A Full Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
II Thessalonians 3:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you understand the love of God? In today’s passage, Paul writes, “May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding of the love of God.” What an understanding that would be! If we really knew how much God loves us, it would change our lives! Paul also wrote, “May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” What a fantastic treasure. To have the power to understand His love and experience it! Indeed, knowing that would complete us with life and power. Today, start to meditate on His love for you. Feel it, sense it, receive it. May the Lord lead you into a full understanding of His unconditional love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, lead my heart into a full understanding and expression of Your love for me and the patient endurance I need to live it out in my everyday life.
AMEN

Choices

TODAY’S VERSE
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.
Joshua 24:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Choices can make all the difference in the world. Of course, not all options are equal. It probably won’t matter much if you had meatloaf or fish for dinner. However, what you choose to commit your life to does. Jesus constantly challenged us about our commitments. We can measure our commitments by looking at what we consider important. Jesus said it this way, “Where our treasures are, there will our heart be also.” So what do we have to choose today? Will you choose things that matter? Will serving God permeate the choices you make? Given other options, will you choose God’s peace, joy, and love? Make choices based on the things that God values. Today, choose whom you will serve.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know that I don’t always make good choices, but today, I choose You. I choose to follow You. I pray that You will help me make the right choices.
AMEN

Blessing Or The Blesser?

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”‘
Luke 17:17-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to seek the blessing more than the blesser. There were ten lepers, all with the same putrefying disease. All with the same hopeless situation. Unless. Unless the Jesus that they heard about could really do miracles. Unless this Jesus was as compassionate as everyone said He was. They came to seek a blessing, and as Jesus came down the road, they received it. All ten were healed. But only one gave thanks to the blesser. He was the one that was touched in his body and his soul. He is the one who stopped to worship and give thanks. The nine came to get a blessing; the tenth met the blesser. How different are we? Is it possible that we have gotten so used to our faith that we are running on auto-pilot? We get our daily dose of blessing and go down the road as if nothing significant has happened. But let something go wrong. Then what do we scramble for? We cry out again like the leper for a blessing. But, it is not a blessing that we need. It is the blesser. It is Jesus, who loves us, that we need to seek. We need to come to Him and let Him know our situation, then commune with Him and let Him guide us. He is what our soul requires. Today, let us commit our situation to God and come to Him, seeking the blesser, not the blessing. He is the blessing.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for being more worried about blessings than worship and for taking You for granted. You are what my life needs—you are the blessing. Today, I choose to seek Your fellowship more than anything else. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
II Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Are you growing in your knowledge of Jesus Christ? Have you been reading the Bible to know what He wants you to do? Have you examined the life of Jesus so you can follow His example? Do you know how He feels about you? Do you see life, with all its people and situations, with the eyes of Christ? God’s design was that you have more than a superficial knowledge of Christ. It is His desire that you grow in what you know and experience of Christ. That you will understand more and more about the unending grace that He has for you. As you do, you will have more peace in your life. Today, spend time and get to know Christ better. Learn about Him as you learn from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me to know You better. Help me learn more about Your desires and passions. Help me know Your love, grace, and peace. Teach me, guide me, instruct me I pray. Help me grow more and more in You.
AMEN

Direction

TODAY’S VERSE
Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
Psalms 25:4-5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are so many paths to choose from. Wouldn’t it be nice if we just had to make one turn and never had to ask for directions again? But that isn’t going to happen. Life has too many variables, and we are given free will. We were destined to make choices. The good news is we are not alone. We don’t have to make decisions all by ourselves. We can be like David. David had to make many decisions as a mighty warrior and later as King. Although he had the right to decide whatever he wanted to, David knew that having God’s guidance was the only way to make good decisions. David, even as a King, prayed that God would show him the right path. He asked God to be specific and point out the way he should go. God would guide Him by teaching David the truth. As David meditated on God’s word and character, he would end up putting more trust in God. This trust would result in hope and direction. Today, you have many different directions you could take. Stop and commit your journey to Him. Ask God to guide you and direct you in all you do and say. He will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I commit this day to You. You know all the decisions ahead of me. Grant me wisdom and show me the paths I should take. I put my hope and trust in You.
AMEN

Perfect Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s easy to fret. We are a predicting machine. We are always observing, calculating, and predicting the future. Trouble is that much of the time, our predictions of doom and gloom are wrong. All the worry, fretting, and precautions are for naught. Most of what we worry about doesn’t happen. But look at all the time wasted. Look at the lost opportunities for joy and peace. Our depression looks at the past. Our anxiety looks at the future. We forget to live in the now. That is why Isaiah said that we should fix our thoughts on God. If we want to experience God’s perfect peace, we need to trust in God. The way we trust in Him is to focus on His love, His strength, His ability. When we focus on His love and power, our worries will pale in comparison. He will keep us in His peace. Like a person sailing a sailboat, when the winds come up and the waves toss us back and forth, keep your eyes on the shore and constantly re-correct your course. You will reach your destination.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, when I begin to worry, help me correct my thoughts and meditate on Your love and power. Help me fix my eyes on You and put my trust in You. Thank You, Lord, that the result will be Your peace.
AMEN

Can or Can’t?

TODAY’S VERSE
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Can or can’t? They are two opposite pathways. They take you to very different places. “Can’t” takes you into the territory of doubt, despair, and eventually hopelessness. We can’t; they can’t, and soon, we believe that God can’t. Paul knew this. That is why he spent his life encouraging unbelievers to follow Christ and believers to increase their trust in Christ throughout their whole lives. And Paul was the consummate example! He trusted Christ for everything. And everything is what he expected. That is why he proclaimed, “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Today, decide to join Paul. Make your motto, “Through Christ I can.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me change my “can’t” to “can.” Help me trust in Your strength and not mine. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Peace Not Control

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Perfect peace. Just the thought of it calms my heart. It is a peace that comes from maturity. It is peace from knowing God in deep and intimate ways. I used to think it was control. If I could just control things I would have peace. I must avoid those things from the past that haunt me. I must keep appearances and not let anyone know the real me. I must worry and try to control the future, so I am not a victim again. What a trap. And this lack of peace, this need for control, brings all its friends to my front doorstep. Anger, bitterness, jealousy, loneliness, despair, and anxiety all congregate, waiting to get into my mind. How wrong I have been. The more I try to control, the more I need to control. Instead, with the peace from God in my heart, I no longer have to be in charge. This is perfect peace. Today, trust in God. Bring Him all your control issues. He knows your situation. He knows your past and future. Fix your thoughts on Him and His incredible love for you. Let Him give you a lasting, mature, and perfect peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You now. I want to experience your peace. I give up control and turn my situation and life over to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hope and Cheer

TODAY’S VERSE
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
Psalms 94:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created us for peace and joy. But doubt is a reality we all face. Uncertainly, apprehension, distrust, and confusion are part of our everyday life. None of us are unscathed. Life is full of ambiguity, but God has made us resilient. His presence and power give us the comfort and strength to bounce back from doubt and painful emotions. The Psalmist says it plainly. When doubt fills our minds, God’s comfort gives us renewed hope and cheer. Today, come to God. Lean on Him. Tell Him your concerns, worries, fears, and nagging doubts. Pour your heart out to Him. He cares, and He will comfort you. He will bring you back to hope and joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, you know how many doubts, fears, and apprehensions cross my mind. I need you. I need your comfort. Come, Lord Jesus, fill my heart with hope and cheer!
AMEN

Spiritual Wisdom And Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How different would our life be if we sought after and acquired the complete knowledge of God’s will for our life? But would that be enough? How many times have we known God’s will yet sat helpless to do anything about it? Jesus said to love our enemies. How easy is that? Perhaps that is why Paul also prayed that God would give us spiritual wisdom and understanding. If a complete knowledge of God’s will is the destination, then spiritual wisdom and understanding are the road map. It is how we get there. Today, ask God for His wisdom and understanding regarding His will for your life. He will guide you and direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom and understanding regarding Your will for my life. I get easily distracted, confused, and discouraged. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead my path today. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
