You Were Made For Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy.
Psalms 43:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were made for joy. That is because God created us to fellowship with Him, and it is in this relationship we find real lasting joy. The deep realization of how much He loves us and delights in us causes us to spend time with Him. Like David, we will run to the altar, not an altar of brick and mortar but the altar of our heart. In this “remaining in His love”, we have a joyful fellowship with God. Jesus said it this way, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” The secret is remaining in His love. So today, come to the altar of God, come in joyful anticipation. Come with the full realization that He loves you like the most loving Father in the universe would love their child. Rejoice, be glad, remain in His love, and let your joy in Him overflow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear loving Father, how I thank You for Your deep love for me. I come today to Your altar to worship and spend time with You. Today, help me remain in full awareness of Your love, so that my joy will be full.

The Perfect High Priest

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
Hebrews 7:25

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We sin, but Jesus saves. The Old Testament was set up on a sacrificial system whereby a Priest would offer a sacrifice on behalf of the people. Why? Because humankind is separated from God by our willful disobedience to what God declares is moral and just. Our disobedience is the same today, but God’s redeeming sacrificial system is different. Today we have Jesus. He was the ultimate High Priest—the one who, instead of offering a sheep or calf to God, offered Himself. The author of Hebrews writes, “He (Jesus) is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.” The result is today’s verse, “He is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.” Now, you can rejoice in the fact that all your sins are forgiven. You can praise God for Jesus, who is constantly interceding on your behalf, presenting you to God the Father as His loving, forgiven child. And that you are! Today, give thanks to Jesus, your perfect High Priest.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for being my High Priest interceding on my behalf. Thank You for Your spotless life and Your loving, perfect sacrifice on the Cross for me. Indeed You are the perfect High Priest. Halleluiah, what a Savior!

God’s Perfect Love

TODAY’S VERSE
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
I John 4:18 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear is hard to conquer. It puts us on high alert, and all of our focus is zeroed in on the object of our fear. Our stomach flitters, our blood pressure rises, we can feel the panic. Even when the alarm stops we obsess. It takes us, prisoner. What can we do? How do we find relief? We find it in His love. Not just any love, it is God’s perfect love. When you switch your focus from fear to His love for you, fear loses its power. Why? Because His love for you is relentless, unquenchable, unstoppable, never failing, never-ending and immeasurable. It is tender, full of mercy and kindness. It is forgiving and understanding. It is unconditional. He is the one who we run to, and our worries dissipate. Today, when fear comes, switch your focus. Turn from fear to God’s love. His love for You will cast out your fear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love. It never fails, so today, help me turn to it again and again. Every time fear comes, Lord, help me focus on You and Your perfect love for me. In Jesus’ name.

Receive His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Condemnation. It’s the sentence or punishment given to a person after having their due process in court. Paul had just finished writing, “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?” Then he answers that question by writing, “Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.” So because of Christ, Paul could say in today’s verse that our condemnation is gone. This is a tremendous truth and should give us inexplicable joy, and yet so many who name Christ as their Savior do not live as if it is true. Why is this? I believe it is because they are still living in their shame and dread. They haven’t been able to receive the unconditional love of God. That is why today’s verse is so important. You must read it and understand that this is the true definition of God’s unconditional love for you. You are loveable in His eyes. There is no condemnation! Gone, forgiven, forgotten! This is not something you have to earn, and it is not something you can lose. It is given to you freely by Jesus Himself. His love for you is unconditional, and Paul finishes Romans 8, assuring us that nothing, nothing, NOTHING can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. So today, read it, believe it; there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. Receive His love. You are a child of God!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You that you have no condemnation for me. I open my heart and receive Your unconditional love for me!

God

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember the first time I saw a Rembrandt painting in a museum. I was overwhelmed with the beauty, realism, and emotion that one person could make with a paintbrush. There is art, but this was so much more. I get the same feeling when I read today’s verse. How magnificent. In one short verse, Paul captures the essence of the triune Godhead. Everything that a human being would need for life is in this doxology. First, it is the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection assured us of His mercy, forgiveness, and eternal grace toward us. Second is the love of God. His love is infinite, much more than our finite minds could ever comprehend. Third is fellowship with the Holy Spirit. God has indwelt us with His Spirit, and Paul prays that we would fellowship with Him. This is where guidance, comfort, correction, peace, patience, and joy come from. So today, may you be conscious that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit are with you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Almighty God, may I be aware that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, Your own love, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with me this day, I pray.

Doing God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is a mystery. God has created us so we can partner with Him in His work. What a privilege; what a joy to be part of God’s very plan and movement in this world. That is what Jesus did. He acted out what the Heavenly Father orchestrated in Him and then told us how to do the same. He said, “Anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” We will do even greater things than Jesus did as we ask for things that bring glory to the Father. Today, ask God to glorify Himself in your life, and may you continue the ministry of Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in me, I pray that I would bring You glory in all that I do. I pray that You would live Your will in and through me. In Jesus’ name, I pray.

God’s Presence

You hide them in the shelter of your presence.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to fathom how magnificent God is. He is so great that when Elijah was at a mountain speaking to God, all God had to do was pass by, and there were a great wind, earthquake, and fire. Moses knew God perhaps more than any living man, so when he was ready to take the people into the wilderness, He begged God to be present with them. As an assurance, Moses asked God to show him His presence. God replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you.- But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” As well, David, a man whom the Bible says “was a man after God’s own heart,” comes to God amid all his trouble and says, “How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. You hide them in the shelter of your presence.” God’s presence, how mighty, how breathtaking, how personal, and how available. Come to God today. Join Elijah, Moses, and David and enjoy the shelter of God’s presence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, how I thank You for the death of Your Son, Jesus, so I can come boldly into Your presence and find all the love, peace, and joy I will ever need. Let me sense Your presence in my life today. In Jesus’ name.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
I John 1:8-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes it is so hard to deal with our inconsistencies. You know those times we stumble, do the things we shouldn’t, and then kick ourselves. Thank God there is a better way to handle our “wrongdoing.” The secret is to stop when we have a moment of sanity. When the Holy Spirit convicts us, we need to confess to God and acknowledge our wrongdoing. “Father, I was wrong, forgive me!” Next, we need to repent, that is, to make up our mind that with God’s grace we will stop. Finally, we need to renew our commitment and make steps toward correcting our behavior. Jude says that we can put our confidence in God’s help. He writes, “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” Yes, we have sinned, but God has forgiven and cleansed us from all wrongdoing. Today, accept God’s grace and forgiveness and live in victory and freedom.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for those sins that so easily trip me up. I confess my wrongdoing. Help me, Lord. Keep me from falling. Cleanse my heart as I renew my commitment to You.

God Loves Me

TODAY’S VERSE
This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
I John 4:10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is one thing to “say” you love someone. It is another to really love them. The real language of love is not found in some poetic phrases. The language of love is in our actions. Love needs to be a verb. So when I say, “God loves you!” I am referring to much more than some simple sentiment. I am referring to the fact that you are important to God. You are special to Him. Paul shares that “God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” When we are at our worst, when we are farthest from Him, His love for us is still there. God sent Jesus to be the sacrifice for our sinfulness, so we could have a legitimate relationship with Him. So we could experience His love and begin to express our love back to Him. Have you received His love? Have you made it personal? If not, acknowledge the fact that He loves you today. Thank Him for providing a way for you to come before His Holiness, cleansed, forgiven, and as His child. Jesus said it best, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, God gave the right to become children of God.” Christmas is a special time when we reflect on the fact that Christ came to earth to sacrifice Himself for us. If you believe that He died on the cross for you, then receive His death as a substitute for you by acknowledging it as a fact and thanking Him for it today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have heard the words, “God loves me” before. Today I want to make it personal. I want You to know how thankful I am that You sent Jesus to be my substitute, so I could come before You, holy and blameless. So that I could be “born again” as Your child. Today, I receive these words into my heart, “God loves me!” Help me to really understand it and all the joy that it brings. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

The Christ who came to earth in the form of a baby became a man who became our Savior. May you truly know the love of God this Christmas day.

Who is jesus?

TODAY’S VERSE
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who do you think Christ was? Who do you think He is today? It matters what you think. Was He just a good moral teacher? Was He someone who did miracles back then, but not today? Is He something aloof, an object of our ritualistic worship, but not someone I can really relate to? Peter told the real story. He started as a fisherman leaving his nets behind to follow this promising teacher. It wasn’t long before He was overwhelmed by all that was going on. Jesus had incredible teachings that impressed even His biggest skeptics. No one taught with such authority. But more than the teachings were the miracles. People were rising from the dead. Blind men were seeing. The lame were walking. And the demons, they were fleeing at the mention of His name. Then there was His moral authority. No one had ever loved others the way He did. No one had ever taught about love in the way He did. Peter couldn’t help it. He had to say, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Me? I say He is my Lord and Savior, ruler of my life, redeemer of my soul, and the lover of my very being. He is my dear Jesus. Who is He to you?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for all You are. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for Your salvation. You truly are the Christ, the Son of the living God and I praise and worship You.
