My Heart, Christ’s Home

TODAY’S VERSE
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.”
Ephesians 3:16-17

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20

“Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.’”
John 14:23

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a famous booklet called, “My Heart, Christ’s Home” written by Robert Munger. The author used a house as a metaphor for our heart. He shares how excited we are to first let Christ into our heart. Like a home, we visit with Him in the living room, treating Him as our guest. We even offer Him a bedroom. However, most us stop there and never take Him to our more intimate personal rooms. Jesus never goes to the attic or searches our closets. After a while we get busy with life and quit spending time with Him. Soon we ignore Christ, running out of the house in the morning, never even talking to Him. 
The purpose of the book was to show us that knowing Christ is more than an occasional encounter. It is more than simply inviting Him into our heart. Knowing Christ is having intimate fellowship with Him. Paul prayed that the Ephesians would allow Christ to dwell in their hearts. This is where strength for our inner being comes from. John tells us that Christ is knocking on the door of our heart and wants to fellowship with us. Jesus told us that if we love Him, that He and His Father would come and make their home with us.
Who lives in your heart today? Why not let Jesus in? Why not let Jesus visit every room. Give Him complete control of your life and access to all parts of your being. You can trust Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I want my heart to be your home today. Come visit and reside in my heart. Lord go ahead and check out every room, every closet, even the basement. Be in complete charge of all I have and all I do. Be the ruler of my heart, and make it Your home.

The Unseen Real

TODAY’S VERSE
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
II Corinthians 4:16,18
“I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 16:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The presence of God is a reality that we can experience. He is the God who is there. Unfortunately, we can go day after day and never be conscious of His reality. Leanne Payne, in her book, Listening Prayer writes, “It is especially easy for modern people to regard the supernatural world and activities as somehow less real than the world we behold with our senses. As twentieth-century Christians, we live in a materialistic age in which our systems of learning have long based their conclusions on scientific truth alone. The presuppositions of such systems have misled many generations of students, blinding them to the truths of God and the Unseen Real.”
Paul says that he did not lose heart because the reality of fixing his eyes on what is unseen. The unseen reality of God renewed his heart, day by day. David said that was not shaken by life’s experiences because he experienced God at his side. How about you? Is God’s presence a reality in your life? Do you renew your heart day by day because of the reality of His presence in your life? It’s not too late. Start today to experience His reality. Spend time with God, talk to Him, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. When you do, you will find out that He really is the “Unseen Real.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, my life is so full of everything else but you. I spend so much of my time without any awareness of your presence. I confess, I have been influenced by scientific rational thinking and find myself doubting your reality. I have kept you at a safe distance, turned you into a religious relic. Forgive me. Today, reveal yourself to me Lord. Help me be conscious of your presence. Help me renew my heart today by your unseen reality.

What Do You Want Him To Do?

TODAY’S VERSE
“She touched the fringe of his robe, for she thought, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.’”
Matthew 9:20-21
“Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’”
Matthew 20:30-32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Deep down inside you know there has to be more. There must be relief for your pain. Perhaps like the woman in today’s passage, you wonder, “What if I could just touch the fringe on His robe?” Like the two blind men on the side of the road, if you knew Jesus was coming, you would shout out to Him. In his book, The Church That Heals, Doug Murren writes, “We need the miraculous in the church today. Postmodern people are too broken to be fixed through simple human caregiving; they need to be pieced back together through the Supernatural healing of Jesus through His body the church.” What is it you need today? Where are you hurting? Today Jesus is asking you the same thing that He asked the blind men. “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I am sitting here today by the side of the road. I am in great need. I have shouted for mercy and you have heard me. Now, dear Lord, please hear my request. I simply come in faith to touch the hem of your garment and be healed. (Take a moment and share with Jesus what it is you need Him to do) Heal me I pray, in Jesus name.

The Kingdom of Heaven Is Near

TODAY’S VERSE
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”
Matthew 9:35

“As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.”
Matthew 10:7,8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus did the will of His father. He told His disciples to do the same thing. He gives us the same commission. Jesus said it best in John 14:10, 12.
“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Today you and I have been called to be about the same Father’s business. We have been asked to go to the world and cry out, “The Kingdom of God is near.” We are to go with the compassion of Christ and do the things He did. We are to pray that God would show forth His mighty power and do whatever we ask in the name of Jesus, so that it may bring glory to the Father. Today, ask God, “What would you have me do? What would you have me pray?” You are just as much His disciple as the original twelve. Follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that your Kingdom would be evident in my life today. Guide me, lead me, show me what you would have me do. Give me the courage and faith to trust you for mighty things and to be obedient to what you ask of me. I pray that I would honor you in all that I do today.

No Perfect People Allowed

TODAY’S VERSE

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
I Timothy 1:15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“No Perfect people Allowed”. I first heard this phrase in a message by John Burke, Pastor of Gateway Church in Texas. I find it appealing because it allows us the freedom to be who we are in Christ. It is like the phrase, “Christians aren’t perfect, they are forgiven.” Yet why is it we come to church and pretend that everything is okay and never seek out the help we need? Could it be due to the fact that when someone does something wrong they so often end up being ostracized from the rest of the fellowship? We need to work on getting rid of the stigma of falling down in our Christian walk and learn to help each other back up. People are looking for a Christianity where they can belong. Where they can be authentic and real with their life story. Paul tells us to “bear one another’s burdens” not to pretend we don’t have any. Paul starts his spiritual journey admitting that he is the “chief of all sinners”. As he goes through his journey he changes focus to who Christ is and what He does with sin. Christ convicts, corrects, forgives, gives grace and helps us get up after a fall and try again. We are not perfect, but thank God, He has a perfect plan. Begin today, with all your struggles and imperfections, to live for Him and rejoice in His unconditional love for you.  

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord I am tired to trying to be perfect. I cannot do it. I do, however, know how to accept your grace and forgiveness. I accept it today. Thank you Lord for accepting me with all my imperfections and helping me live for you. In Jesus name.

This Little Light of Mine

TODAY’S VERSE
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Matthew 5:14-15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Light. You never really appreciate it until you are in the dark. We take light for granted. I remember one night having to hike deep in a forest on a mountain side. I had to get to a destination by morning and all I had was a dim flashlight. All night long I appreciated every ray that emanated from the head of that lifesaving light. The next day on the way back I saw that I had walked for miles along the top of a deep ravine. Without the light I am sure I would have perished.
As Christians, we are the light for the world. We are the illumination on the path that leads through the wilderness along the dangerous ravine. Jesus reminds us that we must not hide the light but instead should put it where everyone can see by it brightness. He concludes with this command, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Today you have a choice. You can contribute to the darkness of those around you or you can be the light. There is no neutral ground. When God give us opportunity today, might we shine with the Love of Christ that God will get the praise and glory.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that today you would shine your light
through me as you guide me to the darkness that you want me to shine upon. Help me see the needs around me and respond with your love and compassion so others will praise you.

Don’t Work In Vain

TODAY’S VERSE
“Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”
Psalms 127:1

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to try and do everything by ourselves. Perhaps we don’t trust others? Perhaps we feel we need to get ahead and no one cares as much as we do. Maybe deep down we enjoy the praise and recognition we get from being a rugged individual. Or, if we fail because we try to do everything by our self, perhaps even negative attention is better than no attention at all.
When is the last time you did something “with the Lord”? Notice I didn’t say “for” the Lord. I said “with” the Lord. We need God, plain and simple. It is vain to try and do things without Him. He loves you. He cares for you. God wants to work for and with you to do His will. Paul reminds us, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” 
Doing His good works, in His time and in His strength is what we were created for. It is where we will be the most fulfilled. It is where we will have the greatest peace. Today, work with God. Find out what He wants you to do and join Him. Or, if you have things you must do already, invite God to partner with you. If you do, it not be in vain or wasted.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I realize that so much of what I have done has been on my own. So much of what I have done has been in vain. I am so sorry. Today I realize that I am your workmanship and that you created me to do your good works. Thank you so much. Today, Father, I ask you to take charge of my life. I invite you to guide me in all I do. I commit this day and all of it’s activities to you. In Jesus name.

Behold His Beauty

TODAY’S VERSE
“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.”
Psalms 27:4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember when I first saw my wife. People had told me about her. They said that we would be a great couple. One friend, who was trying to match us up, brought me a magazine article with her picture in it. That was it. I was smitten. I beheld her beauty. It was more so when I finally met her. While we were dating I would catch myself looking at her. Still today, I am moved by her presence. This is more than a visual experience. It is emotional and existential. Why? Because I fell in love with her.
Did you know that you can behold God in the same way? You can. God has given us an “inner eye”, that spiritual ability to connect with Him in a deep and personal way. David knew this, so he made it his most passionate desire. He wrote, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; to behold the beauty of the Lord.” If you can do that, everything else in life will fall in line. Today, stop and ask God to help you “behold His beauty.” Commit yourself to spend time in His presence, read His word, meditate on His goodness and you will begin to fall in love with God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me begin to behold your beauty. Help me know you, hear you, fellowship with you. Help me trust you, commit myself to you, help me love you. Lord I know this is a process, but it is one I deeply desire. Start today Father, guide me into a deeper relationship with you.

Renew Your Deeds Today

TODAY’S VERSE
“LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known.”
Habakkuk 3:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever read a passage of scripture that seems to express the longing of your heart? This verse expresses mine. Every time I read the scripture I end up marveling at God’s deeds. How magnificent. How mighty. As I read the life of Jesus I cannot help but think of how merciful and full of love He is. And yet, as I see my life, as I see the church today, as I see our country I cannot help but pray what Habakkuk prayed, “Renew your deeds in our day; in our time make them known.” I believe God has stayed His hand. I believe He is waiting for the church to believe that He is mighty today and not just in the past. He is waiting for us to lay down our materialism, our preoccupation with success, fame and riches. I believe He is waiting for those of us who go to church on Sunday to want His Lordship on Monday. We need the prayer of Habakkuk to flood our churches, to be on the lips of our people. It needs to be our passion, our plea and our deepest desire. We need the Lord. We need His mighty power in our life. Today marvel at all that God has done in the past and then ask Him to do it again in your life. He is waiting for us to ask.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I marvel at your mighty deeds. How I stand in awe of all that you have done. Dear Lord, I need your power in my life. I come today and ask that you would again do your mighty deeds. Renew them again and make your self known to my world. Work in my life today that others might see and stand in awe of you.

Hope Does Not Disappoint

TODAY’S VERSE
“We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”
Romans 5:2-5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Births and funerals. Health and disease. It seems that life has it’s contrasts. On one hand we have the promised land, on the other we have the wilderness. None of us go through life unscathed. We all have trials and difficulties. Some self inflicted others inflicted upon us. Paul knew that the temptation during difficulties is to complain and give up, so he wrote to the church in Rome to encourage them during their time of persecution. Paul admits to them that on one hand we have our hope of heaven and on the other hand we have suffering in this life but he instructs us in both circumstances to rejoice. I understand the rejoicing in the hope of heaven, but why would Paul say that we should rejoice in our sufferings? Paul says we should rejoice in our sufferings because of “hope”. Hope is the word that makes all the difference. You see our suffering produces perseverance which produces character which results in hope. But what really makes hope spectacular is what Paul writes next. Five words: “Hope does not disappoint us!” Hope in Christ will never fail. Today, you may have disappointment. You may have difficulties. But friend, today you also have hope!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today, where there is darkness help me see hope. Where there is pain help me feel hope. Where there is disappointment help me realize hope and where there is doubt, fear and anxiety, help me know hope. Father, thank you that you promised that your hope will not disappoint us. I receive your hope today. In Jesus name.
AMEN
