My Heart His Home

TODAY’S VERSE
“How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.”
Psalm 84:1-2 (NIV)

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?”
I Corinthians 6:19 (NLT))

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God never intended to confine Himself to a temple made by human hands. He had a better plan. He created man as a vessel for His very presence by placing a vacuum into the human heart that could only be filled with His presence. The Psalmist illustrates this when he writes, “My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.” Paul makes it crystal clear when he shares, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?” What a wondrous concept. So when we read, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD,” we can literally superimpose that image to our very body. His dwelling place, the very courts of the Lord, has found their new home, through the presence of the Holy Spirit, within our own body. Today you don’t have to go anywhere special to worship God. You don’t have to make a pilgrimage or look for lofty cathedrals. His presence abides in you. He who you come to worship is alive in your heart. Bow before Him, enter the gates of your heart with thanksgiving and worship Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating Your new temple within my own body. I bow before You as my Lord and Savior. My soul yearns, even faints for Your presence. Fill me, make me conscience of Your presence, so I can worship You today in Spirit and truth. In Jesus’ Name.

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.” (NLT)
Psalms 89:15
“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!’ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’ The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.” (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were created to worship God. It is our highest calling, our number one occupation. Everything else emanates from there. Want to be a better parent? Worship God. Want to love your spouse with your whole heart? Worship God. When we truly worship God in Spirit and truth, everything else falls in line. There is something about coming before an Almighty God, having our sins forgiven–knowing that we don’t deserve His love but that He loves us unconditionally, that humbles us, makes us appreciate life and all that He gives us. Worshipping Him, because He is and is all loving, kind, powerful, majestic and Holy, lifts us out of ourselves and all our preoccupation with this life and renews our spirit, resets our vision and encourages our heart. Today, spend time before God in worship. Stop your busyness for a moment, fall, in your mind’s eye, on your knees before Him and worship Him, love Him and adore Him. When you do, you will sense your true self and the relationship with God that your heart is searching for.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You today in Spirit and in truth to worship You. I join the myriads of angels at Your throne and cry out “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty. You, who died for me, are worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! I worship You, in the matchless name of Jesus.

Remember His Power

TODAY’S VERSE
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:31-33

“They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them.– They did not remember his power.”
Psalms 78:11, 42

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is worry other than forgetting the power and promise of God? The legacy that the Jews, who fled from Egypt, left for their children is that they forgot about the power of God. All the miracles, all the provisions and yet they were guilty of murmuring, complaining and idolatry. They lived as if God did not exist. Jesus came many centuries later and still found the same lack of faith. He was born amongst a people who did not know the all powerful God. So He showed them. He taught them not to worry about their needs because God would provide for them. He taught them to seek Him first and everything they needed would follow. Jesus lived among them for three and a half years. They saw the miracles, they heard His message, they experienced His power and yet many of them still not believe. They saw the miracles but like the Jews in the wilderness, “They forgot what he had done, the wonders he had shown them. They did not remember his power.” What about you? When situations come today that force you to take pause, will you fear or have faith? Will you remember all that He has done or will you worry in unbelief? Today remember that the God of all power and provision is the same yesterday, today and will be tomorrow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank You that You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. I thank You that Your power continues today as it has in the past. I know that You are able to provide, protect and keep me from falling so I give my life to You. In Jesus’ name.

Thinking By Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.–Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:6-8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What we think can dictate the way we feel. Then our feelings effect our thinking and so the spiral goes. So much of what we think at a rudiment level is false. So much of what we worry about, self talk of how we view ourself, our core beliefs about life are based on lies, half-truths or erroneous assumptions. They enter our minds in stealth mode and before we know it, we are feeling down. These lies go unchallenged and cause all sorts of havoc in our lives. Paul says that there is a better way. He says to pray. Talk to God about our thoughts, expose them to the light of the Holy Spirit. He is able to guard our hearts and minds. William Backus in his book, “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” shares “Feelings follow your thoughts. Untruthful, negative thoughts lead to unpleasant feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration, while truthful, positive thoughts create corresponding pleasant and upbeat feelings.—Your feelings can serve as an alarm to remind you to question your thoughts and beliefs. Are they negative or positive? Are they true or false? Once you’ve begun to identify the underlying thoughts and beliefs, you are on your way to healing, wholeness, and happiness.” Today begin to follow Paul’s advice. When negative feelings come, “fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my inner person. You hear my self talk better than I do. By the power of the Holy Spirit please alert me to my negative thinking and help me fix my thoughts on what is true. Help me think with my faith in Your love and power, not with my feelings. In Jesus’ name.

The Desires Of Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalms 37:4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The song, “Looking for love in all the wrong places” could easily be changed today to, “Looking for desire in all the wrong places.” We look to fulfill the desires of our heart through worldly pleasures only to come up empty handed. In his book “Desire” John Eldredge writes about pleasure as a false God, an idol. He writes, “Wal-Mart is open twenty-four hours a day now, with a dozen restaurants nearby. Next door, a multiplex theater with thirty seven screens. Or stay home – we have more than a hundred channels on the TV. Then there are computer games and the internet. We’ve discovered gourmet coffee, gourmet jelly beans and popcorn. We’ve nearly perfected our little pleasures. But they are all imposters—every one. We are so taken by the dizzying array of choices, we never have to stop and take a good look at what we are doing.” He then brings up an interesting point. “Pleasure isn’t nearly so much about satisfying our desires as it is about anesthetizing ourselves. Think about the relief your pleasures provide: Is your desire truly and deeply satisfied, or does the relief come more through the temporary absence of desire?”  You see, God knows the desires of your heart. He knows what you are lacking and He has promised that if you delight yourself in Him and His ways, He would give you the desires of your heart. No worldly pleasure can do that. Today delight yourself in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, only You can really satisfy the desires I have deep in my heart. Only You know me intimately and have a plan for my life. Forgive me for having idols of pleasure. I renounce them and have decided to delight myself in you. Thank You that You will give me the desires of my heart.

Give Me Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
“Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.”
Psalms 86:4-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where do you find real joy? There are many things that can make us happy, but this is not the same thing. According to the dictionary, joy is, “the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying.” And David knew where to find it. He found deep down lasting joy in the presence of God. He found it in his clear conscious, the result of God’s forgiveness. He found it in God’s unconditional love toward him. What about you? Have you found joy? If not, start today. Ask God to bring joy deep into your soul. Meditate on His word. Accept His forgiveness. Bask in the great love He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, bring joy to me today. Truly, I can say with David, “You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.”
I lift my soul up to you and ask You to fill it with the joy only You can provide. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Focus

Focus

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How serious are you about Jesus Christ? How committed are you to living the kind of life He asks you to? It is easy to “talk” about following Jesus but living for Him is another story. He hasn’t asked us to join a club. There was never a request to just become a “member.” Following Jesus is not a hobby. Rather, Christ asks us to be His disciple. Actually, more than a disciple, we are called to be His disciple on a mission. A mission to spread His word and love to everyone we can. The author of Hebrews illustrates this with the metaphor of an athlete. He writes that we have to strip ourselves of those things that prevent us from running our race. And when we run we must run it with endurance. But what really makes the difference, what really motivates us to keep our course, is focus. We focus on the love of Jesus. The love He has for us and the love we have for Him. He was the one who started us on this journey and He will see us through. Rick Renner, in his book, “365 Days of Power” shares a confession of dedication. Today make this your confession. “I declare by faith that I am more deeply in love with Jesus Christ today than at any previous moment in my life. My affection for Him is so deep that I will never turn back to the life from which I’ve been delivered. I have no relational obligations greater than the sense of obligation that I feel for Jesus Christ. He saved me, redeemed me, delivered me, and changed me—and I vow to serve Him for the rest of my life! I declare this by faith in Jesus’ name!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have heard my confession. I thank You for the call You have on my life. Help me today, to focus on You and the mission of love You have me on. Loosen everything from me that prohibits me from living the way You want me to. Help me run the race You have put me in, with endurance, keeping my eyes on You.

What Are You Thinking?

TODAY’S VERSE
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Proverbs 23:7
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Philippians 4:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Solomon was warning his readers that when a person offers you something, it is really important to know their motives. Solomon made the wise observation that what a person really thinks in his heart or inner thoughts, is his true motive. The same is true of us. What we think in our inner self, what we say in our self talk when nobody is around, is what really shapes us. This is why Paul talked about the inner dialog so much. In today’s passage he tells us to focus our thoughts on those qualities that God would have us focus on, those positive thoughts that reflect His presence in our life. He says to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. But it is not enough just to enter good thoughts, we need to battle those feelings, thoughts and core beliefs that are contrary to God and His word. He writes in II Corinthians 10:5, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Today, slow down and listen to what you are really thinking. Listen to your inner voice, your feelings and self talk. This is where the battle for who we really are is won or lost. As attitudes, beliefs, assumptions, motives or emotions are discovered, check to see if they align up to Biblical standards. If not, talk to God about it. Confess and renounce “every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Today, ask God to change you from the inside out.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know who I really am. You know who I need to be. Please expose my hidden self to me so I can apply Your word to my thinking and be the person You want me to be.

Where Are You Walking?

TODAY’S VERSE
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.” — “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:1-2, 10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Not all walking is the same. There is the stroll down the beach on a beautiful sunny day. Is there anything better than hearing the waves slap the shore, the sounds of birds above and feeling the warm sun on your face? How about a hike down a mountain path? Beautiful horizons, breathtaking waterfalls and exotic foliage as you walk back to the valley below. But then there is the walk from the car into the hospital after you have received news of a loved one who has been admitted. Or the terrifying walk into a court room as you face a legal battle. Or how about a walk looking for somewhere warm to sleep when you are homeless, living out in the streets. Not all walks are the same. Paul is writing about the contrast in two different types of walk. In this context the word walk means the way of life we choose to live. The first walk Paul talks about is a death walk. Walking through each day spiritually dead because of our own disobedience and sins, obeying the devil the commander of this world. The second walk Paul talks about is the walk of purpose and meaning. Paul writes that this is living as if we really believed we are the personal workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus for good works. This is walking through life with a meaning, a purpose and a mission greater than ourself. Where are you walking? You do have a choice. You don’t have to go down the walk of death. Today, choose life. Choose to follow Christ and walk with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me walk with You. You know the times I have wandered down dead-end streets and alleys and ended up spiritually bankrupt. Thank You for sharing with me that I ‘m Your personal workmanship and that You have created me for doing good. Help me walk today in the kind of life You created me for. I choose to follow You.

The Grace, Love and Fellowship of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
II Corinthians 13:14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father and the fellowship with our Holy God’s Spirit. Does it get any better than this? The three keys to life, all found in our Christian experience. The grace of Jesus Christ. Grace, the ability of Christ to see us as we really are and because of His death on the cross, be able to extend unmerited favor upon us, forgiving us, cleansing us and making us whole. The love of God the Father. Love from the one who is love. Perfect love. Unconditional love. Unfathomable love. Unending love. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The comforter has come and He brings a fellowship sweeter than life itself. A deep relationship, teaching us of truth, judgment and righteousness. A fellowship that results in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. He guides us, protects us, comforts us, teaches us and leads us. Today you can avail yourself of all of this. This is the normal Christian experience that God desires you to have. Today, ask Him to make you keenly aware of the grace of Christ, the love of God the Father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to make it real deep in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me see and really understand, deep in my heart, what it means to be filled with the grace of Jesus, the love of the Father, and the fellowship with the Holy Spirit. I desire to know this in all its fullness. In Jesus’ Name.
