A Deeper Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
For they did not believe God or trust him to care for them.
Psalms 78:22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I must admit that I am guilty. I often struggle to trust God to care for me. I am not being glib, and I am not proud of it. And even though I deeply believe in the grace of God, I shudder when I think of God’s anger toward the Israelites for their unbelief. My unbelief flies in the face of everything God wants to do in my life. I get up some mornings, and the best I can muster is, “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.” But here is an amazing fact. Because of His great love, He hears my prayer. He knows my fears, He knows my doubts, and as I commune with Him, His Holy Spirit prays on my behalf and starts to churn hope, faith, and perseverance deep into my heart. And I press on. God begins to reveal Himself, and I begin to believe all over again. His faithfulness is greater than my forgetfulness. His nurturing, caring, loving grace is greater than all my sin, even my unbelief. I genuinely believe this. Today, repent, believe, and trust Him. He does care for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so glad I can come to You in my human frailty. I ask forgiveness for my unbelief. I need You and trust You to speak to me, comfort me, and guide me into a deeper faith.
AMEN

A New Person

TODAY’S VERSE
Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
II Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are a new person in Christ. But how much do we really know about this “new person” that we have become? The authors of “Truefaced” make this point: “If we do not start with ‘trusting who God says we are,’ we will end up trusting in our own resources to try to please God.” The fact is, in Christ, we are sons and daughters of God. We are joint-heirs with Christ. We are a temple of His Holy Spirit. We are a “saint” and created by God to do His good works. We are disciples of Jesus Christ and citizens of heaven seated with Christ in heavenly places. God has chosen us to be part of His chosen race, a royal priesthood, a people of God. In Christ, we are Holy and dearly loved, free from condemnation for the things we have done. We are unconditionally loved, have been completely forgiven, and have been made righteous. We have been established, anointed, and sealed by God in Christ. Today, make these truths more than words. Let them sink deep into your heart. Believe that you are a new person in Christ, the old life is gone, and a new life has begun.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for making me a new person in You. Help me know what this means and to live it out in my everyday life.
AMEN

Have Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Mark 4:40 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You can’t live on your last breath. It’s not good enough to eat once a month. The nature of life is a process, not an event. Faith that you had in God yesterday will not uphold you in today’s trial. You must choose to put your faith in God today. The disciples were with Jesus every day. They witnessed His miracles, heard His teachings, and experienced His love. Yet in a crisis on the Lake, they asked Jesus, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Is it no wonder then that you, too, wrestle with faith? Jesus could ask the same of you, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The good news is that your faith can grow. While you must choose faith daily, if you fellowship with Christ and experience His power, the faith you have today will be greater than it was yesterday. So take heart. Even though you doubt, even though you struggle with many of your life issues, Jesus did not give up on His disciples, and He will not give up on you. Today, trust God and have faith in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I have lacked faith. Help me trust You today. Help me put my faith in the love You have for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Life With The Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 14:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get caught up in all the trappings of this life. We live in a very materialistic and mechanistic world. But there is more to life than fame, fortune, and fleshly appetites. We are emotional and spiritual beings, and we can choose to live by standards and values different from those of the world. Paul wrote that the Kingdom of God is about “living a life of goodness and peace and joy.” But not just any goodness, peace, and joy. No, the source of these emotions is none other than the Holy Spirit. There is a life God desires for us, and the secret lies in our relationship with the Spirit. Isn’t it time we get to know the Holy Spirit and let Him appropriate these qualities in our lives? Today, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, teach you, guide you, and assist you in living all that God desires for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit. I ask forgiveness for my ignorance and apathy toward You. Please help me live a life of goodness, peace, and joy in and through You.
AMEN

Hope and Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a glorious hope we have in Christ. Paul prays for the church in Rome, and we can claim this same prayer for ourselves. We can pray that God will fill us with joy and peace. Not just “fill” us, but “completely fill” us with joy and peace. How can He do this? He can do this because He is the source of all hope! And what do we need to do? What is our part in all of this? Our part is to trust Him. Simply trust in His love for you, and He promises that you will overflow with a confident hope, powered by the Holy Spirit. Today, put your trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, fill me with hope as I trust in You. Lord, turn that hope into joy and peace so I will overflow with confidence through the power of the Holy Spirit.
AMEN

A Simple Thing

TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the LORD says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! You will see neither wind nor rain, says the LORD, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. But this is only a simple thing for the LORD.
2 Kings 3:16-18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the faith of Elisha. He is telling everyone that God is going to do this mighty miracle. God was going to fill a desert with water, but He was going to do it without rain! And then Elisha adds, “But this is only a simple thing for the Lord.” Why are we so amazed by this kind of faith? Why do we so often vacillate between our own faith and unbelief? Most of the time, when I have doubts, it is because I do not know what God’s will is in a given situation. I seem to lack confidence in how to pray. Other times, it is simply a lack of faith. I need to remember what Elisha knew; miracles are not too hard for God. So how should you pray? You need to pray as God leads you. Elisha was close to God, and it was God’s Spirit that came upon him and led him to believe. Deep communion with God will do the same for you. You should seek direction from God and then ask Him for the mighty things He has shown you, with the assurance that nothing is too hard for God. So if a miracle does not happen, let it be due to the sovereignty of God, not because you did not believe or never asked. Today, seek God’s face in all matters and pray in faith, believing. Answering prayer is a simple thing for the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your mighty miracles. Help me to trust in You. Help me to commune with You and really know Your heart so I can pray in faith, believing.
AMEN

In His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of the death and resurrection of Christ, we can come into the very presence of God and receive all the mercy, grace, and help we need, just when we need it most. What a significant truth this is! Amazingly, God allows us to spend time in His presence. What is even more amazing is how many of us don’t spend that precious time with Him. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer,” the author, Rick Richardson, writes, “My heart was receptive – As we walk the healing journey, no other single thing we can do, may have a greater impact than learning to listen to God. God’s voice is the healing voice, just as God’s presence is the healing presence. We must hear the voice of God reverberate in our soul, exposing the lies about our unlovability, worthlessness, or despair and speaking to us the truth. We must.” Christ has done everything needed so we can come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. Today, do it! Listen to Him. Be confident that He desires to speak the truth of your lovability and worth to you and make you whole. When you do, you will find all the mercy, grace, and love you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for providing a way that I can come into Your presence. Thank You that Christ is my High Priest, and I can go boldy into Your presence. Thank you for the confidence I can have that You will give me all the mercy, grace, and help I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Fellowship With Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
I Corinthians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you wake up in the morning, who do you think you are? What purpose do you have for the day? Perhaps you think, “I’m a mother and need to take care of my children.” Or, “I am an employee; I need to get ready for work.” No matter what you need to be or do, Paul challenges you also to consider that by God’s grace, you have the privilege of fellowshipping with Christ today. If you woke up with that thought, how would that affect the way you start your day? What attitude would it give you? What joy would there be in your heart? The truth is that God chose you to fellowship with Him. Jesus desires that you become consciously aware of His presence and actively involved in a dialogue with Him. He wants to share in your joys and sorrows, your victories and defeats, your greatest pleasures, and most mundane tasks. Today, choose to fellowship with Him. Choose to include Him in your day. Share, pray, meditate, and talk to Him. God has called you to fellowship with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to fellowship with You. Help me to appreciate and fully understand what that means. Help me today to begin to fellowship with You in more profound and meaningful ways. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Stop Coping, Start Living

TODAY’S VERSE
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
For a long time, I had wrestled with my glasses. They were bent, causing me headaches and making me move my head awkwardly to make the bifocal lens work right. But hey, I could see okay. I was coping fine. Eventually, my reading was worse, and I noticed signs starting to blur at far distances, so I would move my glasses on my head and “cope” harder. Finally, I went in to get a new pair of glasses. I was embarrassed to realize that it had been over ten years since I last had an eye exam or a new pair of glasses. When the new glasses came, I was amazed at how much better I could see and how much less my face tensed up because I didn’t have to “cope” with seeing. Afterward, I couldn’t help but wonder how many issues I look at through worn-out glasses, learning to cope with inferior sight when a new pair of glasses is always waiting for me. Jesus said He came to give us extraordinary living, not some half-baked coping. He offers life and peace. Our thinking is poor eyesight at best. We need the direction of the Holy Spirit to give us the sight we need. Today, give up coping and start living. Quit trying to make it on your own, just getting by. Start living with the life and peace God has for you. Give your mind to the Holy Spirit and let Him take control.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have tried to cope on my own. I say, “I will follow You,” but instead, I rely on my efforts. Forgive me, Lord. Today, I give You all of me and ask You to control my life. I am tired of coping. I want the life You have for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Trust

TODAY’S VERSE
This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.
Psalms 91:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some days it seems as if doubt is waiting for me to wake up. I go to my chair to meditate, and doubt and fear sit across from me, arguing with everything I read. For example, in today’s passage, the Psalmist wrote, “For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. – Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.” As I read these verses, thoughts of those I know, people who are terminally ill, those who have been abused, those suffering financially came to my mind, and I began to doubt. I wrestled all day with my thoughts, and then I got it. The safe place is God, not my circumstances. At that moment, I understood that even though pain and suffering come, God will always be with me. He will never abandon me. I was moved to look at Psalms 91 again, and the second verse leaped out at me. “This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.” As I read it, a deep peace came over me. I can now say it with confidence. “God is my refuge. He is the safest place I know. He is my God and I choose to trust Him.” Today, put your faith in Him. He will be your refuge. He is indeed God. You can trust Him!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my doubt and unbelief. Thank You for being my refuge, for being a safe place for me. You indeed are my God. Today, I choose to put my trust in You.
AMEN
