Sufficient Grace

Sufficient Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
“But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. – Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.”
Psalms 69:13,16

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
II Corinthians 12:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes it is hard to hang on. Tragic news, delayed answers, unfulfilled dreams, disappointing outcomes; it is easy to get discouraged. But God knows what we are going through. He invites us to share our cares with Him. We can call upon God’s great love, goodness and mercy to sustain us. Even Jesus knew what it was to throw Himself at the mercy of God. When facing Him eminent torturous death, He cried out to His father, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” And though He died, God’s grace never left Him. The Father took the cup of death from Him when He rose from the dead. What is it you need relief from? What has you down and discouraged? What is it that seems so overwhelming? Bring it to Jesus. Lay your burden at the foot of the cross and hear Jesus say to you, what He said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Might you find His grace sufficient for you today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that no matter what my circumstances, You promise that Your grace will be sufficient for me. Your wisdom will guide me. Your love will embrace me and draw me to Your side. I choose to live my life today in that reality. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Jesus Prays For You

TODAY’S VERSE
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32

“But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
I John 2:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is true. We do have a spiritual enemy. He does desire to destroy us. And yes we do sin. We do fall short of how God desires us to behave. But praise God that is not where today’s passage ends. In one of the most sincere verses in the Bible, Jesus turns to Simon Peter and says, “but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.” What an epic moment. God, in the very flesh of Jesus, calls Simon by name, looks him in the eye and tells him that he is praying for him so that his faith may not fail. And the great truth is that He does the same for us! John elaborates on this by saying that when we sin, when we are under spiritual attack, Jesus speaks to the father in our defense. Now we have a choice to make. We can be like Peter and ignore what Jesus said, or we can believe Him. Think about it. If we really believe that Jesus is praying for us, that He is interceding for us, it would change the way we life. Ours would be a life full of gratitude for what God has done. Peace, because of His presence. Courage because of our confidence we have in Him. And what does He ask for in return? Listen to what He said to Peter. “Strengthen your brothers.” Today, live conscious of God’s love and protection. Hear Jesus praying for you by name, and don’t let your faith fail. Instead, walk in victory! And with renewed strength and faith, go strengthen others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I am so glad that You are greater than the enemy of my soul. You are all powerful, all loving and all wise. Thank You for interceding for me with Your prayers of grace, mercy and forgiveness. Help me today, go strengthen others, with the same love You have for me.
AMEN

Renewed Relationship

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”
Psalms 66:16-20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Psalmist had some great news to share with all who will listen. He tells his own personal testimony of how he had sinned and separated himself from God. When he felt a yearning to cry out to the Lord for help, he knew he had to reestablish his relationship with God. But how?  By confessing his sin. Confessing his sin brought him back into a right relationship with God. It allowed him to talk to God, to share his needs, his feelings and his yearnings. And when he did, God listened! God did not withdraw his love from him. You see, our relationship with God is everything! It is a precious gift that God gives to all His children. A gift to be cherished, nurtured and protected. Today, get to know God better. Is there something between you and Him? Confess it, make it right. God loves you and is waiting for you. He will not ignore your prayers or withdraw His unfailing love from you. Get right with God today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love for me. I confess that I have sinned and have alienated myself from You. I bring my sins to You and ask You to forgive me and cleanse my heart. Renew my fellowship with You this very moment. I reject the lie of Satan that I am unclean or in anyway unacceptable to You. I accept Your forgiveness and unconditional love. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Doing Good

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. – Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.”
Titus 3:8,14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Doing good to others is very important to God. Paul uses strong language to communicate this point. He uses the words, “insist”, “devote” and “must” when talking about meeting the urgent needs of others. He writes that helping others will keep us from living an unproductive life. There are people all around us with urgent needs. Are we responding? Are we exemplifying the love of Christ to them? God wants us to learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others. Why not start today. Ask God to lead you to someone you can help.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to see the needs around me. Help me to view others through Your eyes of compassion. Lead me today to someone who needs my help. Give me the wisdom and strength to do all I can to meet their urgent need.
AMEN

Way of Escape

TODAY’S VERSE
“Israel is like a thief who feels shame only when he gets caught.”
Jeremiah 2:26

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
I Corinthians 10:13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How subtle sin can be. We begin to wander from the things of God and soon our life starts to take a different course. Most people that end in some sort of addiction or negative situation never intended to get there. They didn’t wake up one day and say, “I think I will go down a road that will totally ruin my life.” No, it was small little navigations that got them to the foreign shore. Likewise, in the life of a Christian we don’t wake up one day and say, “I will be apostate.” It starts out with missed opportunities of fellowship, lack of discipline in prayer, Bible study and mediation, weekdays between church services without Christian influence. Little by little we become more and more like the world around us and trade our Christian experience for a mask we wear on Sunday. Then we end up like the Israelites, we only feel shame and remorse if we get caught living like an unbeliever. What can we do? Thank God for the reality of what Paul shares in today’s passage. Paul reminds us that the temptations that you and I face every day are the same as everyone else’s, but God is faithful and will show us a way out. On every descent away from God there is a window of sanity. There is an opportunity to repent, to turn around, to come back to God. The prodigal son found it. Peter found it. God enables us to “come to our self,” to come to our senses and He does provide a way out. Today, if you find yourself far from where God wants you, hear His voice. He loves you; turn around, there is a way of escape.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so easy to wander from You. Forgive me. Help me to escape today from all that entraps me. Help me break away from all that has taken my heart from You. I come to You now, dear Lord. I want to follow You.
AMEN

Because of His Mercy

TODAY’S VERSE
“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”
Titus 3:3-7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul has written a beautiful description of what it is like to come to Christ as an adult. Paul had a lifetime of experience without Christ to look back on and constantly marveled at the grace of God to save him. And yet, as someone who came to Christ at a young age, I can say that today’s passage excites me just as much as it did Paul. I have found as I live my life as a Christian, that there are many times I experience my own foolishness and disobedience. I have been deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. Malice and envy have consumed me to where I have hated and been hated. And yet, with Paul, I can say that the kindness and love of God our Savior has appeared to me over and over again. You see, I strive to live under the Lordship of Christ. As I walk with Him, He continually convicts me and draws me back to Himself. Like Paul, the joy I experience in the fresh forgiveness of sins and renewed fellowship with Christ is, “not because of righteous things I have done but because of His mercy.” Like Paul, I am dependent on the renewal of the Holy Spirit to live my life. How about you? Do you experience the joy that comes from a daily walk with the living Christ? We were not made to receive Christ as a child and then stop our Christian experience. Receiving Christ is only the beginning. We were meant to grow in Christ to fully mature believers. Today, might we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the blessed realization of our sins forgiven, fellowshipping with Christ as the Lord of our life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for forgiving me of my sins. Thank you for the grace, mercy, peace and joy that you pour into my life. Help me to live for you each and every day with the realization of all you have done for me.
AMEN

Thinking Of Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”
Psalms 139:17-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What did you start your morning thinking about? Do you know what God thought about? He thought about you! How great is that? The God of all the universes is thinking about you. Not only thinking, but constantly thinking about you. David is saying that God’s thoughts toward him are precious and there are so many that he cannot even count them. What implications should this have on your day? What difference should knowing that God is very conscious of you and that He dearly loves you, make? Should it change the way we think? How about the way we feel? Should it affect our plans that we have? We are not talking about some religion here. We are talking about a God who wants a relationship with you; a vital, living, breathing, has-to-make-a-huge-difference-in-your-life, kind of relationship. He is thinking about you. Now why don’t you do the same? Spend some time today and the next few days thinking about Him. Read His word, meditate in His presence, talk to Him. When you do, it will only reinforce how precious His thoughts are about you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You are always thinking about me. Thank You for loving me. I confess that I don’t spend enough time thinking about You. I want to change that. Help me carve out the time I need to spend with You. Guide me in my meditation and prayers. Please help me know You better.
AMEN

Forgive Me Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Have you not brought this on yourselves by forsaking the LORD your God when he led you in the way?”
Jeremiah 2:17

“For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.”
Psalms 51:3-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when we need to agree with God and own up to our sinfulness. We can try to skirt around the issue, blame others, make excuses but at the end of the day, it is our sins that have separated us and God. Jeremiah tried to tell the Israelites this. They had wandered far from God by making unholy alliances with other nations and worshipping their Idols. God brought ruin to Israel and Jeremiah let them know that they brought the persecution on themselves. King David had his own sins to deal with and God sent him the Prophet Nathan to show him the error of his ways. David repented and agreed with God about the evil that he did. David, however, did not let everything end there. David knew God and that he could count on His compassion. That is why the rest of the passage is such an encouragement. In Psalms 51: 1-2, David cries out to God,
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.” He ends in verse seventeen writing, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” Make this your hearts’ theme today. Is there something between you and God? If so, come to God with a broken and repentant heart. Confess your sins to Him and He will blot them out of existence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I have often wandered far from you. I come to You today and ask You to have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. According to Your great compassion forgive me and cleanse me from all my sins. In Jesus Name I pray.
AMEN

God’s Glorious Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
“So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
Ephesians 2:7.8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you awoken to the fact yet that you are special to God? Has your soul been stirred by the realization that God has decided to love you no matter what you have done? Does it matter to you that God has chosen you to be His child? If not, perhaps you do not really understand the concept of “grace”. Grace is the word that Paul chose to elevate to a whole new meaning. We find it throughout his writings. In today’s passage, Paul is saying that God has lavished on you an incredible wealth of grace and kindness. The word “grace” Paul is referring to means “unmerited divine favor, approval, mercy, pardon and forgiveness.” The grace you receive from God is unmerited because nothing you have done, or ever could do, would merit the kind of love and forgiveness God has for you. This grace is also divine. It is divine because it is from God Himself. God Himself has chosen to extend His mercy, forgiveness, pardon and approval to you. Finally, God’s grace to you is a gift. There is nothing you could ever do that would allow you to take the credit for the amazing love and forgiveness God has for you. It is a gift from God Himself. Have you ever accepted His gift of grace? If not you can accept His gift of forgiveness and eternal life today. Confess your need to God and then simply thank Him for His death on the cross for the payment of your sins. Thank Him for the amazing love He has for you. Thank Him for your total forgiveness and the promise of an eternal home with Him forever. Thank Him for His amazing grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank you for the grace you have extended to me. I accept the mercy, forgiveness and love Your grace has provided for me today.  I praise You with all my heart. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Grace, Mercy and Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
“May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.”
II Timothy 1:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Could Paul possibly fit any more into one sentence? I don’t think there is a time I read this salutation that I don’t sense a deep stirring in my soul. It stops me dead in my tracks. I don’t need to go any further. It is all here. What else could we possibly need in life? Grace. God’s love, attention and salvation given to you freely, just because He wants to. Mercy. God’s forgiveness of your sins and provision for your life when there is no way in this world you deserve it. Peace. A peace with God and from God, deep in your heart, passing all your understanding. What a privilege, what a blessing, what an unbelievable gift from God. Will you receive it today? Will you agree with Paul? Will you request what God is freely giving, what Christ has so graciously provided? Today, may God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come now to freely receive what You so freely offer. I ask to be filled with Your grace, mercy and peace. Make me so conscious of these gifts that my heart overflows with praise and thanksgiving and my life reflects the joy of this reality. In Jesus name.
AMEN
