Lord, Bend Down And Hear Me

TODAY’S VERSE
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Psalms 86:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The scriptures are full of comfort. How often do I come to God with great need and don’t know where to turn. David was the same way. In just a few verses in today’s text, he makes his plea before God. He starts out writing, “Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help.” How incredible, the Lord so tenderly bends down to hear him. So, David cries out to God to protect him, be merciful to him, and give him happiness. Those are solemn requests from a heart that is in desperate need. Why does he turn to God? Why in all his despair does he feel God could or would even help him? Because he knows this about God, God is good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love to all who ask for His help. What do you believe today? What is your God like? Today come to the God of David, let Him bend down to you and hear your prayer and answer your need for help.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need You.
In Jesus name.
AMEN

How Do You Fight Your Battles?

TODAY’S VERSE
When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. “Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”
II Kings 6:15-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you fight your battles? Here we see a situation that Elisha finds himself in. The King of Aram was trying to defeat the Israelites, but God would share it with Elisha every time they had a plan, who would then tell the King of Israel. The King of Aram was sure that he has a traitor in his court, but everyone insisted that it was the Prophet, Elisha. So, the King, in his anger, sent his troops to seize Elisha. Elisha’s servant got up in the morning and had a rude awakening when he went outside. Troops, horses and chariots surrounded them. Now Elisha was already aware of his plight. Did he get his sword? Did he get the Armies? No, he had a different plan. He gave the battle to God and leaned upon him. You see, Elisha saw what the real reality was. God had already revealed to Elisha what he prayed for his servant. Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. God was in Elisha’s battle plans. He asked God to intervene and deliver him, and that is what God did. We need to bring our battles to God. Yes, a mighty army may come against us, but the real truth is that the Army of God surrounds us. Today, might we rise in faith and cry out, “The Battle is the Lords!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, open my eyes that I can see you in all my battles. You are there. You surround me with Your love and might. Help me trust in you.
AMEN

True Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.
James 2:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to say we have faith in God. The test, however is whether our faith is affecting our everyday living? Although the dictionary and most people treat faith as a noun, James is suggesting that faith is a verb. Faith without action, he says, is dead. The faith that James is writing about isn’t something we “have” but something we “live.” Faith that we have displays itself every once in a while, especially if something troubling happens. But the faith James is writing about is an everyday realization that God is with us and living for Him. It affects our actions. James asks a great question. If your life isn’t being lived out for Jesus in the way you love others, then is it really faith? Today, let’s not “have” faith. Let’s “live” it. May your faith bless all those around you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for my dead faith. Help me believe in you and live my life with a faith that is vibrant and blessing all those around me.
AMEN

Renewed

TODAY’S VERSE
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.
II Corinthians 4:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
For much of life, God has ordained two processes. Renewal and maturity. We were not meant to stay static. As His followers, we were intended to grow and mature. But this maturity does not come easy. It comes from a daily relationship with Jesus. We mature as we go to Him each day and learn emotionally, spiritually, and experientially. This is a renewing process. Whether our day is exhilarating, full of joy and wonder, or we go through pain, disappointment, and sorrow, God is there. Whether good or bad, we never stop living for Him. As we do, He promises to renew our spirit day by day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Christ, I want to be like You. Help me mature. Help me this day be renewed in my mind, spirit, and heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Living In A New Sphere

TODAY’S VERSE
You must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter is saying that we need to grow “in” grace. The normal use of the word “in” meant walking through a door. You go into another room. You come, and you go. But Peter is suggesting much more!!! Peter writes that we are to grow in Grace. He uses the other word for “in.” A word that means moving and living in a whole new sphere of reality. Peter says that as a Christian, even though we are on earth, we live in another sphere or reality of God’s grace and knowledge. Grace is God’s favor, affection, mercy, and thoughts toward you. Knowledge is “experientially knowing” something. It is a working knowledge gleaned from personal experience! Today, stop and realize where you live. You live in a spiritual sphere where you grow in and have first-hand knowledge of God’s favor, affection, and mercy. Welcome to this new world!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for inviting me to live in this new sphere of grace and knowledge. Help me enter into it fully and grow and mature in this atmosphere of Your favor, affection, and mercy.
Amen

Lead Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
Psalms 25:4-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to lose our way. If not lost, then we just aren’t sure which way to go. Direction is so essential. I think I can make it down most paths if I was sure it was the one God wanted me to take. There is an assurance when you know He is directing you. There is peace when you know that He knows exactly where you are and what lies ahead. There is hope in the midst of each step when you know that God has said, “This is the way; walk in it.” So today, pray with the Psalmist. Cry out to God and say, “ Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All-day long, I put my hope in you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, please show me the right path to go on. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for I put my hope in you.
AMEN

Thoughts

TODAY’S VERSE
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.’ Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What thoughts do you fix your mind on? It is so easy to believe negative things. We have a negative bias. Negative thoughts give way to more negative thoughts. Paul knows how to put a stop to it. Think about it. He was beaten, shipwrecked, stoned, put in prison. If anyone could have had an excuse to feel negative, it would have been him. Instead, he tells us to think about things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise! What a litmus test. Today, check your own thoughts. See if they pass the test. If not, stop! You can’t help what thoughts come into your mind, but you can do something about them once they are there. May God help us think on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me renew my thinking. I need your help so I can focus my thoughts on that which is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise!
AMEN

Lord Of Your Life

TODAY’S VERSE
You must worship Christ as Lord of your life.
I Peter 3:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We talk so much of Christ as our Savior. And certainly, He is. He came to seek and to save those of us who were lost. His purpose was to be a sacrifice for our sins. But we must remember that before He was our Savior, He was and always will be God. The Alpha and Omega, Lord of Lord, King of Kings. We give Him praise as our Savior, but Peter says, “We worship Christ as our Lord.” Has there been a time in your life when you have made that distinction? Has there been a moment when you realized that more than your Savior that Christ was asking for your allegiance as Lord of your life? It begins as recognition and then becomes a commitment. Today, settle it with God. Submit to Christ everything that you are and have. Make Him the Lord of your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus. Thank You for being my Savior. I acknowledge that You came to earth as God in the flesh and now are ruler over all things. Therefore I surrender myself to You and ask You to be the Lord of my life. Guide my life, lead me in the way I should go. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Come And See

TODAY’S VERSE
“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
John 1:46 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Philip was excited about meeting Jesus, so he finds Nathanael and says, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael then said, “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” I love Philip’s answer. He says, “Come and see.” I find it very comforting that Jesus was born in a stable with animals around. That he came from a working family, raised in Nazareth, and yet none of this changed who He truly was. He knew who He was, so his past, environment, parentage, earthy status, rejection, nothing distracted Him from His mission. What about you? Is there something in your past, heritage, upbringing, status, or way others treated you hindering you from believing who you are? If you know Jesus as your Savior, then you are a child of God. Believe it, receive it, and don’t let anything, nothing rob you of your significance or mission for God on this earth. Know who You are. You are a royal child and servant of God. Don’t hold back. Go and invite others to, “come and see!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You that You have made me Your child. Thank You that it is not based on status or merit or my earning it. Instead it is Your grace and mercy that have made me Your own. Help me to believe and receive Your great love for me so I can live out the mission You have for me. In Jesus’ name.
Amen

Hang On

TODAY’S VERSE
The testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:3-4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we can’t, God can. This is the mystery. There is something about God’s timing. Just when you think you can’t make it one more step, He gives you the strength. Just when you can’t understand, He gives wisdom. How? James tells us how. He finishes today’s verse by writing, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” God gives the wisdom we need. He provides the strength. He gives the ability to hang on. And as a result, our perseverance finishes its work, helping us mature in Christ. That is why Paul could share his testimony, writing, “When I am weak, then I am strong.” Today, might the same be true for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to persevere. Help me hang on. Give me the wisdom I need so even in my weakness; I can be strong in You. Thank You, Father.
AMEN
