What Do You Want Him To Do?

TODAY’S VERSE
“She touched the fringe of his robe, for she thought, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.’”
Matthew 9:20-21
“Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’”
Matthew 20:30-32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Deep down inside you know there has to be more. There must be relief for your pain. Perhaps like the woman in today’s passage, you wonder, “What if I could just touch the fringe on His robe?” Like the two blind men on the side of the road, if you knew Jesus was coming, you would shout out to Him. In his book, The Church That Heals, Doug Murren writes, “We need the miraculous in the church today. Postmodern people are too broken to be fixed through simple human caregiving; they need to be pieced back together through the Supernatural healing of Jesus through His body the church.” What is it you need today? Where are you hurting? Today Jesus is asking you the same thing that He asked the blind men. “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I am sitting here today by the side of the road. I am in great need. I have shouted for mercy and you have heard me. Now, dear Lord, please hear my request. I simply come in faith to touch the hem of your garment and be healed. (Take a moment and share with Jesus what it is you need Him to do) Heal me I pray, in Jesus name.

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Colossians 3:13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Forgiveness is at the root of Christianity. It is the cornerstone of our beliefs. Christ came so we could be forgiven of all our sins. So is it any surprise that forgiveness is the basis of a healthy human existence? No one gets through life unscathed. All of us have to forgive someone at one time or another. And it can be very difficult. But we need to understand that the consequences of unforgiveness can be worst that the offence we need to forgive. Sickness, mental illness, stress, poor life choices can all be the result of a bitter unforgiving spirit.
Are you hurt, bitter, angry, gripped by the inability to forgive? Leanne Payne, in her book, Listening Prayer, says, “We do not forgive evil. We hate evil. But we find the grace to forgive those in the grip of evil, those who did the evil against us.” According to Neil Anderson in his book, Bondage Breaker, “Forgiveness is not forgetting what happened. Rather it is agreeing to live with the consequences of another persons wrongdoing, it is acknowledging the hurt and hate.” When you do, something deeply spiritual happens. God is able to suddenly help you see His deep love and forgiveness for you and His Holy Spirit gives you the ability to forgive, even when you won’t feel like it. He will help you make the choice to forgive. Set yourself free, choose to forgive today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgiving those that have hurt me is hard. Bring to my mind today, those that I need to forgive. Then help me, by your grace, to be honest about my hurt and hate and then to deliberately choose to forgive them, just as you deliberately died on the cross and forgave me. Set me free today from the bondage of unforgiveness.

Where Do You Go?

TODAY’S VERSE“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”Hebrews 4:16  TODAY’S THOUGHTWhere do you go when there is trouble? There are a lot of choices. We can run to our friends. Friends who listen and understand and help us when we need it are a true blessing. But not all of us have those kinds of friends. Sometimes it is easier for us to simply run away. This can be in many different forms. It can be procrastination, you know, where we will always get to some solution later. It could be an addiction, to simply anesthetize ourselves from the situation. It could be plain running full steam ahead, ignoring any problems focusing on achievement or materialism. There is a better way. Today’s scripture gives us another option. One that makes good sense. The author of Hebrews writes, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”You notice the verse doesn’t say to be timid. It says to “boldly” come to God. And what do we get when we find ourselves in His presence? Mercy and grace. Two of the most beautiful words in all of the Bible. Mercy is Not giving us what we deserve. Grace IS giving us what we DO NOT deserve. Thank God today that He has His mercy and grace available for you. TODAY’S PRAYERFather, thank you for your love for me. Thank you that you have promised me that I can come to you boldly to you, anytime – day or night. I can come boldly with my problems, my issues, my concerns and weaknesses. I come to you now dear Father. Hear my needs, hear the deep inner thoughts and concerns of my heart. Please make me conscious of your wonderful mercy and grace that you have promised to me. Focus On Believing

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more
than all we ask or imagine, according to his power
that is at work within us, to him be glory in the
church and in Christ Jesus throughout all
generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Which are you? The glass is half empty or the glass is
half full? When it comes to reading today’s verse it
really makes a difference. It is easy to let our “half
empty” attitude take a “glass is full and running over”
type of verse we have today and bring it right down.
What do you think when you read, “Him who is able to
do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”?
Bill Johnson, in his book, When Heaven Invades
Earth, writes, “Faith is not the absence of doubt. It
is the presence of belief.” So maybe today we
shouldn’t worry about our doubts. It’s okay to have
them. We all do. But for today, perhaps we
should just focus on believing what God has said. He
CAN do more than you and I can ever imagine.  Ask
God to help you believe this today. Give Him your
worries, fears and problems. Let Him control your life.
He is more than able!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today, instead of trying to rid myself of doubt, I
choose to believe You are able to do more than I can
ever imagine. Today I choose faith. Today I choose to
trust you. Today I choose your love for me and will live
today in this hope, that you are alive and are able. In
Jesus name.

Healed Healer

TODAY’S VERSE
“God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the term “wounded healer.” It was coined by Henri Nouwen, in his book by the same name. It conjures up the image of a person that comes along side of someone and shares “healing” with great understanding, compassion and empathy. Why? Because they have been in the same situation. They share the same wounds and scars. They know the other person’s pain. But Paul is going a step farther than just being a wounded healer. He is suggesting that we be a “healed healer!”  There is great empathy and compassion in being wounded and helping another with their wound, but besides empathy and compassion there is hope, health and wholeness offered by a healed healer. Paul states that God is the merciful father and the source of all comfort. As we come to Him and receive comfort we are to go and give this same comfort to others. As God heals us we share that healing. Should we be full of empathy? Yes, much so. Should we be compassionate? Yes, we of all people. Should we be patient, kind and understanding? If we are not, then we have forgotten that it was by His grace that we were healed. When God comforts us, we are grateful, humbled and full of joy. Make His comfort complete, by going and comfort others in the same way. May we never forget His mercy. May we never forget to treat others in the same way He has treated us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, God of all comfort. Thank you for the many times you have comforted me. Forgive me for not being as compassionate and patient as I should toward others. Forgive me for forgetting how much you have done for me. Help me today to extend that same comfort to others that you have given to me. Help me love those that you bring into my path today in the same way that you love me.

Do Over

TODAY’S VERSE
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalms 51: 1-4, 10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have you wanted to do something over? “If I could just take back what I said”. “If I could take the test again.” “If I had one more chance!” In Golf it is the “mulligan”. In Monopoly it is the “Get out of jail” card. On Wheel of Fortune it is the “free spin”
How many times do we need a do over?
King David needed one.
He had committed adultery resulting in the woman becoming pregnant. To make it worst, he had her husband killed! God sent Nathan the Prophet to David to rebuke him. David came under severe guilt and repented. Instead of running from God, he ran toward God. He openly admitted his sins and asked God for forgiveness. He experienced the love of God and complete forgiveness. His behavior is a wonderful example for us. He depended on God’s unfailing love and look at what he asked for. Mercy, blotting out of his sins and cleansing his heart . David agreed with God, that he was guilty. But he also agreed with God, that His love is unfailing. Next was the “do over”. David prayed, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit in me!” Why not start over like David, today. Make David’s prayer your own.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Righteous Father. I know that you know all about me. You know my wrong doing. I agree with you that I am guilty of so many things. I come now to confess that I need your total forgiveness for all that I have done. I need a “do over”. Please create in me a pure heart. Please renew a right spirit in me. I come to you to start afresh right now. In Jesus name!

Here Am I

TODAY’S VERSE
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”
Matthew 9:35-38

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’”
Isaiah 6:8

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Matthew 9 reads like a journal on supernatural power. Jesus heals a paralyzed man, raises a dead girl and gives sight to two men. He is exhausted feeling cramped in by all the throngs of people coming to him for help. Even after all this, Jesus goes from town to town teaching, preaching and healing every disease and sickness. But then there is a dramatic shift in strategy – Jesus sees all the people harassed, helpless and needing help and then tells His disciples to pray that God would send you and I to help Him do His work. Do you get it? Jesus didn’t come here to help and heal everyone by Himself. He came to redeem mankind, begin the process of helping mankind find the way, truth and life and then commissions you and I to take His power and ministry to the whole world. He has empowered you and I to aid Him in bringing His message of salvation and healing to a desperate world. The world where you and I live out our existence. Might our response be like Isaiah, “Here am I. Send me!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I thank you for your tireless mission of love that reached out to me. Today I hear your voice saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go?” How else can I respond to your love but say, “Lord Jesus, I want to join you in your work. Here am I. Send me!”
