TODAY’S VERSE
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalms 34:18 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
David could write today’s passage with confidence. He had experienced the Lord being close to the brokenhearted. His own! His own heart had been broken many times. As a young man, his family neglected and ridiculed him. As a young adult, he had to leave his home and best friend because he was unjustly hunted down like a common criminal. He lost a son at birth. Another son grew up hating and fighting against him, eventually dying in war. Over and over, David had to commit himself to God. When his spirit was crushed, God would rescue him. Centuries later, Jesus would say, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Jesus promises that He will come and relieve and refresh our weary souls. David knew this about God. Isn’t it time that we did? Today, bring Jesus all your heavy burdens. Open your broken heart to God. Give Him your crushed spirit, and let Him rescue you and refresh your soul.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come to You with all my burdens. I give You my crushed spirit. Rescue me. Refresh my soul. Give me relief from my troubles, I pray.
AMEN
