Everything You Need To Do God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE
May He equip you with all you need to do His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have to live the Christian life alone? Isn’t it exciting that God is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a business person calling and saying they are giving you their successful company. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, equipment, and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down, and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says He will produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need to do His will! So today, you can go about your day knowing that God’s will is already provided for everything you need to do. You can understand that God is more interested in producing every good thing that pleases Him in your life than you are. Rejoice; God, is committed to equipping you with everything you need to do His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need to do Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Trust And Obey

TODAY’S VERSE
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt.
James 1:5-6 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever had people you are close to making a decision, a decision about something you know a lot about, yet they never asked your opinion? Have you ever been asked your opinion and then totally ignored? Have you ever been asked to “weigh in” on a decision only to have to “buy in” to a decision you disagree with? It is hard when you are ignored or when decisions are made that you think should have been different. What about God? How does He feel about people who never ask for His opinion on anything? How about people who pray a desperate request, never really intending to listen? Or worse, what about those who ask God for wisdom and treat His answer as simply a “weigh-in,” deciding later to ask God to “buy in” to their decision contrary to what God suggested? Do you ask God for wisdom or go about your life without His opinion? If you do ask God for wisdom, do you listen to it, or are you off to something else, not really listening for an answer at all? Finally, if you ask for wisdom and hear God’s voice, do you “obey” it or “weigh” it? James tells us to ask God for wisdom and then believe God will give it to us and not doubt His answer. Today, when you need wisdom, ask God, really ask Him. Then, listen to what He says. When you hear, follow His path. It is like the old Hymn says, “Trust and obey, for there is no other way. To be happy in Jesus, just trust and obey.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I don’t ask You for wisdom as I should. And when I asked, I often ignored you. Forgive me, Lord. I know I need Your wisdom for this life and ask that You give it to me. Then, Holy Spirit, guide, direct, and empower me to do what Your wisdom dictates. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Power For Your Weakness

TODAY’S VERSE
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
II Corinthians 12:8-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have different skills and abilities. Some are natural, some are learned, but most are honed through experiences. Good experiences and bad help us mature and add to our personal development. From our experiences, we can reach out and help others. Paul was going through dire circumstances, and God told him He would provide all the grace he would need. Paul could then testify to others how God’s grace was all he needed. In “The Angel That Troubled the Waters,” Thornton Wilder writes about a Physician who wanted to be healed, but God did not heal him. Instead, an Angel came and said this to the Doctor, “Without your wounds where would your power be? It is your melancholy that makes your low voice tremble into the hearts of men and women. The very angels themselves cannot persuade the wretched and blundering children on earth as can one human being broken on the wheels of living. In Love’s service, only wounded soldiers can serve.” Christ wants to allow His power to be used through your weaknesses. Bring your weakness and troubles to Him today and begin helping others in the way Christ helps you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my struggles, weaknesses, and human frailty. I come to You and ask for Your grace to give me all I need to be a wounded healer. Help me relate how Your grace has been sufficient for me. May your power be manifested in my weaknesses today.
AMEN

Our Real Self

TODAY’S VERSE
For to me, to live is Christ
Philippians 1:21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul had found the secret to real living. He discovered his true, authentic self when he found his life in Christ. It is not that he “lost” himself but that his true purpose and meaning for existence were “found” when he found Christ. There was no dichotomy in his life. There wasn’t a “church” personality on Sunday, and a different one at work on Monday. Rather, there was integration between his faith and his life. Dr. David Benner, in his book “The Gift of Being Yourself,” writes about our identity found in Christ. He writes, “There is, a way of being for each of us that is as natural and deeply congruent as the life of the tulip. Beneath the roles and masks lies a possibility of a self that is as unique as a snowflake. It is an originality that has existed since God first loved us into existence. Our true self-in-Christ is the only self that will support authenticity. It and it alone provides an identity that is eternal.” What about you? Have you dedicated your life to Christ in such a way that you have found your true, authentic self? Can you say with Paul, “For me to live is Christ”? If not, why not surrender your heart to Him today? Ask Him to reveal your true self in Christ to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I admit that I have built my life how I see fit. I have ignored the restlessness deep in my heart that cries out for You. Today, I choose to make You ruler of my life. Father, please help me. I want to say with Paul, “For me to live is Christ.”
AMEN

Heal My Inner Self

TODAY’S VERSE
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We worship the God of the Universe. The cosmos and everything in it is under His control. But there is another universe that needs His rule as power and His presence so greatly. It is the universe of our inner world. This world is where we store our core beliefs, inner thoughts, and emotions. A world full of implicit memories reacting to the sensations around us, committing us to a path of action that often needs the touch of God. It is this world that so desperately needs Him. It is in our inner world that we need to ask, seek and knock for peace, joy and the filling of the Holy Spirit. It is in our inner world that we need the “peace that passes all understanding.” In her book, “The Healing Presence,” Leanne Payne writes, “Personhood, identity, being itself come from Him as our hands and hearts are open to receive. Focused on Him, we climb up and out of the hell of self and self-consciousness. Listening to the words He speaks, we are freed from the words that emanate from our unhealed hearts, from the unhealed hearts of our fellow creatures, or from the powers of darkness: those that accuse and tempt us toward separation and death. In listening to the words that come from God, we become all we were created to be.—God the Father, who has the Power of Being, heals and affirms us. By fiat He spoke the worlds into existence, by fiat He can and does create in us a new and solid sense of being.” Today, ask God to do a work in your inner self. Seek, with all your heart, to be filled with His presence and peace. Knock upon the Father’s door, seeking His fellowship and His love. May His very presence flood you internally with a deep sense of purpose and eternal mission.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You said that I can ask anything of You. You are the giver of good gifts, and I come today asking that You do mighty work in my inner life. Please guide me, heal me, teach me, lead me. Help me today to become all that You created me to be. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Increased Faith And Love

TODAY’S VERSE
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing.
II Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul is writing about two marks of a healthy Christian: faith and love. But it is not just faith and love; it is a faith that is growing more and more and a love that is increasing. But what is a growing faith and love? A growing faith is one that increases one’s awareness and trust in God. It believes God for great and mighty things. It is a faith that trusts even when circumstances scare us to the core. It is a faith that knows God and spends time understanding His love and power. It is a faith exercised in prayer and patience, trusting God with every circumstance. And growing love, what of that? It is a love that is steeped in action. A love that reaches out to those in need. A love that drops superficiality and replaces it with genuine concern. A growing love is sacrificial and selfless. It is a love that forgives and then forgives again. It is a love that prefers others above itself. Today, ask God to help you increase your faith and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me exercise more faith. Help me increase my love. Help my faith and love grow as I serve You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Walk In The Light

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, ‘My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.’” – “I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark. John 12:35-36, (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hiking in the darkness is vastly different than hiking in the daytime. Once on a primitive hiking trip, I had to walk an injured person out of the woods to a hospital to get stitched up. It took most of the day. To catch up with the rest of the group, we hiked back on the trail during the night. Unfortunately, with so much use, my flashlight became very dim. What a hike! Winding up the mountain, large roots from the large trees crossing the trail ready to trip us, walking along cliffs, wild animals on the prowl, what would be challenging to navigate in daylight became unbearable in the dark. Slowly, using what light we had, we eventually made it back to base camp. How? By focusing on the light! You see, even with dim light, I could see the four or five feet ahead of me. It didn’t matter that thousands of acres were in darkness; I only needed to see the area where I had lit up. Even though our flashlight was dim, no matter how hard it tried, the darkness could not penetrate the light I had. In today’s passage, Jesus told us to “Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you.” The darkness of sin, doubt, despair, and confusion always tries to trip us up, so we have a choice to make. We can focus on the darkness or we can turn the light on! Today, might we decide to turn the light of faith, His word, and prayer on, living in the joy of knowing Jesus?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how dark my world can become. Help me to remember to turn on the light of faith, prayer, and Your Word so I can navigate the trail You have in front of me today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Let Me Count The Ways

TODAY’S VERSE
I love you, Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise.
Psalm 18:1-3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How we look at a situation makes all the difference in the world. Here was David in the midst of war. He is in an awful situation. Listen to what he writes, “The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path.” However, there was one thing that made all the difference. David continues, “But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.” David had great faith in a greater God. No wonder he starts the Psalm with, “I love you, Lord.” And like the famous poem, you can hear him say, “Let me count the ways.” And sure enough, he lists one attribute of God after another. Today, stop and count the ways. Is He your strength, your rock, your fortress, your Savior, your shield, your power, and your place of safety? He wants to be. Count all of the Lord’s goodness to you. He is worthy of your praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father God, truly, You are worthy of all my praise! You are my rock, fortress, shield, protector, provider, power, and Savior. You are God almighty, and I honor and praise you. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
I am the Lord your God. – But you have not listened to me.
Judges 6:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You would think if God spoke, people would listen and obey. But do we? How many times have we turned our back on what His word says? How many times have we ignored the conviction of the Holy Spirit? How many times have we bent the meaning of the Scriptures into our own will? There is dedication and discipline needed to listen to God. There is a passion tempered with a conviction that results in obeying what we hear. Part of listening is repenting when we know we have ignored Him. Part of listening is remembering the past and trusting Him with the present. However, the most important part of listening is spending time with God. Reading His word, meditating on it, and communing with God are the best ways to keep our hearts ready to hear Him. Might our prayer be like Samuel’s, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for speaking to me so many times. Forgive me for the times I did not listen. Help me to seek Your wisdom. Help me to read Your word and to meditate on it. Most of all, might the prayer of my heart be, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”
AMEN

Come To The Waters

TODAY’S VERSE
Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Isaiah 55:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an invitation. What an opportunity. What a heartfelt plea from God to every one of us. Given free will, we can choose what we do with our lives. We can decide who we want to follow. We can choose to fill our lives with things that will never satisfy. But God loves us so much that He pleads with us to wake up, consider our priorities, and choose life. In an allegory, God calls every person thirsty deep in their soul to come and drink His waters of spirituality. He can quench our thirst. Knowing that we are spiritually bankrupt, He says to buy what our soul needs from Him and charge it to His account. And then, in what I think is a deep cry out to our materialist society, God says, “Why spend money on what is not bread and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” God loves you and desires you to live in His abundant grace. Come to Him today. Take all that your soul needs. Feast on His love and care for you. Let your soul learn of Him and grow. Come today to His waters, and never thirst again.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You that I can come to You today and drink of Your love, mercy, and grace. Thank You for loving me unconditionally so that I will never thirst again. My soul delights in You.
AMEN
