This Day

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Psalms 118:24, 29

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In most cases there is always a choice. Even if there is no other way out of a situation you still can choose how you react to the inevitability of the event. Paul writes in Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Here we have a whole range of Godly reactions to our situation. Add to that list, faith, hope and prayer and how else can we react, than what the Psalmist suggests, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”? I know how hard life can be. I know there are difficulties, horrific situations and sometimes a seemingly hopeless situation, but God has made this day. This day. Today is yours. What you do with it may have human limitations, may have the deck stacked against it, but know this, nothing, nothing, nothing can take you out of the love that God has for you and you can rejoice and be glad in this day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I have a choice. Today I choose you. I choose to rejoice and be glad in this day. Give me this day my daily bread. Lead me this day and keep me from falling to temptation. Dear Father, this is a day you have made, with your strength, I will rejoice and be glad in it.
AMEN

Praise Him

TODAY’S VERSE
They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”
Revelation 5:13

Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness!
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD!
Psalms 150:1-2, 6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We often have so many pressing issues that it is easy to come to God and pour out our requests without saying anything of praise toward God. But when forget to praise God, it is us who misses a blessing. It is ironic, we come to Bless God with our praises and we are blessed in the process. Derek Prince once said, “If we only have ten minutes to pray, eight of them should be spent in praise!” There is so much we can praise God for today. Praise Him for His power. Praise Him for His glory. Praise Him for His provision. Praise Him for His love toward us. Praise Him for His death and resurrection. Praise Him for being our Almighty God. Who are we that God would allow us to even utter His name in praise, yet He does. He desires our praise and gratitude.
Today, lift up your voice in praise to Him. Let everything that is in us, PRAISE THE LORD!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I have not praised You as I should. I become so occupied with this life that You have given me. So busy that I forget to stop and thank You for all You have done for me. So busy that I forget to praise You for who You are. Today, I come to say, “Thank-you!” Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. Thank You for all Your provision. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me. I stop now to praise You for Your majesty and power, for Your Holiness and unfailing love. I love You Father God and praise You today in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
AMEN

Come To God With Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
I John 5:14-15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Confidence. There are many different ways you can approach God. You could be fearful, apathetic, humble, arrogant, with faith or without it, confused or assured, angry or in worship. You can also come to God with full assurance and confidence that He loves you and will answer your prayer. Leanne Payne in her book, Listening Prayer writes, “In a day when we are out of touch with the soul and its way of communicating and interacting with God, we have to learn anew how to receive from Him.” She continues, “It is really simple. Through an act of the will we release our faith in confidence and receive what we have asked for, thanking God in advance for the answer.” This happens as we dialog with God about His will. “What is it you want Father?” we ask. And when He answers (and He will in His time) then we can go to God in confidence knowing He will do His will. John says it this way, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” What do you want to ask God for today? Come to Him in confidence and talk to Him about it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me learn to be more intimate with you and to have confidence even today, in who you are and how much you love me. Lord, You know my situation. You know my needs. Help me to know what Your will is in these matters so I can pray accordingly and thank you in advance for your answer. In Jesus name I pray.
AMEN

Open My Eyes

TODAY’S VERSE
“Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered, “so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back: “He is in Dothan.” Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city.

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh, my lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
II Kings 6:13-17

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This a great Biblical story. The King of Aram was at war with Israel and every time they made a military move, God told Elisha who told the Israelites. It was so bad that the King of Aram though he had a spy in their midst. They told him, “No, Elisha is telling the Israelites our plans.” So the King was angry and asked his armies to go get Elisha. Elisha’s servant saw them and was scared to death. But Elisha saw a heavenly reality that made all the difference in the world. He was at peace and asked God to give the servant the same perspective. The Lord opened his eyes to the heavenly reality of their situation.

Can you imagine how he must have felt? It would be like a person who was raised in the deep jungle seeing America for the first time. Can you imagine him trying to explain to his people what America was like? Telephones, video, automobiles, restaurants, airplanes. How different the two worlds are. Yet what do we know of heaven? What do we know of God’s power available to us? What do we know of His infinite riches and power toward us who believe? It made all the difference when the servant saw the heavenly resources there on his behalf. Would it make a difference in your day today if you knew more about the Heavenly reality waiting to bust in on yours? I pray for you what Elisha prayed, “May God open your eyes so you may see.” Might we pray what Jesus taught us to pray, “Oh God, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess, I spend much of my time blind to your presence. Blind to your power. Blind to your heavenly reality all around me.  Please open my eyes that I may see all that you have for me today. Help me to see You and all of your vast love and resources you have available for my life. Open my eyes today, that I might get a glimpse of your presence. In the matchless name of Jesus.
AMEN

Powerful Possibilities

TODAY’S VERSE
“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 1:19-20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How would it change your life if you really understood the power God has for you? Can you imagine someone only living on $20,000 a year when they had a million dollars given to them and placed in their bank account? It would be foolishness to have a million dollars and never understand all that you could do with it. Yet what must God think, when He has deposited into our life account His incredible power, and we never avail our self of it, we only live on a fraction of what He has supplied us with? How different would our life be if we really begin to understand how He wants us to use His power? Pray today, that God would open your eyes to all that He wants to do in your life through His powerful possibilities.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to understand all the power you have for my life. Help me see how I am a steward of that power, how you want to use Your power in and through my life. Please Lord, open my eyes to the possibilities your power can have for my life, then give me the faith today to use it. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Answered Prayers

TODAY’S VERSE
“We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.”
II Corinthians 1:11

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Prayer. How many times are we tempted to think that it doesn’t matter? How many times does it feel as if our prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, not affecting any outcome? Yet we see in today’s verse that Paul is saying, “You are helping us by praying for us.” Now Paul knew where the real credit belonged. He confesses that his confidence is in God who continues to rescue him, but he is quick to add that praying to God is that catalyst that often causes the power of God to prevail. God designed it that way. Our almighty, all knowing, all powerful God has chosen to allow His power to be used at the point of our involvement. He chose you and I to be His co-laborers, His agents in this world charged with the responsibility of invoking His power. After all, Jesus himself taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Paul said, “Many people will give thanks because God answered so many prayers for our safety!”
Let me ask you, “How many people will give thanks because you prayed on their behalf?” It’s not too late! Start praying today. Pray for your family, pray for your friends. Pray for those at work. Pray for your church. When you are done, pray some more. God desires our prayers. He desires to work out His will in harmony with our requests.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I feel like your disciples who asked you to teach them to pray. I am so ignorant, so inexperienced, so naïve about prayer. Holy Spirit, teach me, guide me, instruct me. Help me to know what to pray. Give me the faith to trust you. Today, embolden my heart to pray in a way that brings you glory and works on behalf of those that so desperately need your touch.
AMEN

God Will Rescue You

TODAY’S VERSE
“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”
II Corinthians 1:8-10

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes life gets so hard. You wonder how you will make it. And then you come to a passage of scripture like today’s and become encouraged deep down in your soul. Paul was overwhelmed beyond his ability to endure but through it he learned not to rely on himself but to rely on God. God who is so powerful that He can raise the dead! As a result Paul put all his confidence in God who he knew would rescue him again. What about you? Is there something that is wearing you down? Do you, or someone you love, need rescuing? If so, come to God today. Bring your situation to Him who is faithful. Place your confidence in Him and He will continue to rescue you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you that I can come to you with my deepest sorrow, my gravest situation and my greatest fears. I thank you that I can put my confidence in the fact that you will hear my prayers and rescue me. I commit myself to you today and will rely on you to provide all my needs. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

The Promiseland Is Waiting

TODAY’S VERSES
The LORD said to Moses, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”
Numbers 13:1-2

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored.
Numbers 13:30-32

That night all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
Numbers 14:1-4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Attitudes can change everything. You know the story. Moses sent spies into the promise land to see what it was like. All twelve men saw the same thing but came back with different conclusions. Two saw possibilities born out of faith and hope in God’s love and power. The others saw defeat, death, dying and doom. The people believed the second story. Why is that? Why can we believe the death, dying and doom story so much easier than the land of milk and honey? What is it that keeps us from believing in the goodness of God? We don’t doubt whether He can do good, we doubt whether He wants to. Dallas Willard in his book, Hearing God, shares why even the miracles of Jesus could not convince some people of His love and Lordship. Willard writes, “Our preexisting ideas and assumptions are precisely what determine what we can see, hear or otherwise observe.” You see Caleb’s report could not change what the people already believed in their heart, that God did not really love them and they were better off taking care of themselves.
What do you think? Seeing a miracle won’t change it. A good report won’t change that deep down doubt. Only repentance and a relationship can. Repent of unbelief, doubt and fear and then spend time with God. Don’t quit, every day get to know Him, until you sense His concern and His deep passion and love for you. Come to Him today, ask Him to show you His love. He will. The promiseland is waiting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, you know my heart. You know my doubts, fears, negative thoughts. I have had them all my life. I repent Lord. I want to believe. Help me correct my thinking. Help me know you more and more until my inner thoughts reflect the faith and love that you created me for. In Jesus name. AMEN

How Do You Wait?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him”
Psalms 37:7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Waiting can be hard, especially when we find ourselves in difficult situations. The trouble is what we add to waiting. It is wait plus fretting; wait plus stewing; wait plus conniving; wait plus brooding. Instead David adds God to the waiting. He says to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. That means if we are going to add anything to waiting it should be wait plus faith; wait plus prayer; wait plus hope; wait plus the peace that passes all understanding. Is there something that you are having trouble waiting on? Are you fretting, stewing, conniving or brooding? If so, give it over to Jesus. Be still before Him and wait in faith, hope and peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so hard to wait. Forgive me for fretting, stewing, conniving and brooding. Help me instead, to trust you. I surrender my situation to you. Today I will wait in faith, hope and peace. AMEN

Filled With the Knowledge of God

TODAY’S VERSE

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:9-11

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Being filled with the knowledge of God is crucial to our Christian experience. But how does this happen? How are we filled with the knowledge of God? F.B. Meyers writes, “God’s impressions within and His word without are always corroborated by His Providence around, and we should quietly wait until those three focus into one point.” We gain knowledge as we quiet ourselves to listen to God, read His word for understanding and follow His leadings as they are played out. Dallas Willard in his book Hearing God shares, “So our union with God – His presence with us, in which our aloneness is banished and the meaning and full purpose of human existence is realized – consists chiefly in a conversational relationship with God while we are each consistently and deeply engaged as His friend and colaborer in the affairs of the kingdom of Heaven.” This is what Paul is talking about. As we listen to Him, muse on His word and practice His presence as we go about living for Him, He will give us wisdom and knowledge, the fruit of good works and all the strength and power we need.
Start today. Talk to God, read His word and converse with Him as you go about your business. Does it get any better than that?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, is it true? Can I really be filled with your knowledge and wisdom? Can my life bear good works? Can I really have your strength and power in my life? This is what I desire. Please help me Lord with the discipline I need to quietly spend time listening to you and reading your word. Help me even today to converse with you throughout the day. Help me experience your presence. I pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ my Savior.
AMEN
