Every thought

TODAY’S VERSE
We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
II Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to let our thoughts get away from us. Worry, fear, anger, a whole host of emotions can send our thoughts into a downward spiral. Before you know it, we are heading toward dire consequences. Instead, we need to make a habit of bringing our thoughts to Christ. Paul knew all about this. Imagine waking up in prison day after day for doing no moral wrong. How about being shipwrecked on an island or suffering excruciating wounds from being beaten within an inch of your life. Day after day, Paul was cold, hungry, tired, and falsely accused. And yet, through all of this, he knew how to discipline his thinking. Paul knew that he was in a spiritual battle, and he came to God and renewed his mind every day! He said it this way, “We live in the world, but we do not fight in the same way the world fights. We fight with weapons that are different from those the world uses. Our weapons have power from God that can destroy the enemy’s strong places. We destroy people’s arguments and every proud thing that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.” Today, don’t let your thoughts get away from you. Capture those thoughts and emotions that will take you down the wrong path and bring them to Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I ask You to fill my mind with Your truth. I submit my thinking to You and Your word. Help me capture every rogue thought and make it obey You. I give You my mind; guide me I pray.
AMEN

Patience

TODAY’S VERSE
Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Patience can be very difficult to come by, but what a powerful attribute to have. Think of all that could be done if we acted with patience instead of haste and pressure. Think of all the aggravation that could have been avoided if we waited just a little longer. Think of all the headache and tension that could have been obsolete had we only had patience. Patience is a sign of God’s presence in our life. It is the result of His Spirit living in us, strengthening us with His might! Today, when difficulties come, when plans get foiled, or someone else’s urgency becomes our emergency, let us ask for patience. Let us cry out to God for strength and endurance, and by His grace, patience will be a fruit of the Spirit that is alive in us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. Thank You for the strength and endurance that You give me. I pray that it will produce the patience that I need.
AMEN

No fear

TODAY’S VERSE
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalms 23:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear can cripple us. It is an insidious cancer of the mind that eats away at our opportunities in life. Why is this? I am convinced that it is because we fear with our inner-child or some other traumatized part of ourselves. We have unresolved memories that need to be dwelt with by Christ. Now it is true that we are to have “child-like” faith, but nowhere are we taught to have child-like fear. This is an immature state-of-mine. All we see is the terror and fear that we had when we were more defenseless. Instead, when we come to our valley of the shadow of whatever it is we fear, we are to face our situations as mature adults looking through the eyes of Jesus. As an adult in Christ, we are not defenseless. We have all the power and love of Christ at our disposal. We can trust Him and step out in faith. Today, examine your fears. Ask Christ to come and comfort you like He did David. Ask Him to renew your mind and to heal that part of you that is in bondage. Remember, He is with you. He will comfort you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know me. I come now and lay my fears at Your feet. Heal me, help me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Extend Grace To Others

TODAY’S VERSE
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.
Galatians 6:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all do wrong and need help sometimes. But why is it, those of us who are forgiven so much, can be so stubborn when it comes to understanding someone else’s sin? Where is the restoration? Where is the grace? Paul sees this lack of love in the church and instructs us to restore a person by being gentle and humble. In the classic book, “Truefaced” the authors write, “One of the greatest gifts we can offer another person is a safe place to fail.” How true is that? Indeed, that is what Christ has done for us. The authors also write, “Grace frees Christians to see others as saints who sin, rather than sinners striving to be saints.” Yes, we should praise God that He has saved us and forgiven us of all our sins, but we should also remember that we are saved by “grace” and are called to live by grace as well. Today, let us offer grace to those that need it in the same proportion that God has given it to us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your grace. Help me to be gentle and humble and extend that same grace to those around me.
AMEN

Pour Out Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him.
Psalms 62:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Ever have anyone tell you, “I can’t help you if you don’t tell me about it.” You know, you are distressed, you come to a friend, and they can tell something is wrong. They ask you, “What is it?” and you say, “Nothing.” They want to help but can’t because you won’t engage with them. You won’t share what is bothering you. Isn’t that how we treat God? Sure we believe “in” Him, we just don’t believe Him. He says that He is all-loving and all-powerful. He says that we should cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. He promised that He would never leave us or forsake us. Even if our mother forsakes us, He says, “I will never forget you.” And yet we don’t take the time to share our concerns with Him. He is not our confidant. We don’t “pour out our heart to Him.” Isn’t it time to change? Doesn’t your heart long for a close, loving relationship with God? You can have it. It’s yours if you want it. Today, begin a new fresh relationship with God. Pour out your heart To God, He is waiting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I hurry through life and don’t take the time to pour out my heart to You. I do so much on my own. But Lord, I want that to change. I long for a deeper walk with You. Help me today to trust You more. Help me sense Your loving presence and share with You from the depths of my heart.
AMEN

Temptation

TODAY’S VERSE
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!
Matthew 26:41 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If ever we needed Jesus’ admonition, we need it today. Television, internet, media – all around us are temptations ready to take us out spiritually. Peter said it this way, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” So what do we do? Jesus said that we must live “in” the world, but we are not to be “of” the world. That is why He told us to watch and pray; He didn’t want us to fall into temptations. When Jesus said, “watch and pray,” He wasn’t suggesting a casual Christianity. He was biding us to follow Him in a life of vigilant spiritual discipline involving devotion, prayer, and consecration. Today, keep alert toward the many temptations surrounding you. Keep your eyes and heart on Jesus. Pray, spend time with God, and confess your sin when needed. Praise God; He is faithful, He is forgiving. He will give you all you need to live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how I want to live for You, but I can’t do it by myself. Because of the precious blood of You son, my Lord Jesus, forgive me, cleanse me, and empower me to live for You.
AMEN

Trust, Don’t Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have you tried to stop being afraid? Throughout the scriptures, God tells His people to “fear not.” Here though, Solomon tries a different approach. He says to “Trust in the Lord.” But not just a casual trust; he said to trust in the Lord with all your heart. It makes sense. If we are going to stop fearing, we must replace the fear with trust. That’s what Solomon meant. He said not to listen to our twisted logic, lies, and misconceptions that lead us to fear. Instead, we must trust God, submit our life to Him, lean on Him for sound direction, and He promises He will lead us. So today, don’t fear, instead, trust in the Lord. Bring your fears to Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for being there. Today, instead of fearing or leaning to my understanding, I will put my trust in You.
AMEN

Do You Know God?

TODAY’S VERSE
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
At first glance, you can read today’s passage and think that the author is asking a rhetorical question. Who hasn’t heard that the Lord God of the Universe is the everlasting God, creator of the ends of the earth? If you were going to believe in a God, wouldn’t you want an all-powerful one? No doubt, you would desire God to be the everlasting creator who never tires and has an understanding that is beyond our comprehension. But to be complete in your belief of God, you would need to understand that God is also compassionate to those in need, giving strength to the weary and helping those that are weak. It is this mighty, merciful God that Isaiah is asking about. He asks, “Do you not know? Have you not heard?” Otherwise, have you let the reality of this magnificent God change your life? It is by hoping in the LORD that loves you, that you will renew your strength. Trusting the Almighty God who never tires of being merciful to you will cause you to soar on wings like eagles. Isaiah assures, you will run and not grow weary; you will walk and not be faint. Today put your faith and trust in our everlasting God, the creator of the earth, the God who never tires of being compassionate toward you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, how I praise You for who You are. You are everlasting, the creator of the earth. Thank You for caring for me and giving me strength.
AMEN

Heal Me

TODAY’S VERSE
Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.
Mark 2:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus was in town. This group of men knew what that meant. They ran and got their paralyzed friend put him on a cot and came to the Savior. They heard that He could heal the sick, so they stepped out in faith. When they got to the house where Jesus was, they couldn’t get in. Undaunted, they cut a hole in the roof and lowered their friend into the room where Jesus was. Jesus was amazed at their faith, so He said, “My child, your sins are forgiven?” Why did He say that? Didn’t Jesus see that the man was paralyzed? Of course, He did. But Jesus saw another kind of paralysis, the kind that cripples the soul. Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven” because that is His first priority. In order to prove He could forgive sins, Jesus also said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” Today, what has you paralyzed? Is it fear, anger, or debt? Perhaps it’s a crippling sin. Whatever it is, bring it to Jesus. Come to Him by faith and let Him minister to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, You know the needs I have. I come to You and ask for supernatural power to work in me. Help me, heal me, make me whole.
AMEN

Real Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:9-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When Paul decided to write about love, he didn’t mix words. He starts by telling us to quit being phony and really love each other. We are to hate what is wrong and do good. We are to have a real genuine affection for each other and not fake it. We are to delight in honoring each other! This kind of love Paul is writing about is not lazy. It serves others. And what is love without encouragement? Paul, who knew real hardships, modeled encouraging love and asked us to do the same. Love helps us to rejoice in hope, be patient in trouble, and pray when things aren’t going our way. Finally, when those we are supposed to love are in need, then love insists that we help them. Love is eager to practice hospitality. Today, let’s commit ourselves to real love, the love Paul is writing about. Let us love those around us the way Christ would love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me love the way You love. Help me love with action, not just words.
AMEN
