You Can Draw Near To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Then the LORD instructed Moses: “Come up here to me, and bring along Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of Israel’s elders. All of you must worship from a distance.”- Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. There they saw the God of Israel.
Exodus 24:1,9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In today’s passage, we see that God invited Moses to bring three select people plus the seventy elders to a mountain and worship Him. When they went, even though it was a distance, the Bible says, “There they saw the God of Israel.” A theme throughout the Bible is man’s pursuit to have communion with God and God’s pursuit of having a relationship with mankind. We see this over and over again in the scriptures. God is relational, and He desires a relationship with you. In His book, Hearing God, Dallas Willard writes, “First, however, it is worth reminding ourselves to read the biblical accounts as if what is described is happening to us. We must make the conscious choice to think that such things might happen to us and to imagine what it would be like if they were to happen.” Moses fellowshipped with God. So did David, Paul, and the Apostles. You can do the same thing. Today, hear God calling to you, “Come here to me.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come now to worship You. Help me sense Your presence. Draw me close to You, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

True Spirituality

TODAY’S VERSE
We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are more important than others. And yet they are easy to miss. We get so busy living our life going from day to day coping when God offers us so much more. Paul knew how important it was to focus on our spiritual life, so he prayed that God would give the Colossians complete knowledge of His will. He prayed that God would give them spiritual wisdom and understanding. How often do we pray this way? Do we start our day out asking God to provide us with complete knowledge of His will? How much time do we spend trying to attain spiritual wisdom and understanding from the Lord? We should. Our spiritual life depends on it. When we do, Paul promises that the way we live will always honor and please the Lord, and our lives will produce every kind of good fruit as we learn to know God better and better. Today seek spiritual wisdom and understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, give me spiritual wisdom and understanding and complete knowledge of Your will for my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Hear Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
John 14:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Whose voice do you listen to? When you are in trouble, feel like the world is coming apart, racked with guilt or grief, whose voice do you listen to? Could it be that you are listening to your inner voice of fear and doubt? Maybe recordings from childhood accuse or rebuke you. It could be that satanic influences have persuaded you to give up in despair or give in to temptation to escape it all. The good news is that there is another voice. It is the voice of God. Through Jesus, the very voice of God comes to you and says, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” If it was just me telling you that, you would have reason to pause. But this is the very word of the Lord Himself, and He is trustworthy. Today, when you feel out of sorts, when it seems that all is lost, you feel that it is no use trying, hear Jesus. Hear Him say to you, “Don’t let yourself be troubled; trust in God!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that You care for me. Thank You that I can come to You with all my problems. Thank You that I can stop worrying and trust in You. Help me and comfort me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

He Hears Your Cries

TODAY’S VERSE
LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
Psalm 10:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I find great comfort in the fact that our Lord knows the hopes of the helpless. How often have I felt helpless and yet with God there is hope. This hope comes from the relationship that we can have with Him. Gregory Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation, and reentry program in the world. He writes in his books about young people being raised in helpless situations. It is coming to Homeboy, with the atmosphere of love and acceptance, that their lives are changed. Boyle writes, in his book, “The Whole Language”, about when people first come to Homeboy. “Our folks are frozen in survival brain and need to settle into a more integrated brain that leads to belonging. We don’t aim to ready folks to survive as the fittest, but to thrive as the nurtured.” That is God’s intent. He wants you to know that you belong. You are His child. And He is longing to nurture you, letting you know how dear you are to Him. Today, even though you may seem to be in a helpless state at times, remember, He hears your cry, and He is here to comfort and nurture you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, you know my helplessness. I cry out to you, knowing that you hear me. Come as You have promised and comfort me.
AMEN

Conscious Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s harder than it seems. You would think that having God, with all His love for us, all His power, all His knowledge, all His tremendous grace and mercy toward us, we would be excited about knowing Him! I mean, we get excited about sports teams. We become obsessed with television programs. We spend countless hours in pursuit of our interests, hobbies, and careers. We think these things will bring us peace, but often, they only help us cope with our lack of peace. They are treating the symptoms but never getting to the cause. Instead, true peace comes when we make God our magnificent obsession. Isaiah shares that God will keep us in a deep mature peace as we trust in Him. As we fix our thoughts on Him, we will become more and more aware of His presence. We will trust Him more, share with Him more, and listen to His voice more. This becomes a relationship with God, and it is in this continuous relationship we will find peace. Today, make it the cry of your heart to know Him, trust Him, and become conscious of Him throughout the day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to know You. I want to be conscious of Your presence in my life. Today, help me fix my thoughts on You.
AMEN

Talk With God

TODAY’S VERSE
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
Psalms 27:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Is it a wonder that God said that David was a man after His own heart? David shows why that was true in today’s verse. Here is a respondent, David saying, “Lord, I am coming.” He heard God and desired with all his heart to meet with Him. Now I would be tempted to give up and say, “I could never be like David,” except this verse is really about God. It is God that made the overture to David. God said, “Come and talk with me.” It was God that loved David and desired David’s fellowship. The good news is that God desires the same with you! He wants you to come and talk with Him. David believed it and responded. What will you do?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, today I hear You say to me, “Come and talk with me.” Lord, my heart is responding, “Here I am Lord, I want to talk with You.”
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Don’t worry about anything? How hard is that? Worrying comes so naturally. Perhaps that is why we need supernatural help. Paul shares that the secret to “stopping” worry is “substituting” prayer. We need to pray about what we are worrying about. Paul elaborates, “Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” If we want to stop worrying, we need to trust God with it. We let Him take the burden while focusing on heartfelt gratitude for all that He has done. When we take on this attitude of gratitude, God can work in our hearts. Paul explains, “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Today, stop worrying. Pray about whatever is bothering you. Give thanks to God and let Him fill your heart and mind with His supernatural peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for worrying. I have not trusted You. Today, I bring You my burden and give thanks for all You have done. Fill me with Your peace, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Colossians 4:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to over-emphasize the importance of prayer. That is why Paul models for the Colossians a deep, sincere, focused prayer life. He writes, “We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Prayer is essential to our Christian experience, so Paul insists that we devote ourselves to prayer. Devotion is a serious commitment, but like Jesus, Paul was not talking about a vain repetition of prayers or an insincere ritualistic routine. No, he asked that we be earnest with a Holy intent and focus. And then, he adds that we need to pray with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the relational part of our prayers. To be thankful to God means that we genuinely acknowledge who He is and what He has done. Thankfulness kindles love in our hearts for God and allow us to receive the same from Him. So today, devote yourself to pray with a thankful heart, keeping alert and earnest in your conversation with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I need to pray. Forgive me for my lack of focus and thanksgiving. Help me as I devote myself to prayer, stay alert and thankful, and develop a deep relationship with You.
AMEN

Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Romans 12:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Be at peace with everyone? How hard is that? Nevertheless, you are commanded in scripture to love others. Jesus went farther and said you are to love your enemies! His message was and always has been revolutionary. The good news is that Paul doesn’t leave you helpless. He writes in this same passage some practical instructions on how to be at peace with others. Listen to what he wrote, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Never pay back evil with more evil. Never take revenge.” Today, may God help you do all you can to live in peace with everyone.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me today to do all I can to live in peace with everyone.
AMEN

Come Close To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
James 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You can be so close to someone yet so far away! The Children of Israel had the Tabernacle of God as they went through the wilderness. They had the tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them by God Himself. They were close to God, yet their hearts were far from Him. Are we any better? We have the scriptures, beautiful sanctuaries, thousands of Christian books, an endless supply of Biblical teachers in the media, and yet how close are we to God? Closeness to God is not about all the spiritual aids we have. It is not about His proximity. He is as near as our breath. The question is, how close have we moved toward Him? Where is our focus? What are we conscious about? Today, if you feel far from God, who moved? Get up, awaken your heart and move toward Him. Talk to Him, love Him, worship Him. He is there. Are you?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, today I come to draw near to You. Draw near to me, I pray. Invade my heart. Speak to my inner being. Fill me with Your presence, that I may know You better. In Jesus Name.
AMEN
