Do You Hear?

TODAY’S VERSE
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God was frustrated with His people. They had wandered far from Him. They would not listen to God, so He sent His prophet Isaiah to ask the people, “Have you never heard? Have you never understood?” We would do well to ask ourselves these same questions whenever we read God’s word. We get so busy, so inwardly focused, that even when we read His word, we do not hear. We do not understand. We don’t begin to fathom the ramifications of the tremendous promises He gives us. In today’s passage, God wanted to emphasize His patience, love, strength, and commitment toward those in need. The prophet writes, “The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” Unlike the Israelites, did you hear it? Did you understand? God is GOD! And God never grows weary of you. He wants to love and help you. He is never weak, not for a second! He fully understands where you are and wants to give you all the strength you will ever need to face the situation you are in. Today, might we hear His voice and understand His great love for us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father God, help me to hear You. Help me to understand the depths of Your love. Help me know Your truth. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit, I pray.
AMEN

Wait On God

TODAY’S VERSE
So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.
Isaiah 30:15—18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Lord longs to be gracious to us. We see it in today’s passage. By His own choice, God created us, knowing that in our humanness, we would be obstinate, fickle, and slow in responding to His love. He knew, and yet He put himself in a place of waiting for us to come to Him so He can show us His great love and compassion. Why does He do this? Why does He wait for us to respond to Him? Because He is faithful to us. His love is not like ours. His love is eternal, unfathomable, unconditional, and unfailing. So, He waits. And what is so ironic is that He waits for us to wait on Him. When we have tried everything else, when we have panicked, obsessed, returned from running away, quit our procrastination, stopped trying to do everything by ourselves, He bids us come to Him and wait for Him to love and meet our deepest needs. Today, quit hurrying and scurrying and come to Him. He is waiting for you to wait on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I admit that I worry and run around trying to fix things by myself. Forgive me for not trusting You. Today I come and pour my worries at Your feet. Guide me, help me, bless me, I pray as I wait on You for all my needs.
AMEN

God’s Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
You hide them in the shelter of your presence.
Psalms 31:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to fathom how magnificent God is. He is so great that when Elijah was at a mountain speaking to God, all God had to do was pass by, and there were a great wind, earthquake, and fire. Moses knew God perhaps more than any living man, so when he was ready to take the people into the wilderness, He begged God to be present with them. As an assurance, Moses asked God to show him His presence. God replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you.- But you may not look directly at my face, for no one may see me and live.” As well, David, a man whom the Bible says “was a man after God’s own heart,” comes to God amid all his trouble and says, “How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. You hide them in the shelter of your presence.” God’s presence, how mighty, how breathtaking, how personal, and how available. Come to God today. Join Elijah, Moses, and David and enjoy the shelter of God’s presence.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, how I thank You for the death of Your Son, Jesus, so I can come boldly into Your presence and find all the love, peace, and joy I will ever need. Let me sense Your presence in my life today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

I Want To See

TODAY’S VERSE
As the man came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “I want to see!” And Jesus said, “All right, receive your sight! Your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus, praising God. And all who saw it praised God, too.
Luke 18:40-43 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift. I love the fact that Jesus said, “What do you want me to do?” Knowing the power of the person asking, the man asked for the extreme gift, “I want to see!” What a request. What an answer. Jesus said, “Alright, receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Jesus has the power to answer our prayers too. I thought of those of us who are not blind. Our eyes work, but what do we see? How many of us suffer from emotional or spiritual blindness? What do we see? Do we see opportunities? Do we see God’s gracious hand in our affairs? Do we see a world with joy, kindness, and love? Or is our vision skewed? We need our blindness healed. We need corrected vision. Where we see doubt, we need to see assurance. Where we see sadness, we need to see joy. Where we see fear, we need to see peace and courage. Where we see hate, we need to see love. Where we see shame, we need to see beauty and purpose. Where we see the darkness of despair, we need to see the light of hope. Today, Jesus is here. He is asking, “What do you want me to do for you?” Tell Him, “Lord, I want to see!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I walk around so blind to the spiritual reality you have for me. I need corrected vision. Holy Spirit, renew my spiritual sight that I may see the truth You have for me. Help me to see hope, joy, peace, and love.
AMEN

hope in god

TODAY’S VERSE
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Psalms 39:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is only as good as the person you hope in. Blind hope is not hoping; it is credulity, the state of willingness to believe in one or many people or things in the absence of reasonable proof or knowledge. We don’t just hope for hope’s sake. Our hope is not in a religion. It is not a creed or tradition. No, we believe in the one and only true God, the God who is there. A moral and loving God. The God of eternity with a much broader perspective on life than we could ever imagine. We come to our loving God and put our faith in Him, so when we need hope, we simply have to draw from our Spiritual experience and put our trust in Him. Today, join the Psalmist in his answer to the question, “Where do I put my hope?” Answer God by saying, “My hope is in you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I doubt You. My worry is a testament to my lack of faith or trust I should have in You. Today, dear Lord, I come again and renew my hope in You. I reaffirm my faith and put my trust in Your love and almighty power. My hope is in You, my Lord, and my God.
AMEN

Walk In The Light

TODAY’S VERSE
You have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.
Psalms 56:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It makes a difference where you walk. I’ve hiked in many different terrains, in all kinds of weather, but the hardest of all was along a mountain path in the dark. There is nothing more treacherous than walking along a cliff when it is slippery and pitch dark. Some of our team tried to make it and slipped down the side of the mountain. Life can be that way too. How many times does it feel we are on a slippery path in the dark? All around us is dangerous, but we can’t see the path. David knew what that felt like, but he cried out to God. Today we have a choice. We can keep slipping trying to make it on our own, or we can do what David did. He decided to trust God and walk in His presence. He chose to walk in God’s life-giving light. You can too. Come to God today; He will stop you from slipping. He will lead you from the darkness into His life-giving light.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, how often I end up on a slippery path in the dark. Thank You for loving me and providing a way out. I come to You now and ask that You keep me from slipping. Help me today to walk in the awareness of Your presence, in Your life-giving light.
AMEN

Perfect peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every day is a new day. It is a do-over. That means that today you can choose to move toward peace. You do this by trusting God, trusting that no matter how you feel, no matter what the circumstances that God can still give you peace. He promises. Now peace may not take away the problems you are facing. Peace may not change any consequences you have or change the events of the past. But the peace that God offers passes our understanding. It keeps our hearts and mind. It supersedes our circumstances. It brings hope where there seems to be no hope. Today, come to God, fix your thoughts on Him, trust Him, and He will fill your heart with peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, you know my heart. You know my circumstances. You know my needs. I come to You today and am fixing my thoughts on You. I ask for Your peace to fill my heart and mind. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Unfailing Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD. The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
Psalms 25:7-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How merciful God is. He could look at our behavior and condemn us. He could read our minds and reject us. He could exact a thousand different punishments for all that we have done. Instead, He has chosen to see us through the eyes of His unfailing love. It is so hard to imagine what that means. It is so foreign to the way we operate. We hold grudges, seek revenge, or at least try to get even. But not God. He does not give up on us. He sees us desperately in need of His grace. And even when we are unlovely, thoroughly lost because of our willful disobedience, He shows us the way back. What makes this so tragic is that we don’t believe it. We still think we need to wear the mask of our false self. You know, the self that thinks it earns God’s approval. The self that tries to please God through vain attempts at righteousness. Today throw the mask away. You don’t need it. God sees you through His unfailing love, and He loves what He sees. Today accept His love and let Him direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for showing me the proper path to go on when I go astray. Guide me and direct me today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Constantly Aware Of God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth.
Psalms 26:2-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you aware of? Every day you and I are the object of God’s unconditional love, and yet do we really live as if we are aware of it? King David did. He wrote, “I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth.” It is much like a baby. A newborn spends its first year of life being aware of its mother’s face, voice, and presence. After thousands of positive interactions with the mother, the baby experiences “emotional object constancy.” This means that the baby’s capacity for love and acceptance has expanded enough that the baby begins to live with the awareness of the mother’s love, even when she isn’t present. It was this way with David. You can imagine him as a Shepherd, basking in the beauty of God’s presence, meditating on God’s word, writing psalms like “The Lord is my Shepherd, I have all I need.” David was building up his capacity for the awareness of God’s love and acceptance. Is it no wonder he could later write, “I am always aware of your unfailing love.” Today, begin a habit of spending time with God. Attune yourself with His Spirit and how much He loves you. Soon you will build your capacity and emotional constancy. Then you, too, will be constantly aware of His great love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know You and Your love for me, better and better, so the reality of Your unfailing love for me will be a permanent part of my conscious experience.
AMEN

Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.
Psalms 27:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes the best way to overcome something is to replace it with the opposite. David decided to do this with fear. When he was surrounded by a mighty invading army, he had a choice to make. He could go with the normal response of fear, or he could replace fear with confidence in God’s love. It was the love that he had for God and the love he knew God had for him that allowed him to exercise confidence. The Bible says, “perfect love casts out fear.” Add to perfect love an all-powerful God, and you have a real confidence maker. Today, when stress comes into your life, when you are tempted to become overwhelmed, put your trust in God. Step out in faith and let confidence in Him take over.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, Father, that You are trustworthy. You are all-powerful and all-loving. I come to you today and lay my fears at Your feet. Give me the confidence to completely trust in You.
AMEN
