Wait On God

TODAY’S VERSE
So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.
Isaiah 30:15—18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Lord longs to be gracious to us. We see it in today’s passage. By His own choice, God created us, knowing that in our humanness, we would be obstinate, fickle, and slow in responding to His love. He knew, and yet He put himself in a place of waiting for us to come to Him so He can show us His great love and compassion. Why does He do this? Why does He wait for us to respond to Him? Because He is faithful to us. His love is not like ours. His love is eternal, unfathomable, unconditional, and unfailing. So, He waits. And what is so ironic is that He waits for us to wait on Him. When we have tried everything else, when we have panicked, obsessed, returned from running away, quit our procrastination, stopped trying to do everything by ourselves, He bids us come to Him and wait for Him to love and meet our deepest needs. Today, quit hurrying and scurrying and come to Him. He is waiting for you to wait on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I admit that I worry and run around trying to fix things by myself. Forgive me for not trusting You. Today I come and pour my worries at Your feet. Guide me, help me, bless me, I pray as I wait on You for all my needs.
AMEN

Come Back To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Going down a highway, a person saw a sign that said, “Do you feel far away from God?” He was thinking about the question when the next billboard read, “Who moved?” Isn’t that usually the case? When we feel far from God, it’s not that God has moved, but rather it is because we have turned our back on Him. James knew that we have this propensity, so he wrote, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” But how do we come close to God? The first thing we need to do is go in another direction. If we moved away from God, we need to turn back and “draw near” to Him. Next, we have to confess and repent of those things that took us away in the first place. The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God.” Confessing to God and repenting from any wrongdoing will allow us to have a clear conscience and reopen the door of fellowship with Him. Finally, we turn to God with all our heart and mind. We come to Him in quietness, reflection, meditation, and prayer. We open our emotions and thoughts to Him and allow His Holy Spirit to commune with us, guiding, convicting, teaching, and directing our life. God desires to have a relationship with us. He hasn’t moved. Will you come to Him today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I must confess that there are so many times I feel so distant from You. I admit to my wandering. Forgive me for the sin that has separated us and help me stay in close fellowship with you. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit, I pray.
AMEN

Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. – For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:2-3, 6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a difference wisdom and understanding can make. How many times have we forged on ahead into a disaster because we did not seek God for insight? Solomon knew about the value of God’s wisdom more than any man that ever lived. He was asked specifically by God to request anything that he wanted, and what did he ask for? Money? A long life? Fame? No, he asked for wisdom. He knew that with wisdom, everything else in life would come. Solomon then asks us to do the same. He writes, “Seek wisdom and understanding.” And where should we seek? Solomon writes, “The Lord grants wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Today, let us be wise, by seeking His wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I cannot make it without Your guidance. Give me the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that I so desperately need. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

A Simple Thing

TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the LORD says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! You will see neither wind nor rain, says the LORD, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. But this is only a simple thing for the LORD.
2 Kings 3:16-18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the faith of Elisha. He is telling everyone that God is going to do this mighty miracle. God was going to fill a desert with water, but He was going to do it without rain! And then Elisha adds, “But this is only a simple thing for the Lord.” Why are we so amazed by this kind of faith? Why do we so often vacillate between our own faith and unbelief? Most of the time, when I have doubts, it is because I do not know what the will of God will be in a given situation. I seem to lack confidence in how to pray. Other times it is simply a lack of faith. I need to remember what Elisha knew; miracles are not too hard for God. So how should you pray? You need to pray as God leads you. Elisha was close to God, and it was God’s Spirit that came upon him and led him to believe. Deep communion with God will do the same for you. You should get direction from God and then ask Him for mighty things He has shown you, having the assurance that nothing is too hard for God. So if a miracle does not happen, let it be due to the sovereignty of God, not because you did not believe or never asked. Today, seek God’s face in all matters and pray in faith believing. Answering prayer is a simple thing for the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your mighty miracles. Help me to trust in You. Help me to commune with You and really know Your heart so I can pray in faith believing.
AMEN

His Word

TODAY’S VERSE
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How important is it for you and me to spend time with God in His word? It is imperative! It is a must. If we are going to live the kind of life God wants us to, then we must spend time listening to what God has to say to us. Everything we do is based on the various beliefs, perceptions, and assumptions we have. Many of these were shaped in childhood. Others are the result of the knowledge and experience we pick up as adults. If we are going to develop our thinking and behavior so that it aligns with God’s will for us, we must let His word penetrate deep into our hearts and make all the necessary changes we need to. The author of Hebrews compares the word of God to a sharp, double-edged sword. Just like a sword can cut deep into our flesh and bone, so God’s word cuts to the thoughts and attitudes that we hide deep in our hearts. God then can use His Word to judge and correct those core beliefs that guide the way we live. Habits, addictions, compulsive behavior, negative emotions can all change if we let His living and active word work in our hearts.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please use Your word to mold me, change me, and make me more like You. Cut to my inner thoughts and beliefs. Judge them, correct them and align them with Yours. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Which Way Do I Go?

TODAY’S VERSE
Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.
Psalms 77:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life’s pathways are not always smooth. There are many times when the terrain is rough at best. What do we do then? Thank God He is the one who promised to get us through to the other side. In today’s passage, we see that God was able to lead the Israelites through what seemed to be an impossible pathway. The Jews had left Egypt and were heading to the promised land when they ran smack into the Red Sea. I am sure that many of the people wondered what kind of path God had led them on. But the scriptures are clear; God had led them on a road that went through the Red Sea, a path that ran through the mighty waters. It was a road no one but God knew was there. He offers the same to us. He is the great shepherd. He is the one who can make our crooked paths straight. He is the one who turned the Red Sea into dry ground. So, what terrain are you on? What is your path like? Is it steep, full of sharp rocks, high cliffs, and loose footing? Does it take you through dark forests and thorny underbrush? There was a song we sung as little children that you can take comfort in. It said, “My God knows the way through the wilderness. All I have to do is follow.” Today, choose to trust God. Follow Him. He has a path you know nothing about. He is the Great Shepherd; He will get you home.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know the journey I am on. You know the path I am following. Please guide me, Lord. Help me know which way to go. You are the Great Shepherd, be my shepherd today I pray.
AMEN

Restore Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Restore us, O God; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
Psalms 80:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Children of Israel had abandoned God. They turned their back on God and began to worship Idols. God was angry at their betrayal. But a few of the people cried out to God. They repented and pleaded with God for mercy. Three times in this Psalm the author cries, “Restore us, O God; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.” And God did. He has done the same for me. How many times have I turned my back on God with unbelief, doubt, fear and even apathy? How many times have I wandered far from God, pursuing other objects of affection, ignoring the love He has for me? And yet, God loved me when I was farthest from Him? I snarled at His hand of affection, yet He reached down to me again. Likewise, God hears your cries. He is waiting for you to call out to Him. He loves to answer the prayer of repentance. Might your prayer be today, “Turn me again to Yourself, Oh God; make Your face shine upon me that I might be saved.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, restore my soul to You. Forgive me for the times I have wandered far away from You and have mercy upon me today. Shine Your face upon me that I might sense Your love, mercy, and forgiveness. Lead me back to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Everything You Need To Do God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE
May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have the live the Christian life by yourself? Isn’t it exciting that God Himself is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a business person calling you and saying that they are giving you their successful company. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, equipment and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it, that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says that He is going to produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need for doing His will! So today you can go about your day knowing that everything you need in order to do God’s will is already provided. You can know that God is more interested in producing every good thing that is pleasing to Him in your life than you are. Rejoice, God is committed to equipping you with everything you need for doing His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need for doing Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you desire to live a way that will always honor and please God? Do you want to produce every kind of good fruit with your life? These are high and lofty goals that Paul wrote for the church. But how? How do we achieve such spirituality? We do what Paul did. We pray and we don’t stop praying that we would know God better and better, gaining spiritual wisdom and understanding. It is through knowing God in this deep and intimate way that we will live the life He desires for us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please give me spiritual wisdom and understanding, so I can know You better and better, honoring and pleasing You. Help me produce the good fruit that You desire in my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Recorrect Your Course

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness.
Psalm 141:4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever noticed that you can start something correctly but over time things change! It can get that way with life. I remember going across a big lake in a canoe. It was October cold and raining. The house was across on the other side of the lake, but you could barely see it. I started toward it but soon couldn’t see it anymore. I panicked wondering what was wrong. I finally looked way to my left and there it was. The wind and waves had driven me off course. Even with all my paddling, I was going in the wrong direction. I had to recorrect my course. I had to do it several times in order to make it to warmth and shelter from the storm. It is easy to get off course in life. The waves and wind of everyday circumstances can take us to where we don’t want to go. Today, come to God, get in the word, pray. Spend time re-correcting your course.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how my heart can drift from You. Help me today re-correct my course. I need You to navigate my life.
AMEN
