No Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
John 14:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever disagreed with something someone said and challenged them by saying, ‘Who says?” “Who” it is that says something can make a huge difference. That is why today’s verse is so important. Not only is the content radical, but Jesus, the one who said it, is even more radical. He lived what He taught. If there was ever a person who exemplified not being troubled and trusting God the Father, it was Jesus. Even during His darkest hour, when He fell to the ground, overwhelmed at the thought of the crucifixion, Jesus trusted God. He asked God the Father to cancel the task but then qualified His request with, “Nevertheless Your will be done.” There are many things that can trouble us on any given day. Today resolve to trust God. If your heart starts to get anxious, if you begin to fret, if you feel your blood pressure rising, don’t let your heart be troubled. Trust in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, there are so many things going on. I find myself getting all worked up. Forgive me for the sin of worry. Help me trust You and not worry, doubt or fret. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hard hearts

TODAY’S VERSE
For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.
Matthew 13:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God wants His word to penetrate our very being. We are “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and this includes the way we comprehend truth. Jesus took the writing of Isaiah and applied it to the people of His day. He warned them that their “eyes” were not seeing the truth, their “ears” were not comprehending the truth, and their “hearts” were not sensing the implications of the truth. It was a result of hardening themselves toward God. Turning away from Him, they ended up ignoring God’s truth. How often have we done the same thing? But it is not too late. It is through self-reflection, repentance, and being purposeful in believing in God’s word, that we can turn this around. Today, might God help you, and I read the word, hear the word and most of all, believe the word with our whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for the times I have hardened my heart toward You. Help me today to see Your word, hear Your word, and most of all apply Your word to my life. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.
Psalms 27:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes the best way to overcome something is to replace it with the opposite. David decided to do this with fear. When he was surrounded by a mighty invading army, he had a choice to make. He could go with the normal response of fear, or he could replace fear with confidence in God’s love. It was the love that he had for God and the love he knew God had for him that allowed him to exercise confidence. The Bible says, “perfect love casts out fear.” Add to perfect love an all-powerful God, and you have a real confidence maker. Today, when stress comes into your life, when you are tempted to become overwhelmed, put your trust in God. Step out in faith and let confidence in Him take over.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, Father, that You are trustworthy. You are all-powerful and all-loving. I come to you today and lay my fears at Your feet. Give me the confidence to completely trust in You.
AMEN

Courage To Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
So your servant has found courage to pray to you.
1 Chronicles 17:25 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever needed the courage to pray? I have. Praying is all about courage. It is looking at your situation and saying, “I will exercise my faith and trust that God is all that He says He is and that He will answer my prayer.” Praying is courage because you are trusting God and giving up your right to try to do everything on your own. It is courageous because it would be easier to run and hide instead of facing your situation and trusting God. It is courage because you are full of doubts and fears, and yet you choose to exercise faith. The Apostle John wrote something that changes everything. He wrote, “Love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.” So today, when you are stuck, frustrated, afraid, or confused, focus on the perfect love God has for you and be like David. Find the courage to pray.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I believe, help my unbelief! Give me hope and faith, so when struggles come, I will stop and have the courage to pray to You.
AMEN

No fear

TODAY’S VERSE
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalms 23:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear can cripple us. It is an insidious cancer of the mind that eats away at our opportunities in life. Why is this? I am convinced that it is because we fear with our inner-child or some other traumatized part of ourselves. We have unresolved memories that need to be dwelt with by Christ. Now it is true that we are to have “child-like” faith, but nowhere are we taught to have child-like fear. This is an immature state-of-mine. All we see is the terror and fear that we had when we were more defenseless. Instead, when we come to our valley of the shadow of whatever it is we fear, we are to face our situations as mature adults looking through the eyes of Jesus. As an adult in Christ, we are not defenseless. We have all the power and love of Christ at our disposal. We can trust Him and step out in faith. Today, examine your fears. Ask Christ to come and comfort you like He did David. Ask Him to renew your mind and to heal that part of you that is in bondage. Remember, He is with you. He will comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know me. I come now and lay my fears at Your feet. Heal me, help me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Give Him your anxiety

TODAY’S VERSE
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often you hear the admonitions: “Don’t fear,” “Stop worrying” or “Quit being afraid.” These are helpful and can often deter us from pursuing a downward spiral of despair. But Peter had a better way. Instead of clipping back the weeds of fear and worry, Peter recommends that you pull all our anxiety out by the roots and bring them to Jesus. Not a few or some, all! And why can you do that? Peter says, “Because Jesus cares for you!” It is like the old hymn says, “Is there a heart over bound by sorrow? Is there a life weighed down by care? Come to the cross each burden bearing. All our anxiety leave it there. All your anxiety, all your care, bring to the mercy seat leave it there; never a burden He cannot bear, never a friend like Jesus.” Today, turn to Jesus. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know all about my worry and fear. I come to You now and cast all my anxiety at Your feet. Instead of taking it back, help me take Your love with me instead.
AMEN

Love, Not Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans?
Isaiah 51:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is the opposite of “love”? Our first answer would no doubt be “hate.” I use to think so. However, the longer I live, the more I believe “fear” is the opposite of love. True, if I am going to “act” the opposite of love, it would be to hate. But if I am going to “live” the opposite of love, it would be to live in fear! Fear keeps me from love’s reality. Fear tells me that the promises of love are nothing but lies. Fear chooses to doubt love’s sincerity. Worse, it doubts the lover. When I choose to believe fear, it means I have chosen not to believe God. He says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” And yet I act as if we are abandoned, all alone with God nowhere in sight. I need to start seeing God as God. How about you? Do you live in the reality of His love? He is the one who comforts you. He is the one who will never leave you. He is the one who will never stop loving you. Today, believe it, rejoice in it, live as if it is true. It is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I live much of my life in quiet desperation. Fear is always challenging my belief in Your love for me. Today, I renounce that fear. I rebuke it in Jesus’ name and choose to believe in Your love for me.
AMEN

Trust, Don’t Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have you tried to stop being afraid? Throughout the scriptures, God tells His people to “fear not.” Here though, Solomon tries a different approach. He says to “Trust in the Lord.” But not just a casual trust; he said to trust in the Lord with all your heart. It makes sense. If we are going to stop fearing, we must replace the fear with trust. That’s what Solomon meant. He said not to listen to our twisted logic, lies, and misconceptions that lead us to fear. Instead, we must trust God, submit our life to Him, lean on Him for sound direction, and He promises He will lead us. So today, don’t fear, instead, trust in the Lord. Bring your fears to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for being there. Today, instead of fearing or leaning to my understanding, I will put my trust in You.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Romans 12:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus warned us, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” Life is, well life. It comes with all the ups and downs. But we must remember what Jesus said next. He said, “But take heart because I have overcome the world.” What comfort. This is why Paul could write to the church in Rome to rejoice in their hope. But not just a half-hearted hope. He said a hope that is confident in its outcome. With this confidence, he wrote that we could also be “patient in trouble.” This kind of patience comes out of the awareness that God is there and that He cares. That is why Paul finishes his instructions with, “Keep on praying.” God is greater than our worries. Today, when troubles come, be confident in your hope. Be patient and talk to God about your problems. He will guide you. He will comfort, He will give you strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that when troubles come, I can come near to You. I can be confident in my hope that You care, and will guide me and help me. Help me today to be patient and bring every worry to You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Grumbling

TODAY’S VERSE
And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.
I Corinthians 10:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can be hard. Not everything works out the way we plan. That is why God created us with the capacity for resilience. By faith, we can return to joy from negative emotions. But returning to joy is a choice. Sadly, instead of joy, many times, we choose to grumble. Grumbling is different than simple negative emotions. Sadness, disappointment, even anger can be natural reactions to stressful situations, and with time spent in reflection, we can find our way back to joy. But grumbling is different. Grumbling, unchecked, becomes a bitter root that destroys faith, hope, and joy. It grows and festers, blaming, attacking, and rebelling against any and everything that would be cause for its pain. Grumbling eventually attacks the very sovereignty of God Himself. Be warned; grumbling is an offense to God. So today, check yourself. Are you letting anger and frustration get the best of you? Are you blaming and complaining? Are you spending more and more time grumbling? If so, heed the warning of Paul and stop. Repent, seek God’s forgiveness, recognize His profound love for you, and return to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my critical spirit. I repent of grumbling and complaining. Today, I will trust You and return to joy.
AMEN
