Fellowship

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isolation can really get you down. It is easy to lose our focus and succumb to negative emotions when we try to live all by ourselves. Loneliness can eat away at us and undermine our spiritual growth. The good news is that we don’t have to be alone. We don’t have to isolate. We have everything we need in Christ and in the fellowship of other believers to live a fulfilling Spiritual life. Paul encourages us to let the scriptures dwell in us and penetrate deep into our heart and soul. Dwell is used to indicate something living in a residence. Christ indwells us, and through the Holy Spirit and His word, desires to have a deep relationship with us. This relationship can be as real as any relationship we have ever had. Paul also encourages us to fellowship with others in the faith, the kind of fellowship that cares through teaching and admonishing us. Fellowship that nurtures our faith through singing and worship. God established the church so we could have fellowship helping us to grow spiritually, rather than withering away by ourselves. Today make it a point to stop isolating yourself spiritually. Establish a deeper relationship with God. Reach out and find other believers that you can share and fellowship with. As you do, God will enrich your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father I desire to have a deeper relationship with You. I desire to enrich my life through fellowship with other Christians. Help me make this a priority in my life today. Please show me where to begin. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Love As God Loves

TODAY’S VERSE
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
I John 4:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of ways we can try to show that we are a Christian. We can go to church. We can attend religious programs. We can pray before meals. We can vote for certain political figures. While these may be important, the real evidence that God is alive in our heart is our love for other people. Over and over again, the Bible teaches that God is not interested in out outward appearances, our sacrifices or our religious ceremonies. He is interested in our behavior. Are we forgiving, just, loving, kind and benevolent toward our families and those around us? If not, then we need to take time and get to know God better. Knowing God is transformational knowledge. John said that if we don’t love, we don’t know God. In the book of James we read, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” If the love of God is in our heart then it will compels us to love. Paul shares this kind of love in I Corinthians 13. He writes, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” We say we know God but does our behavior back us up? If you were arrested today for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence of love to find you guilty? It’s not too late. Why not start loving others today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that my actions don’t always confirm my belief in You. You are love and yet there have been many times that I have not been loving toward others. Forgive me. Help me today to be filled with Your love and then go out and love others in the same way. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Strength Of Our Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.”
Psalms 73:26

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Asaph, the author of this Psalm, was a bitter man. He was envious of the wealthy and upset at his own demise. He was consumed at what he thought was unfair about life. But then he came to his senses. He writes, “Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant”. How many times have we been the same way? But let me ask you. “Who says life is fair?” “Where in the Bible does it say everything in life is going to be grand?” “Where does it say that we will be spared from pain and heartache?” Asaph awoke with the realization of what really mattered. He wrote, “Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth.” Asaph realized what was the most important thing in life. He said it all in today’s passage, “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” It is the strength of the heart that comes from knowing God that matters. That is why Paul said, “Nothing can separate us from the love of God.” Our circumstances may crumble, our bodies fail, our enthusiasm all but gone and yet God will never, never, never leave our heart. The strength of our heart from His abiding presence will remain with us forever. Rejoice, His love and presence is with you forever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to truly understand what it is to have You as the strength of my heart. Help me treasure Your relationship above all else. Thank You for loving me and being my strength forever.
AMEN

Get Rid of Anger

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.”
Psalm 37:7-8

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:31-32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In life you will find situations that will make you angry. It is what you do next that makes a difference. Many who have acted out their anger justify it by saying that it was “righteous indignation”. But I don’t see righteous indignation listed by Paul as one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Instead God encourages us to react in a different way. In Psalm 37 we are told to be still before God and wait patiently for Him. We are to stop fretting, refrain from anger and turn from wrath. Paul writes in his letter to the Ephesians, that we are to get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander and malice. Instead Paul admonishes us to be compassionate and forgiving toward each other like Christ is to us! Today, when pressures mount up, when there is a misunderstanding, when you feel like there is no way out, don’t let anger take over. Get rid of the bitterness, rage and anger that consumes you. It is a habit that needs to be broken. Instead lift up a prayer and ask God to help you react in a more Godly fashion. Do what Paul suggests. Be kind, compassionate and forgiving toward those that have made you mad. Why? Because Christ has already done the same for you!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how anger comes so easily for me. You know how I struggle to trust You, to let You take charge of my life especially in negative situations. Forgive me. Father help me trade my anger for compassion, my bitterness for forgiveness, my rage for love. Help me live the way You would have me live. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Come

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come, follow me,’ Jesus said”
Matthew 4:19

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.”
Matthew 25:34

“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”
John 7:37

“Come, for everything is now ready.”
Luke 14:17

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Come is one of the most beautiful words in the Bible. It is an offer to participate in something. An invitation to move in a certain direction. It is only as good as the person requesting you to come and the object which you are moving toward. Today God offers so much for you to partake of. He offers you the ultimate relationship with Himself and all that goes with it. What is it your soul desires? Come. What is it that you find missing in your life? Come. Are you weary? Come and find rest. Are you poor in Spirit? Come, take your inheritance. Is your heart thirsty? Come. Do you desire peace, joy, forgiveness, strength, hope and love? Come. Today, hear the voice of the Lord. He is calling out to you. All you need to do is come.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my needs. You know my desires. You love me, and today I hear Your voice say, “Come”. So I come to You dear Lord with open arms and heart. I come to You in humility and anticipation to receive all that You have for me. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Soften Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is what the LORD says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: ‘Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns.’”
Jeremiah 4:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever tried planting vegetables in a patch of weeds? I did once and it was a disaster. Instead of breaking up the soil and getting rid of the weeds, I thought I would put a piece of plastic down and cut slits where the seeds would go. It made sense to me. I planted the seeds and the plastic would stop the weeds. Perhaps that would have been true if I used black plastic. But I used clear! Without knowing it, I created a greenhouse for weeds! I had prize winning weeds and barely a vegetable survived. How much better had I plowed the row, taken out the weeds and planted the seeds. This is what Jeremiah is saying about our heart. We are to take our spiritually hardened hearts and break up the soil. We do this by letting God’s truth humble us, soften up our soil and then we can pull out the weeds that have grown in our heart. When we do this, we can replace the weeds with the seeds of His word. The fruit of the Spirit will multiple in this weed free environment. Is your heart hardened toward the things of God? Soften it today through prayer and a humble attitude toward God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You my heart. I ask You to break up the hardened ground and help me pull out the weeds. Help me plant the seeds of Your word that I may live for You.
AMEN

He Is With You

TODAY’S VERSE
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Joshua 1:5

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;”
Isaiah 43:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get overwhelmed with life’s struggles. We begin to worry and lose our focus. We become overwhelmed and reach out in inappropriate ways to relief the stress we have built up in our mind. Anxiety and worry is like that. Even though the majority of what we worry about will never happen we obsess on the negative and soon are out of control with fear. But God has a better way. Isaiah tells us to “fear not” because God has redeemed us and summoned us by name. We do not need to fear because God offers us a deep personal relationship with Him. He promises us that when we “pass through the water” He will be with us. Likewise God told Joshua, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
So today when we start to worry, when we start to feel things are out of control remember that God has not left you. He has not forsaken you. When you feel the pressures of the day build up stress and you are tempted to give up, remember He knows you by name, you are His. He has promised that when you go through difficulties, He will be with you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me not to fear. Help me not to worry. Instead help me to remember that You will never leave me or forsake me. Thank You that You know me by name and that no matter what I go through today, You will be with me.
AMEN

Increase My Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Romans 4:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Being fully persuaded makes all the difference in the world. Our faith is only as good as our belief in the object of our faith. If we don’t have a relationship with God, how are we going to really trust Him? How are we going to be fully persuaded that He is able to do the things He promised? A second hand faith passed down from your parents won’t do. A nominal, Sunday only, Christianity will not produce the evidence you need to put your trust in God. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He said because He knew who God was. You can have that kind of relationship with God. He invites you to know Him. He has provided the Holy Spirit to teach you and lead you into a deep relationship with the Father. Start today, by committing yourself to a process of knowing God better. Begin to pray for specific requests and watch as God answers them. As He does, you will learn about His character, His desires, His will. It is this experiential knowledge that teaches you that God has the power to do what He has promises. This will cause you to pray for more mighty acts of God with more faith. Little by little as God reveals Himself you too will become fully persuaded.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me step out in faith today. As I trust You and You reveal Your power and Your majesty to me, help me to trust You more. Build a faith in me until I am fully persuaded that You have the power to do what You have promised. Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

My Story

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. — Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.”
Psalms 71:15-16, 18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is your testimony? What can you tell others about God? What have you allowed God to do in your heart, mind and life that others would want to know about? David shared his enthusiasm about God with everyone who listened. Why? Because David had an incredible relationship with Jehovah. He trusted in God with his whole heart and saw God as a righteous God, who met his every need. In this Psalm David is an old man. Even in his last days, David proclaimed God’s power and mighty miracles to the new generation coming after him. Today more than ever people need the Savior. They need to see Christians with a vibrant relationship with a loving all powerful God. What is your story? What can you say about God’s miraculous power? What can you say about God’s faithfulness and provision? So many people never enter a church. They never read the Bible. But every day they are watching your life, listening to your conversation. They may never read the Gospel according to Matthew or Mark. The only chance they have is to see the Gospel according to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me. Help me to share Your love with others. Help me to be faithful in my witness of Your power and provision in my life. I pray that Your gospel message would be alive and well in my story and than many would witness You in me and believe. By Your grace and for Your glory.
AMEN

Seek Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.”
Psalms 70:4

“But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever sought after God? There are so many different things we seek after every day, some good, some not so good. But the one thing that will make all the difference in the world is seeking after God. God can meet the longing of your heart. He can satisfy your every need. The secret is seeking God with all your heart and soul. It cannot be a half hearted search, but rather a desperate longing, a deep commitment to know and love God. It is nothing less than a consecration of your life, passions and purpose. When you seek God in this way you will find Him. Start today. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to make you aware of His presence. Spend time with Him. Meditate on His word and come to Him in prayer. When you do, you will find out that the Psalmist was right when he wrote, “all who seek you will rejoice and be glad”.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You better. I need You and want to know You with all my heart and soul. I come today to seek an intimate relationship with You and ask that You will help me. Show me the way, guide me to Yourself. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
