest it becomes a sinful habit. But what about the behavior we don’t even pay attention to? Lust, greed, jealously, anger, slander, lying are just a few examples. Sadly we can go through a whole day and not even think anything about it. We turn a deaf ear to any conscience. We don’t notice a twinge in our heart saying, “This is wrong.” This is when we need the Lord’s help the most. David knew this, so he invited the Lord to do an inventory of his heart. He prays and asks the Lord to search his heart and point out everything that offends Him. Why? So he could clear his conscience and get back on God’s path of everlasting life. What about you? When was the last time you asked the Lord to take an inventory of your heart? Today, come to God and pray what David prayed. The good news is that this same David also wrote about God, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, search me, O God, and know my heart. Point out anything in me that offends you, Lord, and help me repent. Forgive me, I pray. In Jesus’ name and because of His sacrifice.
AMEN

Our Father

TODAY’S VERSE
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.
Psalm 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus, told us to pray to God, saying, “Our Father.” And then He told us to ask our Heavenly Father to do His will on earth, as it is in heaven. There is peace in knowing a loving Father, a mighty Father, and an all-wise Father. David knew God in that way, and even during troubled times, he could commit himself to God’s loving arms when he was about to sleep. His Father would keep him safe. Paul confirmed this when he wrote, “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’” We can come to God and call Him our loving Father, Daddy, or Papa. It is through this re-fathering that we will know lasting peace. Isaiah assured us of this when he wrote, to God His Father, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Today, come to your Heavenly Father. Trust Him, and He will give you peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to know You in this deep paternal sense. Re-father me, I pray. Help me to grow into the child You have created me to be.
AMEN

Maturity Is A Journey

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. – Romans 8:12-13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Maturity is a journey. When we think we have matured in one area, we move to another challenge in life that stretches us more. We are in the process of becoming more and more like Jesus. Maturity can be difficult, but we don’t give up! The good news is that Paul tells us that we do not have an obligation to do what our sinful nature urges us to do. Now, it doesn’t always feel that way. Cravings, temptations, habits run deep. But today we have a choice! We have a choice to say, “No.” We have the choice to “stop.” We have a choice not to be dominated by our sinful nature. Paul wrote, “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” So today, repent; say no; stop! You have a choice. Ask the Spirit of God to direct your mind and behavior.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Father. I struggle with maturity. I need Your help. I need the power of Your Holy Spirit to put to death my sinful nature. I come and ask You to forgive me, fill me, and empower me. In the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Bring Your Concerns To God

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.
Psalms 5:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a wonderful relationship God is offering us. David knew about it. He writes, “Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” He brought God His groaning, his deepest concerns, the cries from the bottom of his heart. Paul picks up on this same theme and writes, “The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Today, bring your concerns to God. Pray and share your heart with Him. He knows you. He loves you. He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love and concern for me. Thank You for hearing my prayers and helping me with all my needs. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Cleansed

TODAY’S VERSE
But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
I Corinthians 6:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We make mistakes. We stray from the path. We find ourself in an ungodly state of mind. What do we do? We come to Jesus. We confess our sins. We repent and ask for His forgiveness. When we do, He cleanses us. The Apostle John writes, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” King David had committed heinous sins, and when confronted by God through Nathan the Prophet, David repented. He later wrote, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” Today, what is it that you need to be cleansed? Know that God will take care of it if you ask Him to. Just call upon the name of Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I need You to come and cleanse me. Help me start fresh today. I want to fully know Your forgiveness, mercy, and grace. I ask this in the precious name of Jesus.
AMEN

Way Of Life

TODAY’S VERSE
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.
Psalms 16:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What would you give to know the way of life? Imagine the joy, the excitement, the satisfaction from learning, “This is the way, walk in it!” That is exactly what God will do for you. He wants to show you the way. He wants His presence to be your assurance, your North Star, your compass, so at the end of the day, you too can say, “It was a pleasure living for God.” Today ask. Ask God to show you the way of life. Ask Him to grant you the joy of knowing and living in the awareness of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, show me the way of life. Grant me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.
AMEN

Enter In

TODAY’S VERSE
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.
Psalms 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who could ever earn God’s love? We would like to think we could. We have some sort of built-in “goodness” scale that records good and bad behavior, and somehow we think we are way ahead. But seriously, a finite person able to stand in the presence of a Holy infinite God? It is something only God could do. It would have to be His deliberate choice to make a way we could be in fellowship with Him. And that is what He did. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we are saved and are in fellowship with Him. The Apostle Paul wrote it this way, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” So today, because of His unfailing love, enter into His presence and worship Him with the deepest awe.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God. Thank You for providing a way that I can enter Your presence as Your child and worship and love You.
AMEN

What Is A Christian?

TODAY’S VERSE
But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
I Corinthians 6:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You call yourself a Christian but do you really understand what that makes you? It is more than being a church member. It is more than knowing some Bible Stories. It is more than having a moral lifestyle. Being a Christian means, you are a child of God. Today’s verse says that you were cleansed from your past when you became a Christian and received Him as your savior. You were made holy in God’s sight. All your sins were forgiven, and you were made right with God. Today revel in the reality of your new life in Christ. Your past doesn’t define you. Christ has! You are a child of God and deeply loved, cleansed, forgiven, and set apart for His service.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for cleansing me, making me holy, and making me right with You. I am Your child and deeply loved by You.
AMEN

Be On Guard

TODAY’S VERSE
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
I Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We each have our battles. Life can be hard. Struggles can cause our faith to falter, and we begin to live as those who have no hope at all. Paul knew what it was like to have troubles; he knew hardship and heartbreak. And so, when he was finishing writing his letter to the church in Corinth, he gave them one final admonition. Like a coach before the final play of the game, Paul rallies the church and tells them to be on their guard. He wanted them to watch out for the spiritual battle. He told them to stand firm in their faith, being courageous and strong. The good news is they did not have to do this on their own. This same Paul reminds us in another letter he wrote that we can do all things through Christ who empowers us. Today, call out to God for His power, and then be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith. Be courageous today and stay strong.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, You have said that I can do all things through You because You will empower me. Help me today to be on my guard against evil and temptation. Allow me to stand firm in my faith. Encourage me to be courageous in my behavior and to be strong in Your power.
AMEN

You Still Belong To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.
Psalms 73: 21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever stopped to think about what our behavior seems like to God? The Psalmist did. He caught himself in a spiritually unhealthy place and saw a glimpse of what God must see. He writes, “I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.” What repentance. Oh, that I would be that sensitive. However, what really thrills me is the next part the author writes. It stands alone as today’s devotional. Read it and rejoice in the love God has for you. The Psalmist writes, “Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Today repent of any bad attitude toward life and God and know you still belong to Him!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray with the Psalmist, “Lord, I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but You Dear God remain the strength of my heart; You are mine forever.”
AMEN
