Spiritual wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
Ephesians 1:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many things we could ask for in life, but I think Paul listed two of the most important. He was praying for the Ephesians Church that God would give them “spiritual wisdom and insight.” Imagine what you could do if you had it? With Spiritual wisdom and insight, you could better discern God’s will. The Holy Spirit could speak to you about your behavior, thoughts, and feelings, helping you make needed adjustments and changes. What about the deeper truths about God and His word? Spiritual wisdom and insight is the key to unlocking God’s treasury of knowledge. There is so much to know and experience in the spiritual realm. Today ask God to give you spiritual wisdom and insight. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you and lead you day by day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I need Your wisdom, how I need Your insight. Lead me today to Your truth. Guide me, direct me, help me grow in my knowledge of You.
AMEN

Meditating On God

TODAY’S VERSE
You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wing.
Psalms 63:5-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What brings you joy? What makes you sing and praise? What do you spend time thinking about? There are a lot of things that you could answer. Certainly the love of someone can cause you to act this way. Having a deep purpose can cause a similar passion. A national championship after a long grueling season has had this kind of effect on millions of people. Here is the question though. Does your relationship with God have this effect on you? It is possible to know all about God, all about worship, ritual and doctrine and not have a passionate relationship with Him. To me, the part of this passage that makes all the difference in the world is not “praising with songs of joy”, or “sing for joy in the shadow of your wing”. No, it is, “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” If we want to really know God, then we must take time to meditate and sit in His presence. We need to shut everything else out and get to know God and hear His voice. When we do this, we will be able to say with David, “You satisfy me more than the richest feast, I will praise you with songs of joy!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today longing to know You. As I spend time with You, I pray that You would reveal Yourself to me. Help me worship and praise You in Spirit and in truth.
AMEN

He Is Alive

TODAY’S VERSE

I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
Revelation 1:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“He’s Alive!” Those two words can make all the difference in the world. So many people talk about a God of their choice. They say that we should be in touch with an energy, a force, or one with the universe. But the God of the Scriptures is so much more than that. We serve an entity. A true living God, not of our choice, but one that chooses us. A God who is there and is active in His creation. A God who united with us through His son Jesus. Jesus came as a baby lived among us, and then died to be a sacrifice for us. He took the penalty for our sins so we could be right with God. And then, as a result of His very Deity, Jesus rose from the dead. He is alive! What does that do for you? What reality does that speak into your life? Our God is real, and He is alive. He is all-knowing and all-powerful. And most of all, God is vitally interested in your life! Do you know Him as your Lord and Savior? If not, today, you can invite Him to be your God, and you can give Him complete control of everything that you are. When you do, He will not only be alive, He will be alive in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I thank You that You are alive. I need to know that You are alive in me. Forgive me of all my sins. I accept the death of Jesus Christ as the payment for all my wrongdoing and ask You to become alive in my heart. Make me a Christian right now. I pray this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

The Lord Bless You

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often we put the emphasis on us “following” God when we would be better off “responding” to God. We worry so much about how to love God when we all we really need to do is truly understand His love for us. If we knew what today’s verse really meant, how could loving God ever be an issue? How could we ever be worried about following Him? But do we really believe that God desires to bless us and keep us? Do we see God as a loving God that turns His face toward us with such a focus that it is as if His face is shining right on us? It is this daunting attention from our loving God that causes us to love Him. It is this knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that His intention is to bless us and keep us, to be gracious with us, and give us peace that causes us to follow Him without reservation. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, said it best, “We love Him because He first loved us.” Today know that God has blessed you and kept you. Understand that He has turned His face toward you and has shined it upon you. Finally, receive the peace that comes from knowing His unconditional love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your awareness of me. Thank You for shining Your face on me. Thank You for turning Your face toward me and giving me peace. Today, Lord, help me live in this reality.
AMEN

Come In Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
Revelation 3:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have always loved this metaphor. Here is Jesus coming to the door of my heart and knocks. What a deliberate move. Jesus is so vitally interested in me and you, that He comes to us and bids to come in. And to do what? Investigate every nook and cranny in order to scorn and shame us? No, He knocks so we can invite Him in because He wants to “share a meal together as friends!” In his book, “The Deeper Journey,” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “God comes into the core of our being. God comes to bring light into darkness, cleansing into our sin, life into our deadness, healing into our brokenness, and liberation into our bondage; to nurture us there into wholeness in the very image of God.” And so today He knocks. Now a door can be a considerable barrier, but to a friend, it is an entrance into a wonderful relationship. Listen, can you hear His footsteps? Quick answer the door, Jesus, your friend is here.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, thank You for knocking on my door. I hear You and open up my heart. Please, Jesus, come in and fellowship with me today.
AMEN

His Presence

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. Psalms 56:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what it would have been to be Adam and Eve? They had a personal relationship with God. They met with Him every day and lived in His presence. Though they disobeyed God and changed the world forever, we still have an opportunity to fellowship with God. David knew this. As a shepherd boy, he would spend his nights under the stars and sing to God. As he grew, he became “a man after God’s own heart.” David knew what it meant to walk with God. He admitted, “Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.” He realized that there was nowhere he could go, no situation he could be in that would take Him outside of God’s presence. We, too, can have that same reality. God bids us come and fellowship with Him. He desires for us to live in His life-giving light. Today, stop and realize that you are in the very presence of God. Better yet, remind yourself that His presence lives in you! Rejoice and walk with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your abiding presence. Today I choose to walk in Your life-giving light.
AMEN

Worship

TODAY’S VERSE
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.
Psalms 59:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
A flower doesn’t have a choice. Every morning, its beauty gives glory to God. The sunset, mountain vista, and ocean waves all give praise to God without pause or consternation. But not so with us. We must make a choice. And as honored as God is by the glory of this world’s natural creation, how much more joy it must bring Him when we make praise and worship a free choice of our will. David made it his choice. He decided that he would sing of God’s power. He made it a point to sing of God’s unfailing love every morning, even when he was under great duress. He writes, “But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.” Today, what will you sing? What will you say to Him who is your refuge? You have a choice, choose to praise and worship Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You for all You have done for me. I come now to worship You for all Your love. I praise You for mighty power. You alone are worthy of all my honor. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Your Heavenly Father

TODAY’S VERSE
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:15-16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we became a Christian, we were born-again. We received the Holy Spirit, becoming a child of God with the right to call God our Father. I don’t know which is more exciting, the fact that I am a child of God or that I have a Heavenly Father that loves me. The beautiful fact is that both are true. Do you believe this? Do you truly understand that God is your father? Do you fully comprehend that you are a child of God that is loved and cherished? If it hasn’t already, this truth can change your life. Why not let it? Today, breathe in the fact that you are a beloved child of God. Not just the Holy Almighty God, but your Heavenly Father. Know Him, love Him, talk to Him. The Spirit will testify to you, that indeed you are His child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh my loving Father, thank You for making me Your child. Help me to know You, love You and live for You. I need You to guide my life.
AMEN

He Is There

TODAY’S VERSE
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been lost? Imagine if you were hiking, and all of a sudden, you realize you don’t know where you are? You have no map or compass and don’t know how to get to where you want to go—what a helpless feeling. So picture your joy when someone sees you and asks if they can help you. They take out a map, explain where you are, and show you the way to your destination. What a relief. Isn’t that how it is when we get emotionally lost? We are running from day-to-day. We over-react, panic, and without help, we eventually become emotionally frozen. How great then is our joy when we hear the words of our Lord, “You will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” We don’t have to wander in our emotional wilderness. We don’t have to remain lost in all our madness, God is here. He will listen, He will show us the way. He promises! We will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart. Today, cry out to God, seek Him, He is there.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come today, crying out for You. I am seeking You, Lord, with all my heart. Hear my prayer, make Your presence known to me as You have promised. Guide me, lead me, comfort me with Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

Abundant Life

TODAY’S VERSE
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.`’

Psalms 16:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you look at your relationship with God? Is it drudgery? Is your Christian experience legalistic, nothing more than an empty ritual? Perhaps your spiritual life is haphazard at best, a hit or miss with your devotional life. It begs the questions, “What are you looking for?” What are you expecting from God? David said that we could expect God to show us the way of life! Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.” When we come to God thirsting for real life, when we seek Him with all our heart, David said that He would show us the way and grant us the joy of His presence and the true pleasures of living with Him forever! We were made for fellowship with God, and nothing else will satisfy that longing in our heart. Today commit your life to Him. Let Him show you the way of life, granting you the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You know me and have everything I need to live a happy and fulfilled life. Please show me the way of life and grant me the joy that comes from being in Your presence.
AMEN
