In His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of the death and resurrection of Christ, we can come into the very presence of God and receive all the mercy, grace, and help we need, just when we need it most. What a significant truth this is! Amazingly, God allows us to spend time in His presence. What is even more amazing is how many of us don’t spend that precious time with Him. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer,” the author, Rick Richardson, writes, “My heart was receptive – As we walk the healing journey, no other single thing we can do, may have a greater impact than learning to listen to God. God’s voice is the healing voice, just as God’s presence is the healing presence. We must hear the voice of God reverberate in our soul, exposing the lies about our unlovability, worthlessness, or despair and speaking to us the truth. We must.” Christ has done everything needed so we can come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. Today, do it! Listen to Him. Be confident that He desires to speak the truth of your lovability and worth to you and make you whole. When you do, you will find all the mercy, grace, and love you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You, dear Lord, for providing a way that I can come into Your presence. Thank You that Christ is my High Priest, and I can go boldy into Your presence. Thank you for the confidence I can have that You will give me all the mercy, grace, and help I need to make it through this day. In Jesus’ name.

Fellowship With Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
I Corinthians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you wake up in the morning, who do you think you are? What purpose do you have for the day? Perhaps you think, “I’m a mother and need to take care of my children.” Or, “I am an employee; I need to get ready for work.” No matter what you need to be or do, Paul challenges you also to consider that by God’s grace, you have the privilege of fellowshipping with Christ today. If you woke up with that thought, how would that affect the way you start your day? What attitude would it give you? What joy would there be in your heart? The truth is that God chose you to fellowship with Him. Jesus desires that you become consciously aware of His presence, actively involved in a dialog with Him. He wants to share in your joys and sorrows, your victories and defeats, your greatest pleasures, and most mundane tasks. Today, choose to fellowship with Him. Choose to include Him in your day. Share, pray, meditate, and talk to Him. God has called you to fellowship with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to fellowship with You. Help me to appreciate and fully understand what that means. Help me today to begin to fellowship with You in more profound and meaningful ways. In Jesus’ name.

Heavenly Shepherd

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
Psalms 23:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David wrote this famous Psalm about God being our Heavenly Shepherd from experience. As a young man, he spent his time shepherding a flock of sheep for his father. He knew the value of a shepherd to the flock. He also knew the importance of knowing God. David knew that the shepherd provides all that the sheep need. He even knew that God, like a shepherd, lets us rest in green meadows, leads us beside peaceful streams, renews our strength, and guides us along the right path. Even in the darkest times, God is right there close by our side, comforting us. With God as our shepherd, David concludes that goodness and unfailing love will pursue us as long as we shall live. I love the concept of the shepherd; it is being a sheep that I struggle with. I struggle to surrender my will to God. But as my shepherd, God’s love cuts through my pride. His love compels me to live for Him. My Heavenly Shepherd’s love wins and woos my heart, helping me to surrender myself to His control. I can trust Him. I can lean on Him. I can be my needy self and know that God will care for me. Today, let God shepherd you. Commit yourself to Him and His loving care.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for all Your care. Thank You for all You provide and do for me. You are my Heavenly Shepherd and I will gladly live for You.

Show Me Your Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” – Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
Exodus 33:14-15, 18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The people of God had sinned. While Moses was on the mountain top receiving the ten commandments from God, the people were rebelling by creating an idol and worshipping it. God was angry and was going to destroy the people. However, Moses pleaded with God to spare the people. Finally, God told Moses to take the people away without Him lest His fierce anger comes against them. Moses knew better than to lead these people without God’s guidance so he asked to reconsider and lead the people with His own presence. Even more, Moses asked God to show him His glory. Oh, that we would seek out and depend upon the presence of God the same way Moses did! What a difference it would make in our life. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer”, Rick Richardson writes, “Do you long to be filled at the core of your being with more strength, more substance, more hope? You may feel an urgent need for immediate help and practical steps. But I implore you to realize that knowing God, practicing God’s presence, and seeking God’s life is more important to your healing than anything else in all the world.” C.S Lewis, in his book “Miracles”, writes, “The presence of God is the most real thing we ever encounter.” Today, decide like Moses not to go any further, not to consider any new direction, without being conscious of the presence of God. Might we pray, “Lord, show me Your glory.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know so little about Your presence. All I know is I don’t want to take another step without really knowing You. Lord, help me become aware of Your Glory. Reveal Yourself to me. I pray in Jesus’ name.

I Want To See

TODAY’S VERSE
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!”
Mark 10:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“I want to see.” That may be an obvious answer for a blind person who is asked by Jesus, “What do you want me to do for you?” Sight is a precious gift that we quickly take for granted. But as I read this, I thought, I too need to ask for sight. Not physical but spiritual. I am so blind to the things of God. The cry of my heart is, “I want to see.” I want to see, like the servant of Elisha, who was afraid of the enemy armies until Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The Bible says, “The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” He saw reality with spiritual eyes. I also want to see the way Paul prayed we should see. He wrote, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Today when God asks you, “What do you want me to do for you,” answer, “Help me to see.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with my spiritual blindness. Open my eyes Lord, that I may see what you want me to see.

Word And Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”
Mark 12:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some mistakes are more critical than others. Jesus pointed out the worst. And sadly, we are often guilty of making it! There aren’t any two things more relevant to the way we should live than knowledge of the Scriptures and experiencing God’s power. Yet how many days do we live without the influence of either? Paul tells us, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” If this is true, why would we live day after day without it? And God’s power? Why would we deny ourselves of such an incredible reality? Jesus was attacking the religious attitudes of the Pharisees. They wanted to argue doctrine, law, and pretense. But Jesus didn’t see rules and rituals; He saw God’s word and power. The author of Hebrews writes, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” Jesus said, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” Today may God help us to truly know both.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need for a Godly life through Your divine power and promises. Help me to know more about your word and power I pray. In Jesus’ name.

God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are two ways to look at today’s passage. The first is the most obvious. God in His omnipresence is everywhere you go and nothing can separate you from Him or His love for you. It is God-dependent. God has taken on the challenge always to love you no matter what outward circumstances you may be in. And He can do this because, as John writes, “God is love.” But there is another reality that is hidden in today’s verse. That is your own “inward state awareness of God’s love.” As you mature, you assimilate your circumstances and influences around you. You allow them to create in you an inner state of being. It is like a person who has a loving caregiver knows, even when they are separated for long lengths of time, they are still loved by that person. The love was just as real in the person’s absence as in their presence. This is because, over time, the consistency of the love of their caregiver had become part of their inner state of being. How much more can this be true of God? God has created you with the ability to know His love. Know it in such a profound way that even in dire circumstances, you can experience His loving presence. As you fellowship with God and get to know His heart, His love will create in you a trusting confident state of mind. You will be convinced that what Paul said is true. Nothing can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your deep love for me. Thank You for allowing me the privilege of knowing You and having Your love become a part of my very being. Help me to trust in that love.

Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to hear someone and not listen to a word they are saying. We get so engrossed into what we are doing that we half listen. How many times are we that way with God? We get up in the morning and barely say, “Hi” to Jesus and then bust out the door. We may spend some time reading and offering up prayer requests, but do we listen to God? God wants a relationship; He desires to communicate with us. He has answers to questions like, “Lord, what do You want to say to me?” “Jesus, what do you want me to do today?” There is a whole new spiritual experience waiting for us if we just stop to listen. Today, spend time with God, and your ears too will hear a word, a word from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need a word from You. Help me today to stop and listen. I come and say with Samuel, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”

Aware Of His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!
Psalms 116:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift we have been given. God has asked us to walk in His presence. But it is our choice to make. We don’t have to be alone and alienated from God. We can choose to live with the awareness of His presence and build a real and vital relationship with Him. Or we can choose to be conscious of Him only while we are at church or in one of life’s crises. Of course, we don’t have to walk with God at all. We can spend all our time walking through this world, barely paying attention to His love for us. But why? God has an incredible love for you. He desires for you to fellowship with Him. He is ready to share with you His very presence. So why not commit yourself to Him? Ask Him to fill your heart and open your eyes to all that He is. He will. And then you can say with the Psalmist, “I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose to follow You. I want to be conscious of Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live in the awareness of Your love for me.

Press On

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to live in the past. Remorse, grief, disappointment, bitterness, so many painful emotions can keep us in a state of limbo. Paul had regrets; he had persecuted Christians. Paul had disappointments and hardships, but he knew the secret to living with all of life’s ups and downs. He pressed on. He knew when the appropriate time came; it was time to forget. It was time to quit looking behind and trust God for the future. God doesn’t remain in the past, and neither should we. Today, what is keeping you in the past? What has you locked in painful emotions? Give it to God. Forget the past and look forward to what God has ahead. He is not finished with you yet!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have hung on to my past. Today, I surrender to You. I quit looking back with regret, sorrow, remorse, and bitterness and will look forward with anticipation, joy, and excitement toward what lies ahead. Today, I choose to trust You. In Jesus’ name.
