Inner Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
“I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.”
Ephesians 3:14-16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the prayers that Paul prayed. His prayers give great insight into the will of God for His children. I believe that Paul models in his prayers, what we can pray for ourselves. So what is Paul saying we can ask God for in this prayer? According to Paul, we can ask God to empower us with inner strength from His unlimited resources! Inner strength. What would it feel like to be empowered with inner strength? How would that change your day today? If you were empowered with inner strength, what would you do different? I believe God wants to empower you with inner strength and He certainly has the resources to do it. Do you have the faith to ask? Why not join Paul and ask God to use His glorious, unlimited resources to empower you with inner strength today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, Creator of everything in heaven and on earth, I pray that today, from your glorious, unlimited resources, you would empower me with inner strength through Your Spirit.
AMEN

Don’t Lose Your Soul

TODAY’S VERSE
“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
Matthew 16:26

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus asked a question that has challenged people for centuries. His question has never been more relevant than it is today. He asked, “What will we benefit if we gain the whole world but lose our soul?” Isn’t gaining the whole world what everyone seems to be striving for? Never in the history of man has it been harder to be content. The pressures of this world are amplified through print, television, movies and internet. The convergence of media and information has escalated the speed of trends, fads and popularity making us even more susceptible to manipulation. We need to look certain ways, have certain things, go to certain schools, live in certain places. And if we cannot make it, then our children must. The words of Jesus stand in contrast to the media hype. They warn us to stop the madness! Jesus points out the fact that there is so much more in life than just the physical trappings and the praise of men. We have a soul! In this world we live for 70, 80 years. Our soul however, lives forever. This is the beginning of who we really are. God created more than your life, He created your essence. That essence is the real you, it is the soul. It never dies. It is eternal. You don’t want to lose it to the next world. Jesus is an expert on the soul. Study what He has to say. Get to know Him, then live for Him. Jesus asked it. One way or another, you must answer. “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I must admit I have jumped onto a treadmill. I am running and running but not going anywhere. I look for significance but it is nowhere to be found. I can feel my soul slipping away. Help me today, to see myself the way you see me. Help me to see myself as a living breathing soul that you love and have created. Help me know you in a personal intimate way. Help me find my true significance in you.
AMEN

The Unseen Real

TODAY’S VERSE
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
II Corinthians 4:16,18
“I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 16:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The presence of God is a reality that we can experience. He is the God who is there. Unfortunately, we can go day after day and never be conscious of His reality. Leanne Payne, in her book, Listening Prayer writes, “It is especially easy for modern people to regard the supernatural world and activities as somehow less real than the world we behold with our senses. As twentieth-century Christians, we live in a materialistic age in which our systems of learning have long based their conclusions on scientific truth alone. The presuppositions of such systems have misled many generations of students, blinding them to the truths of God and the Unseen Real.”
Paul says that he did not lose heart because the reality of fixing his eyes on what is unseen. The unseen reality of God renewed his heart, day by day. David said that was not shaken by life’s experiences because he experienced God at his side. How about you? Is God’s presence a reality in your life? Do you renew your heart day by day because of the reality of His presence in your life? It’s not too late. Start today to experience His reality. Spend time with God, talk to Him, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. When you do, you will find out that He really is the “Unseen Real.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, my life is so full of everything else but you. I spend so much of my time without any awareness of your presence. I confess, I have been influenced by scientific rational thinking and find myself doubting your reality. I have kept you at a safe distance, turned you into a religious relic. Forgive me. Today, reveal yourself to me Lord. Help me be conscious of your presence. Help me renew my heart today by your unseen reality.
AMEN

What Do You Want Him To Do?

TODAY’S VERSE
“She touched the fringe of his robe, for she thought, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.’”
Matthew 9:20-21
“Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’”
Matthew 20:30-32

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Deep down inside you know there has to be more. There must be relief for your pain. Perhaps like the woman in today’s passage, you wonder, “What if I could just touch the fringe on His robe?” Like the two blind men on the side of the road, if you knew Jesus was coming, you would shout out to Him. In his book, The Church That Heals, Doug Murren writes, “We need the miraculous in the church today. Postmodern people are too broken to be fixed through simple human caregiving; they need to be pieced back together through the Supernatural healing of Jesus through His body the church.” What is it you need today? Where are you hurting? Today Jesus is asking you the same thing that He asked the blind men. “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I am sitting here today by the side of the road. I am in great need. I have shouted for mercy and you have heard me. Now, dear Lord, please hear my request. I simply come in faith to touch the hem of your garment and be healed. (Take a moment and share with Jesus what it is you need Him to do) Heal me I pray, in Jesus name.
AMEN

The Kingdom of Heaven Is Near

TODAY’S VERSE
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”
Matthew 9:35

“As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.”
Matthew 10:7,8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus did the will of His father. He told His disciples to do the same thing. He gives us the same commission. Jesus said it best in John 14:10, 12.
“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Today you and I have been called to be about the same Father’s business. We have been asked to go to the world and cry out, “The Kingdom of God is near.” We are to go with the compassion of Christ and do the things He did. We are to pray that God would show forth His mighty power and do whatever we ask in the name of Jesus, so that it may bring glory to the Father. Today, ask God, “What would you have me do? What would you have me pray?” You are just as much His disciple as the original twelve. Follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that your Kingdom would be evident in my life today. Guide me, lead me, show me what you would have me do. Give me the courage and faith to trust you for mighty things and to be obedient to what you ask of me. I pray that I would honor you in all that I do today.
AMEN

Behold His Beauty

TODAY’S VERSE
“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.”
Psalms 27:4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember when I first saw my wife. People had told me about her. They said that we would be a great couple. One friend, who was trying to match us up, brought me a magazine article with her picture in it. That was it. I was smitten. I beheld her beauty. It was more so when I finally met her. While we were dating I would catch myself looking at her. Still today, I am moved by her presence. This is more than a visual experience. It is emotional and existential. Why? Because I fell in love with her.
Did you know that you can behold God in the same way? You can. God has given us an “inner eye”, that spiritual ability to connect with Him in a deep and personal way. David knew this, so he made it his most passionate desire. He wrote, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; to behold the beauty of the Lord.” If you can do that, everything else in life will fall in line. Today, stop and ask God to help you “behold His beauty.” Commit yourself to spend time in His presence, read His word, meditate on His goodness and you will begin to fall in love with God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me begin to behold your beauty. Help me know you, hear you, fellowship with you. Help me trust you, commit myself to you, help me love you. Lord I know this is a process, but it is one I deeply desire. Start today Father, guide me into a deeper relationship with you.
AMEN

Renew Your Deeds Today

TODAY’S VERSE
“LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known.”
Habakkuk 3:2

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever read a passage of scripture that seems to express the longing of your heart? This verse expresses mine. Every time I read the scripture I end up marveling at God’s deeds. How magnificent. How mighty. As I read the life of Jesus I cannot help but think of how merciful and full of love He is. And yet, as I see my life, as I see the church today, as I see our country I cannot help but pray what Habakkuk prayed, “Renew your deeds in our day; in our time make them known.” I believe God has stayed His hand. I believe He is waiting for the church to believe that He is mighty today and not just in the past. He is waiting for us to lay down our materialism, our preoccupation with success, fame and riches. I believe He is waiting for those of us who go to church on Sunday to want His Lordship on Monday. We need the prayer of Habakkuk to flood our churches, to be on the lips of our people. It needs to be our passion, our plea and our deepest desire. We need the Lord. We need His mighty power in our life. Today marvel at all that God has done in the past and then ask Him to do it again in your life. He is waiting for us to ask.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I marvel at your mighty deeds. How I stand in awe of all that you have done. Dear Lord, I need your power in my life. I come today and ask that you would again do your mighty deeds. Renew them again and make your self known to my world. Work in my life today that others might see and stand in awe of you.
AMEN

A Conversation With God

TODAY’S VERSE
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”
Micah 7:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
He hears our prayers. He hears and the very fact that He hears assures us that He in turn answer us. Prayer is not a one way street. Prayer was never meant to be a list of demands or an message we leave on an answering machine. Prayer is a conversation. Leanne Payne in her book, Listening Prayer, writes, “That our God is faithful to hear and answer all prayer is something I want to shout from the housetop.” Dallas Willard in his book, Hearing God, writes, “A Biblical Christian is not just someone who holds certain beliefs about the Bible. He or she is also someone who leads the kind of life demonstrated in the Bible: a life of personal, intelligent interaction with God.”
We worship the God who listens. We serve the God who answers. Our God desires a conversation. Isn’t it time you really talked to Him. Today, talk to God. Share with Him your concerns, desires and hopes. But don’t just pray. Converse with Him. Ask Him questions and listen for answers.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I come to you to have a conversation. You have called me your “friend” so I come as a friend. As I pour out my heart to you, as I strike up a conversation, tune my heart to hear your reply. Fill my heart with your peace, joy and hope. Might I experience your loving presence during our time together. In Jesus Name I pray.
AMEN

To Do Today

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Not sure what to do today? Don’t know which direction to go in or where to start? In today’s passage Paul has given us a tremendous “to do” list. In fact he is emphatic about our doing it. He uses the words, “always”, “continually” and “in all circumstances”. Look at what he says we should do. “Be joyful always!” We think of joy as an emotion but in fact many times joy is an act of the will. We choose to see the glass half full, the trip almost finished, hope right around the corner. We see hope and experience the presence of Christ in our life and choose joy! “Pray continually.” Prayer is more than an occasional ritual. It is the communication that comes out of a vibrant real relationship. It is a conversation with the living God that goes on all day. God really is with us and we talk to Him continually. “Give thanks in all circumstances.” Giving thanks is that expression of gratitude we give to God when we decide to give Him the glory for the good around us and trust Him with the bad. When things go right we praise and when we are not sure about our circumstances and are upset, it is the voice of reason that says, “I thank you God that you are trustworthy.” Today add to your list of things to do; being joyful, praying and giving thanks.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, above all else today, I choose to be joyful. I also commit myself to pray throughout the day as things come to my mind. And Father, today I will deliberately be conscious of giving you thanks in all my circumstances. Help me to this end I pray in Jesus name.
AMEN

Choices

TODAY’S VERSE
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:4-6

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
Hebrews 1:1

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many choices to make in life. How do we integrate our faith into the major life decisions we make? First we see in this passage that we are to “trust in the Lord with all our heart.” This is more than “head knowledge.” It is experiential knowledge. This “knowing” has gone past our brain into our experience so that it has finally resided in our inner being. It is not a “blind faith” rather it is what the author of Hebrews calls “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” It is out of our relationship with God that we “seek His will in all we do” and God is faithful to lead us and show us which path to take.
What is it that you need help with? What is it that you need to decide? Seek God’s help today. Pray over the issue at hand. Seek counsel, apply wisdom, pray much and then allow Him to guide you. Let Him work in your heart and mind. He promises He will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, some decisions are so hard. I find myself so many times baffled at what to do. Situations where I have dug myself into a hole, consequences of other peoples sins, circumstances beyond my control, all of these have often left me rocking. Father, help me trust in you with all my heart today. Increase my faith. Impart your wisdom to me and lead me in the way I should go. I pray this in the precious name of Jesus.
AMEN
