Discernment

TODAY’S VERSE
O LORD, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised.
Psalms 119:169 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you seek when troubles come? What do you do when the stress is really getting to you and you begin to feel helpless? God bids us to come to Him. God sent us the Holy Spirit, the comforter, to guide and lead us. He also has given us the Scriptures. In today’s verse, the Psalmist asked for understanding and discernment and knew it came from God’s assurances and promises. The Apostle Paul also knew the power of God’s promises and wrote to his disciple Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” Today, cry out to God. Let Him know what is on your mind, and then let Him give you the confidence, discernment, and understanding you need through His word.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, please comfort, guide, and give me the discernment and understanding I need for my life. Teach me through the Holy Scriptures, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

My Future

TODAY’S VERSE
But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, “You are my God!” My future is in your hands.
Psalms 31:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear and the future often go hand in hand. It is easy to let our imagination become full of worry and anxiety. So much so that we cannot focus on the present moment. The Psalmist had the solution. He trusted God with His future. He chose to put all his worries, concerns, and fears of the future into God’s loving hands. So today, whatever you are worried about in the future, whatever you may dread, give it to God. Trust Him with it. Say with David, “You are my God! My future is in your hands.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come today and put my trust in You. You are my God, and I know that my future is in Your hands.
AMEN

Seek The Lord’s Guidance

TODAY’S VERSE
Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the LORD for guidance.
II Chronicles 20:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you do when you are terrified? It is easy to panic, fret, and withdraw. King Jehoshaphat was told that three different armies joined together to take siege of Jerusalem. The Bible says he was terrified. But instead of running, he decided to seek the Lord. He prayed, “O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you! – Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war, plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.” This reminds me of another verse, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding, in all your way submit to Him and He will direct your path.” Today, no matter what your circumstance, seek the Lord’s guidance.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You are aware of all my circumstances. There is nothing that surprises You or can separate me from Your love. Therefore I come to You with all worries and seek Your wisdom and direction. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Wisdom And Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What could you do with it? What would your life be if you had complete knowledge of God’s will combined with spiritual wisdom and understanding? Solomon encouraged us to seek wisdom as if it were gold. Paul goes a step further. He prays that God would give us the knowledge of His will. Do you pray for that? To know God’s will in the affairs of your life would change everything. To have the assurance of what He wants you to do would give you the confidence you need to live the life He wants you to. Having spiritual wisdom and understanding would help you when you are stuck and baffled by life’s ups and downs. Oh, to have His wisdom and understanding when you are tempted to believe lies about yourself, life, and God. How blessed you would be to have His gift of spiritual wisdom to discern between good and evil, right and wrong, truth and lies. If Paul prayed this for the church, you can pray it for yourself. Today do that. Ask God, and do not stop until He gives you spiritual wisdom, understanding, and the complete knowledge of His will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, the giver of all good things. I ask you for spiritual wisdom, understanding, and the knowledge of Your will. Guide me; direct me toward this end, I pray.
AMEN

We Have A Choice Today

TODAY’S VERSE
May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you!
Psalms 70:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You have a choice. I learned this long ago. I was deep in depression and anxiety, and a new book came out. It was called “Happiness Is A Choice.” I remember how liberating that title was. Could I really choose happiness? David made that choice. He constantly laments and then follows with a choice to trust and praise God. In one incident, he writes, “I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.” A few verses later, he writes, “But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.” David had a choice. His situation was terrible, his depression heavy, but he chose to trust in God’s steadfast love, faithfulness, and timing. You can choose the same thing. Choose today to seek God’s love and faithfulness so you can rejoice and be glad in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my situation. You know my thoughts and feelings. Today I choose to thank You for Your steadfast love and faithfulness toward me. Today I choose to seek You. Help me rejoice and be glad in you.
AMEN

God’s Plans

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever.
Psalms 138:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One of the all-time favorite passages in the scriptures was written by Jeremiah. It has brought comfort to millions upon millions of people over the centuries. Jeremiah wrote, ‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”’ We love to think of God taking a personal interest in our life and directing us along a plan that He has for us. Today’s verse is a reminder of that truth. David wrote that the Lord would work the plans that He had for David’s life. Why? Because God’s plans come out of His great love for us and David had concluded that God’s faithful love toward him, would never cease. God’s has loving plans for you. And His plans will endure any calamity, any seemingly human mistakes, and any personal hardships. God’s love for you will endure forever. Today, put your trust in God. He has plans for you now on this earth and forever in the next.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for your faithful love for me. I trust You to work Your Your plans for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
Romans 8:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an incredible thought. That God Himself has given us His Spirit to dwell inside us. Paul writes, “You received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” So as God’s children, He gives us the indwelling Holy Spirit to teach us, guide us, convict us, correct us, comfort us, fill us, and help us in our weakness. All this to help us live for God. God knew how hard it would be, how weak we would be. Again Paul wrote, “We don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Yes, God knows we have weaknesses, but He gave us His Holy Spirit to make up the difference. What a marvelous gift. Today, yield to the leading, guidance, and authority of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to help you in your weaknesses.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I yield myself to You. Fill me, guide me, direct me. Help me with my weaknesses, so I can live for you.
AMEN

Leave It With God

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can become so complicated. How often do we need wisdom to navigate our way through the various problems we run into. Thankfully, as Christians, we don’t have to go through this alone; we have the Lord. Solomon gives us the secret. He writes that we need to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. However, Solomon knew how hard that is. He warns us that the temptation is to give our problem to God then take it back and depend on our own understanding. Instead, wise Solomon tells us to seek God’s will in everything we do, and the Lord will show us which way we need to go. Today, turn your situation over to God and leave it there. Trust Him and let Him direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for trying to make it on my own. I need You. I need Your direction in my life. As I seek Your will, please show me the way to go.
Amen

Light and Truth

TODAY’S VERSE
Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me.
Psalms 43:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What if you were in total darkness? How precious would the light be? What if everything you heard were lies and deception? How welcomed would the truth be? We need God’s guidance. We need Him to help us make it through the maze of life we find ourselves in. The great news is that God wants to guide us. He wants to give us light for our path and truth for our navigation. All we have to do is receive it. Today, come to God. Ask Him to shine His light into your darkness. Ask Him to give you His truth about all that you are worried and stressed about. He loves you. He will guide you, and He will lead you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that You will shine Your light into all the dark areas of my life. Help me see. Give me Your truth to correct my misunderstandings. Lead me in the right direction, I pray.
AMEN

Transformation

TODAY’S VERSE
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we – are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
II Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God is in the transforming business. I have seen it over and over again. God transformed Joseph’s situation. Joseph told his brothers, decades after they sold him to slave traders, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” Terry Wardle, in his book “Wounded,” writes about the transforming process he went through with the Holy Spirit, “I have experienced the healing hand of God, times of sweet intimate communion, and hard days when He seemed silent and uninvolved. – But of this I am sure: God has used these events to transform my life! – I can testify without hesitation that it is true – in God’s hands the object of one’s greatest pain does become the source of one’s greatest blessing.” There is freedom in Christ, and He desires to transform you and me more and more into His likeness. Today bring your cares, burdens, and situations to Him and let Him begin to transform you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I ask that You transform my bondage into Your freedom. Transform my pain into Your blessing. Transform my life into Your likeness. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
