His Love Makes Us Love

TODAY’S VERSE
For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
Psalms 103:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you considered how much God loves you? Knowing and experiencing His compassion changes us. It is the foundation from which we mature. It is the frame of reference from which we draw compassion. Knowing God’s love helps us love others. We can be patient with others when we understand what David means when he writes, “He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.” We can forgive others when we believe, “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Knowing and experiencing God’s love for us empowers us to love more. Oh, to know the riches of His mercy, the depths of His grace, and the magnificence of His love. These are the pearls of great price. Today, behold the wonder of His compassion and contemplate His goodness toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I thank You for Your unfailing love toward me. Thank You for not punishing me for my sins or dealing harshly with me as I deserve. How I praise You for removing my sins as far from me as the east is from the west. Thank You for Jesus, my Savior. Help me love others in the same way. In His name, I pray.
AMEN

More

TODAY’S VERSE
May God give you more and more grace and peace.
I Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wanted more of something? The pizza was so good, just one more piece. The alarm goes off, and you think just 15 more minutes. You fall in love, and want to spend more time with that special person. More is a natural response. And yet, for some of us as children, we heard, “Don’t ask.” “Quit begging.” “Don’t bother me.” “That’s enough.” So deep down, the thought of more is perceived as being greedy, selfish, or inappropriate. True, more of some things is not good for you. Gluttony, addictions, lust are forms of “more” out of control. But when it comes to spiritual things, our Father wants us to have more. Paul wanted us to know the love of God more and more. Peter is writing in today’s verse that God wants to give us more and more of His grace and peace. So how do you get more? What were we taught? You have to ask for it. Today, ask God to give you more. More love, more grace, more peace, and more awareness of Himself. You can ask for more of these; He wants you to have them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I just don’t need more; I want more. More awareness of Your love, grace, peace, and joy in my life. I want more, Lord! I ask in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Delights In You

TODAY’S VERSE
No, the LORD’s delight is in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Psalms 147:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What does God delight in? He delights in you! When my boys were born and started growing up, it was apparent that they were human. They had all the traits, quirks, and characteristics that any average child would have. But what delight they gave me. There was no surprise. I knew what to expect in a child. I knew their tendencies, accepted their idiosyncrasies, and loved them. They gave me happiness. How much more God takes pleasure in you. He knows exactly who He created. You are no surprise to Him. He knows all about you and delights in you. And He appreciates when you know Him, trust and hope in Him. He is your Father and delights in you. Today, delight in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that I am Your delight. Help me today to delight in You.
AMEN

God’s Perfect Love

TODAY’S VERSE
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
I John 4:18 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear is hard to conquer. It puts us on high alert, and all of our focus is zeroed in on the object of our fear. Our stomach flitters, our blood pressure rises, we can feel the panic. Even when the alarm stops we obsess. It takes us, prisoner. What can we do? How do we find relief? We find it in His love. Not just any love, it is God’s perfect love. When you switch your focus from fear to His love for you, fear loses its power. Why? Because His love for you is relentless, unquenchable, unstoppable, never failing, never-ending and immeasurable. It is tender, full of mercy and kindness. It is forgiving and understanding. It is unconditional. He is the one who we run to, and our worries dissipate. Today, when fear comes, switch your focus. Turn from fear to God’s love. His love for You will cast out your fear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your love. It never fails, so today, help me turn to it again and again. Every time fear comes, Lord, help me focus on You and Your perfect love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Kindness

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?
Romans 2:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Can you imagine if God dealt with us according to our behavior? Who would stand a chance? And yet, so many use the wrath of God to motivate us into submission and obedience. Fear works, but it doesn’t produce the kind of response God is looking for. He created us to be objects of His love and grace. So Paul asks a very specific question. He asks, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?” Paul was disturbed, wondering, how could anyone know the mercy and grace of God and not be motivated to live for Him? Paul continues with another question, “Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” It is His grace, His kindness, His tolerance, and patience that motivates us to turn from our sin and follow Him. Today, take time to notice. Take time to consider how kind and patient God has been toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for not focusing on how kind, tolerant, and patient You have been with me. Help me, Lord, understand Your great kindness toward me so I can turn from my sin and follow You.
AMEN

Word And Love

TODAY’S VERSE
While knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.
1 Corinthians 8:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We put such an emphasis on Bible knowledge. It is important to have correct doctrine. It is imperative that we have correct interpretations. It is a must that we learn as much as we can about the Bible. But Bible knowledge without love is nothing more than Phariseeism. The word becomes a tool instead of a life force. Without love, the word becomes facts instead of application. Today, know the word. Learn it, study it, memorize it, but more importantly, do it with love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to know Your word. Help me to live it with love.
AMEN

Real Love

TODAY’S VERSE
If I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
I Corinthians 13:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God calls us to a higher kind of love. Not some sentimental romantic type of love, but a practical “walk your talk” kind of love. Paul defined it in his letter to the Corinthians when he wrote, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” The Apostle John goes further and explains how living out our love in practical ways toward each other is the real proof that we know God. He wrote, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” Today, commit yourself to know God by doing His will, love those around you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me follow You by loving the way You would have me love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God illuminated Paul’s heart when he wrote these prophetic words. We need love. But the love we find in this world is not enough. That is why Paul shared the prayer that we would have the power to really grasp God’s love. Beth Moore in her book, Praying God’s Word, writes, “We are not wrong to think we desperately need to be loved. We do. But we are wrong to think we can make anyone love us the way we need to be loved. Our need does not constitute anyone else’s call but God’s.” Paul has thrown down the challenge. It will take a lifetime to try and accomplish, but can you imagine the journey? The thrill? The joy in even beginning to see the width, length, height, and depth of God’s love? Today, ask Jesus Himself to accompany you on such a glorious adventure of discovery.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, please give me the power and help me to understand how wide, long, high, and deep the Heavenly Father’s love for me really is.
AMEN

Tongue

TODAY’S VERSE
Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips. Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. Don’t let me share in the delicacies of those who do wrong.
Psalm 141:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Controlling what we say. It is often more challenging than we think. We can preplan, prepare, practice, and still, in the heat of the temptation, we can often say things that we shouldn’t. How much could be prevented if we heeded today’s verse and asked the Lord to take control of our tongue! Saving face, getting revenge, one-upping someone, making up for what we think are inadequacies all start with the mouth. James knew all about the tongue. He wrote, “For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. – And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.” Today, make it a matter of prayer. Dedicate your tongue to God and ask Him to help you choose all the words that will come out of your mouth wisely.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to guard my tongue. I dedicate it to You and ask that all the words that come out of my mouth today would be for good and to Your glory.
AMEN

Encouragement

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.
I Thessalonians 5:11 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Ever been so thirsty you felt parched? You couldn’t wait until you had a glass of water. When you finally took a drink, it was heavenly, refreshing, and brought new life to your body. That is what encouragement does. It is like a cooling salve on a bad burn. A refreshing breeze on a hot, humid day. The laughter of children when in an anxious state. There is something about a person who is with you when all seems lost. Their presence speaks volumes. They comfort you with their empathy in what they say and do. We need encouragement, and God commands us to encourage one another. In fact, the only thing I can think of that is wrong with encouragement is that there isn’t enough! Today, be God’s messenger of hope, love, peace, and joy. People all around you are thirsty for encouragement. Take your love and fill their cup!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for Your encouragement. Help me to be selfless and encourage others in the way You have encouraged me.
AMEN
