He Cares For You

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
Mark 4:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How often do we think the same thing the disciples thought? It was storming, and they thought they were going to die. So they came to a sleeping Jesus and asked Him if He cared that they would drown. Now I understand their concern, but why question Christ’s love? Instead, they could have asked Him to simply calm the storm. The trouble was, deep in their heart, they didn’t think that was an option. We see this when moments later, Jesus did calm the storm. They were terrified with amazement and said, “Who is this man that even the sea and winds obey Him?” Isn’t that like us? Not only do we doubt that God can help us so many times, we doubt that He wants to! The truth is, He cares. An old hymn says it best, “Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear? As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near? O yes, He cares, I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief; when the days are weary, the long night dreary, I know my Savior cares.” Today, know He cares for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, how often I am in that boat. Trouble comes, and I doubt Your power and Your love. Forgive me. Today, I rebuke the lie that You do not care for me and choose to believe the truth that You love me and care for me deeply. For this, I give thanks.
AMEN

True Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation.
II Thessalonians 3:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
True peace comes from God. We all long for it, but how does God give us “His peace all of the time in every situation?” Paul tells us how. He writes to the Philippians, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” If you trust in God, He will give you peace that passes all your understanding. He said it this way to the church in Rome, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.” Today, stop being anxious; instead, trust in God. Quit worrying and pray joyfully about your situation. If you do, you will experience God’s deep, satisfying, enduring peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, God of all peace. Please fill me with Your peace today as I trust You.
AMEN

Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
Romans 12:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Be at peace with everyone? How hard is that? Nevertheless, you are commanded in scripture to love others. Jesus went farther and said you are to love your enemies! His message was and always has been revolutionary. The good news is that Paul doesn’t leave you helpless. He writes in this same passage some practical instructions on how to be at peace with others. Listen to what he wrote, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! Never pay back evil with more evil. Never take revenge.” Today, may God help you do all you can to live in peace with everyone.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me today to do all I can to live in peace with everyone.
AMEN

No Shame

TODAY’S VERSE
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shame keeps so many of us from understanding how much we are loved by God. In her book, “It Wasn’t Your Fault,” Beverly Engel explains what shame is like. She writes, “When we feel guilt, we feel badly about something we did or neglected to do. When we feel shame, we feel badly about who we are. Guilty people fear punishment, shamed people fear abandonment. When we feel guilty we need to learn it is okay to make mistakes. When we feel shamed we need to learn it’s okay to be who we are. Internalized shame is experienced as a deep sense of who a person is – the feeling that she is defective or never good enough.” Paul speaks to this internalized shame when he writes, “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Oh, my friend, rebuke shame today. It is a lie! Instead, may God, in all His grace, help you understand today how wide, how long, and how deep you are truly loved. God has taken all your guilt and has left you with no shame!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, my normal posture is to look down in shame. But today, You have lifted my head. You have looked into my eyes and have whispered, “No shame!” Bless You Lord! I receive it in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Belief

TODAY’S VERSE
When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.
Acts 12:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s an amazing story. Peter was arrested for preaching the gospel and was thrown in jail, awaiting trial. Peter and his friends were praying for his release and in the middle of the night an angel came and woke Peter up. Peter’s chains fell off, and he was led out of jail right past the 16 soldiers assigned to guard him. When he was outside, he realized what had just happened, that it wasn’t a dream, and he went to the home of his friends. Now here is the irony. When he got to the house, his friends were busy praying earnestly for his release. He knocked, and the girl that answered the door was so excited that she left Peter standing there and went and told everyone. They did not believe her. But when they went to the door and saw Peter they were amazed. Now I get it. I would be excited too, but I hope not totally astonished. I want to get to a place where I ask God for great things and am not astonished but rather deeply thankful. I want to pray for rain with an open umbrella! I want to pray with the door open, waiting for Peter to come home. Oh Jesus, increase my faith. May Your might and power astonish me before you answer my prayer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, Your power and majesty are astonishing. Help me to come to You in faith, believing that all things are possible to them that believe. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our life can get so crazy. All we want is peace, but so often, what we strive for is escape. Escape is not peace. Whether it is escaping through workaholism, hyperactivity, or adrenaline-filled activity, it does not bring us lasting peace. Being numb is not peace. Numbing our minds through drinking, doing drugs, watching endless television, playing video games, or fantasy does not result in the peace our heart desires. Rather Paul tells us that trust does. Trusting in something reliable that is larger than our situation allows us to calm down and regain our composure. Deep peace comes from trusting in God. It is a trust that comes from knowing Him, from keeping our mind fixed on Him. Today, begin to know God. Look for Him in the scriptures. Talk to Him; seek Him with all your heart. As you do, you will find your heart full of the peace that passes all your understanding.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to know You more. I want to fix my thoughts on You so I can enjoy the peace that comes from trusting in You. Help me I pray.
AMEN

Fully Insured

TODAY’S VERSE
Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
Jude 1:24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We insure ourselves in so many ways. We buy insurance for our cars and homes. We purchase medical, dental, and disability insurance. But perhaps the most fantastic insurance of all was paid for by Jesus Christ. He knew the risks. Sin happens. Yet He loved us so much that He did everything needed to make sure we were covered, so no matter what, He will bring us, with great joy, into God’s glorious presence without a single fault! No wonder Paul says, “All glory to God!” That should be the response of our heart too. So today, Praise Him for saving you and for insuring your place in Heaven for all eternity.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your precious Son, my Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You that You will keep me from falling away and will bring me with great joy into Your glorious presence without a single fault.
AMEN

You Can Trust God

TODAY’S VERSE
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalms 62:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to trust God when things are going well. It is when things get turned upside down when calamity strikes, or we are confronted with bad news that our faith wanders, and we begin to seek out our own solutions. J.B. Philips wrote the book “Your God Is Too Small” suggesting that many of us have a conception of God that is woefully inadequate and not worthy of who He really is. Many of us have a fair-weather kind of God. He is great when all is well but loses His deity when times are rough. This is not the God that David is writing about. Instead, David implores us to trust in God at all times. He encourages us to pour out our hearts to Him because He is our refuge. Today, know that our God is not too small rather, He is a glorious, mighty, all-knowing, all-powerful, all-merciful God who loves you more than you could ever imagine. Today, trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father God, forgive me when my comprehension of You is too small. Forgive me for the times I lose my faith and do not trust in You. Today, I repent and choose to trust You in all things. I commit my life to You, for you are my refuge.
AMEN

Strength Of My Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.
Psalms 73:26 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can get hard. Sickness, financial difficulties, relational heartaches, job-related issues can all play havoc on our life. Like the Psalmist, there are those times when our health fails, and our spirit grows weak but thank God, our Lord remains constant. His love never fails. His attention toward us never ceases. His purpose for our life will be accomplished. If you let Him, God will remain the strength of your heart. Today remember, you are His, and His presence is yours forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for the fact that You will never leave me or forsake me. Your love is constant. Your presence is forever. Today, be the strength of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Patient

TODAY’S VERSE
Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.
Hebrews 10:36 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can get hard. There are times when we are so tempted to throw it all away. “Give up” repeats over and over in our minds. We try to pray, but the words get swallowed by obsessive thinking. We think, “Where is God?” God has not left. He is nearer than your breath, and with a change of focus, we can see things differently. The author of Hebrews comes right out and tells us that what we need at times like this is patient endurance. God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. He says that He hears our prayers, so we pray. And we wait. Again, the author of Hebrews writes, “So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!” So today, trust! Be patient. Wait. He is here. Continue to do His will. You will receive what He has promised.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for caring for me. Help me to be patient and to endure. Thank You that I can trust in Your never-failing love.
AMEN
