How Do You Wait?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him”
Psalms 37:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Waiting can be hard, especially when we find ourselves in difficult situations. The trouble is what we add to waiting. It is wait plus fretting; wait plus stewing; wait plus conniving; wait plus brooding. Instead David adds God to the waiting. He says to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. That means if we are going to add anything to waiting it should be wait plus faith; wait plus prayer; wait plus hope; wait plus the peace that passes all understanding. Is there something that you are having trouble waiting on? Are you fretting, stewing, conniving or brooding? If so, give it over to Jesus. Be still before Him and wait in faith, hope and peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so hard to wait. Forgive me for fretting, stewing, conniving and brooding. Help me instead, to trust you. I surrender my situation to you. Today I will wait in faith, hope and peace. AMEN

PEACE

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peace. It has many meanings. I heard a story of a man that commissioned a contest to see who could best paint a picture of peace. He would hang the entries in a gallery and let the townspeople vote on which picture best portrayed it. Beautiful painted sceneries with sunsets and ocean scenes draped across the gallery walls. Majestic mountains with beautiful colors were brought to the gallery and hung. Other painters submitted paintings of birds flying in the air, old people with peaceful smiles on their faces and children playing. People were hard pressed to decide which was more peaceful. Finally the day before voting a last entry was being hung. As people saw it, they didn’t quite understand why it was submitted. It was a picture of a turbulent river with a violent current smashing against the river canyon walls. Dark ominous clouds were overhead. Felled trees littered the river’s bank and the wind was bending a tree in the foreground. Then someone pointed out in the branch of the tree was a little bird. The bird was whistling, enjoying the spray of the river below. Not worried about the river the bird was in perfect peace. When the vote was finished everyone agreed that that was the most peaceful picture. Peace during peaceful times is one thing. Peace during life’s troubled, stormy times is another. May God keep us at perfect peace today, as our mind trusts in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray for your peace to fill my heart today. Thank you for your unfailing love for me. Thank you for being my Father. I choose to fix my thoughts on you today, to trust you and commit every worry into your capable hands.
AMEN

Do Over

TODAY’S VERSE
“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalms 51: 1-4, 10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have you wanted to do something over? “If I could just take back what I said”. “If I could take the test again.” “If I had one more chance!” In Golf it is the “mulligan”. In Monopoly it is the “Get out of jail” card. On Wheel of Fortune it is the “free spin”
How many times do we need a do over?
King David needed one.
He had committed adultery resulting in the woman becoming pregnant. To make it worst, he had her husband killed! God sent Nathan the Prophet to David to rebuke him. David came under severe guilt and repented. Instead of running from God, he ran toward God. He openly admitted his sins and asked God for forgiveness. He experienced the love of God and complete forgiveness. His behavior is a wonderful example for us. He depended on God’s unfailing love and look at what he asked for. Mercy, blotting out of his sins and cleansing his heart . David agreed with God, that he was guilty. But he also agreed with God, that His love is unfailing. Next was the “do over”. David prayed, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit in me!” Why not start over like David, today. Make David’s prayer your own.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Righteous Father. I know that you know all about me. You know my wrong doing. I agree with you that I am guilty of so many things. I come now to confess that I need your total forgiveness for all that I have done. I need a “do over”. Please create in me a pure heart. Please renew a right spirit in me. I come to you to start afresh right now. In Jesus name!
AMEN

What Have You Asked For?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
John 16:24

“You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
James 4:2-3

TODAY’S MESSAGE
I’m not sure which is sadder? A person who never gets a chance to have what he or she desires or a person who had all the chances in the world and never took one? Here we are with a God who is all wise, all powerful and all loving. We also have Jesus Himself saying, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” And yet what do we do? What have we asked for lately?
Jesus is not talking about a magic lamp that we rub three times and make wishes for our own pleasure. We aren’t to ask God for things with wrong motives. Instead Jesus is suggesting that we have a fellowship with His Father which is so rich and deep, that we end up aligning our will with His. When we know His will, it will bring us deep joy and great pleasure to ask God for it. We will be about the business of making His will done on earth as it is in Heaven. What at home, work or in your church can you ask God for? What can you ask for your family, friends and co-workers that would be in alignment with His will? Pray that God would give you insight into His will and a Holy boldness to ask for it. When you do, you will receive and your joy will be complete.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I ask you to help me know what to pray for. Help me to know your will for my life and for my family. Help me to know how to pray for my friends and co-workers. Help me pray about my relationships, career and ministry. Speak to my heart and then give me the faith to ask. Help me not to be like the person who had so many chances in life but never took one. Help me to ask you for something special today!
AMEN

He Will Intercede

TODAY’S VERSE
“Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”
Hebrews 7:25

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”
Romans 8:26

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Have you ever had anyone intercede for you? You know when you are in situation and you need something and because of the circumstances someone else is a better choice to represent your needs. Perhaps a lawyer, customer service representative, a trusted friend or medical professional? When they are qualified and earnest it is a beautiful thing to watch. When they are inept or insincere, watch out!
Now here we are, trying to live our life, one person amongst billions of others. We have great needs, not only in this life but in the life ahead. We need help but who will help us? Who can understand our plight? Who would care enough for us to do something? Who would have the power to effect any change? Thank God the Father for His son Jesus and His Holy Spirit. They are the ones interceding for us. Jesus intercedes for our sins with His own blood and the Holy Spirit intercedes for our weaknesses and needs in this life. Even when we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit passionately groans and pleads our case to God the Father. What compassion, what mercy. Even now confess to Jesus your deepest needs. Come to Him with your hidden secrets, your most perplexing problems, your most heinous sins. He will intercede, and when He does He will bring peace and deep joy to your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to you as I am, desperate and needy for your touch. I need your help. You know my situation. I need you and your Holy Spirit to intercede for me to God the father. To Him, who can do all things. To Him, who is all love and all power. Dear Jesus, I give you my life. I give you today. Guide me, direct me, fill me with your peace and power. I pray this in your name, Lord Jesus.
AMEN

Wait On The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
Psalms 27:14

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes you just have to wait. But it is so hard. I had planted a whole new batch of elephant ears and caladiums in a shady path I made in the woods behind my house. I watered them faithfully and after a couple weeks I started to walk around to see if they were beginning to sprout. I couldn’t find any sign of life. Day after day, I looked and nothing. I was starting to become angry. I keep asking myself, “Why haven’t they broken ground yet?” Then anger turned to fear. “What if they were dead?” I thought. Finally one day, when I was walking the path to see if any of the plants had sprouted up, a thought occurred to me. “None of my looking was going to make the plant sprout one second sooner than God had planned.” I laughed and though how much that was just like life. We don’t like to wait. We want, what we want, and we want it now! But we refuse to realize that waiting is more than waiting. So often waiting is also becoming more understanding. Waiting is learning to be empathic. Waiting is gaining knowledge or building character. Waiting can often lead to situations where God gets all the Glory. The plants did come up, each in their own time. They were beautiful. Likewise, so will our lives, as we are strong, take heart and wait on the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I find it so hard to wait. I really want to trust you but I need your help. Help me today Father to be strong, to take heart and to wait on you.
AMEN

A Sense of Blessing and Well Being

TODAY’S VERSE
“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.”
Psalm 27:10

TODAY’S MESSAGE
At first glimpse this verse may not seem like it has much depth. But if we really understand its meaning it can change our lives. In his book, Experiencing Healing Prayer, Rick Richardson shares, “From our mother we get our sense of being and well being. From our father we get a sense of blessing.” The trouble is that none of us go through our childhood unscathed. No parent can completely meet all our needs. If our mother or father is controlling, absent, abusive, distant or exhibits any number of other negative traits it can result in a struggle with affirmation and self esteem. But what can we do? Do we have to be a victim to a fallen world? Today’s verse gives us the answer. “Even if our father and mother abandon us, the Lord will hold us close.” When we understand our true relationship with God we will be able to receive our sense of being and well being from Him. When we really comprehend how much He loves and approves of us we will live our life from a deep sense of blessing that He has for us. Celebrating who we are in Christ can help us rise above our circumstances and go beyond the limits of our childhood.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank you for your deep, deep love for me. I thank you that you created me for a purpose. I thank you that I am not a mistake. Because of your love for me I can really feel good about myself. I receive a sense of well being from knowing that I am a blessing to you. Thank you Lord, no matter what my past, what my parents may have done, I can come to you with my needs. When I do, You will hold me close.
AMEN

Fully Aware of Your Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalms 27:1

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes we just need to answer the questions. It may seem that the answers should be obvious. “Who should I fear?” It is almost rhetorical, yet sometimes our eyes are blinded to the truth. I remember seeing a little boy who thought he was lost, start screaming. He cried hysterically and yet his father was right next to him. The little child was so overcome with fear of abandonment, he cried so hard that he could not see his father right in front of him. It wasn’t until the dad picked him up and hugged him for a few moments that the boy took comfort in his father’s arms. Fear is like that. When we fear, it blocks out all other reality. Here is God, our light and salvation, and yet we act as if we are lost in utter darkness. We are in the stronghold of God’s love and yet fear blinds us from the reality of our salvation. Is this your reality? What is it that you fear? Rebuke it right now. Look into the eyes of Jesus, let His light penetrate your mind and heart. Let Him be your stronghold, arise and walk in peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I admit that I let my emotions overwhelm me. I do not allow myself to fully understand what it means that you are my light, salvation and stronghold. Forgive me Lord. I want your peace. I want your joy. I want to know you more fully. Even today let me experience your presence in my life. Even today Lord, I ask you to make me fully aware of your love and power. I give myself to you Jesus, I will not be afraid. Thank you Lord!
AMEN
