Be Thankful

TODAY’S VERSE
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
I Thessalonians 5:18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often, we forget how gracious God is. We forget all the good in our life. Like spoiled children, we take so many things for granted. Worse we tend to complain to God when things aren’t going our way. God abhors complaining. Paul knew this, so instead of complaining, Paul encourages us to be thankful. How different would your life be if you began to thank God in all things? What if you began to praise Him for His love, power, wisdom, majesty, and grace toward you no matter what the circumstance? What type of relationship do you think you would develop with Him? What kind of spirituality would you develop? Today begin to thank God in all things. It will change your life. Out of praise will come contentment, peace of mind, faith, and hope. This is God’s will for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining. Forgive me for my lack of faith. Today I come to thank You. Might Your praise be continuously on my lips, my Lord and my God.

The One Thing

TODAY’S VERSE
The one thing I ask of the LORD—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
Psalms 27:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is your “one thing”? We all have one. It may not seem like it, but we do. But, you say, “I haven’t chosen anything yet.” Sure you have. By not choosing, you chose mediocrity. You are trading your precious life for a half-hearted attempt at living when all the while, God is waiting to give you life, life at its fullness. David knew God was the “one thing,” the meaning of life, the ultimate purpose, what Jesus called “the pearl of great price” that when a man found it, “he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” For David, that pearl was knowing God. He wanted to live in His presence, delight in Him, and spend time meditating on all that He is. And God offers you the same thing. It is within your grasp. Today, choose the “one thing.” Choose to truly know God in all His wisdom, grace, and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come today to ask for the “one thing.” I desire, Lord, to know You. I open my heart and ask You to fill it. Help me delight in Your presence. Help me meditate on all You are. I seek You, Lord, with all my heart. Be my “one thing,” I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Good News

TODAY’S VERSE
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. – Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.
Psalms 145:4, 6-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Good news travels fast, spreading from one person to another: a bargain sale, a hit song, a good movie, a medicine that really works. People don’t have to beg us to tell them; we volunteer. We share what impacts us and is suitable for others. But what of God? Have we let Him impact our life? Is our relationship with Him worth telling others? God’s mighty works have always been on the tongues of men. Today He is still wondrous. The “good news” of Christ’s message is still good news today. He loves us unconditionally and gave His life on the cross that we might be forgiven of all our sins. He gives purpose and meaning and heals our broken hearts. He cares and provides for our needs. This is the message that we must proclaim: “God is alive, and He loves mankind.” David said, “Let each generation tell.” Today, it is our turn.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for all You are and what You have done for me. Thank You for Your love and forgiveness. Help me share Your good news with others that they, too, might share in Your goodness.

Christ’s Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love how the peace of Christ and thankfulness go together. Heartache, suffering, disappointment causes much pain. Paul knew this from being in prison, shipwrecked, starving, stoned, left for dead, and being hunted down like a criminal. And yet, through the peace of knowing Christ, Paul was able to give thanks. And why did giving thanks matter? Because giving thanks is the key to returning to joy from painful emotions and circumstances. It is handing over the steering wheel to someone else more capable than driving when we are under so much duress. And so today, give it all to Christ. Come to Him who can provide you with peace even when thanksgiving seems so far away. His peace will comfort. His peace will sustain. His peace will return you to joy and a thankful heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is hard to give thanks in all things. I need Your peace, that passes all understanding, to rule in my heart. Come in the power of Your Holy Spirit and fill me where I cannot fill myself. In Jesus Name, I give you thanks.

TODAY’S VERSE
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Psalms 39:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is only as good as the person you hope in. Blind hope is not hoping; it is credulity, the state of willingness to believe in one or many people or things in the absence of reasonable proof or knowledge. We don’t just hope for hope’s sake. Our hope is not in a religion. It is not a creed or tradition. No, we believe in the one and only true God, the God who is there. A moral and loving God. The God of eternity with a much broader perspective on life than we could ever imagine. We come to our loving God and put our faith in Him, so when we need hope, we simply have to draw from our Spiritual experience and put our trust in Him. Today, join the Psalmist in his answer to the question, “Where do I put my hope?” Answer God by saying, “My hope is in you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I doubt You. My worry is a testament to my lack of faith or trust I should have in You. Today, dear Lord, I come again and renew my hope in You. I reaffirm my faith and put my trust in Your love and almighty power. My hope is in You, my Lord, and my God.

TODAY’S VERSE
He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
Psalms 40:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can tell people about God, or we can share with them about the God that has made a difference in our life! As we experience the love and power of Christ, the more a song will well up inside our hearts! A song we cannot help but sing. A chorus, like the Psalmist, says, that will cause people to see what God has done in our life and amaze them. More than that, they, too, will trust in God for their own needs. This is what happened to the small town where the “woman at the well” lived. After her encounter with Jesus, her heart was so filled with hope that she ran home and told everyone. She said, “Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.” The Bible records that many of the people came from the town to meet Jesus. Many trusted in Him as their Savior. People today are dying for lack of a genuine song, a song that will meet the deepest needs of their soul. God has put you and me here on earth to sing about our experience with our King of Glory. When we do, other people, just like us, will put their trust in the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for the song You have put in my heart. Help me share with others all the wonderful things You have done for me.

Stand In Awe Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
Let everyone stand in awe of him.
Psalms 33:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been blown away by something? Watching Michael Jordon doing a dunk, the sunset in Hawaii, Isaac Stern playing Beethoven’s Sonata in C Minor on his violin, the Rocky Mountains; these are just a few things that can inspire. But the Psalmist writes of something much more significant than any mountain majesty. He writes of the majesty that created the mountain. He shares, “The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.” His conclusion was, “Let the whole world fear the LORD.” What about you? When is the last time you stopped and stood in awe of God? When have you let your mind go and just bask in His greatness, His power, and His infiniteness? No one can do it for you. The good news is, it’s easier than you think. Just stop. Close your eyes and whisper, “How mighty You are, dear God.” Let it sink in and add, “I stand in awe of You, almighty Lord.” Then wait—muse on Him. Pause and let the majesty of God flood your soul. He is awesome. He is mighty. Today, stand in awe of Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You are mighty! You are glorious. You are worthy of all my praise. To You be the glory! I stand in awe of You.

Rejoice

Rejoice

TODAY’S VERSE
But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD—rejoice in his presence!
Psalms 68:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Joy comes from relationships. And one of the most joyous relationships we can have is with God. Why? Because God created us that way. He created us for fellowship with Him. It is the longing of God’s heart to have communion with us. We love our children, and we hope that they rejoice in that fact, but who is really blessed? Isn’t it us, the parents? We are the ones who had the joy of bringing them into the world and nurturing them into maturity. Aren’t we the real winners? What joy our children bring us. Likewise, God gets great pleasure out of His relationship with us. And at the same time, we are blessed by God. How thankful this should make us. How full of praise. So today, rejoice that you are loved by God, deeply loved. Be glad in His presence, for He desires your relationship. Be filled with joy that you bring the Almighty pleasure. Sing praises for all His love for you. Rejoice!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You for Your love for me. How full of praise I am in the thought that I can know You. How glad I am to dwell in Your presence. Thank You, Lord. How I praise Your name.
