Wait On The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Psalms 27:14 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to delay gratification. We want what we want when we want it. We have yearned so long. So, what do we do when it seems that God is silent and we can’t wait? David knew. He wrote, “Be strong and take heart.” Take heart is to be courageous emotionally and mentally. David is calling on us to be strong and brave and use all the patience and strength we have to persevere. Then he calls upon us to “take heart.” When everything in us is screaming for action, crying for resolution, and we have the accelerator pushed to the floor, we need to stop, take a deep breath and calm ourselves. We need to refocus on what is true and reconnect with God. It is in that moment, we take heart and allow God to help us regulate our emotions back to peace and joy. Today we have choices. He is here! Choose to be strong, wait for the Lord; and take heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that You know my situation. You know my needs. Help me gain strength from this and to take heart. Teach me to wait on You and trust You to provide for me in ways that only You can. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

A Holy Place

TODAY’S VERSE
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.
Hebrews 10:19-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a Holy Place. Far beyond the vastness of the universe, before eternity ever started, beyond any form of comprehension, there is God. And this God allows all that He is to become exposed to all that we are. We, with our humanness, our finite, fickle, sinful selves, are allowed to enter the Holy Place through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How marvelous, how wonderful, how unbelievable that we can “go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him.” Today, enter the Holy Place and commune with the Holy God, fully trusting that He has bid you come.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Father, who am I that You would allow me to enter into Your Holy Place? Thanks be to You and Your Son Jesus Christ who died in my place that I might be made holy in Your sight. Thank You for bidding me come and fellowship with You. I come, Dear Father, fully trusting in Your love and forgiveness.
AMEN

I Am Trusting God

TODAY’S VERSE
But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands.
Psalms 31:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when we just have to trust God. Not with blind faith, but confidence built on a solid foundation, a faith with roots going down deep into our being. A place where our primal fears and apprehension collide with our seemingly logic and assumptions. When everything in us says, “Run, hide, quit, fight or give in,” God shows up, and we have to choose. David had to make a choice, and he chose God. He may have been afraid, but he said, “I am trusting.” He may have had advice that was contrary, but he said, “I am trusting.” His back was against the wall, and all human hope exhausted, yet he said, “But I am trusting!” Today, let go. Hear God’s voice, sense His amazing love and power for you and say with David, “But I am trusting you, O LORD – You are my God! My future is in your hands.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to trust in You. I know I should, but I am so weak in my faith. Holy Spirit, comfort me, encourage my heart, blow gently on any small amber of faith You find and fan it into a flame. Ignite my heart so I can trust You more. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wait On God

TODAY’S VERSE
So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.
Isaiah 30:15—18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Lord longs to be gracious to us. We see it in today’s passage. By His own choice, God created us, knowing that in our humanness, we would be obstinate, fickle, and slow in responding to His love. He knew, and yet He put himself in a place of waiting for us to come to Him so He can show us His great love and compassion. Why does He do this? Why does He wait for us to respond to Him? Because He is faithful to us. His love is not like ours. His love is eternal, unfathomable, unconditional, and unfailing. So, He waits. And what is so ironic is that He waits for us to wait on Him. When we have tried everything else, when we have panicked, obsessed, returned from running away, quit our procrastination, stopped trying to do everything by ourselves, He bids us come to Him and wait for Him to love and meet our deepest needs. Today, quit hurrying and scurrying and come to Him. He is waiting for you to wait on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I admit that I worry and run around trying to fix things by myself. Forgive me for not trusting You. Today I come and pour my worries at Your feet. Guide me, help me, bless me, I pray as I wait on You for all my needs.
AMEN

God’s Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
You hide them in the shelter of your presence.
Psalms 31:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to fathom how magnificent God is. He is so great that when Elijah was at a mountain speaking to God, all God had to do was pass by, and there were a great wind, earthquake, and fire. Moses knew God perhaps more than any living man, so when he was ready to take the people into the wilderness, He begged God to be present with them. As an assurance, Moses asked God to show him His presence. God replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you.- But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” As well, David, a man whom the Bible says “was a man after God’s own heart,” comes to God amid all his trouble and says, “How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. You hide them in the shelter of your presence.” God’s presence, how mighty, how breathtaking, how personal, and how available. Come to God today. Join Elijah, Moses, and David and enjoy the shelter of God’s presence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, how I thank You for the death of Your Son, Jesus, so I can come boldly into Your presence and find all the love, peace, and joy I will ever need. Let me sense Your presence in my life today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forgiveness

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
I John 1:8-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes it is so hard to deal with our inconsistencies. You know those times we stumble, do the things we shouldn’t, and then kick ourselves. Thank God there is a better way to handle our “wrongdoing.” The secret is to stop when we have a moment of sanity. When the Holy Spirit convicts us, we need to confess to God and acknowledge our wrongdoing. “Father, I was wrong, forgive me!” Next, we need to repent, that is, to make up our mind that with God’s grace we will stop. Finally, we need to renew our commitment and make steps toward correcting our behavior. Jude says that we can put our confidence in God’s help. He writes, “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” Yes, we have sinned, but God has forgiven and cleansed us from all wrongdoing. Today, accept God’s grace and forgiveness and live in victory and freedom.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for those sins that so easily trip me up. I confess my wrongdoing. Help me, Lord. Keep me from falling. Cleanse my heart as I renew my commitment to You.
AMEN

Come Back To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Going down a highway, a person saw a sign that said, “Do you feel far away from God?” He was thinking about the question when the next billboard read, “Who moved?” Isn’t that usually the case? When we feel far from God, it’s not that God has moved, but rather it is because we have turned our back on Him. James knew that we have this propensity, so he wrote, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” But how do we come close to God? The first thing we need to do is go in another direction. If we moved away from God, we need to turn back and “draw near” to Him. Next, we have to confess and repent of those things that took us away in the first place. The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.” Confessing to God and repenting from any wrongdoing will allow us to have a clear conscience and reopen the door of fellowship with Him. Finally, we turn to God with all our heart and mind. We come to Him in quietness, reflection, meditation, and prayer. We open our emotions and thoughts to Him and allow His Holy Spirit to commune with us, guiding, convicting, teaching, and directing our life. God desires to have a relationship with us. He hasn’t moved. Will you come to Him today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I must confess that there are so many times I feel so distant from You. I admit to my wandering. Forgive me for the sin that has separated us and help me stay in close fellowship with you. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit, I pray.
AMEN

Slave To My Beliefs

TODAY’S VERSE
For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
II Peter 2:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We like to think that we are so independent. What could ever have control over us? But it is not usually one significant controlling factor we need to worry about. Rarely would just one influence control our whole life. No, the author of Proverbs said it wisely, “It is the little foxes that spoil the vine.” It is the many controlling issues that either set us free or enslave us. Beliefs are that way. It is not one large belief that controls our life. It is a whole series of beliefs that shape who we are. What we believe affects our desires, emotions, aspirations, faith, hopes, predictions, limitations, and behavior. Beliefs can enslave us, or they can set us free. Jesus came to help shape our ideas. Beliefs about life and beliefs about ourselves. So, what do you believe? What limiting thoughts do you have? When you think of yourself, what do you accept as true? When you think of opportunity, what thoughts hold you back? Beliefs can control the way you live. Paul wrote, “We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.” Today, if you are going to be a slave, be a slave of Christ. Bring your thoughts and beliefs to Christ and let Him shape them, hone them and when necessary, change them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I confess that so many of my beliefs are negative, painful, limiting, carnal, angry, lustful, and ungodly. I need Your forgiveness and Your help. Holy Spirit, purify my mind. Sanctify my thoughts and help me bring everyone into captivity and under Your influence. Today I give You my mind. Influence my beliefs, I pray.
AMEN

Gently Restore

TODAY’S VERSE
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many sins that you can fall into. Many habits, addictions, and sins are hard to break. That is why we need each other. There is so much talk about accountability. But you need something more than a watchdog. You need someone who knows your struggles and loves you, even when you fall. Someone who is there for you without judgment. They understand about “slips” and are there to lift you back up. Their goal is to restore, not scold or shun. God has called you to do the same. He has asked that you “restore” someone gently, not reprimand or ostracize them. Today, follow Christ and help carry someone else’s burden.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for judging others. Instead, help me gently restore those in need and bear their burdens. Help me to remember my own sins and how You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Slipping

TODAY’S VERSE
I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported and cheer.
Psalms 94:18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the “do-over.” Optimism comes from the ability to “bounce back’, to be resilient, and our God is the God of resilience. The author cried out that he was slipping. Have you ever felt that way? It’s like you are trying to climb out of a well, but the sides are slippery, and you keep sliding back down. The result of the authors slipping was a mind full of doubt. But even in his doubt, God was there. God’s unfailing love was able to support him. The comfort that came from God gave him renewed hope and cheer. God can do the same with you. Today, bring God your doubts. Bring Him your slippery situation. Let His love support you; let His comfort give you renewed hope and cheer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I am slipping. Help me today. May Your love support me. May Your comfort renew my hope. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
