Feed Yourself Spiritually

TODAY’S VERSE
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I was an intern, I had to help a child learn to eat. They could not do it themself so over and over, I would try to help them with the simplest of movements. Now that person couldn’t help themself but how sad is it when a person who can eat chooses, for complex reasons, not to do it. Paul was just as concerned with the Christians in Corinth. He wrote, “I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready.” The Psalmist says that we need to digest the word of God, hide it in our hearts if we are going to be healthy spiritually and not sin against Him. We need to feed ourselves spiritually to live the life Christ has called us to. Today, spend time with God. Feed yourself on His word. Let the Holy Spirit nourish you and give you spiritual strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to feed on Your word. Nourish my soul through the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me grow into spiritual maturity.
In Jesus’ name.

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
I know the greatness of the LORD
Psalms 135:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Psalms 135 is full of praise for our Lord. The Psalmist lists many attributes of God that are praise-worthy and speaks of His mighty acts. He has taken time to notice, appreciate, and remember the good things that he knows about God. And that made the difference. He knew. He knew the greatness of the Lord. The word “know” is more than intellectual knowledge; it is experiential. The Psalmist witnessed God in action. He became acquainted with His ways, spent time in His presence, and had personal knowledge of God. So much so he could write with confidence that he knew the greatness of the Lord. Today decide to change your focus. Change from knowing about the greatness of the Lord to experiencing it. Then you, too, will be praising Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank You for all that I know about You. But today, I want more. I want to know Your greatness. I want to know You. Help me, I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Lord, Bend Down And Hear Me

TODAY’S VERSE
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.
Psalms 86:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The scriptures are full of comfort. How often do I come to God with great need and don’t know where to turn. David was the same way. In just a few verses in today’s text, he makes his plea before God. He starts out writing, “Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help.” How incredible, the Lord so tenderly bends down to hear him. So, David cries out to God to protect him, be merciful to him, and give him happiness. Those are solemn requests from a heart that is in desperate need. Why does he turn to God? Why in all his despair does he feel God could or would even help him? Because he knows this about God, God is good, ready to forgive, and full of unfailing love to all who ask for His help. What do you believe today? What is your God like? Today come to the God of David, let Him bend down to you and hear your prayer and answer your need for help.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need You.

Living In A New Sphere

TODAY’S VERSE
You must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter is saying that we need to grow “in” grace. The normal use of the word “in” meant walking through a door. You go into another room. You come, and you go. But Peter is suggesting much more!!! Peter writes that we are to grow in Grace. He uses the other word for “in.” A word that means moving and living in a whole new sphere of reality. Peter says that as a Christian, even though we are on earth, we live in another sphere or reality of God’s grace and knowledge. Grace is God’s favor, affection, mercy, and thoughts toward you. Knowledge is “experientially knowing” something. It is a working knowledge gleaned from personal experience! Today, stop and realize where you live. You live in a spiritual sphere where you grow in and have first-hand knowledge of God’s favor, affection, and mercy. Welcome to this new world!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for inviting me to live in this new sphere of grace and knowledge. Help me enter into it fully and grow and mature in this atmosphere of Your favor, affection, and mercy.

The One Thing

TODAY’S VERSE
The one thing I ask of the LORD—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
Psalms 27:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is your “one thing”? We all have one. It may not seem like it, but we do. But, you say, “I haven’t chosen anything yet.” Sure you have. By not choosing, you chose mediocrity. You are trading your precious life for a half-hearted attempt at living when all the while, God is waiting to give you life, life at its fullness. David knew God was the “one thing,” the meaning of life, the ultimate purpose, what Jesus called “the pearl of great price” that when a man found it, “he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” For David, that pearl was knowing God. He wanted to live in His presence, delight in Him, and spend time meditating on all that He is. And God offers you the same thing. It is within your grasp. Today, choose the “one thing.” Choose to truly know God in all His wisdom, grace, and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come today to ask for the “one thing.” I desire, Lord, to know You. I open my heart and ask You to fill it. Help me delight in Your presence. Help me meditate on all You are. I seek You, Lord, with all my heart. Be my “one thing,” I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Remain In Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is a way of life. It is so much more than church on Sunday and a few “quiet times.” God cares about our every moment. Our emotions, our thoughts, our actions. In his book, “Walking With God,” John Eldredge writes that our heart is central to the Christian life and that we are invited into a conversational intimacy with God. This is what Jesus was talking about. We remain in Him with our heart, not just our head. He remains in us as we are involved with Him in intimate conversation. It is a deep relationship, one that demands that we focus on Him. He is there. And as we remain in Him and He remains in us, we will produce the spiritual fruit we were born to produce. Today remember what Jesus said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I realize that apart from You, I can do nothing. Forgive me for cutting myself off from the deep intimacy that You desire. Revive my heart, I pray. Bring life back to my soul and help me remain in You. In Your matchless name, I pray.

Power and Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
God is awesome in his sanctuary. The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
Psalm 68:35 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are a lot of things that we need to make it through this life. Sometimes it is hard to ascertain what exactly to ask God for. Today’s verse sets good guidelines to help us when we pray. First, God is awesome. We have every reason to ask for His miraculous power to intervene in our situations. He can heal, change circumstances or move in the hearts of people. We need to ask and expect God to be awesome on behalf of His people. And yet, there is another side. Today’s verse also says that God gives power and strength to His people. Although we can ask God to show His love to others, hasn’t He commanded you and I to be His ambassadors of love? Paul wrote, “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” And who knew this better than David? After all, it was David who picked up the stone and aimed at Goliath, but God directed the stone. David said to Goliath, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.” God created you and me to be His ministers in this world, and He gives us the strength and power to do it. What a magnificent plan. God, with His power working with and through us to do His will in this world. No wonder David ended by saying, “Praise be to God!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I can’t live the life You want me to without Your power. Nor do I want to try. I come today and ask You to guide me, direct me, and fill me with Your power and strength. May You show Yourself strong through all I say and do. To You be all the Glory!

Our Deepest Longings

TODAY’S VERSE
His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist.
Acts 17:27-28 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God’s purpose has always been that we fellowship with Him. He has built us with what Anne Halley calls our “Core longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging.” We all need to have these fulfilled. And we can when we fellowship with God. The people of Athens were searching for truth. They had a temple filled with a multitude of gods, and yet they asked Paul to come and share about Jesus. Paul’s message cut to the heart and exposed their deepest longings. He shared that in God we, “live and move and exist.” It is coming to God, fellowshipping in His presence, feeling safe enough to be vulnerable, and expose our lack of fulfillment that He can fill the deep core longings of our heart. We must come to God and move toward Him. When we do, He hears and meets our need for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging. Today, come to Him, fellowship with Him. As Paul said, “He is not far from any one of us.” Bring Him the deep longings of your heart and find your place in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come today and lay before You my deepest longings for love, security, understanding, purpose, significance, and belonging. Thank You that in Jesus Christ, all my longings are met. Come fill my heart and help me live, move and exist in You. In Jesus’ name.

Meditate

TODAY’S VERSE
I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.
Psalms 145:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember leading a five-day hike in the mountains—what a treat for a young man born and raised in the flat terrain of Detroit, Michigan. And yet, I noticed on the second day that I had spent most of my time looking down at the trail, making sure I would not trip on the large tree roots or twist my ankle on loose rocks. All around me was some of nature’s most magnificent scenery, and all I took in was the subtle shades of green and brown on the ground in front of me. How is it we can be so close to something so glorious and not take the time to capture its essence? David knew the answer. He wrote, “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” David took the time to devote focused attention to God and His wonderful attributes. He dared to stop and reflect, to ponder on God’s almighty power, splendor, and miracles. And when he did, he was a better man for it. You see, focusing on God does not make God powerful; no more than my looking at the mountains makes them majestic. It only allows me to see and know the mysteries of what is already there. Today, don’t miss another moment. Don’t let another day go by without seeing and focusing on all that God is and all the love He has for you. He is majestic, He is full of glorious splendor, and His miracles abound.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You and Your glorious splendor. Help me stop and meditate on You. Help me focus my attention, love, and devotion toward You. Guide me into a deeper knowledge of You, I pray.

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah sent from God!”
Luke 9:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who am I? That is what Jesus asked Peter. We must answer the same question. Who is Jesus? But more importantly, who is Jesus to you? The word “know” in the Bible is usually referring to experiential knowledge. You could say, “He is the Savior of the world.” But how much better to believe, “He is my Savior.” You could say, “He is the friend of sinners.” But how much better to know, “He is my friend.” You could say, “He is the lover of all mankind.” But what joy if you could say, “He is the God who loves me.” Jesus isn’t so interested in what we know about Him. He cares more about how we know Him. Today, spend time with Him. Get to know Him until you can say with surety that He is your God, your Savior, your friend and that He loves you unconditionally.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You that You care. You care about my thoughts, my beliefs, my relationship with you. Help me care, too. Help me know You in a much more personal way than ever before.
