Doing His Will

TODAY’S VERSE
“May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.”
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have the live the Christian life by yourself? Isn’t it exciting that God Himself is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a rich business person calling you and saying that they are giving you a business. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, business equipment and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it, that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says that He is going to produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need for doing His will! So today you can go about your day knowing that everything you need in order to do God’s will is already provided. You can know that God is more interested in producing every good thing that is pleasing to Him in your life than you are. Rejoice, God is committed to equipping you with everything you need for doing His will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need for doing Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”
John 14:1

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Anxiety can ruin a day. Most of our anxiety centers around something terrible we think will happen. Of course, this would make anyone anxious; but what if what we thought was terrible, really wasn’t? The truth is that most of the time what we think terrible will happen, doesn’t! But try telling ourselves that. That is the dilemma. We believe so many lies. No wonder Jesus said that the truth would set us free. So what is our definition of terrible? Basically, it is something that we think will be more than we could ever endure. It is a frightful dread. It is beyond human endurance, worst than anything we can imagine. According to William Backus in his book, “Telling Yourself the Truth,” there are four areas of anxiety. They are: Fear of losing someone’s love. Fear of making someone angry or upset. Fear of public embarrassment. Fear of pain and death. Now Jesus comes along and says, “Don’t let your heart be troubled.” Paul writes, “Do not be anxious about ANYTHING!” Backus suggests that you can minimize your fears until you see them for what they are, lies, and do not be anxious. So, today realize that you have a choice and choose not to be anxious. Today believe the truth that you can trust God and choose not to be anxious. Today when anxiety comes, know that the terrible dread that it conjures up is a lie and follow Paul’s instruction, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You my anxious heart. Forgive me for believing so many lies. Help me change my core beliefs and bring them in line with Your word. Today I choose faith and choose to bring all my anxieties to You.
AMEN

Love As God Loves

TODAY’S VERSE
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
I John 4:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of ways we can try to show that we are a Christian. We can go to church. We can attend religious programs. We can pray before meals. We can vote for certain political figures. While these may be important, the real evidence that God is alive in our heart is our love for other people. Over and over again, the Bible teaches that God is not interested in out outward appearances, our sacrifices or our religious ceremonies. He is interested in our behavior. Are we forgiving, just, loving, kind and benevolent toward our families and those around us? If not, then we need to take time and get to know God better. Knowing God is transformational knowledge. John said that if we don’t love, we don’t know God. In the book of James we read, “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” If the love of God is in our heart then it will compels us to love. Paul shares this kind of love in I Corinthians 13. He writes, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” We say we know God but does our behavior back us up? If you were arrested today for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence of love to find you guilty? It’s not too late. Why not start loving others today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that my actions don’t always confirm my belief in You. You are love and yet there have been many times that I have not been loving toward others. Forgive me. Help me today to be filled with Your love and then go out and love others in the same way. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Soften Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is what the LORD says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: ‘Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns.’”
Jeremiah 4:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever tried planting vegetables in a patch of weeds? I did once and it was a disaster. Instead of breaking up the soil and getting rid of the weeds, I thought I would put a piece of plastic down and cut slits where the seeds would go. It made sense to me. I planted the seeds and the plastic would stop the weeds. Perhaps that would have been true if I used black plastic. But I used clear! Without knowing it, I created a greenhouse for weeds! I had prize winning weeds and barely a vegetable survived. How much better had I plowed the row, taken out the weeds and planted the seeds. This is what Jeremiah is saying about our heart. We are to take our spiritually hardened hearts and break up the soil. We do this by letting God’s truth humble us, soften up our soil and then we can pull out the weeds that have grown in our heart. When we do this, we can replace the weeds with the seeds of His word. The fruit of the Spirit will multiple in this weed free environment. Is your heart hardened toward the things of God? Soften it today through prayer and a humble attitude toward God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You my heart. I ask You to break up the hardened ground and help me pull out the weeds. Help me plant the seeds of Your word that I may live for You.
AMEN

Increase My Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
Romans 4:20-21

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Being fully persuaded makes all the difference in the world. Our faith is only as good as our belief in the object of our faith. If we don’t have a relationship with God, how are we going to really trust Him? How are we going to be fully persuaded that He is able to do the things He promised? A second hand faith passed down from your parents won’t do. A nominal, Sunday only, Christianity will not produce the evidence you need to put your trust in God. Abraham was fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He said because He knew who God was. You can have that kind of relationship with God. He invites you to know Him. He has provided the Holy Spirit to teach you and lead you into a deep relationship with the Father. Start today, by committing yourself to a process of knowing God better. Begin to pray for specific requests and watch as God answers them. As He does, you will learn about His character, His desires, His will. It is this experiential knowledge that teaches you that God has the power to do what He has promises. This will cause you to pray for more mighty acts of God with more faith. Little by little as God reveals Himself you too will become fully persuaded.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me step out in faith today. As I trust You and You reveal Your power and Your majesty to me, help me to trust You more. Build a faith in me until I am fully persuaded that You have the power to do what You have promised. Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Seek Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.”
Psalms 70:4

“But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever sought after God? There are so many different things we seek after every day, some good, some not so good. But the one thing that will make all the difference in the world is seeking after God. God can meet the longing of your heart. He can satisfy your every need. The secret is seeking God with all your heart and soul. It cannot be a half hearted search, but rather a desperate longing, a deep commitment to know and love God. It is nothing less than a consecration of your life, passions and purpose. When you seek God in this way you will find Him. Start today. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to make you aware of His presence. Spend time with Him. Meditate on His word and come to Him in prayer. When you do, you will find out that the Psalmist was right when he wrote, “all who seek you will rejoice and be glad”.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You better. I need You and want to know You with all my heart and soul. I come today to seek an intimate relationship with You and ask that You will help me. Show me the way, guide me to Yourself. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Jesus Prays For You

TODAY’S VERSE
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
Luke 22:31-32

“But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
I John 2:1-2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is true. We do have a spiritual enemy. He does desire to destroy us. And yes we do sin. We do fall short of how God desires us to behave. But praise God that is not where today’s passage ends. In one of the most sincere verses in the Bible, Jesus turns to Simon Peter and says, “but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.” What an epic moment. God, in the very flesh of Jesus, calls Simon by name, looks him in the eye and tells him that he is praying for him so that his faith may not fail. And the great truth is that He does the same for us! John elaborates on this by saying that when we sin, when we are under spiritual attack, Jesus speaks to the father in our defense. Now we have a choice to make. We can be like Peter and ignore what Jesus said, or we can believe Him. Think about it. If we really believe that Jesus is praying for us, that He is interceding for us, it would change the way we life. Ours would be a life full of gratitude for what God has done. Peace, because of His presence. Courage because of our confidence we have in Him. And what does He ask for in return? Listen to what He said to Peter. “Strengthen your brothers.” Today, live conscious of God’s love and protection. Hear Jesus praying for you by name, and don’t let your faith fail. Instead, walk in victory! And with renewed strength and faith, go strengthen others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I am so glad that You are greater than the enemy of my soul. You are all powerful, all loving and all wise. Thank You for interceding for me with Your prayers of grace, mercy and forgiveness. Help me today, go strengthen others, with the same love You have for me.
AMEN

Renewed Relationship

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”
Psalms 66:16-20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Psalmist had some great news to share with all who will listen. He tells his own personal testimony of how he had sinned and separated himself from God. When he felt a yearning to cry out to the Lord for help, he knew he had to reestablish his relationship with God. But how?  By confessing his sin. Confessing his sin brought him back into a right relationship with God. It allowed him to talk to God, to share his needs, his feelings and his yearnings. And when he did, God listened! God did not withdraw his love from him. You see, our relationship with God is everything! It is a precious gift that God gives to all His children. A gift to be cherished, nurtured and protected. Today, get to know God better. Is there something between you and Him? Confess it, make it right. God loves you and is waiting for you. He will not ignore your prayers or withdraw His unfailing love from you. Get right with God today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love for me. I confess that I have sinned and have alienated myself from You. I bring my sins to You and ask You to forgive me and cleanse my heart. Renew my fellowship with You this very moment. I reject the lie of Satan that I am unclean or in anyway unacceptable to You. I accept Your forgiveness and unconditional love. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Waiting Quietly

TODAY’S VERSE
“I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. – O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalms 62:1,8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you wait? I have to admit, I do not always wait with patience. I do not always wait with faith. Often, when I have to wait, anger, worry, and fear often are my companions. Not far behind are murmuring and complaining waiting to have their say. Why is that? Why is waiting so hard? It is because I forget who I am waiting on. I act as if I am waiting on a younger sibling. Worse, I behave as if God did not even exist. David was different. He said that he waited quietly before God. Why? Because, if David was going to be victorious, he knew it would be because of God. God was his rock, salvation, fortress and refuge. David knew the peace that came from trusting God and he implores us to do the same. He says, “Trust in God at all times. Pour out our heart to Him.” What a difference this will make. As we pour out our concerns, worries, fears, doubts, all that is on our heart to God, He will reassure us. He will guide us. He will give us the peace we need. Today when the pressure is on, when you are under the gun and you have to wait, try waiting quietly on God. He will be your rock, He will give you the victory.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for my impatience. Forgive me to leaving You out of my life. Help me to remember that You love me and care about the details of my life. Today help me, as I wait patiently on You.
AMEN

Do It Again Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.”
Acts 4:29-35

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Is there any wonder why the Church grew so mightily in the first century? Men and women who had known Jesus Christ, who had experienced mighty miracles and had seen Jesus rise from the dead, were now filled with the Holy Spirit. They were on a mission to share the glorious message of God’s forgiveness and grace to everyone they could. How does today’s passage compare to your church or personal Christian experience? Erwin McManus in his book, “The Barbarian Way,” writes, “Somehow Christianity has become a non-mystical religion. It is about reasonable faith. If we believe the right things, we are orthodox. Frankly, whether we ever actually connect to God or experience His undeniable presence has become incidental if not irrelevant.” Sadly, what McManus is saying is true. Today let us repent of our “reasonable faith” and join those in Acts asking God to fill us with His Spirit and give us boldness in sharing about Christ. Let us ask God for His healing power and miraculous signs and wonders. Finally, let us share with those in need, be united in our hearts and mind and testify powerfully of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. May it be said of us that “God’s great blessing was upon them all.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive us for powerless orthodoxy. Forgive us for our lack of faith and sacrifice. We pray for a holy boldness in our church. We pray for Your miraculous hand to come upon us and do mighty works. We pray for unity of hearts and mind. Might the places we worship be shaken. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN
