Strength and Song

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is my strength and my song; He has given me victory. Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly. The strong right arm of the LORD has done glorious things!
Psalms 118:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the two words, “strength” and “song” together. They go hand in hand; His strength, our song. Here is the Psalmist. He had seen God’s strength move on his behalf, resulting in a great victory, and his heart burst out in singing. That’s because sometimes words alone are not enough. Our soul must express itself in melody. And yet, how many times do we fail to respond to all that God has done for us? Remember the ten lepers that Jesus healed? Only one came back to give thanks. Can you imagine? Forget a victory in battle. Their body, full of putrefying skin, had just been miraculously healed! Yet nine out of the ten that were healed did not even say, “Thanks.” And sadly, Jesus noticed. He asked the one who returned, “Where are the other nine?” Unfortunately, we do the same today. Where are our praising hearts? Where are the songs of our souls that lift to the heavens in adoration for all that He has done for us? We have no excuse. We have been so blessed. Today let’s raise our voices in praise for all His strength on our behalf.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, my heart sings in praise and adoration for all You have done for me. You are the Almighty and all-loving God who has saved me for all eternity. I thank You and praise Your Holy name.

An Open Door

TODAY’S VERSE
Open for me the gates where the righteous enter and I will go in and thank the Lord. These gates lead to the presence of the Lord, and the godly enter there.
Psalms 118:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
An open door can make all the difference in the world. How many times have you sought solutions, answers, or any form of direction, and nothing seems to appear? If only something would open up. And all the while, God is there bidding us come to Him and find the truth. However, it’s not enough to simply have an invitation or an open door. You must go in. The Psalmist understood this. He cried out to God to open the gates into His presence, and when God did, he entered. He entered into the presence of God and fellowshipped with Him. For us, every day is an opportunity to enter into the sweet presence of God. But it’s our choice. We can walk by or enter the door. Today, choose to stop and spend time with God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for opening the door for me to fellowship with You. Lead me into Your presence, so I might know You more.

Praise God

TODAY’S VERSE
With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I praise his holy name! With all my heart I praise the LORD! I will never forget how kind he has been. The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and protects us from death.
Psalms 103:1-4 (CEV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get wrapped up in our everyday situations that we take all that God is doing for granted. Our hearts start to wither at the lack of praise in our lives, and then we read a passage like today’s. You can sense how David’s heart was full of praise toward God for all His love and kindness. When I read, “With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I praise his holy name! With all my heart I praise the LORD!” it was like air to the lungs of a suffocating person. I could feel my soul gasp for the spiritual air, just like a person does when they are resuscitated. My heart longs to worship Him, to sit in His presence, and remember how kind He has been. To muse on all the forgiveness He has showered me with. To praise Him for healing and protecting me. It is not too late. Today, I can remember. Today, I can praise Him with all my heart. And so can you. Today, let us praise Him together.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I praise You for all Your kindness. How I praise You for forgiving me. How I praise You for Your protection. You are worthy of all my praise. I praise Your Holy name.

Object Of His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God. Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you – Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God.
Deuteronomy 10:14-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we just need to be reminded. We get so busy, so crazy, so wrapped up in our world, we forget; we forget about God. And then in His mercy, He lets us come across a passage like the one today, and it calls us back to what is real, back to Him, and His love for us. The author reminds us that even though God made all of the universe and everything in it, He chose you and me to be the object of His love. The God of gods, Lord of lords, the Great God, mighty and awesome, chose you and me to be the object of His love. To truly know this and believe it changes everything. No wonder the author writes, “Change your heart and stop being stubborn.” Today, turn to God, acknowledge Him as Lord of your life, and thank Him for all His love, grace, and mercy toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord God, Almighty. I thank You for choosing me to be an object of Your love. Forgive me for taking that for granted. I come to You now and surrender my life to You, for You are the mighty and awesome God, worthy of all my praise and devotion.

God Is In The Waiting

TODAY’S VERSE
I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. – Oh, my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalms 62:1-2,8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you wait? I have to admit that I do not always wait patiently. I do not always wait with faith. Often, when I have to wait, anger, worry, and fear are my companions. Not far behind are murmuring and complaining, waiting to have their say. Why is that? Why is waiting so hard? It is because I forget that it is God I am waiting on. Worse, I behave as if He doesn’t exist. David was different. He said that he waited quietly before God. Why? Because if David was going to be victorious, he knew it would be because of God. God was his rock, salvation, fortress, and refuge. David knew the peace that came from trusting God, and he implores us to do the same. He says, “Trust in God at all times. Pour out our hearts to Him.” What a difference this will make. As we pour out our concerns, worries, fears, doubts, all that is on our hearts to God, He will reassure us. He will guide us. He will give us the peace we need. Today, when the pressure is on, when you are under the gun, and you have to wait, try waiting quietly on God. He will be your rock. He will give you the victory.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my impatience. Forgive me for leaving You out of my life. Help me to remember that You love me and care about the details of my life. Today help me, as I wait patiently on You.

Jesus Prays For You

TODAY’S VERSE
Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.
Luke 22:31-32 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is true. We do have a spiritual enemy. He does desire to destroy us. And yes, we do sin. We do fall short of how God desires us to behave. But praise God, that is not where today’s passage ends. In one of the sincerest verses in the Bible, Jesus turns to Simon Peter and says, “But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.” What an epic moment. God, manifested in the very flesh of Jesus, calls Simon by name, looks him in the eye, and tells him that He is praying for him so that his faith may not fail. And the great truth is that He does the same for us! The Apostle John tells us that when we sin, when we are under spiritual attack, Jesus is our Advocate; that is, He speaks to God the Father in our defense. Now, we have a choice to make. We can ignore what Jesus says, or we can believe Him. Think about it. If we truly believe that Jesus is praying for us and interceding for us, it would change the way we live. Ours would be a life full of gratitude for what God has done. Peace, because of His presence. Courage, because of the confidence we have in Him. And what does He ask for in return? Listen to what He said to Peter. “Strengthen your brothers.” Today, live conscious of God’s love and protection. Hear Jesus praying for you by name, and don’t let your faith fail. Instead, walk in victory! And with renewed strength and faith, go strengthen others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I am so glad that You are greater than the enemy of my soul. You are all-powerful, all-loving, and all-wise. Thank You for interceding for me with Your prayers of grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Help me today, go strengthen others, with the same love You have for me.

Come

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Come is one of the most beautiful words in the Bible. It is an offer to participate in something. An invitation to move in a certain direction. It is only as good as the person requesting you to come and the object which you are moving toward. Today, God offers so much for you to partake of. He offers you the ultimate relationship with Himself and all that goes with it. What is it your soul desires? Come. What is it that you find missing in your life? Come. Are you weary? Come and find rest. Are you poor in Spirit? Come, take your inheritance. Is your heart thirsty? Come. Do you desire peace, joy, forgiveness, strength, hope, and love? Come. Today, hear the voice of the Lord. He is calling out to you. All you need to do is come.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You love me, and today I hear Your voice say, “Come.” So I come to You, dear Lord, with open arms and heart. I come to You in humility and anticipation to receive all that You have for me. In Jesus’ name.

Come Boldly To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.
Hebrews 10:21-22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the Old Testament, the High Priest offered sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of the sins of Israel. Each year, the High Priest would go through the ceremony, waiting upon God to see if indeed the sacrifice would be accepted. Then Jesus came. God sent His own Son, Jesus, to be the new Great High Priest. It was His blood, shed on the cross, that paid for our sins once and for all. No more annual ritual. It was finished when Christ died and rose again from the dead. Jesus opened the door for us to have a deep and personal relationship with God. In today’s passage, it says, “Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Have you ever stopped to consider what this really means? It means that you have a personal invitation from God to come right into His presence anytime that you want. Today, don’t just read His word. Don’t just pray. Today, come boldly to God’s throne and enjoy His presence. He has forgiven your sins and is waiting for you to come and know Him, fellowship with Him, worship Him, and live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your only son, Jesus, making it possible to forgive all my sins. Thank You for allowing me to come right into your presence. Help me, Lord, to know You better. Help me today to fully understand Your love for me. I pray this in Jesus’ name.

Tender Mercy

TODAY’S VERSE
 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
Isaiah 42:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How great it is that we can come before an Almighty and Holy God, totally unworthy, full of sin and rebellion, and yet experience such love, mercy, and forgiveness. David knew this. After getting a married woman pregnant and then purposely having her husband killed in battle, David realized how far he had wandered from God. He then comes to God in repentance, praying, “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” And that is precisely what he experienced. God was gracious to him. God forgave him and had mercy upon him. Isaiah knew about this kind of love as well. He paints a word picture illustrating God’s mercy toward us. He writes, “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” How gentle we would have to be, not to break a reed that was already bent? How careful would we have to be not to extinguish a smoldering wick that has already lost its flame? Isn’t it good to know that this is God’s attitude of mercy and grace toward us? Doesn’t it bring joy to your heart to know that you can take anything you have or have not done and confess it to Him and experience His tender mercy? Today, might the words of Jeremiah, in Lamentations 3:22-23, fill your heart with joy and peace. He wrote, “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to you today with all my sins and wrongdoings and give them to You. I thank You for Your tender mercy. I thank You for Your forgiveness and compassion toward me. God, I understand that it because of Your great love that I am not consumed. Truly, Your compassions never fail, they are new every morning.

No Shame

TODAY’S VERSE
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalm 51:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shame and guilt have so many of us in bondage. If it is not actual shame, it is the fear of being shamed. Yet feeling shameful is not the way of life God has chosen for us. David knew this. In today’s passage, David is appealing to God to forgive him. He came to Him with complete abandonment, crying out for mercy, asking God to cleanse him from all his sins. He was counting on God’s unfailing love and compassion. Likewise, we come to God through the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, asking that all our sins be forgiven. But do we actually believe that happens? Are we honestly forgiven? We need to get to that same place of trust that David was in. We need to know and experience the freedom that comes from the forgiveness of Christ. David accepted himself as clean. Will you? Live in His forgiveness today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I refuse to believe that You are ashamed of me or that you will abandon me because of my transgressions. I confess my sin and accept the death of Christ on the Cross as the substitution for my wrongdoings. Help me, Lord, rise, not in arrogance, but humility, knowing that I am cleansed and accepted by Your unconditional love. I choose to accept myself as forgiven and not ashamed. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
