Temptation

TODAY’S VERSE
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!
Matthew 26:41 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If ever we needed Jesus’ admonition, we need it today. Television, internet, media – all around us are temptations ready to take us out spiritually. Peter said it this way, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” So what do we do? Jesus said that we must live “in” the world, but we are not to be “of” the world. That is why He told us to watch and pray; He didn’t want us to fall into temptations. When Jesus said, “watch and pray,” He wasn’t suggesting a casual Christianity. He was biding us to follow Him in a life of vigilant spiritual discipline involving devotion, prayer, and consecration. Today, keep alert toward the many temptations surrounding you. Keep your eyes and heart on Jesus. Pray, spend time with God, and confess your sin when needed. Praise God; He is faithful, He is forgiving. He will give you all you need to live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how I want to live for You, but I can’t do it by myself. Because of the precious blood of You son, my Lord Jesus, forgive me, cleanse me, and empower me to live for You.
AMEN

Your Heavenly Father

TODAY’S VERSE
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:15-16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we became a Christian, we were born-again. We received the Holy Spirit, becoming a child of God with the right to call God our Father. I don’t know which is more exciting, the fact that I am a child of God or that I have a Heavenly Father that loves me. The beautiful fact is that both are true. Do you believe this? Do you truly understand that God is your father? Do you fully comprehend that you are a child of God that is loved and cherished? If it hasn’t already, this truth can change your life. Why not let it? Today, breathe in the fact that you are a beloved child of God. Not just the Holy Almighty God, but your Heavenly Father. Know Him, love Him, talk to Him. The Spirit will testify to you, that indeed you are His child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh my loving Father, thank You for making me Your child. Help me to know You, love You and live for You. I need You to guide my life.
AMEN

Living For Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
II Peter 1:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter shared how we are to live. He writes, “Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness.” This is living out our faith. This is experiencing Christ and allowing Him to live through us. He says it this way, “The more you grow in these qualities, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of Christ.” Your experiential knowledge of God will help you live for Him better. That’s because as you get to know Him, your personality, behavior, and desires will be more like His. His power, knowledge, and, most of all, His love will be exhibited in your life. Today, choose to know Him more so you can live for Him better.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me be more productive and useful in my knowledge of You and live the kind of life You want me to. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Divine Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant-I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.
Psalms 73:21-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Lies, false assumptions and unfounded predictions can drive us to despair. The fear, anger, and sorrow they bring cause us to do questionable things. In today’s verse, the Psalmist was torn up inside. What he believed made him bitter, foolish, and even ignorant to God. However, when He came to his senses, he saw how bad he was before God and repented. Have you been there? You know, those times when you think God should have given up on you? But please, let it sink in, God doesn’t give up! The wonderful truth is that God forgave the Psalmist. God comforted, counseled, and continued to guide him. The love he experienced from God caused him to write one of the most beautiful verses ever written about God. “Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” Today, might this same reality sink deep into your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, my heart cries, “Hallelujah, what a Savior!” I know I don’t always live the way I should. I know many days my attitude is all wrong. But today, I know You forgive me. I know that You will never abandon me. I know that You are committed to my maturity. Help me remember this as I live out this day.
AMEN

Desire

TODAY’S VERSE
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. – They shouted out their oath of loyalty to the LORD with trumpets blaring and rams’ horns sounding. All in Judah were happy about this covenant, for they had entered into it with all their heart. They earnestly sought after God, and they found him.
2 Chronicles 15:12, 14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Desire is a critical factor in our walk with God. In today’s passage, we see how excited the Hebrews were about living for God. They entered into a covenant to know God with all their heart and soul. That is how God wants us to desire Him. He wants us to long for His fellowship. He wants us to desire Him above everything else. And the exciting fact is that it is God himself that helps us with our desires. In “Desiring God’s Will,” David Brenner writes, “Hunger for God will not go unanswered, because it is a gift from God. Our longing is already an answer from our heart as it is stirred by God’s Spirit. No one who seeks God fails to find God, because she or he is already found by God. In seeking we are found. In longing we express God’s desire, God’s longing evoking our own.” John wrote, “We love him, because he first loved us.” How marvelous, how mysterious. We desire God because He desires us. Today, joyfully set your heart toward Him. Desire His fellowship, desire His love, desire His Lordship.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I desire to seek You with all my heart. I desire to know You, to love You and to live for You. Help me to this end I pray.
AMEN

Transform Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we become Christian, God begins a transformation in our life. His goal is to transform us into all He created us to be. He does this by renewing our minds. This is more than changing the way we think. It is also changing the way we feel. It includes those sensations that send us into mood swings or addictive behavior. God wants to change our negative beliefs and restructure our irrational thoughts. But how? How can God do this? He does this through His Holy Spirit. As we study His word, spend time in prayer listening to God, He will renew our mind. As we also spend time in fellowship with other believers and seek the counsel of other Godly men and women, He will transform us. It is through this continuous process that we mature into the person He wants us to be. Today, give yourself to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Submit yourself to the process of change and let Him transform you through the renewing of your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your help in making me into the person You want me to be. Come Holy Spirit; I give You my mind, my emotions, and my will. Guide me, lead me and transform me I pray.
AMEN

It’s Your Choice

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering His glorious miracles and obeying His commands. Then they will not be like their ancestors-stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.
Psalms 78:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have choices. In today’s verse, the new generation had to choose whether they were going to be rebellious, unfaithful, and stubborn toward God as their ancestors or be different. Thankfully, they appreciated God’s goodness and decided to follow Him. It started with a choice, a choice to break from their ancestral influence and follow God. What’s your choice? Are you going to be stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful to God like the ancestors? Or are you going to remember His glorious miracles, love, and grace and live for God? Perhaps you are not sure and don’t want to choose. However, not choosing is a choice not to live for Him. The good news is that it’s not too late; a new pathway is only a choice away- Today, choose to follow God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the freedom to choose. Thank You that by Your grace, it is never too late to follow You. That is what I want; I want to follow You. Help me to that end.
AMEN

Revive Your Heart

Revive Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts. Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored!
Mark 3:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It must have been something horrible to cause God to be angry and sad at the same time. God had a divine plan, a holy purpose. He would send Himself, in the person of His Son Jesus, to earth and redeem man, bringing them into a loving relationship with Himself. Ironically, it was mankind that got in the way. Jesus was bringing the good news to man and confirming it with “signs and wonders” all the while the religious zealots were opposing Him at every turn. Isn’t that like us? Those of us who know so much about God end up knowing so little. And so Jesus found Himself angry and deeply saddened. Why? Because their hearts were hard. The metaphor is poignant. A heart that is hard like a stone has no life in it. It is not able to fulfill the purpose for which it was created. You can lose a leg, an arm, an eye, and still live a meaningful life, but without a heart, there is no life. So what do you have? Is your heart pumping faith, hope, love, and grace into every fiber of your being, or has the beating stopped? Today, come to our Holy Heart Surgeon. Let Him revive your heart and restore you to the life you were meant to have.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, take my heart and mold it into a heart that is used for you. Keep me alive in my faith, hope, and love. Might You be praised and glorified in all I do and say.
AMEN

Abundant Life

TODAY’S VERSE
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.`’

Psalms 16:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you look at your relationship with God? Is it drudgery? Is your Christian experience legalistic, nothing more than an empty ritual? Perhaps your spiritual life is haphazard at best, a hit or miss with your devotional life. It begs the questions, “What are you looking for?” What are you expecting from God? David said that we could expect God to show us the way of life! Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.” When we come to God thirsting for real life, when we seek Him with all our heart, David said that He would show us the way and grant us the joy of His presence and the true pleasures of living with Him forever! We were made for fellowship with God, and nothing else will satisfy that longing in our heart. Today commit your life to Him. Let Him show you the way of life, granting you the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You know me and have everything I need to live a happy and fulfilled life. Please show me the way of life and grant me the joy that comes from being in Your presence.
AMEN

A New Person

TODAY’S VERSE
Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
II Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are a new person in Christ. But how much do we really know about this “new person” that we have become? The authors of “Truefaced” make this point, “If we do not start with ‘trusting who God says we are,’ we will end up trusting in our own resources to try to please God.” The fact is, in Christ, we are sons and daughters of God. We are joint-heirs with Christ. We are a temple of His Holy Spirit. We are a “saint” and created by God to do His good works. We are a disciple of Jesus Christ and a citizen of heaven seated with Christ in heavenly places. We have been chosen by God to be part of His chosen race, a royal priesthood, a people of God. In Christ, we are Holy and dearly loved, free from condemnation for the things we have done. We are unconditionally loved and have been completely forgiven and made righteous. We have been established, anointed, and sealed by God in Christ. Today, make these truths more than words. Let them sink deep into your heart. Believe that you are a new person in Christ, the old life is gone, and a new life has begun.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for making me a new person in You. Help me know what this means and to live it out in my everyday life.
AMEN
