Behold His Beauty

TODAY’S VERSE
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
Psalms 27:4 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember when I first saw my wife. People had told me about her. They said that we would be a great couple. One friend, trying to match us up, brought me a magazine article with her picture in it. That was it. I was smitten. I beheld her beauty. It was more so when I finally met her. While we were dating, I would catch myself looking at her. Still today, I am moved by her presence. This is more than a visual experience. It is emotional and existential. Why? Because I fell in love with her. Did you know that you can behold God in the same way? You can. God has given us an “inner eye,” that spiritual ability to connect with Him in a deep and personal way. David knew this, so he made it his most passionate desire. He wrote, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; to behold the beauty of the Lord.” If you can do that, everything else in life will fall in line. Today, stop and ask God to help you “behold His beauty.” Commit yourself to spend time in His presence, read His word, meditate on His goodness, and you will begin to fall in love with God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me begin to behold Your beauty. Help me know You, hear You, and fellowship with You. Help me trust You, commit myself to You, and love You. Lord, I know this is a process, but it is one I deeply desire. Start today, Father, and guide me into a deeper relationship with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Kingdom Of Heaven Is Near

TODAY’S VERSE
As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.
Matthew 10:7,8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus did the will of His Father. He told His disciples to do the same thing. He gives us the same commission. Jesus said it best, “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” Today you and I have been called to be about the same Father’s business. We have been asked to go to the world and cry, “The Kingdom of God is near!” We go in His power and do His will. We go in His love and heal the brokenhearted. We go in His provision and give to those in need. He has called us to do greater things. Today, let’s be like Jesus and let the Heavenly Father live and do His work through us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that Your Kingdom will be evident in my life today. Guide, lead, and show me what You would have me do. Give me the courage and faith to trust You for mighty things and to be obedient to what You ask of me. I pray that I will honor You in all that I do today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Still

TODAY’S VERSE
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Mark 4:39-41

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have never been on a stormy sea. I can only imagine how fierce the storm must have been. Here are seasoned fishermen and they were exceedingly afraid. Now it did not help that they were going across the lake. The deep part of the lake in the center regions was referred to as the “abyss.” Many frightening fishermen stories were based on journeying into the abyss. Add to that the fact that they left in the evening. It was dark! Finally, they were going to the “other side”. Everyone knew what the “other side” was. It was where that horrific demon processed person lived in the caves. Jesus knew where they were going and fell asleep on the back of the boat. The storm was fast, furious and fierce and they cried out to Jesus. What they saw happen next was shocking to them, and they had seen healing miracles! Jesus stood and commanded the sea to be still! And it did. Now I don’t know about storms on the sea, but I know about storms inside the “sea” of my mind. There is an abyss, there is an “other side” that frightens all of us. Dread, fear, worry, remorse, addictions, obsessive thinking; it seems that our ship is going to sink. When you feel all is lost, do what the disciples did — cry out to Jesus. Name your fear, tell Him exactly what it is that you dread; be specific with your doubts. This same Jesus that said to the sea “Be still” says to you, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, You calmed the sea; please calm my troubled heart with the peace only You can give. I take the horrific storms of my life and submit them to Your command. You say “peace be still” so I choose not to be troubled or afraid. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You Treasure?

TODAY’S VERSE
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get our priorities mixed up. It seems that people are judged by the money they earn and the things they acquire. Even criminals are honored if they have the “rich and famous” lifestyle. Fame and fortune are the goals that we aspire to. The issue isn’t whether “riches” are good or bad. The issue is that there is something more important than our materialism. There is a spiritual reality that we need to be concerned about. Jesus told us to store “spiritual” treasures in heaven. David wrote, “Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.” Why is this important? Because what we treasure is a reflection of what we are inside. If we treasure God, it is because He has the affection of our heart. If we boast in the Lord, it is because we are pleased with our relationship with Him. Do we want to have a deeper, more satisfying relationship with God? Then we need to seek Him like we would gold. Go after Him like a lost treasure. Make Him the most valuable part of our life and our heart will follow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to treasure You more than gold. I want to love You more than my possessions. Help me to know You. Help me to experience Your love. Help me love You more and more until I understand the valuable treasure Your love really is. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

My Heart, God’s Home

TODAY’S VERSE
The one thing I ask of the LORD, the thing I seek most, is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. – My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.’”
Psalms 27:4, 8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David was a shepherd boy who knew and loved God. Because of David’s heart toward God, God called David to be king of Israel. And a great king he was. But more than a king, David remained a man that sought after the heart of God. I can imagine David in his palace, a long way from the cold nights in the fields with the sheep, wishing he was back in the fields with the stars in the sky, playing his harp and worshiping God. David’s heart cried, “I want to live in the house of the Lord, delighting in Him!” And that is what he did. His heart did become a house of God. From his heart, he wrote the Psalms. What an offering of worship and praise to God. God would invite us to do the same. What is in your heart? Is it a home for God? Is it a Temple of praise and thanksgiving? If not, it can be. Like David, God comes to you and says, “Come and talk with me.” When He does, respond like David and say, “Lord, I am coming.” Today, you can be a “person after God’s own heart.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You have bid me come to You. I am coming even now. Like David, I want to be a person after Your own heart. I come today and ask You to take my heart and make it Your home. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Glorious Grace

TODAY’S VERSE
So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:7.8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you awoken to the fact yet that you are special to God? Has your soul been stirred by the realization that God has decided to love you no matter what you have done? Does it matter to you that God has chosen you to be His child? If not, perhaps you do not really understand the concept of “grace.” Grace is the word that Paul chose to elevate to a whole new meaning. We find it throughout his writings. In today’s passage, Paul says that God has lavished an incredible wealth of grace and kindness on you. The word “grace” Paul refers to means “unmerited divine favor, approval, mercy, pardon, and forgiveness.” The grace you receive from God is unmerited because nothing you have done, or ever could do, would merit the kind of love and forgiveness God has for you. This grace is also divine. It is divine because it is from God Himself. He has chosen to extend His mercy, forgiveness, pardon, and approval to you. Finally, God’s grace to you is a gift. There is nothing you could ever do that would allow you to take credit for the incredible love and forgiveness God has for you. It is a gift from God Himself. Have you ever accepted His gift of grace? If not, you can receive His gift of forgiveness and eternal life today. Confess your need to God and then thank Him for His death on the cross for the payment of your sins. Thank Him for the amazing love He has for you. Thank Him for your total forgiveness and the promise of an eternal home with Him forever. Thank Him for His amazing grace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank you for the grace you have extended to me. I accept the mercy, forgiveness, and love Your grace has provided for me today.
I praise You with all my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Who Influences You?

TODAY’S VERSE
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever noticed how deeply influenced we can be by those we spend time with? Reading books by the same author will profoundly influence you to their way of thinking. People who have been married for a long time become more and more alike. A student becomes much like their favorite teacher and a martial arts disciple, much like their sensei. Today’s passage tells us that those arresting Peter and John were astonished at how much influence Jesus had on these men. How about you? Can your family tell who you have been spending time with? Who do those at your work believe you are inspired by? Today, spend time with Jesus and let Him influence your mind and behavior. Let Christ teach you, guide you, and direct your path. When you do, others will be astonished and be able to tell you have been with Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to spend time with You. I want my life to be permeated with You so that others may recognize it and desire the same thing for their life. Teach me, guide me, mold me; I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What If You Believed?

TODAY’S VERSE
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Psalms 86:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What if you believed what David believed about God? How would it affect your life? David believed with all his heart that God was good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love. That belief caused him to be devoted to God, to serve and trust Him. Likewise, when David was in need, he did not hesitate to come to God and ask Him to hear him, answer him, protect him and save him. Today, meditate on what David knew to be true of God, that He is good, ready to forgive you, and full of unfailing love for you, and let it affect how you live.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God, help me live today with the full realization that You are good. That You are ready to forgive me and that You are full of unfailing love for me. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

What Do You See?

TODAY’S VERSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Guilt, shame, condemnation, these negative concepts fill the minds of so many Christians. They result from events, circumstances, and lies that have shaped us. How contrary to what God thinks of us. Paul wants us to see the truth, so he takes us back to the beginning before this world influenced us. Paul speaks to who you really are. He confirms that before the world was ever made, you were part of God’s plan. God created you holy and without any shame. Paul writes, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Can you imagine that? God received great pleasure in creating you. He sees you as His child, holy, without fault in His eyes. The question is, do you? Today, believe it. See yourself as you really are, God’s beloved child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that before You made the world, You loved me and chose me in Christ to be holy and without fault in Your eyes. Thank You for adopting me into Your family. Help me today to live in this wonderful spiritual reality.
AMEN

Real Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Psalms39:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where do you put your hope? Hope is that feeling of expectation. It is the anticipation of realizing our aspirations and desires come to fruition. But what makes David’s hope more than wishful thinking is the object of His hope. His hope was in the Lord God Jehovah! Because of who God is, David’s hope was a confident expectation, a firm assurance that God would do what He said He would. He could trust God’s love. He could believe His word. His hope was in God. So today, where can you put your hope? Put it in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for putting my hope in everything else but You. I can’t make it by myself. I need You. Today Lord, I put all my trust in You and Your love for me.
AMEN
