Rejoice

TODAY’S VERSE
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“Happiness is a choice.” This was a title of a book that helped change my life. The “aha” came when I realized my worry, fear, and sadness were a habit. I knew that a habit could be broken, and a new practice could take its place. So, it was very exciting to consider that the happiness habit could replace all the other negative thinking habits I had been practicing. To help me start the day with the tradition of “happiness,” I would get up and quote today’s verse out loud: “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” That simple habit allowed me to focus and begin a string of thoughts leading to a more joyful outlook on life. It helped me energize faith before pessimistic thinking could take root in my morning. How about you? Is happiness the choice that you have made today? If not, it is not too late. Happiness, joy, peace, and faith can be yours today. God has provided it; you need to choose it. This is the day the LORD has made; go ahead, rejoice, and be glad in it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose happiness, joy, peace, and faith. Thank You that this is a day that You have made; please help me to rejoice today and be glad in it. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Lord Almighty

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Psalms 46:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is amazing to see the difference one sentence can make especially when it carries such an important message. But if this passage is such a revelation, why do most of us walk around discouraged, overwhelmed, and stressed with life issues? What does it take to make a sentence go from the head to the heart? How can focusing on the reality of Almighty God in our life make a difference? How would waking tomorrow morning, conscious of what David is expressing in this verse, change your plans or behavior? What would you do differently knowing that the Lord Almighty is right there with you? The reality is that God is with you. He is your fortress, and He is Almighty. Might this truth sink in and cause you to live accordingly.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me aware of Your presence. Help me to see You in all Your power and glory. Help me trust You for everything I do this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Boast About This

TODAY’S VERSE
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24. (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are taught as a child not to be proud. But what about an earnest, heartfelt joy welling up inside us that has to express its appreciation for what we have? What of expressing our sincere gratitude and wonder at something so extraordinary and surreal that it defies us to keep our silence? There is such boasting. It is a deep, holy appreciation for what God has done for us. The Lord told Jeremiah to tell the people not to boast about human wisdom, strength, or materialism. These are nothing to brag about; they pale compared to what God has for us. If we are going to boast about anything, then here is what God says we should boast about: “Let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice, and righteousness.” How can we hold such a truth inside? How can we stop sharing what a tremendous privilege it is to know the Lord God of the universe? That this same God has given us the privilege to call Him “Lord of our life”? The same God who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness calls us His children. It is He that we affectionately call Father. Today, rejoice in the fact that our Almighty God loves you. Go boast in this and when you tell others, tell them that He loves them too!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you that I can boast about the fact that You love me and that I know You. Thank you so much. Help me understand the unbelievable privilege that is mine so that I boast about Your fantastic love to others, and they will desire the same for themselves. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Praise and Confession

TODAY’S VERSE
But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.
Psalm 66:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Were you ever tempted to lie to someone because you thought telling the truth would get you in trouble? The author of today’s verse took the risk of confessing his sins to God, and he was so surprised at God’s reaction that he could not wait to tell everyone. He wrote, “Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me.” He came crying to God with confession and praise, and God heard his cries. He wrote, “For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” And what was the result? God listened. The Father paid attention to his prayers. The author concludes, “Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.” Today you can have the same results. Bring your praise, confession, and prayers before God. He will hear you. He will not withdraw His unfailing love from you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God and Father, thank You for Your unfailing love that does not reward me according to my sins nor ignores my prayers. Thank you for the fact that I can come to You with all my sins and requests, and know that you will not shut me out. I praise You for Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Thanksgiving

TODAY’S VERSE
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As a nation, we stop once a year to give thanksgiving for all we have and the many blessings we have received. This is a great practice, but Paul admonishes us to be thankful all the time. Appreciation, thanksgiving, and gratitude should be our norm, but unfortunately, it’s not. Instead, we have a negativity bias built into our brain that keeps track of danger and negativity more than it does the positive good things. We have to be intentional if we want to experience genuine gratitude and thanksgiving. It is more than being wowed by a sunset as you drive down the road. It is stopping and engaging the senses. Smelling the air, feeling the temperature, seeing all the colors, and connecting with the God who made it. Paul, even in prison, never stopped being in tune with the presence of God. He praised God, sang praise songs, and prayed. Today, no matter the circumstances, let’s stop and be aware of His presence and let that reality well up praise, gratitude, and thanksgiving in our hearts.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Lord, I thank you for being there in all my circumstances. May your presence and love for me cause me to pause and fill my heart with gratitude, thanksgiving, and praise.
AMEN

Worship

TODAY’S VERSE
Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness; let us exalt his name together.
Psalms 34:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Worship lifts the soul. It is our way of connecting with God that is personal and meaningful. Exalting the name of God is giving Him the glory that He is due. Sharing with others about God’s greatness and all He has done for us blesses not only God but also encourages our hearts, enlarges our faith, and resets our path. So today, find someone and tell them of the greatness of God in your life. Exalt His name before them and all that He is. Worship God and let Him revive your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God. How I exalt Your name above all names. You are great and mighty and worthy of all my praise and thanksgiving. I worship You, God, for all You have done and all that You are. In Jesus’ Holy name.
AMEN

I Believe

TODAY’S VERSE
Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
John 11:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Martha’s brother had died. When Jesus came to Martha’s house, she said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” What an amazing faith she had. And yet, Jesus felt compelled to ask her if she believed that those who believe in Jesus would never die. Her answer was immediate, “Yes, Lord,” she told him. “I have always believed you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who has come into the world from God.” It is one thing to say someone else is going to be with Jesus forever, but when faced with your own finiteness, what do you believe? Will you live with Him forever? Martha personally knew Jesus as the Messiah, the one sent from God, and it impacted her faith. Today, how much more should we have faith? We have the benefit of the scriptures that teach us so much about Jesus. We have the Holy Spirit, the very indwelling of our Holy God’s Spirit, to guide us into all truth and bear witness of the truth of Jesus and our eternal life with Him. Today, let the faith of Martha be your example and hear the words of Jesus, “Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your love, sacrificial death, and resurrection. Thank You for Your promise of eternal life to all who believe. Lord, I believe.
AMEN

Meditate On God

TODAY’S VERSE
I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.
Psalms 145:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our thoughts move so fast. For many of us concentration has become a lost art. Yet a deep spirituality demands that we spend time in reflection. We draw close to God as we contemplate all that is good about Him. Why? Because knowing God, understanding the riches of His love, mercy, and grace does not come from glimpses. The scriptures say that David was “a man after God’s own heart.” That meant that David spent time in God’s presence, meditating on all that He is. In this same chapter, David wrote, “The LORD is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.” Oh, to be like David and perceive that God is merciful and compassionate in the depths of our hearts. This is our charge, to meditate on these truths till their true meaning profoundly influences us. Today, don’t just read about God; mediate on His majestic, glorious splendor.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all that You are. Today, help me know You in a deep, personal, intimate way. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Praise and Remembrance

TODAY’S VERSE
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.
Psalms 103:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many things that we get excited about and praise. We can remember a championship that happened decades ago and praise the team. We get emotional and praise the remembrance of a concert we attended as a teenager. We can get excited about a movie and tell everyone, praising the production. But how much do we sincerely praise God? David writes, “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” David could write this because he experienced God. He knew Him. He spent time in God’s presence and depended upon Him time and time again for His protection and guidance. David was called “A man after God’s own heart.” Oh, that I would be like David. That I would raise my awareness of God all around me. That I would trust Him in all things. That I would read and meditate on His word. Then and only then, I would experience God in a way that would be unforgettable. Then I would begin to praise God. This is my heart’s desire. Is it yours?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, forgive me for my pitiful praise. Forgive me for my spiritual amnesia. How I long to be like David. I want to be a person that experiences you in a real and vital way. Come, Lord, fill my heart with praise and my mind with remembrance. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Thankfulness

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a difference between appreciation and thankfulness. When we appreciate something, it gives us a good feeling. Whereas appreciation is an inward expression of gratitude, thankfulness is an outward expression. It is relational. You show gratitude and give thanks to what has caused your appreciation. Giving thanks opens your heart toward a deeper relationship. It is that way with God. Paul wrote that we shouldn’t worry about anything but let worry be a cue to pray about everything instead. We do this by telling God what we need and expressing thankfulness to Him for all He has done. Paul writes that the result of this gratitude toward God is the ability to experience God’s peace in ways we cannot even imagine. This peace guards our emotions and our thinking as we live out our relationship with Him. So today, show God gratitude. Be thankful and delight in Him. Make it a habit, and it will change your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for all You have done for me. I am deeply grateful and full of appreciation for Your wondrous love for me. Fill me with Your peace and protect my heart and my mind. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
